My Thoughts on Falling (Vol. 1)
4.6/5

Ye Qin was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and grew up spoiled due to his poor health. His mother is constantly worried about him, while his father thinks very little of him. He runs with a group of friends who are always getting into mischief, and he couldn't care less about school.

Honestly, I find Ye Qin such a frustrating character! He has a quick temper, he's petty and insecure, and he definitely has that "fire to ice" personality.

On the other hand, my heart goes out to Cheng Feichi. He’s lived a difficult life, working part-time jobs while remaining the top student in his school. Because of a rumor, he had to take a gap year and is now attending a high school with lower academic standards. He works so hard to take care of his mother, who is very weak.

I am absolutely terrified for what’s coming in the future volumes. These two are so cute together, and I’m excited to see their feelings grow, but I’m also scared! Cheng Feichi is going to feel such an absolute betrayal. Bring on the redemption arc! I'm also curious about the bottom chasing the top🤭. Very rare reads
Happy Reading🥰

SPOILERS IN MY COMMENTS FOR FUTURE VOLUMES = AUTOMATIC BLOCK

⚠️ Spoiler Warning: Why I’m Scared

Ye Qin originally wanted to break Cheng Feichi’s heart because of the messy connection between their parents (Ye Qin’s father's mistress is actually Cheng Feichi’s mother). However, I can see Ye Qin’s feelings starting to become real. He even seems scared in his dreams that Cheng Feichi will find out this started as a "fake relationship."

I have a feeling I know exactly what’s going to happen: Cheng Feichi is going to find out, and it’s going to destroy him. He’ll feel so betrayed and humiliated. He has opened his heart to Ye Qin and given him 1000%! So far, he has done everything for him. By the time Ye Qin finally understands his own feelings, it’s going to be too late.

Ye Qin is definitely the "love to hate" kind of character in Volume 1. He’s so wrapped up in his own privilege and petty vendettas that he doesn't realize he’s playing with fire—and poor Cheng Feichi is the one who’s going to get burned.

I can’t wait to see the redemption arc, but I have no idea how they’ll ever end up together. That pain is not going to be fun to read, but I'm strapped in anyway! Happy reading!

"The world was filled with irrational malice. His only true savior was himself; always and only himself."

description

I went into this knowing it was going to be a tense romance, but I didn’t expect it to feel this slow and calm at the same time. The story is very straightforward and yet, it doesn’t rush anything. It also spends a lot of time sitting in awkward moments, hurt feelings, and misunderstandings. There’s a lot of secondhand embarrassment, especially with the school humiliation and the way pride and jealousy keep getting in the way. I could feel how personal it all was, how much shame and resentment shaped their choices. At times it was exhausting to watch them miss each other emotionally again and again. I wasn’t deeply invested, but I was curious enough to keep going.

Ye Qin honestly stressed me out. He’s volatile and so emotionally transparent that it almost hurts to read. His insecurity drives so much of what he does, from petty hostility to these big dramatic confessions that feel more desperate than romantic. I felt for him because his vulnerability is real, but his jealousy and immaturity made me frustrated more than once. Cheng Feichi is the complete opposite in personality. He’s disciplined, guarded, and shaped by responsibility. He shows care through actions and boundaries, which I appreciated, but that emotional distance made things feel cold at times. Their dynamic has tension and intimacy, and I could feel the pull between them, but the constant cycle of miscommunication and poorly timed confessions started to feel repetitive.

What stayed with me most was the slow breakdown of their defenses. The story lingers on guilt, longing, and those small, fragile moments where they almost get it right. It feels messy and uncomfortable on purpose. I can see why some readers would struggle with the imbalance early on and the prolonged frustration. I didn’t love it, and I wasn’t completely hooked, but I’m still curious about what happens next. The volumes are short, and since I’m saving some of my other favorites for last, I’ll probably read the next one soon just to see where this complicated relationship goes.

Update: I don’t even want to continue Vol. 2 and 3. And FYI, Vol. 4 is all extra chapters, so the main story ends with Vol. 3. I peeked at the manhua and spoiled the rest for myself YQ becomes an idol, while CFC becomes a businessman. And of course, CFC isn’t YQ’s brother; it was all just a misunderstanding. They separate, YQ regrets his actions, and naturally, they get their happy ending.

I’m done torturing myself life’s too short and my TBR is too long. I’m dropping this series; just having it on my shelf feels like an eyesore.

As always, don’t let my “opinion” shape yours this is just how I feel.

———-

One thing about me is that I love a good first love book it often means school days, awkwardness, and innocence. This entire book is set during the main characters' school years. YQ approaches CFC to make him fall in love, intending to dump him later as a form of "revenge." But it’s way more innocent than it sounds because, again, he’s a proud, naive 17 year old teenager.

What bothers me the MOST is the fact that YQ thinks CFC is his stepbrother (he believes CFC is his dad’s son from a mistress), and he still proceeds to fall in love with him during the whole plan to make CFC fall for him. I don’t know yet if they are actually brothers and I don’t think they are but YQ thinks they are!!!

I’m frustrated about some other things, but the story isn’t over yet. So far, everything I’ve read is from 17 year old YQ and CFC’s perspective, so I can’t judge them by adult standards. It's a solid 4 star read for me and that’s being generous, because again, the story isn’t over yet.

Really addictive series. Stayed up until late hours into the night, on work nights, just because I could not put this series down. The emotional pacing is relentless.

It is not a perfect story. There are some tropes in here I greatly dislike, the translation is so-so, and the author has a bad habit of cutting some scenes right after they drop a bomb... and then it is the next day. But wait a minute, I want to know how that conversation ended! It could be a side effect of the translation. I will probably never know, considering this seems to be an obscure series that no one on Goodreads has read or plans to read.

It took me a bit of time to get into the story. Ye Qin is both sensitive and immature, and often I wanted to shake him to get his stuff together.

I’m interested to see how the story continues.
