My rating was solely for Oaken, him and him all alone. I knew I was going to love his character just based on my impressions from his cousin's book, and this story definitely proved that I was right. 🥰

That being said, while I do enjoy and love Oaken, I ended up not liking Jaya. I just don't really care about her at all. She didn't appeal to me, and I didn't find her character likable. But it's probably because I felt that Oaken was far too good for her, and she hasn't proven herself worthy of that man. 🤷‍♀️

Then again, I may be biased, but it's really impossible not to love these alien cowboys. I swear these men are some of the sweetest heroes I've ever read about. The way they worship their women was just so freaking swoonworthy. 😍 These ladies were lucky to have them. (Though, imo, not all of them deserve these guys. But there's nothing I can do about it, so…)

Anywaaay, love Oaken and can't wait to read Zohro's book. 🤭

What a treat this series is. Seriously, if you're an alien romance lover or a romance lover looking for your first alien romp, this is a series worth checking out - and I think you'll be convinced you made a great choice.

Also, I just have to emphasize just how much I love these covers. They fit the vibe of this series PERFECTLY, and when I learned that the author, Ursa Dax, draws and designs them herself, it just made me love it all the more. Why do I anticipate the cover color reveals so bad??? I love it. (Teal is next y'all.)

Married to the Alien Mountain Man is Book 5 in the Cowboy Colony Mail-Order Brides series, and this go-around we finally have the long-suffering Oaken's story, who is paired with Jaya, a stranded human woman with her ship/ship bot. While there is hesitancy on Jaya's part after crash-landing on this new alien planet, especially after she learns it's a penal colony, but for Oaken it's love at first sight. He knows in his bones that this is his wife, even if it will only be for a couple weeks.

To keep Jaya long enough on the planet for her ship repairs, both Oaken and Jaya agree to a temporary marriage, one with an expiration date. While Oaken holds onto a flickering hope that Jaya will love him back and fully agree to be his wife, Jaya on the other hand is obliviously making plans to turn Oaken into the perfect husband for another human woman (helloooooo husband lessons). But Oaken's tendency to turn his charm onto Jaya, and her growing feelings for the tender-hearted alien, has her questioning whether she wants her ship to really be fixed at all. Maybe after all her loss, all her lonely travels, she's finally found home.

Oaken and Jaya were a great pairing. I thought Jaya had just enough expected hesitancy in the beginning, she's crash-landed on a penal alien colony after all, but her romantic feelings progressed at a good pace for the length of the book itself, slightly on the quicker side but filled with heart, humor, and heat.

I'm so so soooo looking forward to the next book in the series. Like I've said in reviews for the previous books in the series, these have definitely become comfort reads for me. When I want an alien romance without super dark themes and with an extra fun dose of humor, this is what I reach for.

Oaken is Fallon 2.0 with all the jolly green giant energy complete with smiling after having a hammer thrown at him. Jaya was independent in the way that people are forced to be independent when they’re traumatized. She was a kind person generally and luckily it wasn’t too hard for her to figure out that Oaken was the alien of her dreams.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: grief, mentions of murder, child abuse (historical), vehicular crash, tornado, child penal colony

3.5 🌟

I don’t know what Ursa Dax puts into these books but very single one is a literal masterpiece.

I almost never cry when I read books and I cried TWICE during this one because it was just so SWEET.

The MMC, Oaken, is so sugar. He was one of the original three alien cowboys who signed up for the bride program, but because of an injury and ensuing events, he wasn’t able to participate. He’s been so excited to get a wife and has done all the research and UGH he’s so sweet. The FMC, Jaya, crash lands near Oaken’s property and he volunteers to marry her so that she can stay on the planet while waiting for the parts she needs to repair her ship. It’s basically a fake-marriage trope even though Oaken is serious about it from the beginning.

This is very low-angst, has no third act breakup and no cheating or OWD/OMD so if you’re looking for a lighter read that’s still so good you should definitely pick this up. I will NEVER stop recommending these books!

Im so fucking obsessed with Oaken😭😭🫶🏻 He’s such a sweetheart!!! I bumped up my rating from 4.25 to 4.5, as if it makes a difference lmao, for him. He would do anything for Jaya and than she faced MY worst fear for him. That’s love if I’ve ever seen it because I would NOT have done the same lmfao my ass would’ve been gone the second Lala uttered “tor-“.

Loved how Warden Tenn shipped them from the second he saw Oaken and Jaya together. Then Lala was nudging Jaya towards him lmaooo

3.5 stars rounded up because I love Oaken and the series

Ursa Dax continues to make this series funny, heartwarming, and hot. These alien cowboys truly bring it with each book and I was so excited for Oaken (H) to fall in love. His personality is my favorite of the guys so far because he has literally pined for a wife, which is the sweetest. While I did find myself feeling like some components of their transition from a marriage of convenience-like situation to a true marriage needed something extra, I also knew going in that I was going to be a little prickly with the premise of Jaya (h) thinking she could walk away from Oaken at some point. Because, again, I adore him and thankfully she also quickly adored him too.

Written in first person, dual POV (with one short POV from a side character/prior main character). No ow/om drama, though the h gets jealous over her own thoughts and mentions of a hypothetical future wife for the H. The h had some experience of casual flings and the H was completely inexperienced.

Some tropes/themes:
☆ Alien MMC with human FMC
☆ FMC emergency lands on their planet so not an arranged bride
☆ Big ole softie MMC
☆ Traveler FMC who’s very adaptable
☆ Still with the mispronunciations and confusions between aliens and humans and I love it
☆ A touch of group chat and cock tail talk
☆ Some chaotic and precious scenes of Killian
☆ Adorable animal sidekick
☆ Endearing bot companion

Oh Oaken. When he gets a surprise of finding a human woman having landed somewhat near his farm, he’s taken with her right away and also protective. Jaya’s reaction is less starry-eyed, particularly after she learns that she’s on a penal colony planet…and that she either needs to abandon her ship or get married. Oaken being so willing to risk himself to help Jaya was so on par for him and I did love that she was flabbergasted by the risk he was taking once she learns more. Still, that mindset that she was going to leave was a buzzing frustration in the back of my mind, even knowing of course she wasn’t actually going to leave.

There are some intimate, vulnerability sharing talks between the two, with some commonalities that they bond over. This is cozy and sweet alien romance but it’s also got some hot scenes including a movie night and some exploration! I would have liked it if they were settled as a couple prior to hitting the sheets but chemistry is chemistry and they got carried away by it. Feelings had also begun percolating on Jaya’s end anyway and of course, Oaken was already all in. There are a couple of steamy scenes but that one was the best one imo.

We do see a couple of prior characters and get a touch of the group chat. Both felt under-incorporated though to me. Oaken is literally right next door to his cousin’s little family but there’s not a cousinly bonding chat over him helping Jaya or much education for Jaya about what to expect from Oaken other than a couple sentences and a drawing she thinks is a balloon animal lol. Sometimes the side characters are overwhelming and other times not used enough, it’s interesting trying to find the balance there.

Jaya figuring out that she does love Oaken and could never leave him, alongside his own loving declaration, were stellar moments. There’s no third act breakup or super angsty scene. There is some danger and some tears, but everyone’s safe and happy for the end, leading into a cute epilogue. I had questions about what Jaya was going to do on the planet, I tried not to overthink it though given her personal revelations. Even if a character or trope bugs me, I get so much joy out of reading this series.

Great books to read with your brain turned off. This is one of those "if you read one you read them all"... But I did read them all. So, that's that... Review to come with more details, or probably not because I forget about my Rtc very often! But the rec it's still here.

Super sweet!

Oaken definitely delivered everything i thought he would. A sweet naive gentle giant with a heart of gold. You could really feel his emotions even in chapters that weren't his POV. I definitely wish he had had a couple more because i loved being in his head. There was a scene in Jayas pov where theyre talking and it's clear to his reader what his meaning is but she is so oblivious and uh! It made me tear up a little.

I liked Jaya slightly less but thats cause she wasn't very nice to oaken at first. But she was a strong heroine and i love that no matter how much she tried to maintain the idea that she was leaving soon that she couldn't help but fall for oaken.

I also enjoyed their similarities in familial upbringings i really liked seeing them bond over this and have a really intimate conversation.

The movie night scene?? One of the hottest scenes ive probably ever read.

Warden tenn is such a meddlesome man! Playing matchmaker. We get a pov from tasha and it shows how much warden tenn loves his dopey boys. It's absolutely precious.

Honorable mention to killian and Lala.

I can't wait for Zohro's book since it seems the program is changing! So the dynamics are sure to be fresh an interesting for the next aliens and future brides.

””Do you have a favourite colour?”
I leaned over her. My eyes went from her hair, to her brows, to her eyes, to her lips, to her skin.
Affection for her clubbed me, left me reeling.
“Brown,” I whispered.”

This story is a cozy, heartfelt alien romance that blends sweetness, slow-burn passion, and just enough tension to keep the pages turning.

Oaken has been waiting patiently for his bride ever since his cousin fell in love with the woman originally meant for him. He wasn’t bitter—happy, even—but he’s carried a quiet ache ever since, hoping one day his turn will come. (he’s so selfless 😭)

Jaya, a human pilot, crash lands her ship on Zabria Prinar One. When Oaken discovers the wreckage, he doesn’t just find twisted metal, he finds one of the most beautiful women he’s ever seen. But staying on the planet comes with complications. The warden insists she must leave her ship behind and return home, and with no credits to pay for transport, her only chance to remain is through the bride program. (at first i was so irritated with Tenn but honestly he’s the one we can thank for pushing them together 😏)

That’s when Oaken offers a solution: a marriage of convenience. Jaya agrees, knowing she has 14 days before the ship part she needs will arrive. In that time, she must decide whether to keep her place by Oaken’s side or leave once her ship is repaired. Oaken knows the risk—that helping her might leave him lonelier than before—but he can’t resist stepping in. His selflessness and quiet hope make him such a swoon-worthy hero, because even knowing she might walk away, he just wants to give her a chance to stay.

What begins as a temporary arrangement soon grows into something far deeper. As the days pass, Jaya’s determination to leave fades beneath the steady warmth of Oaken’s care. Their connection deepens, their chemistry intensifies, and the line between pretend and real marriage begins to blur.

I loved how this story unfolded. Oaken’s protective, selfless nature completely melted me, and watching Jaya realize she’d found more than just a temporary solution was so satisfying. Their journey felt tender and genuine, and by the end I was completely wrapped up in their happily ever after.

“By the empire, but she was pretty. I had never been an artist, but in that moment, I wished that I could have somehow rendered her this way. Standing in the swaying grass, illuminated by summer sunshine. So that I could have her, if only in the sketched-out colour of a memory, for longer than two weeks.”

“… I glimpsed Jaya making her way towards me.
Funny. I'd been standing in the sun all morning.
But seeing her now, it was as if the sun had only just come out.”

Oaken would get infinity stars but I really disliked Jaya so I have to give this 3⭐️

Oaken is the sweetest, kindest, swooniest, loveliest alien book boyfriend and he deserved an fmc who was as obsessed with marrying him as he was at marrying her.

I volunteer as tribute.

Anyway looking forward to the next one as usual.

This book was so so wholesome!
🤠 Oaken has had such a difficult life to date and he still manages to be a complete sweetheart with a heart of gold
🤠 I love that there is a little community being built on the planet now
🤠 I need to get invited into the group chat stat
🤠 Warden Tenn may have to wrangle a bunch of boneheads but Tasha has to wrangle them AND her bonehead husband

Hilarious, wholesome and lighthearted. This series continues to be one of my faves of all time and I’m so grateful to have received this.

I received a gifted copy of this as an ARC but all thoughts are my own.

Hmm hmm hmm

I am fairly conflicted on this one. I enjoyed the vibes (I always do in this series lol), characters, and plot points. But the pacing just felt off to me.

The first 50ish% of the book covered about 36 hours of time in the story. This was wild to me - especially since after this there were several days of time jumps. The whole story took place over about 12 days, which is also WILD to me. You’re telling me that you met and fell in love with each other in that time??? I call bullshit 🙋‍♀️ Maybe if you spent every waking moment with someone you could develope some kind of feelings, but they only spent evenings together (if that). I also felt like the book was WAY shorter than the others. I’m not sure if it actually was, but it just seemed like I got through it so quickly (and not in the best way…).

Oaken is a cutie sweetie pie and I adore him. I wish we got more time with him because he is JUST SUCH A SQUISH.

Jaya was fine, I wasn’t overly obsessed with her or disliked her. I enjoyed some of her banter with Lala, but I thought their whole relationship and details with the ship were underdeveloped.

I will say, what I enjoy most about the smut is that the boys have basically no idea what’s going on. This wasn’t really the case for Oaken, since he had read the human manual so many times and knew what to expect so I was a little disappointed 🫠

I am SO excited for the next one and am hoping beyond hope that it delivers.

These books are just so much fun to read. Very light and fluffy, low angst and perfect palette cleansers.

Oaken is another adorable golden retriever kinda alien, who is just desperate for a human wife and willing to do anything to get and please one. Jaya crash lands onto the planet and needs a plan to stay in order to get her ship fixed. There’s just a lot of cute goofy miscommunication and quirky characters to have fun with. The group chats between the past brides and Jaya are just hysterical. Definitely recommend giving the series a go if you need some cute aliens in your life.

Oaken has been a fave of mine since book 3, and I’m so happy this ray of sunshine finally got his HEA!

Jaya is forced to crash-land her beloved ship on Zabria Prinar One and is only allowed to stay if she agrees to be a bride. Oaken falls head over heels at first sight and offers to marry her right away.

I liked that the setup was different this time. It added some nice tension since Jaya never intended to be a bride and was planning on leaving. She’s lost everyone close to her and spent so much time on her own, that it was really satisfying to watch her slowly open up to Oaken and start imagining a home with him. He’s just so sweet and charming, clearly craving someone to love and cherish, so they made a perfect match.

Like I’ve said in other reviews, this series continues to be a comfort read for me. It is so full of humor, warmth, and lighthearted moments. I also love how the author drops little glimpses of future characters. With all the plans Tasha has for the bride program, I can’t wait to see what’s next!
