In a world where werewolves hide in plain sight, Alpha Marcus Blackwood has always known exactly where he stands. But when mutilated bodies start appearing in his territory, he finds himself face-to-face with Joanna Sullivan — a lethal werewolf hunter whose very presence makes his wolf howl with desire.
Joanna has spent years hunting monsters, driven by the memory of her sister's murder. The last thing she needs is the dangerous distraction of a powerful alpha, especially one whose amber eyes seem to see straight through to her soul. But as the body count rises and dark secrets surface, Joanna and Marcus find themselves drawn into a web of betrayal that forces them to question everything they believe.
When whispers of revolution threaten to expose the supernatural world, Marcus and Joanna must decide if the burning attraction between them is worth crossing lines of duty. As hunters and werewolves choose sides, it becomes clear they are both struggling with the same
...What if they're not all monsters?
This is a fast-paced paranormal romance novella with open-door spice — perfect for a thrilling one-sitting read.
*This book ends on a cliffhanger and a HFN* HEA guaranteed in book two of the duology, releasing early 2026
If your story ends on a cliffhanger, please let readers know. It’s unfair to have us jump into a story and then -boom- cliffhanger. That’s a pet peeve of myself and probably every other reader in existence.
Barring that, the story was okay. It was exactly what I needed to cleanse my palette after the latest dumpster fire I read (see my review before this) I just needed an entire genre cleanse. A read that was not serious or required any brain power. This one fit the bill.
It was a little speed dating of sorts. Things progressed rather quickly between the leads. This minute they were at each other’s throats, the next, they were proclaimed mates. Truly enough to give a girl whiplash. Whilst I did not enjoy Joanna or Marcus as leads, they were not hateful or ridiculous. I dint think they were likeable, but solely because they were so cookie cutter. They had no individual markers of their personalities. No distinct voices. They both thought and acted the same way. If not for the name at the top of each chapter, I would not distinguish between them.
The vernacular at times was a bit too try when it came to Joanna. As though it was this need to prove that she was a bada**. She’s a hunter, she fights werewolves, that’s cool, but your aura would speak for you and hers did not. Marcus was pretty wishy washy. This moment he’s saying he doesn’t want them to be a thing, the next, he can’t live without her. Ughhhh. Please go away “alpha.”
I didn’t get enough interaction with any of the secondary characters for their sacrifices to be of any emotional impact to me and I was simply thinking, “oh. Well, this is a waste.” Even the way they went was not mentioned. Just a “oh no. They’re not moving.” And no one mourns them.
Not sure if I will pick up the second instalment, but because this book was not in the realm of really, truly awful, but simply okay, it gets 3 stars.
At times, it was a bit difficult to keep interest in reading this. The world didn’t feel very large or developed, but there was some lore here. The treaty was interesting.
The events seem to take place within a month so, it starts to feel like insta just turned to insta lust. I think, with more time, I could’ve been more interested in these two. However, it’s a pretty solid short supernatural romance.
The Alpha's Hunter: A Shapeshifter Romance by Lily Redd brings another dimension to the shifter-verse. Unlike some stories where shifters and humans live side by side or co-exist in an uneasy peace, paranormals live a shadowy existence and are supposedly only under the scrutiny of the government. Our two main characters have an innate conflict, she works as hunter of supernatural beings (especially werewolves) and he is the alpha of his pack! As Joanna and Marcus come in close contact to quell a coming rebellion, they develop a connection that might signal more than just friendship. I enjoyed their emerging bond but liked that they did not fall immediately into a mating. Joanna was a strong woman on a quest to find out what happened to her sister while Marcus was both honorable and loyal. The story had some tense moments and while this story did not end on cliffhanger exactly the ending was surprising and set readers up nicely for hopefully the next episode. Great addition to the shifter-verse. https://theretiredreader.com/f/the-al...
Overall, this book was pretty good. I did feel at times, I had to push through reading this book because the story line started to remind me of other Alpha novels. However, just as the book was coming to an end, things started to pick up with me. It would be very interesting to see what happens with the sister, especially if she ends up being Marcus’s actual fated mate…. Hoping to read a book two sooner rather than later.
Cliffhanger! It ends in a cliffhanger! I don't remember seeing a warning before I started reading but it doesn't lessen the fact that it ends in a cliffhanger. Joanna and Marcus teamed up despite theirs and others prejudices and somehow managed to fall for each in the process.
This was good from the beginning to the end, I'm really looking forward to reading part 2. I hope that James comes around and isn't the mole. I have questions that I hope will be answered in the next and final book. Thank you Lilly, you now have a fan of your writing.
I don't normally read stories about werewolves, but this particular one was written well and had good character development. The book had exciting turns and twists that kept me turning the pages.
I don’t who you are but ma’am please release the second part and no one gets hurt🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was invest from the first chapter so please don’t be like that and make me wait
That man didn’t have a chance once he saw her. She knew the same thing. I’m glad she was a fighter and ready for whatever . She was in it to do right by all . Need part two
Wow, I truly was not expecting that. Now I know there has to be a part 2, how soon will that be out because I have got to read it. This was so awesome, I know we the 2nd part comes out I will read this over again.
This was a really entertaining read. It has a bit of everything: shifters, action, romance, and even some drama. I was looking for a bite-sized, non-gushy werewolf story with a formidable black fmc and this was delivered. I can't wait for more.
