The latest Madam and Eve collection I’ve read is less political than the earlier compilations, but makes up for it by being much more meta. Lots of fourth wall-breaking moments and characters from other comic strips here. This comic certainly got experimental, but that’s not bad at all.
There is more of a focus on the grandma character interacting with an adorable little black girl. I don’t mind that, because the grandma character reminds me of my own granny. And when I say this comic gets less political, it doesn’t mean it completely got rid of politics. Madame and Eve for president!
Love the characters and the frequently very silly story lines and so far I don't have to look up too many of the references to get the political jokes.
Fantastic comic strip. the art is a combination of garry trudeau and berke breathed. characters from doonesbury show up(as does frumpy the clown, i think). the humor is influenced heavily by peanuts, the characters often break the third wall. there are somethings i don't understand for which there is google. what are mielllies and bafana? some of the politcal humor is specific to s. africa, but wide enough that everybody knows a politician like That.
would love for this strip to be carried in some american papers!
