Rate this book
An Intuitive Touch follows Dr. Sarah Holland's journey from a reclusive pharmacological researcher to a private investigator with telepathic abilities brought on by physical touch -- thanks to a life-changing discovery involving the secretions of two rare Bolivian frogs.
The highly introverted Sarah’s newfound prowess and sudden charm draw the attention of colleagues and her donor-greedy supervisor, Dr. Werner Klemm, but also lead to unforeseen dangers when a jealous Dr. Caden Kaplan, who initially gifted her with the frogs, falls ill after tampering with her research. She gathers all her work and takes it home.
Soon after, her apartment is ransacked, which leads her to the police station, where Sarah encounters Lt. Pete Townsend, an old connection from her brief stint in law enforcement before turning to science. Pete is stunned by her abilities. He asks her to come help them out on the force. She brushes it off at first, but when he comes to her with a kidnapping case, Sarah is all in.
Compelled by a childhood tragedy, Sarah appears ready to work and is soon teamed up with Det. Jack Callahan to solve the disappearance of a young girl, Amy. After navigating a complex web of deceit, a harrowing experience with a dark suspect with a grotesque and vicious mind, pushes the intuitive Sarah to her limits but leaves them no closer to finding Amy. At her breaking point, Sarah leaves the force. It’s then that Sarah turns to Dr. Jeff Youngblood, a shaman and biologist, who helps her confront and reconcile with her past. After a life-altering breakthrough, Sarah decides to open her own private investigation agency, Soon, her partner and now-love-interest, Jack, joins her.
Rejuvenated and filled with purpose, Sarah and Jack, working on their own terms, are approached by Amy's mother, who is disillusioned with police efforts to find her daughter. The new PIs’ probe unravels a sinister trafficking ring and brings Amy home. Eventually, this leads to also discovering that Sarah’s supervisor, Werner Klemm, had been a part of it all.
Throughout her journey, Sarah's personal growth is mirrored in her relationships with neighbors Chrissy and Margaret, evolving from isolation to a connected, empowered individual with real friends and someone to love -- Jack. An Intuitive Touch is a story of redemption, resilience, and the profound impact of human connection, showcasing Sarah's transition from solitude to becoming a beacon of hope and love in her community.

An Intuitive Touch by Geoff McCue is an intriguing narrative that follows the journey of Sarah, a former Ph.D. professor of Pharmacy striving to develop a medication for schizophrenia.

At the beginning of the story, Sarah with her two besties Paul and Saul starts to work on the medication drug. Caden who was a guy working with Sarah helped her in experiments by bringing frogs from the black market. Caden later on left Sarah as he got a better career opportunity at Johns Hopkins University.

Adam who was snooping at Sarah’s lab got a side effect reaction from the frog secretion resulting in an unstopping laughter. Sarah was surprised and went to the Police Station where later on, she got employed as a Police Officer without training as the drug she developed had the extraordinary ability to read people’s thoughts just by touching them. This ability made her suffer as she got exposed to the darkest thoughts of suspects.

She liked a handsome fellow officer Jack but her declining state of mental health made her quit and she left the Police Force. She had a strong regret of making this drug but she started to work in the pharmaceutical field again as she reconnected with Chrissy, her old friend. He suggested a Biology Professor who recommended Sarah to discover herself to overcome her mental health issues.

Sarah was betrayed and threatened by a corporate spy who was the head of the Department of Pharmacy, Werner Klemm. But, Sarah dealt with this situation very easily as she was a former Police Officer. In the end, Sarah got invited to the Annual Global Association of Investigators Ceremony and won the "Investigator of the Year" award and an award for her agency. Sarah finally gets the fruit of her hardships for humanity.

There are a lot of surprising turns in this book that keep readers interested. It's a unique jewel that combines investigative work, emotional hardships, and scientific breakthroughs. Though it could be a little confusing for readers, I wasn't quite sure how the characters linked to one another.

Anyone who appreciates gripping stories with science and complex characters should read this book, in my opinion. You'll definitely enjoy it much more if you enjoy criminal or medical dramas.
