I read this book to understand homeopathy, once I was introduced to this form of medicine by a doctor in France, when I had repeated stress-related eczema and allergies. The traditional allopathic medicine treat those with Cortisones, which destroy our immunity and metabolism over the long-term. On the contrary, the homeopathic medicine this doctor gave me worked wonderfully, and left me with absolutely no side effects.
The beginning of the treatment was fearsome though, as the medicine actually aggravated my symptoms. Scared, I called the doctor, and he explained that it was a normal course in homeopathy: the medicine aggravates the symptoms slightly at first, before healing it for ever. That's why the medicine is called 'homeo', it takes the organism in the direction of the disease, in order to activate the body's own healing mechanism. The fact that my symptoms aggravated slightly at first was the sign that the medicine was the right one for my condition.
That really intrigued me. So I started looking on internet, and discovered that the father of this medicine, Samuel Hahnemann, is actually buried in Paris. He had to leave Germany because his ideas were so contrary to the allopathic medicine.
When I read his book, all made so much sense to me. Particularly, his point that excess in everything (food, alcohol, sex, sleep, work…) is at the root of all chronic diseases.
Complete ground-up revolutions of our entire conception of disease and medicine don't come along everyday -- and this version, based on the translation by Steven Decker, leaves the fundamental genius of Hahnemann's original thought forms intact, which all other translations have butchered to varying degrees. This is the basis for the new world of medicine which all disciplines need to share in, if we are going to develop a truly "integrated" system of medicine, across both preventive and curative modalities of healthcare. The entries in the glossary written by Decker (marked "SRD"), are an invaluable education in themselves, which are worthy of their own special study.
This book is Samuel Hahnemann's last word on the Theory and Philosphy and Practice of Homeopathy, and of Health and Disease, expressed in 291 aphorisms somewhat in the style of Francis Bacon's Novum Organum and Aristotle's Oraganon. This is the final sixth edition revised after his death in 1843. It is based purely on his observations and experience of Homeopathic medicines and their effects on himself, his colleagues and his patients. In truth it should in my view be the starting point for the modern study of Immunology.
This is one of the most brilliant books on medicine ever written. Unfortunately reading it as an individual, it is almost impossible to understand its dept. You have to see it as a sort of zip file on medicine passed on to us from the past. To translate it into workable knowledge and skills (!) you need instruction from a lot of teachers in the present who know what they are talking about. In my case I attended a 2 year course for homeopathic doctors, with a lot of very skilled teachers, who used a lot of video footage of real consultation with patients. After that you need to get experience in treatment yourself and keeping in touch with a very large community of practitioners.
The most complete definition of health and cure I've ever seen. The great phisician Samuel Hahnemann in his 88 years of liife postulated ,practiced and developed this method , that made such a difference in our lives. Written in paragraphs , a style of century XVIii the book explains step by step this special paradigma -Homeopathy.
Helped in understanding of "invisible vital force" that governs the body, the "invisible power of disease," "artificial invisible power," and how "natural power" can be countered with the "artificial power."
Thanks to this book and some good old lobbying by homeopathic and anthrophosophic drug corporations (yes, big pharma includes globuli, because those profit margins for selling sugar are ridiculous), health insurances in Germany are happy to pay for all kinds of ineffective bogus "medicines". Most pharmacists are even okay with selling very overpriced placebo pills to their patients without telling them there is no evidence or even mechanism for them to have any effect whatsoever. Thanks for nothing, Mr. Hahnemann.
I am absolutely fascinated by homeopathy so, of course, "The Organon" is required reading. Although I enjoyed finding out more about the subject from Hahnemann himself it is pretty hard going so you do need to concentrate. Definitely not to be recommended for bedside reading!
This book is a must-read for homeopaths and homeopathy students. Hahnemann's remarkable understanding of the vital force and field effects is amazing, especially considering the era in which he lived. His insights are still relevant and important today.
very comprehensive.this book resolves many amibiguities in homeopathic treatments. The introduction, notes, and glossary, make it easy for anyone on any level to understand.
