I began writing at the age of eight and wrote my way through the lean years before I found success as New York Times' bestselling author with my first novel GARDEN OF LIES. To date I have published 19 novels and a cookbook. Every life experience I've weathered has found its way into my novels in one form or another: bad exes, births, deaths, divorces, romances, and even true crime. My heroines are like me: tough cookies who don't crumble.

My latest novel, Book One of my Gold Creek series, ALL THEY NEED TO KNOW, is the story of a woman fleeing her abusive ex who finds refuge in a small California mountain town, where she's befriended by a group of women who call themselves The Tattooed Ladies and reinvents herself as a police sketch artist. Kyra "draws lines to stop crimes," as they say in the biz, never imagining she'll one day be forced to confront the biggest criminal of all: her ex.

I'm married to former entertainment reporter Sandy Kenyon and the mother of two grown children. We live in Sacramento, California, where we remodeled a 1940's house for which I was the on-site project manager. Fortunately, multi-tasking is my superpower, so I was able to write a book and supervise a home remodel at the same time. The latter is sure to find its way into a future book. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook to see pics of my home remodel and other adventures.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

This is the first book I’ve read by Eileen Goudge, and all I can say is—Mrs. Goudge, where have you been all my life? I absolutely loved this book. Her writing style is so natural and grounded—it’s not overly poetic or dramatic, which made it feel real and drew me right into the story.

Jo, the main character, felt incredibly relatable. I could feel every one of her emotions—the joy, the grief, the fear. Even though I’ve never experienced becoming a widow, Goudge’s writing made me feel as if I had. My heart broke alongside Jo’s, and as she slowly began to heal after the loss of her husband, Sean, I felt myself healing too.

I appreciated that the story doesn't begin with Sean’s death but picks up a year later. It’s not a story focused on immediately finding a new love interest, but rather one of healing, growth, and family. Jo and her daughters are trying to move forward, and you can feel the love, friendship, and support surrounding them—especially from Jo’s close-knit group of girlfriends.

One of my favorite characters was Hank. Everything about him was wonderful. I even found myself wishing he were 40 years younger so he and Jo could be together. He steps in as a sort of adopted grandfather figure, and his presence brought so much heart to the story.

I cried multiple times while reading this book, but I also finished it with a smile—full of hope and courage. This story was a beautiful reminder that healing is possible and that love comes in many forms.

“The House on Mountain Laurel Lane” by Eileen Goudge is a captivating and heartfelt novel. The Genres for this book are Friendship Fiction, Women’s Domestic Life Fiction and Family Life Fiction. I enjoyed and highly recommend this memorable and thought-provoking book. In this well written story, the author vividly describes the scenery, plot and the colorful, dramatic, and complex characters. The female protagonist, Jo Myers, is having a difficult time, after her husband Sean passes away. She goes through the motions of living with her two young daughters. A good friend shows her a video that Sean had made for her to see after he passed away. He wants her to buy a house with his daughters, and find happiness.

The house that Jo finds is the same one that she and her husband dreamed of. It does come with a tenant, an older helpful man, who lives downstairs, but uses the kitchen and laundry facilities. That certainly helps with the mortgage, and although Jo was hesitant about the arrangements at first, she finds that the man is very helpful. Jo has some supportive friends, and her daughters start to adjust. I appreciate how the author discusses the importance of family, friends, cherishing memories and making new ones.

This is a tender and compassionate look at loss, family, and one woman's journey through grief after the loss of her husband as she rebuilds her life, rediscovers who she is and supports her two young daughters during an emotional time in their lives.

This is the second book in the Gold Creek series and a few of the characters from the first book make brief appearances, but they mainly stay in the background. I missed their sass and seeing their connection with each other! Jo is a much quieter character, but I was pleasantly satisfied when my guesses about how things would turn out were correct.

I listened to the audiobook and dipped into the ebook here and there and Rosanna Pilcher did a good job narrating. And despite its focus on grief, this is a light, easy-going story that has a Hallmark movie vibe, balancing emotional topics, with sprinklings of humour to lighten the mood and a cozy cast of small-town characters who will charm you. May we all have a Hank in our lives!

This is a heartfelt story about the support of community, friends and the power of found family to help us endure life's losses and struggles and celebrate the wins, loves and new experiences.

Disclaimer: My sincere thanks to the author for providing me with ebook and eaudio advanced copies of this book which were given in exchange for my honest review

Eileen Goudge, a beloved New York Times bestselling author (favorite), returns to enchant readers once more with her 21st novel, THE HOUSE ON MOUNTAIN LARUREL LANE, the second installment in her acclaimed Gold Creek Series.

Goudge’s captivating storytelling continues to inspire, inviting readers into the rich tapestry of the Gold Creek community, where the extraordinary Tattooed Ladies await with their myriad untold stories. The anticipation for more adventures in this series is palpable!

“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.”
— Matsuo Basho

In this latest installment, we reconnect with Kyra and the remarkable Tattooed Ladies, whom we first met in Gold Creek #1, All They Need to Know (2024). Kyra Smith, having escaped an abusive marriage, found solace and a fresh start among her new friends, the Tattooed Ladies.

THE HOUSE ON MOUNTAIN LAUREL LANE shifts the focus to Jo Myers, a new member of this vibrant community, and deepens the bonds of friendship and support that define the group.

Meet the Tattooed Ladies:

- Frannie: The nurturing tattoo artist who initially brought the women together.

- Suzy: A stylish grandmother (Cliff) and salon owner grappling with her estranged son.

- Marisol: The bookstore owner is longing for the kind of romance she sells in her shop, particularly with a man named Cal.

- Kyra: Now a sketch artist at the police station, she continues her healing journey alongside her loyal therapy dog, Ranger, and her new love interest, Coop.

- Jo Myers: The heart of The House on Mountain Laurel Lane, a wedding photographer navigating the profound grief of losing her husband, Sean.

About...

This poignant tale follows Jo, a mother of two young girls, Jess and Emma, paralyzed by grief two years after Sean’s battle with brain cancer. As their twelfth wedding anniversary approaches, Jo is confronted with the bittersweet memories of their life together.

In a heartfelt twist, Sean’s close friend, Reggie, delivers a poignant video message, urging Jo to seek happiness and love again—not just for herself, but for their daughters as well.

Inspired by Sean’s heartfelt words, Jo takes her first brave step forward by deciding to purchase the very house she and Sean had once dreamed of sharing with their family. This choice is a bittersweet yet hopeful leap into a new chapter of her life.

However, the house comes with an unexpected twist: an elderly man named Hank already resides in the downstairs apartment. Initially hesitant, Jo agrees to the arrangement, recognizing that his rent will help ease the financial burden of her mortgage. Hank soon becomes a cherished grandfather figure to her daughters and a steadfast friend to Jo.

Encouraged by Sean’s message and the unwavering support of her friends—the Tattooed Ladies—Jo tentatively opens herself up to the possibility of new love. But as she embarks on this journey, an unexpected crisis threatens to unravel her newfound peace, challenging everything she holds dear. Fortunately, her close-knit circle of friends rallies around her, providing the strength she needs to face this challenge.

Will Ian emerge as a new love interest for Jo? Did Sean send her Hank as a special companion, and how will the Tattooed Ladies play a role in her journey?

My Thoughts..

As a long-time fan who has devoured every word Goudge has penned, I am utterly captivated by this series and fervently hope it continues. The author, a masterful storyteller, beautifully weaves the unique struggles and journeys of each woman, creating a rich tapestry of resilience and empowerment.

Hank’s character is a delightful addition, embodying the compassionate mentor, hero, and father figure that Jo and her daughters desperately need. His warmth and wisdom are instrumental in Jo’s healing process, helping her embrace the future after her husband’s passing.

Once again, Jo and her daughters find strength in community, supported by their friends and Hank, as they face challenges while honoring Sean’s wishes for a new beginning. Jo learns to let go of her grief, opening herself to love, a new chapter, and a renewed sense of purpose.

This gripping narrative underscores the idea that family transcends blood relations, as Jo’s friends and Hank become her unwavering support system through life’s trials. Goudge’s storytelling prowess shines brightly, leaving readers eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.

This captivating narrative, brimming with rich symbolism and intricate metaphors, stands out as an exceptional choice for book clubs seeking depth and discussion. Imagine the magic of this series unfolding on the big screen—what a spectacular visual experience that would be!

The name "Tattooed Ladies" resonates both literally and symbolically, representing not just a meeting place but the profound solidarity and unconventional strength of these women. Just as a tattoo leaves a lasting mark, each character bears the scars of life’s challenges, showcasing their resilience and authenticity.

Charming, witty, heartfelt, and utterly inspiring!

The audiobook experience...

I recently had the delightful experience of both reading the book and listening to the audiobook narrated by the incredibly talented Rosanna Pilcher. Her soothing and inviting voice instantly captivates, showcasing perfect pacing, passion, and enthusiasm. She masterfully embodies each character, delivering an engaging and immersive performance that truly brings the story to life.

My Recommendations...

This Gold Creek series is a treasure for devoted fans of Goudge and those who revel in themes of healing, risk-taking, and embracing the future after profound loss, all while enjoying a touch of romance at any age. For readers who cherish uplifting tales of friendship, community, and empowerment, this series is a must-read.

I wholeheartedly encourage you to dive into this remarkable series, and I urge you to explore her extensive backlist and cookbook. It’s a true gem waiting to be discovered. Trust me, you’ll be grateful for the recommendation later!

Fans of Donna Ball’s Ladybug Farms will undoubtedly fall in love with the Tattooed Ladies, as well as those who enjoy the works of Jessica Strawser, Rochelle B. Weinstein, Susan Wiggs, Kristin Hannah, Sherryl Woods, Kristy Woodson Harvey, and uplifting storytelling reminiscent of Hallmark movies and series like Virgin River, Sullivan’s Crossing, and Chesapeake Shores.

The House on Mountain Laurel Lane was my second visit to Gold Creek, and I enjoyed it for what it is: a gentle, heartfelt women’s fiction story centered on healing, friendship, and building a life you didn’t expect. I liked the first book in the series All They Need to Know just a bit more simply because that one leaned more heavily on the strength of female friendships, and I really connected with how those women carried Kyra through her struggles. I saw myself in their bond.

In this book, the focus shifts to Jo, a widowed mom of two young daughters. She is trying to find her footing after the loss of her husband, Sean. When a close friend shows her a heartfelt video Sean recorded before his passing, Jo is encouraged to take a brave step toward a new beginning. She ends up buying a charming house that happens to come with a built-in tenant, an older gentleman who becomes a surprising anchor for her and the girls. This is where the novel leans into its found family theme. The relationship between Jo and this tenant is tender and meaningful, but because of that shift, the strong circle of women from the first book plays a quieter role here. I found myself wishing they had been more central again, but I still loved the emotional heart of the story.

One thing I really appreciated was the honesty around grief, mental well-being, and the slow work of rebuilding. Not everything is neat or easy. The book allows life to be messy, and that made it feel relatable. There’s hope here, but it is grounded hope, softened by therapy, community, and small brave steps forward.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Rosanna Pilcher, and she was wonderful. Her performance added warmth and sincerity to every character. She had a way of sounding natural and emotionally present without ever feeling forced.

Overall, this is a light, uplifting read about moving forward and letting unexpected people into your life. I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy character-focused stories and the comfort of found family. And I will definitely continue with the Gold Creek series, because these women still have more to share and I want to follow where their lives go next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Audio, for the advanced listening copy. All opinions are my own. 3-1/2 stars

What would you do if you lost your husband, and the grief is so much that you can't move forward?

Jo Myers lost her husband Sean to glioblastoma a year and a half ago, but she misses him so much that her grief has left her stuck, and she doesn't know how to move forward with her life. On what would have been their twelfth anniversary, Jo receives a video that Sean made for her, and his message to her is his dying wish for her to start dating again, find happiness, and don't let the past get in the way of her future.

With the help of a loving community of friends, Jo learns to make steps towards moving forward. She finds the dream house that she and Sean had wanted is up for sale, and she wants to purchase it for her and her little girls Jess and Emma. Purchasing the house on Mountain Laurel Lane comes with an added bonus, Hank Goodwin, an older man who has rented the bottom floor from the previous owner. With the help of Hank and a loving community of friends, Jo is able to manage her grief and move forward with her life and embrace what the future may have in store for her.

The House On Mountain Laurel Lane is a beautiful story that will pull at your heartstrings. The storyline is so well written and is incredibly powerful and compelling. You can't help being pulled into Jo's emotional story, it takes the reader on a roller coaster ride where they will feel the full gamut of emotions. With the loving help of her community of friends, the Tattooed Ladies Club, they provide an emotional support network that helps her heal from the loss of her husband and encourages her to restart her life.

The characters are realistic and engaging, their complexities and interactions with each other make the story that much more captivating. The attention to detail throughout the story is outstanding, the palpable emotions will have you clutching the box of tissues, you can't help but be pulled emotionally into Jo's story, and root her on as she embarks on a personal journey of moving forward.

The House On Mountain Laurel Lane is a wonderful story of friendship, love, letting go of the past, managing grief and learning to embrace the future.

The chocolate labrador on the book cover looks exactly like mine. We often sit together just like this picture. I guess I was drawn to the familiarity of the scene depicted. I listened to the audiobook, and the main character narration was great, but the portrayals of some of the supporting characters felt awkward.

Life after loss looks different for everyone who has been there. This is a story of moving forward even when your steps feel uncertain. Jo is a widow and mother of two. The grief she wades through is holding her life in a stagnant pattern. A push to make some changes comes from an unlikely source, a video from her late husband urging her to find a new home and open herself up to finding love again. Jo decides looking for a home is doable as for the rest; she's not ready. The home she and Sean once dreamed of appears on the market and she can almost swing the price of it. If she keeps the elderly lodger the last owner leased to, she can make it work. But living in close proximity to a stranger sounds like a questionable idea. She decides to meet with Hank her would-be lodger and they agree to a trial basis before signing a lease agreement. Hank is a wonderful grandfather type of figure for her girls who need patience and understanding. Jo's daughters are 5 and 7 years-old. The girls are written with realistic reactions. With the support of many good friends, Jo decides to test the waters of dating.

I liked that this novel wasn't filled with easy answers. This isn't a novel about finding Mr. Right. It's about a young mother finding herself and a new path forward after devastating loss. The writing is so dialogue heavy that at times the conversations lacked natural flow. There were moments I found things a little contrived. Overall, I could appreciate the direction of the plot.

I hoped Jo, her girls, and Snickers the labrador would find joy. 🐕🫶🏻🐾

This dreamy cover, right?! It’s one of the joys of my life to read Eileen Goudge’s books, from my childhood, as she ghostwrote many beloved Sweet Valley books, sending me racing to the nearest Walden Books (that smell!), to today. Whatever you write, Eileen, I am here to read it.

“A widow and mom of two struggles to let go of the past and embrace the future in a powerful novel about friendship, love, and taking risks by New York Times bestselling author Eileen Goudge.”

Jo’s husband has passed away, and ever since, she’s understandably stuck. One day she discovers a video he made for her towards the end of his life, where he urges her to find love again. That was the push she needed.

First, she buys a house for her family. It’s not just any house, though. It’s the one she and her past husband dreamed of owning together, one with a magnificent Mountain View. There’s also a resident lodger, warm and kind. Jo starts dating with the support of her circle of friends. The path forward is not a straight line, as many of us can relate to, and she is forced to confront the past as she steps into the future.

The House on Mountain Laurel Lane is technically second in the Gold Creek series, featuring a vibrant community of women friends known as the Tattooed Ladies. This book firmly stands on its own, but you’ll also love book one, All They Need to Know, so I recommend reading that one, too. I cherished Jo’s story. As with Kyra’s journey, it made me wish for a tight knit group of friends like these who truly champion other women at every one of life’s stages.

I loved the addition of Hank to the story. He reminded me a little of my dad. Overall, as you can tell, I loved this book, and I eagerly await book three. I can’t wait for what’s next from one of my most beloved authors.

I received a gifted copy.

Jo and Sean were each other’s soulmates. Although they married young, they enjoyed ten years together, celebrating the births of their two precious daughters. However, their life took a devastating turn when Sean was diagnosed with brain cancer, leading to his early death.
Jo struggles to adjust to her new normal as a full-time photographer and a single mother. After two years of grappling with her grief, she receives a video message from Sean, delivered by his close friend Reggie. Sean had asked Reggie to wait a couple of years before sharing the video, hoping Jo would be more receptive to his words by then. In the video, Sean expresses his enduring love for Jo and their daughters while encouraging her to date and eventually remarry.
This heartfelt message provides Jo with the nudge she needs. She purchases a house that comes with an older man named Hank, who already resides there. Hank lives on the main floor, sharing kitchen and laundry privileges with Jo, and mows the lawn. Jo is willing to let him stay since his rent will help her pay the mortgage. Although she's not ready to remove her wedding ring, Jo cautiously agrees to go on a date.
Throughout her journey, Jo finds solace in a strong, committed group of long-time friends. This becomes even more apparent when a situation out of their control arises, and they rally around each other providing needed support to one another. As Jo survives this unexpected crisis, with gratitude to her friends, she feels she has crossed a huge hurdle and makes the decision to begin to live again.
The characters in this heartwarming story are loveable the relatable and left me with a satisfied, good feeling as the last page was turned.

Brilliant, emotional, uplifting, and therapeutic are just a few words to describe this beautiful book! Her first title prior to this was All They Need To Know, but this can be read as a stand-alone.

Jo is a widow with two young daughters. She learns to navigate life for all of them while forging forward through her grief and life's challenges with the help of her trusted gal pal group, The Tatooed Ladies, as well as her boarder and new friend, Hank.

The close-knit relationships that exist among this group are endearing and strong. I felt as if I had jumped into their lives and experienced their stories myself. Grit, determination, love, strength, and healing are just some of the characteristics you'll experience in this story.

I really enjoyed Hank's character, but all the people in this story have their quirks and good qualities. Also, who doesn't love some cute furry friends to add to the warmth into the mix? This gave me all the feels. I could NOT put this down until the end!

Definitely, hands down, a five-star read for me! I hope there is a continuation of Jo's story as well as the other beautiful people in this book. Bravo, Eileen, for another riveting and captivating novel! I await your next feature!

It is with a gracious and grateful thank you to @eileengoudge for the advanced reader's copy and NetGalley's arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jo's husband Sean passed away from cancer, and he knew she would struggle to move on with their two girls. He made a video and asked their friend to give it to her on their 12th anniversary. After watching the video, she decided to buy a house, she looked at many houses and didn't find anything that she liked. Her realtor said there was one going on the market and would be listed soon, so the realtor showed her. She couldn't believe it, but the house that was going to be going on the market was hers and Sean's dream home. It was above her budget, but the realtor said that there could be a way to make it work. The house had a renter in the bottom floor. If she agreed to keep him on, then she would be able to afford it. She wasn't sure about that one, having a man sharing the kitchen and laundry room, even if he was old enough to be her grandfather. She decided to give it a 30-day try and see what happens. Well, a lot happens, which made for an exciting read. There were a few times, that Jo thought her husband had set things in motion, and I did tend to agree with her. The story will take you though the grief that she and her daughters had, and struggling to navigate through it. Sometimes when she was struggling, her brain would tell her a conversation between her and Sean, it seemed to help her. Did her husband have a hand in the events that took place? .Hope you read the book and decide for yourself.

After the success of last year’s ALL THEY NEED TO KNOW (Gold Creek #1), NYT Bestselling author Eileen Goudge returns to Gold Creek, a peaceful town in the forested foothills and snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada, where there are few secrets. Where lives are lived fully and for the most part serenely.

It is also a gentle reminder that you can climb to its highest summit by doing everything “right” yet still succumb to life’s pitfalls.

How you respond to these perils makes all the difference.

It helps to have a village.

It also helps to be receptive to that village.

This proves to be difficult for Jo who’s lost the love of her life, husband Sean; their world entwined in their own orbit bolstered by the presence of their two young children.

Daughters Jess and Emma often represent the novel’s ethos, at once energetic, inquisitive and sensitive.

Shortly after they found the home of their dreams on Mountain Laurel Lane, and their future, it is revealed that Sean has a brain tumor and passes later that year.

We are informed early of Sean’s passing which is the impetus to Jo’s story, and Goudge takes care to make no illusion about death.

THE HOUSE ON MOUNTAIN LAUREL LANE is a book that can be read to traverse life’s rocky travails no matter how peaceful the landscape.

A landscape that is as subject to the little horrors as its inhabitants.

THE HOUSE ON MOUNTAIN LAUREL LANE is an engrossing tale of grief, and friendship, and what’s left behind when dreams fall apart.

Are you able to let go of the past if you hold on to every cherished memory?

And should we?

The House on Mountain Laurel Lane (Gold Creek #2), will be published on November 11.

The House on Mountain Laurel Lane by Eileen Goudge is a contemporary fiction with a great romance. The book highlights the struggles after the death of a spouse and reminds us that we often need a village, especially due to the unpredictables in life.

Jo Meyers' husband died, rather suddenly. She is struggling with raising her two girls living in a rundown duplex. She is lost and lonely and scared. Then a friend sends her a video that her husband made before he died and Jo realizes that she needs to move on or at least try.

Before she really knows it, she has bought a dream house, inherited a housemate of sorts, and revitalized her “village” of people who push to help her move forward. Even the thought of a date makes her feel upset, but she is willing (with a lot of pushing) to try.

I loved the character of Jo Meyers, a woman who is finding her path to move forward, despite or in spite of the difficulties with each step. I think her resident lodger and tattooed ladies are great characters to help her find her way. Maybe even Jo can find someone to love, in the midst of everything?

I very much enjoyed this novel and will look for others by the same author. The House on Mountain Laurel Lane by Eileen Goudge is a good read.

This was an emotional read that takes you on a journey of love, loss, family, and community. Experiencing life with Jo and her two daughters as they navigate their days after the death of Jo’s husband and the girls’ father. During moments of flashback memories, you will comprehend how his death affects each of them deep and significant way. The people who are a part of their past and those who become part of their new life are so loving and supportive. It was uplifting to see the sense of community surround them. Meeting Hank and getting to know him was life changing for this family. Oh that we could all have a Hank in our lives! While my expectations of how things would turn out came true, it was still a heartwarming time spent in the pages. A touching story that focuses on how important friends are in our lives. And while the pain of loss may never go away entirely, you should cherish the precious memories as you open up your heart to hope and a new chance for love.

The House on Mountain Laurel Lane was a mildly dark hallmark-esque book. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator Rosanna Pilcher did a lovely job.

The story follows Jo, a mother of two and widow who receives a note from her dead husband telling her to move on and find someone new to love. She buys a home and is building a life for herself and her girls while struggling with grief and sticking her toe back into dating.

This is a closed door romance, with the occasional graphic smooch.

Some of the side characters were wonderfully written, like Hank, and others (Parents, Reggie, some tattooed ladies) felt quite awkward/caricatures of real people.

3.5 Stars

Spoiler below -----------

I was a bit disappointed that we didn't actually get to know the MMC. He was supportive over texts and they had one brief meeting - and then all of a sudden the book is ending, he's sacrificing his career, moving to be near her and it's all happy days. It felt a bit lazy that we got next to nothing of the actual budding romance between them.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ALC!

A nice uplifting novel bringing families together. Eileen Goudge has a great writing style that just flows so easy. The characters were very relatable.

Ever since her husband Sean’s death, Jo Myers just can’t move on. Until she receives a video Sean made during his final days, urging her to find happiness after he’s gone. Jolted from her rut, she embarks on a journey forward.

Her first step is buying a house she and her daughters can call home. Framed by the snowcapped peaks of the Sierra Nevada, it’s the very house she and Sean dreamed of owning together one day. It comes with a kindly and elderly resident lodger and an opportunity to make new memories. Jo even dips her toes into the dating pool. With the support of her friends, who call themselves the Tattooed Ladies, she is determined to honor her husband’s last wish. Even as reality comes crashing down again.

When everything she holds dear is threatened, Jo draws on her newfound strength and the power of friendship to finally find her way to the other side of grief and embrace whatever the future may hold.

When I need a heartwarming book Eileen Gouge is my go to author. The House on Mountain Laurel Lane fit the bill like a great big hug. Filled with small town charm, found family, a realistic depiction of grief and a satisfying ending this book is a gem. I’m devastated that I have finished it as I fell in love with the characters and their story.

This is the second book in the Gold Creek series but it can be easily read as a standalone. All They Need to Know is the first book. I highly recommend it as well as you’re introduced to many of the characters that appear in the second book. Both are outstanding cozy reads and I highly recommend them both.

I hope the author is hard at work on a third book in this series. I’ll be waiting not so patiently to devour it in 24 hours as I did this one.

Thank you to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for the DRC in exchange for my honest feedback.

Jo Myers is doing the best she can to keep things moving forward for her and her children after the death of her very loved and adored husband Sean. She is both emotionally and physically stuck until she receives a video Sean has made for her before his passing. It shared what he wanted for her and the girls when he was gone. Surrounded by amazing friends, her fabulous children, a new home that came with a tenant who turns out to be amazing in so many ways, she finds her way to discovering her inner strength to her best self and best life. It’s a beautifully written emotional story that was beautifully narrated. I’ve read quite a few books written by this author and this is my favorite. I hope there is more to come in this series. I just downloaded “All they need to know” and will start listening immediately.

A nice cozy second chance romance. This is the second in a series and I had not read the first but could follow the story although more of a back story would be nice. As a reader you can feel the ackwardness the character experiences as well as the feeling of healing wounds. Thank you to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity.

The House on Mountain Laurel Lane by Eileen Goudge is a heartfelt story about grief, renewal, and the courage to begin again. After losing her husband, Jo Myers takes a leap of faith and moves with her daughters to the mountain home they once dreamed of—a house that soon becomes a symbol of healing and hope.

Goudge writes with warmth and sincerity, capturing both the ache of loss and the quiet joy of rediscovery. The friendships, especially the lively “Tattooed Ladies,” add humor and heart, balancing the emotional depth of Jo’s journey.

While the story follows familiar themes of second chances, it’s beautifully told and deeply comforting. A lovely read for anyone who enjoys character-driven fiction about resilience, friendship, and finding light after loss.

Returning to Gold Creek for book two in the Gold Creek series was like stopping in to see good friends in a place you’ve grown to love. It takes an exceptional author to wield that kind of power in a world of make-believe.

Goudge skillfully guides her readers through grief, acceptance, and a possible second chance at love, while reminding us of the power of friendship and trust with characters who are so real that they breathe life onto the page.

While some books rush to the ending, The House on Mountain Laurel Lane continues to ramp up the tension, culminating in a wonderfully satisfying conclusion.

Can’t wait for the third book in this series.

Thank you to the author and publisher for an early read.

Another beautiful book by Eileen Goudge, who is one of my absolute favorite authors of women's fiction. She has such a way of writing characters with real emotions and stakes that makes you forget they aren't real people. In this novel, a grieving woman receives a message left by her dead husband urging her to move forward with her life. What follows is a beautiful story of found friendship, mother, a hint of romance and so much more. I absolutely loved the way she wrote daughters Emma and Jess. They were so adorable and their issues in the aftermath of losing their father was so believable. I look forward to many more novels from Eileen Goudge!

Thank you to the author for my complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own.

4.5 stars. This women's fiction book deals with living with loss and moving on after you've lost the love of your life, being open to new people and new situations. It had a romance that was almost an aside to the main plot of the book.

I love how the main character went about trying to make life better for her and her girls after the loss of her husband. There's a new house that comes with a border. The unexpected person comes into their lives and challenges the feelings of all of them, until they open their minds and their hearts and accept him as part of their lives. To me that was the big relationship in the story. The romance really was second.

This was a good book and I really enjoyed it. Thanks to Lake Union Publishing for the copy via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Gold Creek series. Eileen Goudge has penned another great story filled with emotions, trust issues, and overcoming major life changes. This book makes you want to get to know the people of Gold Creek as they are so supportive of each other. It is lovely the way things work out at the end of the book and it is a thoroughly enjoyable story getting to the happy ending. I believe it is best you read the first book in the series first so you are acquainted with many of the characters in the book, however if you are unable to get your hands on the first book in the series, this book is a great story in it's own rite.

Book 2 in the Gold Creek series. Works as a stand alone.

This is a book about moving on. Jo lost her husband to cancer. She is left raising their two young girls alone. Her husband wrote her a letter before he died and had it delivered two years later- urging Jo to move on. She begins doing what he asked and the family starts to heal.

I didn't emotionally connect with this, despite the circumstances. I liked it, just didn't love it. Not sure if I will continue the series.

Rosanna Pilcher narrates the audiobook.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A heartfelt & relatable read

The House on Mountain Laurel Lane is a heartfelt story that resonated with me. As a widow myself, I appreciated how the book portrayed the ups and downs of moving forward…it’s not always a linear path. The main character, Jo, is a loving mother doing her best to navigate a difficult chapter, and I found her strength and vulnerability realistic. I also really enjoyed the strong sense of community, especially how her friends showed up for her in meaningful ways. A warm, emotional read that offers both hope and comfort.

This is a sweet story of grief, strength, friendship, and love. It is a perfect read to curl up with on a cold day and journey with this widow and her sweet girls as they figure out their new normal. One of my favorite aspects of this book is that while it is a love story, it is more about her growth as a mother and a person. The characters were very well-developed and made you want to move to this town to be a part of their lives.

Just loved this 2nd book in the series, this is the story of Jo Myers who is one of the group of friends from the first book. Jo sadly loses Sean her husband after a diagnosis of a brain tumor. This is the story of her time to move on after seeing a video Sean made for her and was passed to her by their close friend a year after his death. This is a story of love, friendship and moving on and I just loved it.
Enjoy !
My thanks as always to Netgalley and to Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity for the early read.

Thank you, NetGalley & Lake Union Publishing, for the ARC.

It has been a long time since I read a book by Ms. Goudge, and, based on this outing, I am not sure why I stopped. The story revolves around a family that lost their husband / father and how they are coping. Jo receives a video featuring her late husband that jump starts the changes in her life. She starts dating (initially a disaster) and creates a new “family” with the elderly lodger who has been renting from the former owner. A rocky start morphs into a tight family unit providing Jo with a newfound strength of purpose. I am looking forward to the next Gold Creek book.
