The GriMM Tales

The Elves and the Shoemaker: An MMM Romance Fairytale Retelling

Rate this book
Can three lonely, wounded hearts make a whole?

Johan had resigned himself to spending his life alone. Until them. Until two sets of scared but fierce amber eyes peer at him through curtains of silky white hair, and Johan’s heart takes on a new beat. A beat he can’t ignore.

Despite escaping their captors, a dark cloud looms over Elias and Henrik’s heads. They were bought and paid for, after all.
However, their luck appears to change when they cautiously accept the offer of a roof over their heads from a kind but silent shoemaker. Only, it was meant to be a stopping-off point, a place to re-group before they start their new life. They had each other, and they were not supposed to fall for him.
Struggling to recover from invisible wounds, the two elves can’t always bear the weight of each other’s burdens. But maybe he can…
When it becomes the talk of the town that a local, unassuming shoemaker is selling elf-made shoes, will they be able to evade their captor once more?
More importantly, will they ever truly belong to themselves again?

This GriMM Tales retelling is an MMM romance featuring two kind but dramatic elves healing from their time in captivity and a shoemaker who yearns for connection in a world that has ostracised him for his inability to speak. Sometimes, a whole is three-thirds instead of two halves.

Each book set in the GriMM fairytale world can be read as a standalone and contains its own Happily Ever After story. Though you’ll definitely want to read each one, as the tales are connected to each other in multiple magical ways.

Having been an avid reader her whole life, Emory got back into writing in early 2023. She began writing the first draft of Star-crossed Betas in June of the same year, and the story spilled out of her onto paper in just seven weeks.

It didn’t take long for Emory to realise that there were more love stories to be told and a larger mystery at hand, so it became book one of a four-part series.

In the rare moments Emory isn’t writing or editing, she can usually be found reading with her cat, Buffy. Or, in better weather, out walking in the beautiful Yorkshire scenery that provided the perfect backdrop for her books.

“I think we just have to show him what we can offer him in return. Show him what it means to be loved by an elf. There are two of us after all, that’s a lot of love to give, Rik.”

Another fun retelling in the GRiMM Tales series, two sweet elves fall for the kind shoemaker.
I liked the characters, sunshine Elias and grumpy Henrik, both hurt boys in need of love, and silent Johan. They all complemented and completed each other.
I loved the blushing, the elves trying to court Johan, the cuddles.

“I fear I won’t ever be truly strong again.” Henrik’s voice cracked with emotion, and Elias wrapped his arms tightly around him. “Maybe we won’t have to be. Maybe we just need someone else to share the burden.”

While I enjoyed the romance, the plot was a bit thin. The drama would come and go, and it didn’t seem to really have any impact on the story, or it would end too quickly.
Still, a enjoyable, sweet & spicy MMM romance, with lovable characters.

“My heart is divided in two and neither belongs to me anymore.”

Thank you Emory Winters for sending me a copy of this book!

The Elves and the Shoemaker
ARC Review – 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The story centers around two elves, Elias and Henrik, who are recovering from the trauma of captivity. They encounter Johan, a mute shoemaker ostracized by society, and together they form an unconventional throuple. This retelling delves into themes of healing, connection, and the complexities of non-traditional relationships, offering a narrative rich with emotional depth and inclusivity.

I really loved their connection and how they became a throuple. It felt natural, like three broken souls finding happiness together. Johan is a beautiful gentle giant who discovers his voice with Henrik and Elias by his side. The elves balance each other perfectly—one pure sunshine, the other more grumpy sunshine, our kjære 🥰❤️

One thing that didn’t fully land for me was Elias’s personality shift. He went from being vulnerable and shy to a bit of a sassy brat—and not in the best way. He threw tantrums, picked fights with both Johan and Henrik, and started making over-the-top decisions while ignoring his partners’ needs. I understood his actions came from a place of desperation and love, but they still irritated me, especially since everyone ended up hurt.

In MMM romances, I especially love when the trio communicates openly, sets boundaries, and defines rules together. Here, it sometimes felt a little scattered, which made things uncomfortable for me—especially when two of them got together without the third, without clear prior agreement.

That said—😮‍💨 these boys are hoooooot. The acrobatics alone were worth it, and yes, there’s DP 👀 toward the end, which was such a fun payoff—especially with Johan’s innocence. Who doesn’t love a giant baby virgin finding his stride?

We also get fun cameos from Zel & Ulrich, Hansel & Gerhardt, and Red & Wim. I love how the plot keeps tying into the earlier books and expanding the universe.

This one was lighter on the gore and dark shenanigans, focusing instead on healing, connection, and finding their voices together. And honestly? I’m totally here to stay 🥰

“When the leaves turned brown, I asked whatever God who would listen if I would be alone forever.” Elias blinked up at Johan through wet lashes. He continued, “The next day, I found you both. The gr-greatest gift of my life. I… sometimes lose my words and can’t say it. But I… I love you both so much.” Johan’s eyes were a glassy mirror and the emotion held in the depths of them stole Elias’ breath. “You show us. You show us every single day,” Henrik said, his voice cracking. “My perfect family,” Elias added. “If it is the Gods who brought us together, I will find it in myself to forgive them.” He snuggled in even closer. “My happily ever after.”

⚠️Trigger warnings
Panic attack on page
An MC with an anxiety disorder (situational mutism)
Internal and external ableism
References to slavery and captivity (some of the language surrounding this is appropriate for the time period but might not be terminology we would consider best to use today)
References to violence experienced during slavery, including an instance of urination and an instance of flogging
Trapped in a confined space
Descriptions of violence and murder (including deaths which take place in a fire)
Instance of magic used against an MC without consent
Group sex within a closed triad
'Unsafe sex practises due to the time period
Historical death of parents
Family abandonment

I received a copy of this book from the author and is my honest opinion.

The Elves and the Shoemaker, the next GriMM Tales installment, delivers exactly what I’ve come to expect from the series: a dark, dangerous world softened by love and connection. Johan, Elias, and Henrik’s relationship was tender, healing, and heartwarming. I believed in their bond and adored the way their love triumphed over the brutality of their world.

That said, I often found myself wanting more. The world is harsh, but much of the conflict leaned on miscommunication or lack of communication rather than deeper external stakes. Some moments felt more “told” than “shown,” which made certain plot turns and emotional beats feel a little too easy or underdeveloped. With a setting and premise this rich, I wanted that extra grit, tension, and detail to fully immerse me.

Still, the relationship at the heart of this story was beautiful, and I closed the book smiling. If you love tender found-family romances in brutal fairytale retellings, this one will warm your heart.

3.5-stars, rounded up t 4 for Goodreads.

THIS. WAS. AWESOME. My first book by Emory Winters and one of my favorites in the series so far. I was blessed with an ARC. What a beautiful book! These are exactly the MMM romances I love, the kind where you can feel how much love the triad has to give, where no one feels left out or overshadowed by the other two. I’m very picky when it comes to poly romance books, and this one didn't disappoint me.

But oh, how wonderful it was to read Henrik, Elias, and Johan’s love story! Two elves, carrying painful scars from a life of captivity and forced labor, find not only shelter and food but also a warm heart ready to give them the home, and the love, that the two of them couldn’t quite fill on their own.

Elias’s sunshine personality and Henrik’s grumpy one are the perfect opposites, complementing each other beautifully. Their silly arguments and shenanigans bring light to Johan’s lonely life. This cinnamon roll of a shoemaker craves company, and he never imagined he’d find it in two wonderful elves who barged into his life, helped him with his shoes, refused to let him sit alone at the table ever again, and showered him with all the love he had been denied because of his struggles with words.

The cameos in this book were sublime, just as they’ve been throughout the series. It was such a delight to see characters from previous books again and to get more glimpses of the Queen and her evil schemes.

This book was one of the ones I was most curious about, since the fairy tale it’s based on is one of the shortest in the Brothers Grimm collection, and I never expected its MMM version to steal my heart like this. I definitely need to read more books by Emory, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next installments in the series. I can’t believe I’m already halfway through it!

The Elves & the Shoemaker is the fourth book in the collaborative "The GriMM Tales" series, and this one is written by Emory Winters.

Of all the books I’ve read in the series so far, I’ve truly enjoyed each one, but this one had something extra it wrapped me in such tenderness that it completely stole my heart.

I went in with high expectations because I love how Winters writes, and even though MMM isn't usually my go-to trope, this one surprised me in the best way.

I absolutely adored the story of Elias, Henrik and Johan with all my heart. Those little elves, (they’re precious!!) and Johan, with his gentle soul, made me cry happy tears reading about them finding each other. They need each other. No one completes the trio without the others. I have a soft spot for Elias, because brat or not, his courage and love are unmatched.

The atmosphere, the world-building, their pasts (especially Elias’s and Johan’s) hit me in the feels. Even with tense plot parts, this is a warm hug to the heart. I devoured this book in one sitting.

Stars infinite for these little elves and their shoemaker. Highly recommend to anyone who loves heartfelt fantasy, found family, emotional growth, and romantic threads that sting just enough.

While the titular elves are an established couple, their relationship feels new. I liked seeing Elias and Henrik learn more about each other and how they fit together as free men. Not exactly a convenient time to realize they're both falling for another man.

Johan could have easily felt like a third wheel, but I ultimately felt he was an equal part of their relationship. I especially loved seeing all three adapt their communication styles so everyone feels heard.

I noticed many appearances of the characters of Little Red Riding Hood, Zel, and Hansel and Gerhardt. While some were integral to the plot or intersected with the plot of previous books, others felt disconnected. Hansel and Gerhardt's break-in was particularly confusing to me. Maybe I missed or forgot that reference. For this reason, I'm not sure that this book would work as a standalone; I recommend reading the previous books first.

Thanks so much for the chance to check out an advance copy. I'm leaving this review of my own accord.

Ahhh, Eli and Rik broke my heart, my god what they have endured, I’m so glad they had each other. The cruelty is another level. Johan is kind and gentle and so very lonely, and just what they need after their harrowing escape, I am grateful they found each other.

I loved seeing the rescue scene from their perspective when Red and Wim helped them escape. And I’m inordinately happy the comeuppance the queen’s men got at the end, hugely satisfying. Though the queen really creeps me out!

Man this is turning out to be a rambling review but the story was so so so good, I loved literally everything about it, Eli’s emerging personality, loss and healing, sacrificing for each other, sweet gentle moments, fiery chemistry, all the cross overs my heart desired, vanquishing evil, safety everythingggg

Highly recommend reading this.

Oh, this series keeps making me feel all the things 🥹

In this beautiful retelling story, we see what happens when two vulnerable and hurt elves meet a human who wishes nothing more than for them to be protected and cared for.

Elias and Henrik are elves. They are not exactly in a good space when we frist meet them and I wanted to hug them so badly and tell them it's going to be okay 🤧

Johan is a human shoemaker, and he lives a quiet and uneventful life. That is, until Elias and Henrik cross his path. Soon, neither of them is where they used to be in life, and that's such a relief.

The fact that Elias and Henrik were so close and yet needed Johan so much? So beautiful. He really needed that, all of them did for sure 🫂

What a beautiful story 💕

"They might not be his. But they were his to protect."

I have to admit—this is the only Grimm tale I didn’t already know, which made it even more exciting to read and discover something new. And what can I say? I loved it! Once again, I’m completely obsessed with the way these books connect with each other. We get scenes we’ve already seen in the other Grimm books, and the way it’s woven together is just brilliantly done. Add in the playful use of language, and it makes the GriMM series one of my absolute favorites of the year so far.

Henrik, Johan, and Elias are simply wonderful together. They’re so different from one another, yet it works perfectly. Elias is the bold, straightforward one; Henrik is full of self-doubt but endlessly devoted to Elias; and Johan is the quiet observer, who eventually breaks free from his insecurities and lets these two little elves into his heart. I adore the dynamic between the three—it feels not only beautiful but also so believable.

Retelling, tons of hurt/comfort, dark world, but very loving and sweet MCs.

Ok, I had a few issues with this book, but I still loved it soooo much. I thought the first half was fantastic, well-paced, and did an amazing job setting up the personalities and pasts of the MCs as well as the (very dark and grim - heh) world.

I loved Johan and his quiet, steady nature; Henrik, whose anger and pessimism are always right there at the surface; and small, chaotic Elias, who brings so much joy to his loves. All three have a seemingly endless well of heartache, but while Henrik and Johan wear theirs right out in the open, Elias buries his under optimism and encouragement. He has a lot he needs to learn about being free, being in a relationship, and learning to rely on others.
Johan’s smile was warm, and Henrik felt less like the miserable rain. He pondered that maybe Johan was an umbrella, well equipped for the relentless drizzle that poured from Henrik’s soul.

Even as difficult as everything was, there were also some fun moments. When the elves decide to court Johan, they realize quickly that he wouldn't realize he was being courted. So they ramped up their efforts:
“No. Rik pointed that out when you didn’t seem to understand what we were doing. I thought this might be obvious enough, though, no?” Elias beamed, and Johan laughed until his shoulders shook. Only Elias would leap from making clothes to sucking Johan’s cock with nothing in between.

So, for a couple of issues...I was really glad the whole story alternated between the different POVs, but what's the point of different POVs if we aren't privy to information the other MCs don't know? This is why Elias's choices bothered me; his POV was mainly being optimistic and encouraging, but he makes some choices he'd clearly been planning a bit, but we know barely any more than the MCs.

I would have been happy with a little more book to read.

But as I said, I loved it. So much good comfort for three very, very hurt men. I'm obsessed with the world now and I'm hoping hoping hoping the series ends with an HEA for everyone.

I’ve read this author before and I’ve enjoyed her books, so I knew going into this that unless it was disastrously edited/had an atrocious plot then I’d be fine.

I did enjoy this, now I have a confession, I’ve not actually read the ‘fairy’ tale this is based on, so I went in blind with no reference at all. I have no idea if this book draws from any components of the original, but, bottom line, I thought it was great.

We had grumpy, sunshine and massive softee as our personalities and they worked. Frankly after being stuck in slavery I get why one of our elves is so grumpy, our sunshine is hiding a huge amount of pain and that comes out later. Whilst our softee just needs a huge hug, his character suffers from selective mutism, and whilst the disability isn’t at the forefront I thought it was weaved into the plot well.

Now, I understand this is part of a multi-author collab, and I presume at some point the evil queen will get her dues, but it doesn’t happen in this book. We get more evidence of her evil ways, and some cameos from other books in the series. If you want high action then this isn’t for you, it’s just a lovely book with a good dose of hurt comfort and a peppering of spice - not loads, starts maybe 50% in. Also great communication rep, they mess up, they talk, no sulking thankfully (it’s a pet peeve that I hate).

I’m looking forward to reading more in this world.

While this story contains some dark aspects (i.e. slavery, authoritarian rule) this story was pretty sugary sweet. The characters are distinct and interesting enough to hold your attention. Emory Winters' prose is well done and has well constructed characters. That said, this story felt a little lacking for me. A lot of things felt very surface level, which ultimately leaves me feeling like this story will be easily forgettable. It's such a shame. The premise is great, and I did have a good time while reading, but I did want more than what I got from this story. All that to say, I don't think this will be the last time I try this author. There's a lot of potential that I'm hopeful will be reached in future works.

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!

- Relationships where both (All in this case!) members are bruised and broken but they come together to slowly fix and heal each other??? That's my KRYPTONITE
- Not all relationships can be perfect and couples argue! Seeing that in a romance book is so refreshing.
- The prose is beautiful it gave me tingly winglys
- Disability rep SLAY!!! Partial Mutism, panic attacks and dare I say, chronic pain?
- Cosy, low angst, just BEING together and making each other happy.

Ugh I could go on and on and on thank you Emory Winters!!!

This book was an ARC from the author, all opinions are honest and my own.

Sweet and swoony, these three were perfect for one another. With Elias’ happiness and Henrick’s grumpiness, Johan seems to fit between the two nicely, calming arguments, and giving the two elves whatever they need when tensions are high. Whereas the Elves gave Johan all the love and affection the poor touch starved man deserved.

This book is a great low angst hurt x comfort, with quite a lot of funny moments thrown in.

I liked that Elias was the sunshine baby, but put his loves at risk and he’ll burn the world (or house) down for them. While Henrick comes across prickly but loves hardest, and is a little bit of a scaredy cat. With Johan, what you see is what you get, a giant soft teddy bear, protector, who can hold a grudge like nobody’s business.

Of course Henrick was my favourite 😏 I love a grumpy boy.

Completely obsessed! 💖

I absolutely loved this book! 😭❤️ The way Johan, Henrik, and Elias’s love and admiration for each other grew so naturally, despite their struggles, broke my heart in the best way possible. Johan’s quiet care for these two while he himself was dealing with loneliness hit me so deeply—I had actual tears in my eyes at some moments! 💔➡️💗

Elias and Henrik’s escape from captivity and how they stumbled into Johan’s life felt like fate at work. Johan, a quiet shoemaker ostracized by the world for being unable to speak, never expected two scared but fierce elves to fall for him—but fall for him they did! 🧝‍♂️👀👀 Their bond, their trust, and the way they slowly healed together was written so beautifully. Watching them navigate their trauma, insecurities, and deep love made every page a heartfelt experience. 📖💞

I especially loved how the book connected with characters from the previous stories! Seeing familiar faces living their lives, loving each other—it felt like coming home. 🏡💫 The scenes overlapped with events from earlier books, and the weaving of all these threads together was brilliantly done. The playful use of language added extra charm, and I found myself smiling constantly throughout! 😍📚

Henrik, Johan, and Elias were such a wonderful trio! Elias, the bold and straightforward elf; Henrik, full of self-doubt but endlessly devoted; and Johan, the strong silent type who finally lets his heart open—it was such a believable and beautiful dynamic. 💕 They’re so different, yet perfectly balanced!

For anyone who loves a slow, emotional romance with beautiful world-building and characters who truly care for one another, this is a must-read! 📖✨ The story doesn’t shy away from trauma, disability, or the harshness of the world, but it shows how love, patience, and understanding can help broken hearts heal.

A huge thank you to the author, Emory Winters, for the ARC opportunity! 🙏💝 It was a privilege to read this heartfelt story.

Incredible, I always love a good MMM romance

Elves and the shoemaker is the fourth book in the GriMM retailing series personally I have never heard of the original story before so I was quite excited to begin this

Elias and Henrik escapes captivity and finds themselves being taking in by the quiet shoemaker they were not supposed to fall for him, but they did can three broken hearts heal together and create one

I think all of the characters was extremely well written, Henrik the Stoic softy, Elias the positive troublemaker and Johan the strong silent guy all of them together for such a beautiful relationship and they love each other so deeply you can feel it in the writing

I was especially surprised about how much I liked the spice It’s been a while since I’ve read a DP scene and I loved it

I admire the author for how she wrote this romance I find that many authors have trouble writing MMM romance without the aspect of jealousy and that’s why I admire this there was such a minimal jealousy almost none and that really made my day all the main characters really can a lot for each other and always included each one of them when intimate physical or otherwise

I know this is a bit of a short review, but I’m gonna end it here and say that I read this book a 5 out of 5 stars I simply could not put it down and I would recommend this to someone who’s looking for a retailing of incredible stories though I would recommend you read the entire series because a lot of of the character characters from the other books do come into the light in this book too they are kind of interconnected if you could say it like that but if you are looking for a hurt comfort MMM romance with some spicy spices and a little bit of angst then I would recommend this for you
but remember to form your own opinions and not just listen to me
Until next time, my loves…

Rating: 5/5
Spice: 3/5
Angst: 3/5
Would I read again: yes

The Elves and the Shoemaker by Emory Winters is the fourth installment in the GriMM series. This was just so absolutely sweet and heartwarming but don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely spice.
Elias and Henrik are two elves on the run and working through some traumas, they come across a silent hero in the local shoemaker Johan. The three of them soon become well acquainted and slowly help each other heal, I really appreciated the vulnerabilities they all showed as they became comfortable with each other. As their bonds grow, so did their emotions and these three went through so much. I haven’t read very many throuple stories but these guys just work well together. The spice is good here too, Johan is inexperienced, and the care they took to ensure he was comfortable and ok with everything was so great to see. Once that comfort level was reached, it led to some really great scenes especially in the epilogue!
One thing I like about this series are the cameos of other characters, I look forward to seeing who will pop up and when and this did not disappoint!
What really drew me to this story were the themes of healing and the connections we make along the way. This is another great entry into the series, check this out - it’s available today!

This MMM story has been different from the other MMM romance that I've read, not only because it's between two elves and one human, but that their relationship dynamic was a bit more volatile. And it just shows me that all kinds of dynamic can happen between individuals.

I love that at the core of this romance was them three figuring out their relationship with each other, like how they play into each other's life, and working through their own insecurities and finding out how best to navigate their relationship when things go wrong.

There was never a dull moment with this book, so much happened, externally and internally.

One of the funny parts that made a lasting impression was when the elves tried courting the human, only to realize that the human did not understand elfin courting rituals. So they just had to spell everything out.

Oh I totally forgot to mention how accepting the elves were of the shoemaker' selective mutism, and although it seems like he's just naturally a silent person, it was great to see how the elves were able to learn communication through touch and other methods besides verbally.

I love the full circle moment when the elves met back up with Red and Wim. It was great to have that and the other character cameos in the book like when they went to visit Ulrich to have the enchantment bracelet removed. However I didn't see the point in the visit with Hansel and Gerhardt, or was it just a nice nod to them to connect the series.

All in all I really liked this story and the growth of the characters throughout the book.

I wasn't very familiar with the fairytale even though I've heard it when I was little so didn't have much expectations in advance.
This is however my first polyamorous story! While I'm always open to diversify my reading, I was a bit hesitant because I sincerely had no idea what to expect.

After reading it though, I think this might be my favorite book in the series so far. It's close to a cozy fantasy but also tackles some darker subjects like slavery/captivity and there's quite some angst involved, mainly caused by our favorite elf, Elias.

The story made my heart feel warm, even with all the angst, and I fell in love with all three of our main characters.
I just want to wrap them in a blanket and protect them at all cost!
All three of them had been through a lot of trauma but the love they have for each other in indescribable.

I'd also like to note how happy it made me to see the return of characters from other books and to have the overlap of events from one book to the other. It reassures the reader that they are also still doing well 😁

I 100% recommend picking up this book as this will probably end up in my top 5 favorite books!

4-⭐

I really enjoyed this throuple. Now, the adventure plot here is almost non-existent, this is mainly a romance. Which is a good choice for a throuple full of sweetness. So I rate it accordingly, but the earlier titles in this series have been stronger in plot involving the kingdom and the mysteries of this world. I cannot help loving a book about three kind men completing each other. It's not all smooth sailing, but they all try. (And the threesomes are hot.)

The lack of bigger plot probably added to the sweetness, since there was a definitely a lot less violence and horror in this one. The elves escape slavery and there are some deaths, but it's not quite as grim as the earlier books. While I was happy with the romantic emphasis here, I admit that some plot elements were still a bit too glossed over.

I am not familiar with the original tale, I might have read or heard it as a kid, but have no real recollection. I checked the outline of the story but it's very similar with many other tales of magical helpers that should be treated well. So I didn't get the possible enjoyment of seeing the twists and references to the original.

This is a MMM with the two elves already in a romantic relationship, they are stubborn and they fight but they are so attached to each other and tbh after what they have been through I don’t blame them. When Johan takes them in they are just scared little elves until he shows them it’s okay and they realise he’s their missing piece. I mean it doesn’t happen over night as they all try to navigate living and working together whilst the elves realise their attraction to Johan. Johan has selective mutism ( a huge weakness of mine ) and finds comfort and companionship with them. Their love scenes are hot & spicy but also beautiful. As always the book took some twist and turns I wasn’t expecting but it really all works out in the end and I actually love how the more I read this series, the more I see how they interconnect.. Possibly my fave of the series so far :)

Three men all looking for something

Elias and Henrick are enslaved elves who get a chance in lifetime when their captor is killed and they escape into the woods. Without their magic they are incomplete but being freed is everything they dreamed of.

Johan is a shoemaker who has been struggling with his show and his inability to have conversations with his customers. He has been alone for a long time. Then one day on his way to get materials he sees two elves that he is immediately inclined to help. They are quick to accept a roof over their head.

These three are so precious together. Henrick and Elias were already together and when they decided they wanted Johan it was so sweet. They all have their quirks but they work so perfectly together.

Their story isn't all easy since they were supposed to be heading into service with the queen. When it is rumored the shop has free elves tgey must fight for survival. They have many struggles and setbacks but their love and hope burn bright.

Two elves, who know nothing but hardship and a human who has been alone for too long.....

After a narrow escape from the slave traders, the elves Elias and Hendrik have but one goal, survive and never get caught again. Help comes in the form.of the gentle shoemaker Johan, who takes them in and gets more than he ever dared to dream of.
Of all the GriMM Tales books I've read so far, this was the cutest. So many tender moments beween the three of them, even if the tempers of the elves clash every now and then. The dialogues are hilarious and the way Hendrik understands Johan, even if he has difficulty using his words is absolutely adorable. I could have gladly stayed longer with these three men and loved the cameos of the other characters in the series.
The Elves and the Shoemaker can be read as a standalone but it's way more fun to start at the beginning of "The GriMM Tales" to catch all the Easter eggs laid out all through the series!!

I went into this book quite blindly, not knowing the original story or the author, and ended up reading a splendid story.

I wasn't in the best mental space when I started the book, but it quickly acted as a soothing balm as I got lost in the pages, pulling an all-nighter until my eyes closed against my will simply because I couldn't put it down. It was simply great.

I read it in two parts on rainy days, bundled up in bed with a cup of tea, and I find that it's probably the best way to enjoy that book: it is, for the most part, extremely cozy. The story isn't without intrigue, and don't get me wrong: my heart clenched more than once while I was reading, and I nearly cried at one point, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

This book made me realize that I have a soft spot for mute/barely speaking MCs: Johan was a sweetheart. Kind and forgiving, the shy man can do no wrong. I also loved Elias and Henrik dearly, although the three of them couldn't be more different: seeing them all together, surviving with a surprising resilience, made me happy in turn.

I simply adored their story.

I recieved a free copy of this book and this is my honest review

Emory Winters continues the GriMM Tales with a spectacular retelling of the Elves and the Shoemaker. This story is like a gift that has many parts to it and I loved unwrapping all of it. Elias and Henrik have escaped horrific conditions and are found by Johan. These three are so endearing. They each have dealt with so much hurt and trauma in the past, but they find a way to support and love each other as they are. Sometimes it's easy to feel unlovable. But having others who accept you in spite of your perceived flaws and don't try to change you is beautiful. It's a message we can all embrace right now. Emory has done a fantastic job continuing this series and I will be coming back to this story and these sweet guys often.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (4/5)
