Principia Martindale, an enormous red-head with a special brand of Christian logic, is assigned to teach the Bible in a pathetic Texas ghost town, where she finds her true calling and her true love
Another great story from Swift, who conjures some of the most eccentric characters short of Brautigan/Vonnegut/Robbins. This isn't my favorite of his novels, but it still is an engaging read. The main flaw, IMHO, lies in the lack of sympathy/connection I feel for Principia Martindale herself. I just don't care what happens to her -- and plenty of surprising things do -- so that ultimately it's a pleasant read, but not memorable as much of his other work is.
