Transphoria: A Trans/Nonbinary Comic Anthology Volume 1 edited by Dan Falco, Kat Calamia, and Phil Falco is a welcome addition to the graphic novel anthology sphere.

Directly centering trans and nonbinary experiences of gender euphoria (which means the feeling of joy in how your gender is presented and perceived), this collection features 19 stories across genres as varied as anime action, comedy, poetry, romance, and science fiction (and this genre list is not exhaustive!).

While the angle all of the contributors come at gender euphoria from vary, the beacon of that feeling shines throughout the collection. As with every collection, some stories are going to resonate more with some readers and the other stories with other readers. But that is part of the beauty of collections, they provide multiple slices of diverse characters' larger stories which then allows readers to find at least one character or story or even style that resonates deeply with them.

Transphoria would have been an important collection in any time that it was published, but as trans rights continue to be under attack, Transphoria can serve as that flare in the sky to remind everyone that they're not alone.

I didn't connect with every story (nor should any given person expect to), but quite a few of them hit hard. A few were a little disjunct, but overall this collection was a beautiful and broad representation of my community.

Light, positive and short: this anthology left me wanting more. With a diversity of narratives, it worked well on the whole but felt less than what I was looking for. Glad it exists nonetheless.
