Braxton and Devon witnessed the worst of humanity during their escape from the Las Vegas Strip. Reuniting mother and daughter fulfilled Braxton’s promise to Devon, but leaving them to survive on their own weighs heavily on his sense of duty. Now thrust into a leadership role within the apartment complex, Braxton must grapple with conflicting impulses—protect the people around him or focus on saving himself—as the struggle for survival intensifies in a powerless world where neighbor turns against neighbor, and the community faces off against the ruthless cult known as the Children of God.
Protecting Devon and Lucy remains Braxton’s top priority. But what happens if he can’t save everyone? Will the community come together and find a way to survive as one—or will it become every man for himself?
A stellar follow up, the Solar Flare series gets better!
Solar Flare Complex, the excellent follow up, continues the story of Braxton, Devon et al after the rush to get back to Devon's apartment. Internecine fighting amongst the residents, along with the presence of a cult of religious lunatics severely complicate attempts to unify the residents of the complex. Police running forced labor camps further complicate everything. The writing is just as well composed as book 1, with vivid fight scenes, well described destruction and beautifully composed characters. The overall plot isn't hard to believe given human nature, making the events all the more believable. This book will be hard to top, but I have the highest hopes for book 3. 5/5 stars, highly recommended for fans of apocalyptic thrillers!
This installment to the story is even more scary than the first. As people begin to understand the seriousness of the situation they begin forming tribes. Each one a dancer I
Characters are interesting. Different ideas on survival. Quick read, but the end of the story was predictable. Once the ambush happened. You knew who set it up.
