Grace: And Other Poems

Rate this book
In this collection, Grace, poetry is a bridge between the temporal and the eternal, weaving together themes of faith, longing, and spiritual reflection. Each verse is a step along the way—through grace, through trial, through hope—moving the reader toward deeper understanding of God and a more complete life in Christ. In plain honesty and profound spiritual insight, this book invites you to pause, reflect, and sense the majesty of God's presence at every moment. Perfect for anyone seeking inspiration, encouragement, and a renewed sense of faith.

Biblical Foundation
The message of Grace is firmly rooted in Scripture, reflecting the redemptive love and mercy of God. Each poem affirms the biblical truth that grace is not earned but freely given through Christ. As Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." This collection shines a light on that divine gift, inviting readers to rest in the assurance of God's unending grace.

Key Biblical Themes
Inspired by the timeless truths of Scripture, Grace explores core biblical themes such as redemption, faith, and God's unwavering love. Through poetic expression, this collection delves into the free gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9), the power found in surrender (2 Corinthians 12:9), and the enduring hope that strengthens us through life's challenges (Isaiah 40:31). Each poem is a reflection on God's presence, encouraging readers to deepen their faith, receive His grace, and find comfort in His eternal promises (Romans 8:38-39).

Grace & Other Poems is a 5-part poetry collection by Stephen Landis. It opens with the first poem titled “Grace” as an introduction, embodying the heart of his collection. Even by the introduction itself, I already felt a calming sense and acceptance. It instantly set my mood before I even began to read the poems. I had a feeling this book was going to be something that I'd appreciate for having been given the opportunity to read it. And after reading all of it, I was right. The first poem, “Grace,” shows our Creator's unconditional love for us which we should pass onto one another to mirror God's love, so that other people may uncover His grace as well. My favorite is "Take Heart" because it resonates with me the most and it made me cry. This entire book just feels so comforting to read and it’s very timely considering my current situation. The author did a great job in dividing this poetry collection into 5 parts and the first part, Grace & Faith which contains nine poems that focus on the foundational aspects of faith and life sustainance through God’s grace, is my favorite part because every poem pretty much reflects my inner thoughts. I also like the closing piece. The author did great in making sure whoever reads his collection ends it with a smile instead of a heavy heart. Overall, I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars for evoking emotions, self acceptance, faith, and complete gratitude towards our Creator and the life he gave us. This book is a MUST-READ.

The 7th poem, "Between Fear and Faith" which is about a sinner who feels a great sense of guilt and unworthiness and he feels as if His Grace is for all who call upon Him, but he doesn't feel like he is deserving of this. This, I think, will touch lot of people because none of us is perfect and we all sin. The poem, however, shows how merciful our Creator is. That we are all worthy of His love. Loved all of the poems but this one for me is the best plus the fact that it's the seventh poem and for some reason, there is always something that pulls me into anything that has to do with the number seven. I also love the last part of the book with those Haikus. Overall, this is definitely 5 out of 5 stars.

This book will definitely resonate with those who love poetry, especially Christian readers. It is about so many things that is tied up to our Creator and the wonderful things that people who believe in Him, whether sinner or not, can receive through His unconditional love. My favorite is "This Beating Heart." It's the heart that makes us all alive, but it is not ours to keep. That and also the 13th poem, "War" is probably the timeliest poem in this book as it depicts what's really happening in our world today. I wish the author great success on this book. It’s a must-have. Moreover, there are poems in here that are based on certain verses from the Bible, so it really is something meant for Christian readers.

I like all of the poems in here because they are all so uplifting, especially "The Shepherd." Because for me, there is nothing as reassuring as when there is someone that comforts and protects you when you're weak and when you're cold and in need of love and protection. I'm not in a good place right now and since the start of this year, everything's been really hard for me, but this poem just makes me feel comforted in knowing that somehow, though I can't physically see it, someone is always there to comfort and protect me no matter what. I’ll give 5 stars and two thumbs up for this poetry collection.
