A Dark Secret Creates an Evil Scheme
Ren Booth has one goal—revenge. He has a plan to take down his big bad brother, the man who put Ren’s life on a path he hated.

1. Turn Luke’s motorcycle club against him.
2. Hurt the family Luke chose over his own blood.
3. Let Luke rot in the total destruction.

The game sounds easy, but he doesn’t factor in two wild cards connected to his brother.

The Lonely Man
Oli has been working for Luke at his barber shop for years but wants to become a tattoo artist. When Ren opens a new tattoo parlor next door to the Ink Well—the studio Oli wants to work in—Oli is outraged. If that wasn’t bad enough, Ren starts dating the man Oli is in love with, KC Beaumont. Oli refuses to let Ren ruin his goals, even if Ren is hot.

The Overwhelmed College Linebacker
KC Beaumont is the son of Luke’s boyfriend. The only man he’s interested in, Oli, works for Luke, and he can see the problems with that a mile away, so he steers clear. When Oli takes a shot at KC, he makes a choice—date him and Ren, with their knowledge, of course. How could he ever choose?

Self-Discovery Becomes More
The three men balance each other out and start a relationship. Ren’s plans take a back seat as he enjoys time with his new men. What happens when Ren’s secret is exposed? Can the relationship survive deception? Or will Ren be the one left destroyed?

Ink and Insults was a fun, fast-paced read that kept me turning pages.

Let me start with what worked, because there was genuinely a lot to enjoy here.

Ren Booth is an absolute scene-stealer. He's funny, sassy, unapologetically chaotic. The way he bounced between being a manipulative mastermind and just an overgrown kid throwing a tantrum was honestly entertaining. His interactions with Oli were the highlight of the book for me. Watching them spar, both verbally and physically, was electric.

Oliver "Oli" Hayes was a perfect foil for Ren. Their dynamic -- Oli biting back at Ren's provocations while clearly being attracted to him -- was genuinely fun to read.

The not-so-good:
Unfortunately, the execution didn't always match the potential. There were several moments throughout the book where the writing felt... off.
Lines and paragraphs that seemed rushed, lacking depth or polish. Some passages came across as lazy or almost childishly written, as if the authors were trying to hit word count rather than craft meaningful prose.
The emotional beats often didn't land because the execution was clumsy. When characters were supposed to be feeling big emotions (angst, love, betrayal), the writing didn't carry the weight. I wanted to feel what they were feeling, but I was too distracted by awkward phrasing and shallow descriptions.

The Ren-Luke confrontation was a major letdown. After an entire book of buildup -- Ren's scheming, his carefully constructed revenge plan, his deep-seated hatred -- the moment of truth felt rushed and underwhelming.
Oh boy. This is where I really struggled.
Eating disorder? That's what Ren's revenge was about?
I hate to say it, but that reveal was a letdown. After all the mystery, all the buildup, all the hints that Luke had done something unforgivable... it was a careless comment made by a teenager that spiraled into tragedy. Yes, it's realistic. Yes, careless words can have devastating consequences. But as a narrative payoff? It felt underwhelming.
The Andrea storyline, honestly, felt unnecessary. It could have been omitted entirely, and the book might have been stronger for it. Ren's motivation for revenge could have been simpler and more impactful:
Luke left him.
That's it. That's all it needed to be. Luke was Ren's only ally in that toxic family, the only person who ever protected him. And then Luke just... left. He packed his bags and moved to New Gothenburg when Ren was twelve years old, never looked back, never explained. Years of silence, years of abandonment. That kind of betrayal doesn't need an elaborate backstory. It's clean, it's painful, and it's something readers can instantly understand and empathize with.
The authors could have saved the brother reveal for the end, letting the tension build naturally. Imagine: we've been rooting for Ren's revenge, wondering why he hates this mysterious "Luke" so much. We've seen him charm KC and Oli, watched him slowly soften, and just when we think he might abandon his quest, the truth comes out. Luke is his brother. Luke abandoned him when he needed him most.
That would have been devastating. And it would have made Ren's eventual choice to forgive (or not) much more meaningful.

And the sex scene immediately following the confrontation? Completely unnecessary. It felt like the authors didn't know how to transition from drama back to romance, so they defaulted to sex as a band-aid. It didn't land emotionally and actually undermined the gravity of what had just happened.
The moment between KC and Oli where they confessed their feelings happened way too fast and at the wrong time. They'd just been through an emotional wringer, they were both hurting, and suddenly they're declaring love? It felt forced. If the authors had let that moment breathe, let the characters sit in their pain and confusion before arriving at love, it would have been much more impactful.

Ink and Insults had all the ingredients for a great story: a compelling setup, interesting characters, and a spicy romance at its core but the book could have been great with more polish, more emotional depth, and a willingness to let the hard moments breathe instead of rushing to the next plot point.

That said, I don't regret reading it. It was fun, messy, and occasionally frustrating, but I was never bored.

Ren wants to use KC for his own nefarious purpose. He has a PLAN. Oliver is not part of that plan, but he can't say no to the hissy kitten when the young man stalks in his life. Except Oliver has been pining voor KC forever, and he doesn't want someone else to steal him away. He doesn't want anything to do with Ren. Nothing. Not even when Ren makes his body sing and offers not only an opportunity to be with KC, but also persue his lifelong dream to become a tattoo artist.

A complicated threesome, bound together by lies and secrets. Will their newfound connection be strong enough to survive when Ren's past walks back into his life?

I love enemies to lovers and this book started off great.
Ren being all secretative, wanting revenge, and not afraid to destroy others in order to do that.
KC being all sweet, suddenly having the attention of two attractive men on him.
Oliver being akward, yet willing to fight for what he wants. I liked him the most.

While the three of them get together really quickly, there are two sepperate dates between two of them. No cheating. Light kink. The ending felt a bit rushed and could have been drawn out better in my opinion, but it didn't dissappoint.

The story focusses mostly on the developing relationship between the three main charatcers. Ren's PLAN felt a bit like an afterthought, especially when the whole reason he's doing all of this comes to light. I found most people in Oliver's life being very mean to him, not taking him serious or treating him like an adult. Luckily, KC is super sweet and wants to take good care of the young men. I almost didn't notice KC's struggles, but there's more to him than meets the eye. And let's not forget his murderous dad and step-father.

While this book can be read as a stand alone, it follows closely on the story of Will and PD (King's Survivor, Kings of Men Series #11). It also features Quain and Barber, who have their own story in 'King's Barber (Kings of Men Series #8) and I would recommend reading this book to explain more about those two. There's also some other Kings who are mentioned, but nothing important.

While there's a HFN in this book, the authors have expressed their interest in giving this throuple another book to deal with more of their problems, and I can't wait to read more about them!

Ink and Insults brings us back to New Gothenburg and adjacent to the Kings of Men. It’s MMM with an opposites attract feel to it. Some revenge scheming, instalust, a dominant MC and an innocent MC, and little bit of kink and whole lot of heat.

Ren came to town for one reason only: revenge on his brother. He has a plan and doesn’t think anything will deter him. But then KC and Oli happen.

KC plays football. He is Quain’s son and lives with Barber, so he’s used to the antics. But something about Ren really does it for him.

Oli has wanted KC for ages. But he is shy and doesn’t say anything…until Ren comes along threatening to steal the guy he likes. Unfortunately for Oli, Ren’s jerk qualities are also appealing for some reason.

The story has some great characters. We have seen KC and Oli interact in previous books, so it was nice that they finally got the spotlight. I liked the introduction of Ren as the bad boy of the throuple. Both KC and Oli are so sweet that it added dimension to the relationship. I loved the push pull between Oli and Ren, even if I sometimes found Oli too much. The spice is fire between all of them, and I enjoyed seeing Ren find a softer side.

I did feel like parts of the story could have been fleshed out more, like the revenge aspect and the relationship between Ren and Barber. That said, I did enjoy the book quite a bit. And there is a part two, so I’m interested to see how Ren continues to rebuild the trust with his guys and reconnect with his brother.

So I checked this book out! I had been skipping ch & reading in intervals just to get a feel, as I love poly & I was thinking of adding this to tbr.

Then I ended up around ch 17 & it's lead up. OMFG. I did read then onwards with minimal skipping but I won't add this to read, I'm glad to see they've another book so I'll read this as a duet (tho it does HFN) then.

*SPOILERS - basically about Ch 17 & why I liked it*

That emotional mess that followed the consensual yet messy binding hitSSS. I really liked it so much, despite hating how it made Oli feel. But we saw a new side of Ren too. Safe words are so important & while it wasn't said, it was a triggering situation for Oli & that emotional turmoil was shown well. Those type of scenes are my fav! Especially the aftercare was so cute. I hope we get a redo of it, with better ending.

I'm glad K & O aren't forgiving R fast, tho they are cutesy soon. That's my view on this type of situation: grovel hard & make them feel guilty, so they never do the mistake again & without prompt will be better in future.

An MMM story and it’s quite complicated.

We have Ren, who is new in town and is only there for one reason: to destroy his big bad brother, Luke. He will also ruin everyone connected to Luke.

The complications? Oh boy there is enough to mention:
Ren wants a date with KC.
Luke is KC’s dad’s boyfriend.
Oli works at Luke’s barbershop.
Oli hates Ren at first sight and is in love with KC.
Ren and Oli made a bet that involves KC.
KC is torn between two lovers.
Three completely different characters, the feisty one, the soft one, and the bad boy.
There’s still way more to this story.

It was all fabulously written; the characters were well developed, and the dynamic between the three men was spicy, attractive, compelling, and captivating. We can find some familiar faces from other stories of the New Gothenburg series.
Overall an entertaining and quite dynamic narrative.

This book brings us Ren, Oli and KC. Three different men all living three different lives. Once Ren comes to town the three lives begin to intertwine but Ren is in town to inflict the most pain that he can. Yet it soon becomes clear that he is developing true feelings for the two young men. It all started in revenge but it seems as if things are changing quickly and emotions are beginning to take shape. What will happen when Ren’s secrets are revealed?
I enjoyed meeting Ren and getting to see Oli and KC begin to find their way. The three find their lives intertwining and they must decide if they will follow their hearts and fight for what they want or let it all slip away. I loved how they each have such different personalities yet they fit together so well. I enjoyed getting to be along for the ride as these guys begin their journey and I cannot wait to see what more will come for them.

I really enjoyed this first book in the newest series from New Gothenburg by these two great writers. This one has a triad which always makes the relationships more difficult to make work, but also more interesting. Poor Ren is stuck because of something that happened long ago and although he comes to hurt his brother he ends up meeting Oliver and KC and falls for them instead. I liked that the characters were not caricatures, which they could easily have turned into, especially KC. There seems to be a lot fewer physical problems in this series, but there is a lot of angst and pinning and it was fun.
These two authors also do a great job with mexy times and especially with three guys to connect together the ones in this book are particularly good. This book is another example of how great these two ladies are when they put their writing minds together.

OMG I just finished this and Holy 🥵 🤤 🔥 💦

Ren is total fire (I swear I mentally 🤤 every time I see his picture because holy effin 🥵). You might also make some (possibly accurate) assumptions based on the picture that may or may not be (somewhat) true. IYKYK and if you don’t know, you’ll find out when you read the book.

And I do highly recommend reading it because:
A) It’s magnificently written by our dynamic duo of Ki Brightly & M.D. Gregory.
2) It’s part of the New Gothenburg-verse.
C) There’s a few cameos by some of our lovely Kings.
4) There’s plenty of yummy goodness and a great storyline in here.

Can’t wait for the next book to come out. I need more of these three stat.

This story started out with Ren's revenge portion and then got put in the back burner to the throuple building relationship.

I like the story but wish more had centered on the revenge part since Ren had spent years putting together his plan. I enjoyed the dynamic between Oli and KC once they addressed it. I don’t feel that I ever liked Ren. Even though his childhood left a lot to be desired I felt for such a major issue he would have addressed something with Luke before going so all out. But the story is grabbing and the characters are overall likable. I am anxious to see what follows.

Ren wants revenge on his brother Luke, a member of the King's M.C. and a barber. He opens a tattoo shop across from another tattoo shop owned by another King, P.D. Oli works for Luke and wants to tattoo at P.D.'s shop and is also in love with K.C. K.C. is the son of Luke's boyfriend and starts dating Ren. Soon Ren is dating both K.C. and Oli. It's confusing but Ren will be in hot water when everyone finds out this was all for revenge, even though Ren has now fallen for his two guys. It's a throuple with lots of steam and Ren is nasty until he learns his lesson I received a copy of this through BookSprout and this is my voluntary opinion.

I enjoyed reading about Ren, Oli, and KC. Ren went for revenge against his brother and did lots of groundwork before he arrived. He didn't have all the facts on Quain though. The side characters in this book are main characters in other books and help flesh out the story. There's anger and misunderstandings in this and Ren needs to decide what's more important to him. I'm looking forward to their next book.

If you love New Gothenburg you need to read this

If you are invested in the Kings of MC books series and the rest of what goes in on in the Gothenburg work you need to read this, this book had me laughing, crying, and bringing out emotions I hadn’t felt in so long. The author/s find a way to evoke feelings that not many others aren’t successful in. The dynamics between KC, Oli and Ren have me wishing for this in my own life and I can’t wait to read this next book.

Ren, Oliver and KC had a very challenging threesome dynamic to work through. I enjoyed how it all came about with Oliver basically having a fit over Ren possibly stealing KC from him. Ren actually becomes the catalyst for Oliver to finally have all of KC and it was interesting to watch all three work things out and start to develop feelings. KC was definitely the anchor, and Oliver was definitely my favorite. I was glad that Ren's revenge did not over take the romance.

I’ve never been a big reader of polyamory but I have definitely enjoyed it in several books. Of course being set in the New Gothenburg universe makes it a must read. I enjoyed Oli, KC, and Ren quite a bit. I really hope the authors do write another story for them. I’d like to see how their relationship develops. I recommend anything set in this universe.

I received an ARC from the authors and BookSprout for my honest review

Intriguing

Ren shows up in New Gothenburg with a plan ready for action : revenge against his brother.
The only problem is that he's not actually fully aware of all the facts and he finds himself embroiled in a budding romance with two men who have been secretly pining for each other.
Oli and K.C. both have some serious issues going on in their lives and I can't wait for them all to continue to develop their relationship further in book two.

Ren’s kitten & sweetheart

I love a good throuple story. Ren, KC, and Oli were hot and sexy together. The story was short and quick but still full of everything I love from these two authors.

I absolutely loved this story. This was a fantastic start to a new series that runs adjacent to the author’s other series. You really should read the other series to get the full experience but this was an amazing story and I can’t wait for more from this amazing world.

Having arrived with his own plan, Ren doesn’t have all the facts and wants to use everything at his disposal to get his plan into action. Oliver and Kc become drawn into his ploy but the attraction between them is too hard to resist.
A story with complex characters, mystery, overlapping Kings characters and a HFN ending.
There are points in the plot where one needs to concentrate as the story feels a bit rushed but since these guys will be getting a book tow I’m eager for the plot holes to be filled.
An interesting read overall.

This connects with the Kings of Men MC but can be read as standalone. I haven't read the whole series (just a few books) and was able to follow along fine. There are cameos throughout and the characters are explained really well so I didn't feel like I was missing any information.

Opposites attract with sweet moments and some bad boy energy. Mostly focused on the three's relationship in pairs and together as an MMM triad. Very good addition to the New Gothenburg universe from these authors.
