I just finished Icebound and honestly, I really enjoyed it. The writing pulled me in right away. It was smooth and easy to follow without ever feeling “dumbed down,” which is perfect for YA. The story has this fairytale vibe since it’s a “Snow Queen” reimagining, but it doesn’t feel like a copy-and-paste retelling.
The main character, Destan, is a prince who just wants more out of life, and when he stumbles across this mysterious chest and key, everything changes. I liked how the book balanced adventure, danger, and emotion without slowing down. The pacing flowed really well, and I never felt bored.
What stood out to me most was how the world of Rosenstaat felt both magical and a little eerie at times. it’s enchanting but also dangerous, and that mix kept me turning the pages. Plus, Destan’s struggles with fear and finding his strength felt super relatable, even though he’s a prince.
If you’re into YA fantasy with a fairytale twist, good writing, and a story that keeps you hooked, Icebound is worth picking up. I’m definitely curious to see where the series goes next!
