The Spring King: A Champion’s Journey of Passion, Persistence, and Unlimited Possibility

Rate this book
The Spring King tells the inspiring story of Luis Perez, a man who defied the odds to become a professional quarterback despite never playing high school football. Before pursuing his NFL dream, Luis was an amateur bowler, but his passion for football led him to teach himself how to play quarterback through YouTube tutorials. After overcoming countless obstacles and setbacks, he won a national championship and the Harlan Hill Trophy in college. His journey took him through the NFL, USFL, UFL, and XFL (where he secured a championship).

This memoir chronicles the hard work, dedication, and obsession that fueled his rise, offering an inside look at the perseverance it took to reach his goals. His journey continues as he plays in the UFL, driven by his dream of returning to the NFL. The Spring King is a powerful testament to resilience and the belief that, with enough determination, no dream is out of reach.

I am a huge fan of professional spring-summer football, going back as far as the American Football Association (AFA), which played from 1977 to 1983, and then to the original United States Football League (USFL). Luis Perez's autobiography, The Spring King: A Champion’s Journey of Passion, Persistence, and Unlimited Possibility turned out to be what I had hoped for when I purchased his book. He gives great insight as a player in spring professional football the past several years, even playing in The Spring League (TSL). What impacted me more about his story, however, is the amount of dedication he has to becoming the best player he can be, while also caring deeply for his family, friends, and teammates. Luis Perez is awesome! (If you happen to enjoy spring professional football, I would like to also recommend The Home Team: My Bromance with Off-Brand Football by Scott Adamson which has some great stories, too!)

The story itself is good and I’ve enjoyed watching Luis since seeing suit up for my Birmingham Iron in the AAF, but it definitely needs a new editor. Wishing the guy nothing but the best (unless it comes to my Birmingham Stallions #GiddyUp)!
