Ever since he was a young boy dreaming of writing "God Is Love" on the moon so that all the world's people could see it, Loren Cunningham has committed his life to reaching the whole world with the Good News of Jesus Christ, ministering in every nation on earth.
Through his unswerving belief that nothing is impossible for God, Loren's vision of waves of young people became the reality of Youth With A Mission, unleashing young Christians in missionary service when that was unheard of. Today, through the mission he began, multiplied thousands of believers -- young and old -- are working together to bring the gospel to the whole earth (1935- ).
Janet and Geoff Benge are a husband and wife writing team with twenty years of writing experience. They are best known for the books in the two series Christian Heroes: Then & Now series and Heroes of History. Janet is a former elementary school teacher. Geoff holds a degree in history. Together they have a passion to make history come alive for a new generation. Originally from New Zealand, the Benges make their home in the Orlando, Florida, area.
Loren Cunningham, after experiencing a vision, developed a new missionary program called Youth With A Mission (YWAN) in the 1960s. He was the first to take groups of youths with him into the world to spread the Christian story. Not an exciting story, but a story worth telling. Cunningham was a very bright young man aged 24 when he started this, and he turned down lucrative job offers to fulfill this calling.
Hadde lese omtrent alt som står i denne boka før. Mykje av det samme som står i Loren Cunningham si eiga bok "Er det virkelig deg, Gud?", berre at det her var litt forkorta.
I truly enjoyed this book. Loren's mom was my favorite character - what a powerful woman of God! And Loren's story of developing YWAM into what it is today and taking the Great Commission to heart is inspiring. My only complaint is this: I know this book is written for a younger audience, and the authors want to make it a positive story, but there had to be bad things that happened along the way. Even when a negative experience was mentioned, it felt like it was rushed through to get back to all the good and wonderful things. It would just be a more well-rounded story if we saw the bad along with the good.
I really enjoyed and appreciated hearing about how YWAM started. There are a lot of amazing, rather miraculous stories in the book. What a vision, Loren C. had. He just kept going until his 90s, more visions, more base camps. And to think these books that I LOVE are from YWAM publishing.
Loren C. was a man of faith and prayer. The book could be a case study of walking by faith, financially generosity. He came from a solid Christian family. Just very encouraging to see there were/are maybe families like this!
Coming from a theological background that does not believe tongues and prophecy still happen today, this definitely shifted my opinion on that because Cunningham experienced prophecy, at least, and revelation through dreams countless times in the Biblical way of the early church. The story left a deep impression and was touching as well as an encouragement towards a deeper faith in Christ that acts more boldly on the beliefs I hold as a Christian.
Written for a teen audience yet insightful for every age.
I am challenged to do more as I read about the life of LC and the history of YWAM. Wish I had known about this in my teen years. I was ready to sign up and go serve by the time I finished the book.
I am determined to read every single book in this series, and so far, this one is one of my top favs!! Great for anyone 10 and up who either wants to read about amazing adventures, or someone interested in YWAM or missions work in general. If you're not sure, get the sample. I did, and it got me hooked!! :) Wonderful book!!
For the first 3/4 of the book I wondered if I was reading Is That Really You, God? But it was still a good read and if I ever meet Mr. Cunningham I'll surely know lots of his story!
We really liked this one. This is about the founder of YWAM ministries, and it was very inspirational. My son is now looking into possibly joining the YWAM team.
