I’m a prosecutor, not a killer—or at least, I didn’t use to be. Now I’m armed with a pink killing kit, a growing body count, and two crushes I can’t choose between.
The worst part? I’m falling for both of them. Turns out, justice isn’t just blind—it’s a whole lot messier than I ever imagined.
*****This is fine. Everything’s fine.
I’m Poppy Hartwell—sex crimes prosecutor by day, reluctant serial killer by... well, technically accident. To be fair, he attacked me first.
It started when another rapist walked free. It ended with mom’s hand-me-down knife, his throat slashed, and a stray dog peeing on his corpse.
Now I’ve got a body count, a fluffy murder accomplice named Dexter, and a problem.
Someone saw me kill him. Worse? They liked it.
My stalker doesn’t just watch—he helps. Cleans up my messes. Leaves notes. Sends tips. You know… for next time.
Things go from bloody to worse when I’m assigned to a secret human trafficking task force led by Detective Declan Blackwood—the man I’ve had a secret crush on for years but would literally rather choke than talk to. He’s being framed. It’s top secret. And now we’re working side by side while I try not to picture his mouth on mine.
Because here’s the thing—I’ve never been kissed. And now I have two dangerously unhinged options willing to claim that first taste.
Caught between a detective I’ve always wanted and a stalker who always seems to know what I need… And with bodies piling up, I’m starting to I don’t want to be saved. I want to finish what I started.
Packed with bloodstained secrets, morally questionable foreplay, and a Shichon with a bladder control problem, That Time I Accidentally Became a Serial Killer is the unhinged dark romcom you didn’t know you needed.
Rebekah Sinclair writes books that bite back. Dark rom-coms. Greek mythology retellings. Wicked fae. Billionaire antiheroes. Her stories blend unhinged humor, high-stakes heat, and emotional wreckage you’ll thank her for later.
With 11 published novels (and plenty more on the way), Rebekah has built a world of morally gray men, stabby women, and plot twists that hit like a betrayal kink. Whether you’re into serial killers with soft spots, gods who fall too hard, or fae realms soaked in shadow, there’s a love story in her lineup that will ruin you—in the best way.
Off the page, Rebekah is a single mom to five wildly chaotic kids and four fur-babies (two cats, two dogs, all equally dramatic). Writing started as her escape. Now it's her full-blown career, complete with exclusive covers, spicy book boxes, and signings where readers show up wearing eyeliner sharper than her plot twists.
When she’s not writing, she’s probably hiding from her kids in the pantry, pretending to be brainstorming.
Welcome to Rebekah Sinclair’s world. The spice is high. The stakes are higher. And no one makes it out emotionally intact.
OMG what a ride! This romcom was violent and gruesome, but the humour had me chortling squeamishly (and then judging myself). Legally Blonde meets Dexter is the *perfect* descriptor.
I went into this book somewhat blind, and I think that was the right decision. I was hooked from the first chapter, and couldn’t put it down until the end.
There were a few things I could nitpick, but I won’t because the entertainment level was so high.
I liked it much more than That Time I Accidentally Took Over The Mafia (which I rated 3 stars), as there was a lot more story and “dark charm” in this one.
This book was fucking funny, gruesome but wholesome (she never cusses…..unlike me 👀).
There is a spreader bar that she wakes up to. OOP.
Loved the stalker ish element and how she just takes charge. Legally blonde having a baby with Dexter the serial skiller is very apropos to this book 😂😂
I was never bored, the story was great and it’s not a love triangle, threesome deal thank god. If you need more deets, let me know.
The dog named Dexter was the best fucking thing about this book with his snaggletooth and delicate, refined palate.
This book is basically what happens when your ADA bestie decides “due process” is too slow, so she grabs her mother's chef knife and starts handing out justice with a smile.
She’s got a rescue dog named Dexter who treats human remains like a Michelin star buffet, and a morally questionable hottie who’s 100% down to help her hide the evidence because nothing says romance like joint felonies.
It’s like Legally Blonde, Dexter, and a true crime podcast had an unholy love child. I laughed, I gasped, I briefly reconsidered my moral code. 10/10 would recommend if you enjoy rom coms with extra stabbing.
DNF @ 70ish % -- This is probably one of my highest rated DNFs, and if I wasn't pressed on time I might have actually finished, but this just didn't work for me. Which is a shame, because I LOVED the first book in the Accidental series.
First, I really like Rebekah's writing style. Needs editing, but it's a very easy read and had me laughing many times. Sebastian may be my favorite side character of all time!
Minor spoilers below . . . . . This will spoil the love triangle tag: Anyway, we don't even get a legit interaction between them until 30% of the way through a 500+ page book which was frustrating. But I think my real problem is Poppy has trauma from her past which is why she puts men who commit sex crimes behind bars. And yet, SHE BECOMES A VICTIM OF A SEX CRIME. But we have to write it off as acceptable because her stalker is sexy and "protects" her despite taunting her and jerking off while she's not home. It was creepy, especially because there was no depth to that relationship. And unlike other stalker books where a FMC might be into masks or appreciates the helpful stalker, Poppy is ashamed and it just upped the ick factor for me. Declan is not much better. I didn't even get relationship potential vibes until closer to 60% of the book and even then it was pretty meh. Everything before that was "he's hot, let me stare at his junk."
This was a 4.5 for me. I had such a fun time reading this book and was able to finish it in one day. I really loved the vibes and personality of Poppy, and she just had me giggling the whole time. Now I will admit as a why choose girlie I am not usually a fan of love triangles but this one with the stalker and the cop had the tension building and I had to fight so hard to not skip to the end to find out who she chooses. It's been a while since I had that urge let alone to fight it because I can usually figure out things where I don't feel the need or I am so absorbed in the story that it doesn't matter.
For the characters I loved Poppy who was just herself and didn't give a fudge what other people thought when it came to who she was. She definitely embodied those Elle Woods vibes but then when everything was going down, she had some delicious female rage moments that I think so many people can relate too especially when you consider her victims. Felt very cathartic. I will say that is where she different from Dexter I only saw a couple episodes, but he seemed very methodical and unfeeling but was trained by his father on who to target. But that was just in the actual moments of shit going down when her rage overcame her. As the book progressed and leading towards some of those events, I definitely saw the dexter inspirations as well as I would make the comparison more for her stalker who was methodical when it came to the cleaning and handling of her targets.
Now when it comes to the love triangle and the two MCs, I had a hard time choosing because I liked them each for different reasons (hence why I am a why choose girlie). But I loved the stalker because of the way he teased poppy with his text messages as well as the lengths he would go to keep her safe. We should all have someone willing to go the lengths he was willing to go to take care of her and keep her safe. Now for the detective he has the whole closed off ice cold attitude, but I enjoyed watching poppy taking jabs at him and basically bringing him to his knees at least professionally with his murder board with post it notes and highlighters and pointed out things he missed. As a fellow lover of post, it notes and highlighters I was giggling so hard, but I also loved how he would just sit back and let her brain do what her brain needed to do, and he actually ends up appreciating it all.
Overall, I loved the characters, and the plot was really entertaining that had me equally angry for all the corruption but laughing because of Polly and her antics. I also want to say I am not a huge fan of fru fru dogs, but Dexter would convert me if I could be guaranteed a dog like him. His own antics had me laughing too. This book is a great example of a growing trend of dark romance comedy, and I loved it.
------
This book is about Poppy who is a prosecutor for sex crimes and now apparently by complete accident has become a serial killer but it's not her fault! It all started with her case against a rapist becoming a mistrial and he is allowed to go free end ends with her using her mother's hand me down knife slashing his throat and a stray dog peeing on this corpse. This was not in her plans but now she has this fluffy dog who name Dexter, a body count and an even bigger problem. You would think the body would be the problem, but no the problem is that someone saw her kill him and they liked watching her do it. So much so they helped her during her little breakdown by cleaning up her crime scenes, disposing of the bodies and give her some "helpful" tips for next time. As if dealing with all of that wasn't stressful enough, she has been assigned to a secret human trafficking task force led by none another Detective Declan who she has had a crush on for years. But it quickly becomes obvious there is widespread corruption who is trying to pin it all on him. As they work side by side to bring down this ring and all involved, she has to stay focus not just for proving his innocence but to rescue all the victims. But it's hard not to picture his mouth on hers when she has never been kissed before. But with two completely different candidates in the running to give her it only a matter of time before someone gets the claim that kiss. But between trying to decide between the two men there is still the little problem of all the bodies she keeps making and slowly she is starting to realize that when it comes to her little problem that she doesn't want to be saved, and she is going to finish what she started.
I love dark romantic comedies. They are the best genre. Anyway. This book kinda hooked me right from the beginning. You have an Elle Woods meets Lana Meyers moment and I’m so here for it. I could’ve read about Poppy till the end of time. This book has 3 POVs: Poppy, Declan, and Him. It was fun and honestly exactly what I needed right now with the world where it is. So 10/10. I’m sad that Poppy only gets one book but I will be reading the next book in the series ASAP. Also I’m somehow convinced Rebekah Sinclair was watching my dog Corndog when she wrote Dexter. Like it was uncanny how similar they were. Although Corny would absolutely never get bl**d on his paws. He’s too posh for that.
Tropes: workplace romance, staIker romance, touch her and d!e, funny pet side kick, he’s obsessed with her
Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Steam:🔥🔥🔥🔥 Sweetness:💗💗💗💗💗 Best pet: 🐶
I love this book so much, it is a fantastic story. I adore Poppy. She is smart and quirky with a little bit of crazy and Declan is perfect for her. I love the fast pace of all the events unfolding as well as the chemistry and spice. The action gave me all the heart-pounding moments mixed with a healthy dose of reality. The flow and rhythm were perfectly timed with the storyline and gave me all the happy feelings when it all came together in the perfect wrapped-up ending.
This was a fun read. It would be a good intro to splatterpunk. If Elle Woods and Dexter had a baby she’d be Poppy. She’s smart, funny, extremely hyper and a bit twisted. Her pup even has his own personality. The writing is a bit juvenile but the story is intriguing. It also made me laugh a lot which I always appreciate.
Oh this was good! Funny and so so good! I love it so much it’s definitely a darkish romcom and I’m obsessed with it! And when we find out the answers to everything it’s insane and crazy and just so bingeable!!!
More than I expected from it, I just read the titel and began. There is a dog so bonuspoints I loved the characters and it was such a adventurous jouney, just a funny and entertaining read 🩷🔪
This is a 517 page book - I don’t think anything in this genre needs to be this long.
It is also incredibly basic. Cliched. Cheesy. Alright I get it a barbi lawyer serial killer. That’s cool. Like that premise. But it’s got all the cheesy stereotypes. Starbucks triple shot pump whatever latte.
Listen I’m down for a pink loving serial killer or whatever but FMC is basic. The writing is basic. And besides some cliches there really isn’t much here.
Here are some examples.
“Fiddlesticks!” I hiss, grabbing the edge of the desk. “Fiddlesticks and flaming fudge rockets!” Because what I want to say is too unladylike for my lipstick.
—
I try to smile, try to put warmth in my voice. “Go pack a bag. Something cozy. Grab that pink hoodie with the wine stain you pretend not to love.”
“Pink is your color, Poppy.” There’s a little bit of that bite still in there.
“Pink is everyone’s color, if they are only brave enough to handle it.”
—
Okkk maybe this is some people’s jam but it’s not mine. There’s only 5 stars for reviews basically at this point so save yourself a favor and don’t read it if these things annoy you. I wish someone had warned me before.
Alright I’ve also realized why this book bothered me so much bc it’s basically white feminism to its core and has such savior complex vibes. Look I understand I didn’t read much of this book and if I’m wrong please tell me but what I got from the 70 pages or whatever was this. Like being a girly girl and a lawyer and serial killer is cool. Love that combo. But being basically so basic about it and saviory is not my vibe.
It’s a never read again author for me unless I’m convinced otherwise. And I’m open for sure.
If Elle Woods from Legally Blonde had a child with Dexter, this book would be their baby. Don't let the cutesy pink cover fool you, this book was surprisingly dark (I would put it in Dark Romance/Dark Comedy). I picked this up thinking it was going to be a romantic comedy, but it wasn't that. It was funny, don't get me wrong, I had a great time with it, but there is also a lot of heavy content and graphic scenes that, while I was maybe not prepared for, I did enjoy.
The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars from me, is because about the 70% mark we had some interesting plot choices that I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. There were decisions that didn't necessarily make sense, there were foundational conversations that changed at the end (I was super annoyed because that didn't make sense either. Why change something that has been Cannon for most of the book?), the ending while interesting didn't really wrap things up for me (I.E. What are these two going to do going forward with their lives? How does this relationship work exactly? Are we keeping the same day jobs while picking up these new nighttime gigs? Important stuff.) There were some small plot holes that didn't get resolved (Declan skipping the metal detectors at the courthouse, raising holy hell, and....no one follows up with this? Also...how far into the Need-To-Know is his Godfather?)
We lost track of our supporting cast which about had me in tears. Poppy's BFF Sebastian was such a hoot and I fell madly in love with him, but of course when Declan enters the scene Sebastian gets chalked up to the token Gay BFF to not challenge the MMC's masculinity and compromise his shot with the FMC.
These weren't big enough to really hinder my enjoyment of the book overall. I would recommend this one for those who are enjoying the 'serial killer' romance books that have been sweeping the genre. Its not your normal take, its funny, its out there, and it is good in all its bubblegum pink colored darkness.
I liked this book, I liked the premise and the spice was amazing. I loved the banter between Poppy and Declan. I really wish I could rate it higher but I wished the author had an editor, or if she did, a better one.
There were so many similes and metaphors. In the very beginning, her bff (who I think is only included so that she has a sassy gay friend that makes overly stereotypical gay quips) is described “hurricane chaos”. I thought it was weird. It must have stuck in my brain because I clocked the author describing someone with hurricane like attributes 5 times, same with things sounding like they were “underwater”. Just overused.
But the two biggest issue that irked me were how the dialogue was written and making one sentence an entire paragraph.
The dialogue: There would be an ongoing conversation between two people. Then Person A would quotation marks say something, end quotation marks, do an action. The next line making a new paragraph would start with new dialogue, with quotation marks and you would think it’s Person B talking, nope. Still Person A. Confusing and it happened frequently. Example: Poppy is having a back and forth conversation with her gay bff, Sebastian.
“Poppy Hartwell, dawn-slayer and breaker of men’s ego.” He taps my coffee in a mock toast. “You’ve got this, girlie-pop.”
Both of those lines are said by Sebastian. Why not put them in the same paragraph so you know who’s continuing to speak.
Which brings me to the last thing. I understand making a single line its own paragraph for emphasis, to really highlight the importance of what is said but when you have several pages in a row where every line is its own paragraph….it loses the oomph but I guess it helps you get more pages.
Like I said, I liked the story, I liked the characters, I just wish it had been edited better.
🔸Pink lover, Legal prosecuter with alternative curse words 🔸Grumpy, growly, dreamy homicide detective 🔸Protective, cocky stalker who cleans FMC's murders up in secret 🔸Light rom-com with crime & murder 🔸Rebellious, fashionable small dog accomplice to murder 🔸Gay best-friend coworker 🔸Accidental murder turned somewhat premeditated turned serial killer for justice 🔸Stalking, watching through hidden video cameras and invading the target's house (even with them inside) 🔸Investigating a case together 🔸Grumpy-sunshine, where he is brooding but cannot help himself but smile at the pink FMC 🔸He fell first 🔸Touch-her-and-die 🔸Age gap (?not sure how much, but not a focal point) 🔥Spice: inc. some dub con, blindfold, BDSM vibes, a scene with blood play 🔸FMC has never been kissed 🔸No virgins but not manwhore, FMC hasn't had sex for a while (didn't enjoyed it) 🔸FMC is the daughter of a rape victim 🔸No cheating 🔸Happy ending
❗Mentions several sexual criminals and reference of past rape/sexual violence (not MCs), attempt rape, torture & murder of criminals (not angsty, a bit comical revenge actually), stalking victims (not angsty), gore with disposing bodies and cleaning up crime scenes, stalking, cases about human trafficking
Notes: 🔸the plot was light, following several crime investigations and dealing with different criminals with focus on sexual crimes. However, while we do follow the crimes, it is all a bit superficial so it gets a bit confusing at times.

💀 BOOK REVIEW: That Time I Accidentally Became a Serial Killer by Rebekah Sinclair
Pack your pink murder kit and say a quick prayer to the morally gray gods because this book? Unhinged. Unapologetic. Utterly unputdownable.
Let’s get this straight: ✔️ Badass FMC who accidentally (but also kind of on purpose) starts a body count? ✔️ A jawline-wielding detective she’d rather stab than flirt with? ✔️ A stalker who’s oddly supportive… and hot? ✔️ A fluffy sidekick named Dexter who pees on corpses? CHECK, CHECK, AND FERAL CHECK.
This book is a love letter to the chaotic girls, the justice-seekers, and the ones who are so tired of playing nice. It’s bloody, bold, and has foreplay that belongs in a courtroom—or an evidence bag.
🔥 My Ratings: Spice: 3/5 (Think morally questionable slow burn with a side of tension that’ll have you yelling “JUST KISS ALREADY.”)
Torture/Trigger Level: 4/5 (Check your TWs—this one doesn't flinch.)
From first blood to final page, I was cheering for Poppy Hartwell like she was on trial and I was on the jury. Spoiler: I’d vote not guilty. Girl was serving vigilante goddess realness.
Final verdict? If you like your romcoms with sharp knives, sharper wit, and a stalker who might just be your soulmate—this one's for you. Off to binge everything Rebekah Sinclair has ever written because…same.
That Time I Accidentally Became a Serial Killer by Rebekah Sinclair is a home run of comical banter, floofy dogs with a Napoleon Complex, and a grumpy stalker with a bumble gum sunshiny serial killer. You know, just the every day things, right? The story takes you on a wild ride so buckle up buttercup! Things are about to get killer. Mixing Legally Blonde with a good spicy dark romance, this novel will take you on a ride (pun very much intended).
Poppy a sunshiny lawyer dressed in head-to-toe bubble gum pink fights for women in the courtroom and their right to feel safe. When evidence goes missing in her case against a 🍇ist and he walks free, she finds herself plotting inside the courtroom and outside of it. Declan a Mr. Grumpy Gills detective finds himself a suspect in his own investigation, so they pull in the brainiac blonde bombshell with a caffeine addiction (Poppy) to help him much to his reluctance. All the while Poppy tries to remain calm having a stalker after her. Everything’s perfectly fiiinnneeee. Right?
10/10 would read again. Top tier spice, chaos, and pink floof.
That Time I Accidentally Became a Serial Killer is exactly what it promises—a darkly funny, morally messy, and oddly romantic romp through the mind of Poppy Hartwell, a prosecutor who’s just one bad day (and one inherited knife) away from becoming the justice system’s worst nightmare.
From the very first line, I was hooked by Poppy’s sharp wit, chaotic inner monologue, and her knack for getting into the kind of “oops-I-committed-murder” situations that are somehow both horrifying and laugh-out-loud funny. The pink killing kit? Genius. The dog named Dexter? Absolute perfection. If you like your romance morally gray, your humor pitch-black, and your heroines delightfully unhinged, this book will be your next obsession.
Favorite line: “Justice isn’t just blind—it’s a whole lot messier than I ever imagined.”
Legally Blonde meets Dexter in this dark rom-com where lead Poppy Hartwell fights crime in the courtroom and enacts her own justice when the trials suspiciously fall through. The system is corrupt and the further Poppy goes to dig into that mystery, the deeper into her own darkness she falls while also juggling an attraction to her obsessive protective stalker and brooding detective partner.
I honestly enjoyed this one a lot more than the first mafia-based tale. Maybe because this one focused more on a solid plot line with the romance woven so subtly in but not overtaking the story. Or because there’s multiple POVs. Or because I’m just a sucker for Criminal Minds, morally gray characters, vigilante justice seekers, and bubblegum pink banter with a tiny puppy dog to match.
If you were a fan of Brynne Weaver’s Ruinous Love trilogy, I think you’ll really enjoy this book.
I devoured this book like it was my last meal on death row.
That Time I Accidentally Became a Serial Killer by @authorrebekahsinclair is pure chaotic brilliance—like Legally Blonde fell headfirst into Dexter and decided to make it fashion 💅💀
From the sharp wit to the downright unhinged moments (the turkey baster… IYKYK 😳🤣), every chapter had me either laughing out loud or side-eyeing my pets for potential accomplice energy. Speaking of pets—can we TALK about the judgmental doggie sidekick?! OBSESSED.
This book has spice, suspense, sass, and a morally questionable but wildly lovable FMC that made me want to hug her AND report her—simultaneously. It’s fast-paced, totally bingeable, and full of Rebekah’s signature dark romcom flair.
If you’re in your “laugh now, bury the body later” era? You need this series on your shelf yesterday.
Poppy and her amazing pup, Dexter, have made me laugh till I cry. Here's what you need to know:
Poppy is an attorney for the prosecutor's office by day... and a serial killer by night.
Her crush is a masked stalker who has caught her at the crime scene...
Now, I just finished reading this book, and I'm still reeling! I can't even begin to describe how much I loved it, but I'll try to put it into words.
The way Rebekah has crafted the characters was absolutely amazing, making me feel like I knew them personally. Plus, the plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat, and I genuinely didn't see them coming! Seriously, go read it now; you won't regret it!
Do not let the cheery cartoon cover fool you, this baby is DARK, but also don't let that fool you because I was also giggly and kicking my feet the whole time. There was so much humor and brightness which was needed to balance out the dark stuff. This sub-genre of "dark rom-com" is my new favorite. This one was a bit more of a slow burn than Accidental Mafia, but it was just as delicious. And when the spice finally hit, BOY DID IT HIT. I saw a lot of myself in Poppy and while I am not advocating for vigilante justice, I can certainly understand the appeal. Infinite stars. zero criticism. Can't wait to read the next book in the series and will definitely be re-reading this one.
Legally Blonde meets Dexter in this dark romcom, and I was so here for it. Poppy is a chaotic, pink-wearing, justice-seeking prosecutor turned vigilante who accidentally starts killing bad guys — and I couldn’t put it down. She’s bold, morally grey, and absolutely hilarious. And then there’s Declan… the grumpy detective with a brooding stare.
It’s a slowburn, but when the spice hits, it spicies 🌶️🔥 This book is quirky, a little gory and totally unhinged in the best way.
Tropes I loved: 💥 Morally grey FMC 💗 Grumpy x sunshine 💀 Vigilante justice 🌶️ Slowburn with spice 💋 Two love interests (but only one wins… maybe) 😂 Dark humor
⭐️ 4/5 stars — fun, fierce, chaotic, and pink but deadly.
I loved the Dexter-TV-show vibes of this book, and loved even more that she pseudo-stole a dog named Dexter. This book was hilarious but really dark. I was thoroughly entertained by this, loved the serious subject matter (even if I wish I would have read trigger warnings ahead of time), and enjoyed the banter between characters. However, I think the twist could have been done with a little more finesse, because while I guessed it ahead of time, there were certain things that made it not seem possible. I liked the first book of this series just slightly better than this one, but I've found a new top-ten favorite author in Rebekah Sinclair. Highly recommend this series!
If Elle Woods moonlit as a serial killer who killed awful people, had a murder puppy sidekick and a super helpful stalker that loves to clean up her crime scenes, then she would be Poppy!
These books are unhinged and I love them! This one had much more plot than the first and had a different vibe. I loved the mystery woven throughout the story as we try to determine who her secret admirer might be 🥰
Content warnings: mentions of SA and attempted SA (not descriptive), human trafficking, murder, violence, torture, blood/gore (eyeballs 🤢), manipulation, betrayal, BDSM themes (primal play, bondage, CNC, dub-con, etc), stalking, abuse of power/police corruption
This book! As someone who doesn't do gory, it was the perfect balance between ridiculous sweetness and derangement so I didn't feel like I was reading true crime. I just loved Poppy! Wear your pink biohazard suit and disposable gloves girl! She owned both sides of herself. Loved her guys too. Gimme a good stalker all the time! This had a heavy plot that didn't feel diminished by the humor nor dragged down by the serious topic. It was so balanced.
This was a completely unexpected happy surprise! Loved it!!
Oh my graham crackers!! Poppy, sunny, lollipop is such a crazy pink woman. She is funny, a bit OCD, and has some crazy moments. She is the best cereal unaliver because she only harms those who deserve it. The twists in this book i could see coming but when it was revealed I was so happy. I cant tell you what type of romance other than stalker/detective/pink attorney??? Just read it! Its super spicy at the wrong time which makes it so much better. I wish I had my own Declan.(don't tell my husband 😉)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Book Review That Time I Accidentally Became a Serial Killer by Rebekah Sinclair
This was such a fun, wild ride! Poppy absolutely gave me Legally Blonde vibes. The pink-loving, badass blonde attorney who refuses to let a corrupt system stop her from protecting her client. While That Time I Accidentally Took Over the Mafia is still my favorite, this one was a close runner-up.
Poppy is trying to keep a rapist away from her client, but with useless protective orders and police who can’t do much, she ends up doing her own “surveillance.” Enter Declan, the detective on the case…frustrating, steady, and someone she definitely starts catching feelings for.
But then there’s the other mystery man sending her anonymous, very dirty fantasy texts… and she’s not as immune to them as she pretends. I thought this would lean into a why-choose dynamic like book one, but the twist went in a completely different direction, and I was hooked the entire time.
The corruption in the justice system, the crazy case they’re trying to solve, the humor, the chaos, and Dexter the one-toothed dog! It all made this a super entertaining read. I can’t wait for the next installment.
This was such an enjoyable read. This series has me hooked for sure. Book one was super spicy. This one was more slow burn for me but still spicy goodness. The plot was even better. It was fun and a bit dark but so good seeing how justice was served and how everything went full circle. So freaking good. I've been on such a reading slump with everything going on around the world but Rebekah lightened up my time with this read. Fantastic 🖤🖤🖤
It has been a minute since a book took me by surprise. But dang this book did not disappoint.
I loved the banter in the first book so much so that I was worried this one wouldn’t match it. Glad I was wrong.
Legally Blonde meets Dexter really is a perfect description for this book. I never wanted to put the book down. The spice was perfect and so was the thrilling storyline.
If you are in a book slump I recommend you read this book (and series to be honest). You won’t be disappointed.
This is the second book I read by Rebekah and it did not disappoint. Poppy is an attorney who helps women after assault. She’s put together and dressed to the nines. Once case where the criminal gets off sends her in another direction that she ends up enjoying. Not to mention the mystery man who watches her every move. This is spicy, and has some gory details, but I loved it.
