A two week beach vacation with a near-perfect stranger.
Tess Monroe has done a lot of crazy things, but this just might top the list.
After years spent trying everything to keep the sadness from her parents’ deaths at bay, Tess has hit a wall. It’s time for a change, and part of that means stopping her annual stays at the resort she’s been visiting since childhood. Hell-bent on making the most of her last trip, she’s thrown for a loop when a man she shared a chance encounter with almost a year ago shows up, crashing her summer vacation.
Kit Llewellyn has a good thing going. He’s a Sheriff’s deputy in a small town with a bachelor reputation that precedes him. But one fateful weekend with Tess left him acutely aware of everything he lacks in life. Namely, her. Try as he might, he can’t get her out of his head. Which is how he finds himself checking into the Carmen, with no better plan than to make himself as unforgettable for Tess as she has been for him.
Two weeks at a resort can’t possibly heal what took a lifetime to break. But when Tess and Kit, who’ve spent years running from their respective problems, finally run into each other, those raw edges stop feeling quite so jagged. It’s got them both wondering what happens next; a question that would take more PTO than either of them has to finally answer.
Fate may have brought them together, but it’s up to Kit and Tess to decide if their stay is worth extending, or if they should check out before any more hearts get broken.
Hannah’s accolades include a 2nd grade teacher who said her story about bats had “very good potential” and enough accelerated reading medals to sink a body at sea. Her goals in life are to write Contemporary Women’s and New Adult Fiction novels that will make you cry and to check everything off the bucket list she wrote at seventeen. Hannah resides among the rolling hills of Tennessee with her other half and their clingy golden retriever. When she is not writing, she is trying to outrun her sweet tooth in the gym
Thank you Hannah for the gifted ARC! All opinions are my own.

💭This was such a beautiful story! My heart ached for both Tess and Kit as they navigated through their struggles. They had such a strong connection, and I loved seeing how they were able to support each other and grow individually.
What really stood out to me in this story was the family that Tess found in the staff at the Carmen hotel. The way that they took Tess in as one of their own over the years was so beautiful to see, and I loved her special heart to heart moments with Jenna and Mo.
I really enjoyed the hotel setting with its summer vibes, and it would make a great beach read!
I absolutely loved "Every Heartbeat After" by Hannah Bird. Grief, love, family, heart, friendship, and trauma collide in this emotional, well-written, slow-burning-but-perfectly-paced book full of fantastic characters, excellent banter, and heavy topics handled in a delicate and careful but profound manner. Believe me when I say I could not put this book down... It's not just hyperbole! I loved Tess and Kit so, so much. Their character arcs are some of the best I have read in a long while. They have both individually been through some terrible things in their lives, and they are each hesitant about love. Still, it is obvious to both of them that there is something between, an incandescent spark that draws them to one another despite their best efforts. The longer they spend together, the more healing they do, soothing their old wounds to hopefully make a better, stronger path forward for them to be together as a couple. Can they get over their traumas, pains, and sorrows in order to be with one another in the long term? As I mentioned above, the two of them have fantastic banter together. I laughed out loud on more than one occasion at their antics. I also "ooooo"ed and "awwwww"ed out loud several times. This story is just so dang sweet and healing. I think it is spicy in all of the right places, sentimental when it needs to be, and tough when push comes to shove. I got immersed in this world and with these characters. I fell in love with both of them for different reasons and rooted for them to be together the entire time. This is the first book by Hannah Bird that I have read, and I cannot wait to read more!
Thank you to Hannah Bird for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for my review.
Wow! Hannah! What an emotional read this was! I was tearing up with this one. I’m not one to cry while reading a book but certain things make me and Kit and Tess sure as hell made me tear up a few times throughout this story.
Kit and Tess meet in Loveless, CO by chance when Tess goes to visit her uncle Gary that she recently found out about through an ancestry website. Gary is the half brother of her mother which she didn’t know about. Tess is delicate and fragile when we first meet her, losing her parents due to a car accident changed her whole world as they were very close. Due to her grief she shuts the world out and is a nomad, always wandering around and not putting roots down. Kit changes that in her from their very first meeting even though she doesn’t admit it to herself.
Kit is also struggling after a divorce and his brother’s struggles which his drug addiction. Kit is a man who needs to be the hero and save and fix everything and everyone including his brother and parents who at the start of this book have a rocky relationship. Kit grows a lot during this book due to Tess and realizing his faults and what he is doing isn’t helping anyone. His journey is tough but with Tess in the picture he comes out of it in the end.
Tess broke my heart. I can’t imagine the grief she went through and still goes through in this book. Having lost my mother a few years ago I can understand her grief. Loosing a parent or parents in her case is the worst possible thing that can happen to a person. She holds on tight to her grief, still going to a beach resort The Carmen every May in FL so she can be close to her parents as they vacationed there every May when she was a kid.
It was a battle with Tess and letting Kit in and it showed. I felt for her and then I wanted to shake her and tell her to let Kit in! They had chemistry and such a strong connection and it just grew and I was so happy at where they ended up! Also those spicy scenes, especially the shower ones were my favorite!
Such an emotional and heart warming read! Hannah likes to give you a gut punch but in the best way!

happy release day @hannahbirdauthor !! this book was so refreshing to read🥹 i adored kitt & tess and i just LOVED being back with the loveless characters, even though the setting was different! about the setting now.. the summer vibes were absolutely vibing😍😍 the character growth, the friendships, the cameos (!!) and the way the topic of grief was handled in this one was just beautiful 🤍🤍

my hannah bird book rankings so far: ✧ the cost of forgetting you (my forever fav🥹) ✧ the end & then ✧ promise me this ✧ every heartbeat after ✧ that christmas kind of feeling (novella) ✧ what's left of me
thank you for the e-arc! so grateful for the opportunity🫶🏻 ◡̈
Boy, when I got the email through saying I was getting an ARC I was so excited but my heart started breaking because Hannah Bird has a way of completely breaking your heart, making you cry and then piecing you back together again, stronger than before.
And, this is EXACTLY what this book done for me.
Grief, this is what this book is about. How we all deal with grief so differently. How some of us allow it to take control and we can’t move on from our feelings, emotions and wishing for another moment with our loved ones.
Tess lost both her parents, and there is no easy way to deal with that. She was doing all she could to keep their memory alive; to feel close to them - returning to The Carmen - a resort she visited with her parents. She’s been going here for years. The same routine. The same feelings. Dying a little more inside every time.
Then we meet Kit when she visits her new-found Uncle Gary. He hugs her once and these emotions arise from within her. She feels things she hasn’t since the death of her parents. Kit is going through his own struggles but never once does he stop showing up for Tess. I want to cry, guys.
This is a story of finding yourself after a death that all but consumes you. Allowing yourself to continue living life; to allow you to love and BE loved; to allow you to grieve whilst having a special someone right beside you to hold you.
Ugh, I just can’t, OK? I can’t cope with how utterly beautiful this book is. I am a huge fan of Hannah Bird. She just knows how to hit you right in the feels. A beautiful, heart wrenching yet mesmerising book. Thank you for sending me an ARC.
“I don’t know what it means, or how much it will change things between us. But I do know that you’re the only person in the world who makes me feel even a little less alone.”
*thank you so much to the author for an e-archive of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Being back in Loveless is just soooo sweet! I absolutely adored this new @hannahbirdauthor novel (shocker) and will not stop thinking about it!
Something about a dual pov where the man falls first and hard is just 💋 I absolutely loved Kitt and Tess… the only thing that would’ve made this book better would be reading it by the beach!
My fav thing about @hannahbirdauthor books is all of the emotion! She writes about grief beautifully, and while you may shed a tear or two, her books are so unbelievably hopeful you can help but crawl back to be hurt again! Truly an auto-read author I’m obsessed
read if you like: summer romance, found family, forced proximity, he falls first, a kiss they can’t forget
Hannah Bird is the Queen of emotional romance and gorgeous book covers, and Every Heartbeat After falls nothing short of amazing on both fronts! I have been (im)patiently waiting for Kit’s book, and it exceeded every expectation I had!
I feel like this book is such a great representation that we have no idea the past (and current) traumas that people around us have experienced. It’s so easy to judge people when we don’t know the circumstances that made them that way.
I loved getting to explore Tess and Kit’s current and past experiences and how it’s shaped them into who they are now. Tess has trauma from so long ago that she hasn’t been able to fully deal with (which is so relatable), while Kit’s is more recent (and one still ongoing). They were a great example of how it’s much easier to help someone with their trauma, than to work on your own. There were just so many aspects to this book that were so incredibly relatable to me, and I think would be to anyone else (whether they’ve experienced these things or not).
As always, I am obsessed with Hannah Bird and already excited for whatever is next!!
- found family - forced proximity - he falls first and hard - summer vacation romance - sheriffs deputy MMC - aquarium dates 🦈
Tess is still grieving her parents and she sets off on a trip to meet her new-found uncle for the first time. She ends up meeting Kit, one of the local sheriffs deputy’s, when she needs a ride from the airport when her uncle is busy. They continue to cross paths while she’s there but unfortunately Tess’s stay to meet her uncle is short and she has to go back home. But, Kit CANNOT get her out of his mind no matter what he does or how much he tries. Which is why come May, he gets on the plane to Florida to surprise her at her yearly vacation to The Carmen, a beach resort she used to frequent with her family….i mean…..she did invite him to go………….right?
Kit shows up for Tess from the get go, no questions or doubts about it and I LOVE them. He is so patient with her and cares for her so deeply, even while he tries to navigate his own family struggles I mean even he talks to a photo of her parents that hangs in the resort lobby 😭 seeing these two fall in love and ALLOW themselves to be loved was so beautiful. Hannah, please expect a bill from my therapist, as per usual 💙
Kit and Tess were everything. Hannah has such an utterly poetic, beautiful, and captivating way with words. Her stories grab my attention from start to finish. Her books feel like coming home, like it's ok to not have everything figured out, and they make you feel seen and heard. Hannah writes about real life trials and tribulations, but her character's always get the most perfect HEA. Some tears (or many) may be shed while reading, but I PROMISE you her books are so worth the bittersweet tears and heartbreak to get to the HEA. And in my opinion, the tears and heartbreak make the HEA that much more worth it in the end.
Tess Monroe has been through a lot in the past years since her parents death. Dealing with the trauma has been a full time job. She doesn't want to let the memory of them go. And the one way she knows how to hold on to the memory of them is by visiting the resort her and her parents used to frequent every year of her childhood until their passing. The resort, the Carmen, holds a lot of memories for Tess. What she doesn't expect to occur at the resort is to run into the man she had a chance encounter with months ago, Kit Lllewellyn.
Kit is a deputy sheriff in the small town of Loveless, Colorado. Like Tess, he's dealing with his own demons, just getting by in life one day at a time. But when Tess enters his life, it feels like he can actually breath again. They both have so much hidden trauma, neither of them wanting to burden their loved ones with the weight of what they carry. But can they learn to let love in and be each other's lifeline? Or is their time at the Carmen really just a temporary escape until they have to face life's harsh realities?
The way Kit pursued Tess? Perfection. The way he helped her remember her parents? I sobbed. The way they took care of each other through their traumas? I sobbed some more. This was such an incredible story where our characters went on quite the journey from start to finish. Not only physical journeys, but mental health journeys, self discovery journeys, and so much more. It was heartbreakingly beautiful with the most perfect HEA. And the epilogue?! I was in shambles. There's just something about a hard fought love where the characters go through so much, and to find that they get the perfect ending, it's so so rewarding and heartwarming.
Thank you, Hannah, for sharing your "bittersweet ever afters" (the perfect description that you give to them). They're ones that stay in my heart forever and books I will always cherish. Can't wait to add another one of your beautiful books to my "Hannah shelf."
It was beautiful! I have so much love in my heart right now, thanks to Hannah Bird
This story follows Tess and Kit on a journey through trauma, self-love, and pure romance. Their precious characters represent grief and pain in the most raw way, touching very sensitive parts of my soul. But at the same time, the story finds its way to put everything back together and end in so much love ♡ and hope.
If you're in the look, a romance book with the right amount of spice, nice plot, summer vibes, found family, and tons of love, trust me, this is the one! This is a true and true romance novel that will forever have a spot in my heart.

Every Heartbeat After is an absolutely beautiful story about grief and growth. Kit and Tess met by chance and despite Tess’s constant attempts to play it cool, their connection was undeniable.
The banter throughout was so cute and funny (number freaking 5 of the list☠️). I loved how Tess constantly called Kit out on his stupid attempts at flirting. I loved Kit’s patience and understanding with Tess, and how he spoke to her parents. THE DREAM, god my heart shattered but in such a good way because I know first hand how healing dreams like that can be. KIT’S GIFT TO TESS… Hannah we were gonna fight if that didn’t happen. Kit’s parents are absolutely amazing, when his mom said “Eff the right thing. It’s a load of bologna most of the time anyway.” I DIED. I loved the easter eggs throughout from her other books. Just so so so so good.
Hannah’s ability to portray such profound emotions through her writing is so beautiful. I always find myself not wanting to leave her little worlds because they always seem to offer something incredibly relatable that makes me feel seen and heard in ways I sometimes may not. I truly cannot recommend her books enough and I have zero plans of stopping.
🐚☀️Look no further, I found your first summer read of the year! ☀️🐚
🩵I adore Hannah Bird’s writing! I’m still working through all of her previous books, but she has the ability to captivate her readers from the very first page in every book I’ve read so far! Her books are full of depth and emotion mixed in with beautiful love stories and this one was no different!
🩵I loved Tess and Kit’s story! The way he loved her was relentless and all that she deserved and more.
🩵This is a story of not only finding love, but also learning to allow yourself to be loved. A journey of rediscovering life after extreme loss. It was full of hope, raw, and relatable.
Read this one if you love: 🩵Found family 🩵Emotional depth 🩵Grief journey 🩵Self growth 🩵Dual POV 🩵Forced proximity 🩵He falls first 🩵A setting that beach read dreams are made of
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thank you so much to Hannah and her team for the arc of this beautiful story 🩷
First and foremost can I just say I love Hannah’s writing? It’s just so beautiful and descriptive writing. It just pulls you in to the story no matter which book she writes. Every word is written with care and placed perfectly to just write captivating love stories.
In Every Heartbeat After, a year after Tess and Kit happen chance meet over a weekend and she jokingly invites Kit on her annual two week beachside vacation, Kit shows up unannounced to crash her trip, running on the feeling that he couldn’t get her out of his head since he met her a year prior.
I love how Kit chased her through this book and did not want to give up on her. Tess was dealing with loss and navigating grief and life and the last thing she expected - nor wanted- was for Kit to be there, as seen through many attempts to push him away. He was perfect and just knew what she needed.
This book was just so tender and many beautiful moments. With emotional and heavy topics you can expect to find in a Hannah Bird novel wrapped in a sweeping romance.
Thank you Hannah for the opportunity to read and eARC!
Every Heartbeat After follows Kit and Tess on their journey of healing and love. If you’ve read Hannah’s Loveless series, then you remember Kit. He was cocky and arrogant and I was not sure I was going to like him with his own book. BUT….. Hannah did it. She made me love Kit. She made me SWOON over Kit.
The way he loved Tess, and the way he pursued her and fought for her heart was SO good. SO good.
So good that I literally had to text Hannah telling her I was crying and I now loved him.
In the way that only Hannah can make me- I cried like a baby. This book is so full of depth and love, while also holding space for banter that is top tier.
My tear ducts didn't stand a chance. I adored this book so much. Kit and Tess's story was every bit as beautiful as I expected it to be.
Read if you love: ☀️ Forced Proximity ☀️ Right Person/Wrong Time ☀️ He falls first and HARD ☀️ Grief Journey ☀️ Vacation/Beach Romance ☀️ Found Family …and more.
Seriously. Hannah's books always have some of the most beautiful prose I've ever read.
My heart. All the feels. This story takes you on a whirlwind summer romance in the best setting on the Gulf Coast of Florida’s Beach! It’s a journey of grief and healing, finding yourself and falling in love. Kit and Tess have a brief encounter when she goes to visit her uncle in Colorado. Tess has lost her parents and has been trying to keep a constant routine to keep their memories alive. Every summer her parents would take her to a Gulf Coast resort called The Carmen. Tess is trying to move on and has decided to spend one last summer at the Carmen.
Kit and Tess were two puzzle pieces that just completed one another. I loved how kind, caring and patient he was with her. This was such a beautiful story filled with hope, healing, love and beach memories.
“If you think seeing you broken , seeing you honest is going to run me off, you’re sorely mistaken. I want you. ALL OF YOU.”
Tropes: -Found family -Summer vacation romance -He falls first and hard -Sheriff’s deputy MMC -Forced proximity
If you read any book on or after April 30th, please let it be this one. I’ve adored every single book that Hannah has written and they honestly just keep getting better. Kit and Tess’ story was such a breath of fresh air and this book gives all of the spring/summer romance vibes you could ever want.
Thank you @hannahbirdauthor, as always, for spoiling me with this ARC to rave and obsess over.
It’s the best one. This is the top of the five star reads that all of Hannah’s books have been for me. Beyond five. Five ++++++.
Kit and Tess. No notes. Gary. No notes. Loveless return. No notes. Found resort family. No notes.
No notes. Just perfection. Just an imperfect man (though he’s DAMN close to being perfect) loving an imperfect woman, teaching her how to love her cracks and her flaws. He is patient and kind and selfless and MY GOD is he knocking Jonah (Simple Wild) off my OG book boyfriend platform?? HANNAH BIRD, HE JUST MIGHT BE.
This story has everything a hug to your chest, share with your friends, laugh out loud, cry out loud, smile till it hurts, romance book should have. And I will forever obnoxiously recommend it to people forever and ever and ever.
This was the perfect read for the beach! I loved the banter between Kit and Tess. While their relationship was fun, it was also a lifeline for each other. I loved the vulnerability they shared with each other. I think my favorite part was seeing each character overcome their grief and trauma. Tess is dealing with the loss of her parents and trying to find her way in life. Kit is divorced and feels as if he is a disappointment to his family in more ways than one. While each character works through their issues on their own, I love how their relationship with each other helps them heal. I also love the found family in this one. That is quickly becoming one of my favorite tropes! If you’re looking for a force proximity, vacation romance with emotional depth and healing, definitely recommend checking this one out!
Another masterpiece by Hannah Bird!!! Forever a privilege to beta read for her. Kit’s love story was so beautiful and I really connected with him and Tess. Bravo Hannah!
Every Heartbeat Ever After by Hannah Bird is a breathtaking story about grief, healing, and the relentless pull of love even when you’re convinced you’re too broken to deserve it.
Tess Monroe has spent years running from her grief, trying to hold on to the memory of her parents the only way she knows how: by returning to The Carmen, the beach resort where they made their happiest memories. But what once was comforting has become a trap, locking her inside her sadness. This was supposed to be her last trip—her final goodbye to a past she can’t seem to let go of. She’s not looking for anything, definitely not love. And then Kit Llewellyn shows up.
Kit is a small-town deputy with his own silent battles, but there’s one thing he’s sure about: Tess. After one unforgettable weekend together almost a year ago, she’s been living rent-free in his mind and heart. So when he gets a chance to find her again, he takes it—showing up at the Carmen with nothing more than hope and a stubborn belief that some people are just meant for each other.
What follows is a slow, tender, and gut-wrenchingly beautiful love story. Tess fights it every step of the way, terrified to let go of her grief, afraid of betraying her parents’ memory by moving forward. Kit never pushes too hard. He shows up, again and again, patient and steady, waiting for her to realize she doesn’t have to do it alone. He lets her set the pace, standing beside her in a way that feels so real it hurts.
The emotional depth Hannah Bird brings to this story is incredible. She doesn’t shy away from the messy parts—the anger, the guilt, the fear that comes with losing the people who made you who you are. She captures it all with writing that’s both tender and razor-sharp. Some scenes broke me open (Kit talking to Tess’s parents’ photo?? Sobbing.), but the healing that follows is so worth it.
The romance feels earned because it isn’t easy. It’s two wounded people learning to believe in life, in love, and in themselves again. Kit and Tess aren’t perfect, but they’re perfect for each other, and that’s what makes their story so powerful.
The banter is funny and real (I laughed out loud more than once), the emotional moments hit like a punch to the chest, and the ending… God, the ending is everything I could have hoped for. Hannah’s ability to weave heartbreak with hope is unmatched.
Every Heartbeat Ever After isn’t just a romance; it’s a survival story. It’s about finding the courage to keep living, keep loving, and keep hoping, even when you think your heart can’t take any more. It’s a reminder that healing isn’t forgetting — it’s remembering and loving anyway.
This book gutted me in the best way and stitched me back together. I’ll be thinking about Kit and Tess for a long, long time.
Well Hannah Bird does it again…. Hypes me up, makes me fall in love, breaks my heart and puts all the pieces back together again that is…. And she does it SO brilliantly. I don’t know what it is about her writing that just sucks me right in…. I do know that when she writes feelings… I FEEL them HARD, when she writes about smells I swear I can actually smell them - hello sunscreen & beaches!! Not just that but the way she describes the scenery… I’ve said this in a review of one of her previous books - she does such a phenomenal job describing places I have literally never been or even heard of ….. that…. I feel like I actually have? 🤷🏻♀️
Every heartbeat After takes us back to Loveless…. IYKYK…. And if you don’t what are you even doing? We get to know Tess & Kit. We get a story about love, but it’s not only about love… we also get a beautiful story about grief. The way that HB writes about complex things always blows my mind - it’s always written about in such a tactful, caring, relatable, realistic and always respectful way. This story about grief shares different perspectives and complexities surrounding grief and how different people go through it. How we can take control of all the feelings and emotions that come with it to see light at the end of the tunnel, light through the dark if you will.
Honestly, I’m still processing this beautiful story… but I will say this. I love Gary…. But I also love Mo…. Two wise, funny old guys that forever have my heart.
If you are looking for found family, a love story with a little 🌶️, a journey through grief, some comedy, & the MOST perfect book boyfriend then you are going to want to read this immediately. This will the book you suggest to read for your next book club, the book you anxiously await your bestie to finish so you can chat about it & the book that I’m sure be on your top reads of 2025 like it is for me.
Tess Monroe puts on a happy face, but she’s still not over the loss of parents by living in wanderlust and as a free spirit. Love means loss yet she yearns for a family. Kit Llewelyn knows a thing or two about keeping up a facade. He’s been pretending for years and avoiding his own family.
Hannah Bird brings the readers back to Loveless, Colorado, where Kit lives and works. It’s immediately obvious that both Tess and Kit are like kindred spirits with a lot of chemistry. Tess is visiting her uncle and as per usual, Tess is not sticking around. A first impression goes a long way and Tess and Kit are not forgetting the other any time soon, to where Kit crashes Tess’ vacation several months later. Pretty ballsy move on Kit’s part, but he did it without seeming like a creepy stalker.
Both of them have personal baggage to work through and as much as they try to avoid sharing those deeper and more vulnerable parts of themselves, it happens anyway. I have to applaud Kit for pushing while also giving Tess her space patiently while she worked through how close she wanted to get to know him and to take that leap of faith. There’s no substitute for family, but Tess has a pretty amazing support network. As for Kit avoiding his family, there’s also no substitute for unconditional love.
Hannah Bird doesn’t shy away from emotional issues that pull on the reader’s heartstrings and this one explores the found family dynamics along with the family who has been there all along. Both Tess and Kit had their own journey through with their personal feelings that they tried to cover up for the sake of surviving, but needed to share and release to properly move on, and in this case, with each other.
I was thrilled to be chosen for this giveaway from Goodreads! I was even more thrilled when the book came signed by the author with an illustrated card and wrapped in nautical tissue paper!! So thoughtful, thank you Hannah Bird.
3.5 stars 🌟 This is a lovely story of love and grief and growth. Tess is living aimlessly after losing her parents in a car accident and her grandparents years later. She always pastes on a smile and survives by holding in her grief while trying to keep her parents' memory alive. Through an ancestry search, she connects with an uncle she never knew about. Desperate for family connection, Tess flies to Colorado to meet him. Meanwhile, Kit, a sheriff's deputy in the same CO town, is flirting his way through women and trying to forget about his divorce. Kit is doing everything he can to forget about his cheating ex wife, his drug- addicted brother, and the way he's let his parents down. When Tess's Uncle Gary asks Kit to pick her up from the airport, sparks fly, but not in the usual fleeting way. Kit and Tess briefly get to know each other while she's in town, but he can't stop thinking about her when she leaves. Fast forward almost a year, and Tess is taking her annual vacation trip to the resort she grew up going to with her parents. She's trying to find a way to say goodbye when Kit shows up unannounced. The two can't help but be drawn to each other as they each grapple with the mess of their lives and their desire to protect one another from heartbreak.
This isn't just a love story, it's a story of incredible grief and pain and learning to live without those you love the most. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, characters and setting of this book.
There was too much spice and language for my personal preference, which is why I rated it 3.5 stars.
This one had me VERY Emotional. Some tough subjects, but very well written - So beautiful and descriptive. This is a summer vacation romance and it was my first read of Hannah’s…now I want to read all of her books!! 😍
Tess Monroe is the FMC. Trying relentlessly to get through the heavy sadness from her parents’ deaths. She doesn’t want to let the memory of them go and the only way she knows how to hold on to that memory is visiting the vacation spot her & her parents went to every year since she was a child. The Resort, the Carmen, holds a lot of memories for Tess.
Kit Llewelyn is the MMC. He’s a sheriff’s deputy in a small town. He is so patient and Kind. However, he’s dealing with his own trauma and lives his life just getting by one day at a time. His longing & his regrets - whoa what an emotional rollercoaster. When Tess comes along, he feels like he can live life fully and actually breathe again. I loved how something so simple between them, a hug, held so much weight. 🥹
The banter. The bad pick up lines that made them good ones. The shower scene. Goshhh I loved these 2 so much!
‼️Grief…..this book is a lot about how we all deal with grief so differently. Some allow it to take control and feel like they can’t move on from the feelings and emotions. This story shares about finding yourself after death; living your life. To love and to be loved. Goshhhh this book was heart wrenching at times, but I was so freaking mesmerized. Got me in my feels good. Hannah, your ability to portray such profound emotions through writing is just phenomenal.👏
If you enjoy the below tropes, I’d highly recommend.
🐚 Found Family 🐚 Forced Proximity 🐚 Summer Vacation Romance 🐚 He Falls First & Hard 🐚 Spicy Outdoor Showers 🐚 Right Person/Wrong Time

I was so fortunate to read an ARC of this amazing book and y’all, you’re in for a good one
I’ve been in such a reading slump lately, and as soon as I started reading this ARC, I felt like I came home. After working on recording THE END AND THEN for almost a year, it truly felt like I was coming home to Loveless and it almost made me emotional!! Hannah’s voice is so distinct and comforting and getting to see both of these characters (mentioned in other novels) live out their own love story was so so special to me. You don’t have to have read WHAT’S LEFT OF ME or THE COST OF FORGETTING YOU to enjoy this book, but it definitely makes the experience all the more sweet.
To over-simplify a summary: Tess Monroe and Kit meet when Tess visits Loveless, CO to meet with her uncle whom she didn’t know existed, and is picked up from the airport by the deputy in town, Kit Llewelyn. Their attraction is undeniable and frankly confusing to both of them, and it becomes even more undeniable and even more confusing when they see each other months later at Tess’s favorite resort in Florida over the summer.
Things to Expect: - found family - healing from past trauma - “but it’s different with her” - sandy toes and salty kisses (A KISS IN AN AQUARIUM) - rollercoaster of emotions in a new relationship - the sweetest epilogue I’ve probably ever read
there are some TW that you should be aware of as well, including parental death, car accidents, and addiction.
if you love Hannah’s writing, or even if you’re new to her books, you will love this sugar and sunshine-flavored read!! ☀️
