If you enjoy books that throw you straight into action from the very first chapter, this one definitely delivers. I started this book expecting a typical fantasy adventure, but what I found instead was a fast, gritty story that blends dark action, mystery, and humor in a surprisingly engaging way.
The story follows Ollie Hauk, a travelling goblin hunter who arrives in a small Northern California town after a brutal attack signals the presence of a dangerous hobgoblin. What makes Ollie interesting is that he doesn’t feel like a perfect hero. He’s sharp, sarcastic, and at times emotionally guarded, which makes his character feel more real. His reluctant bravery and dry sense of humor add a nice balance to the darker tone of the story.
One of the strongest aspects of the book is how naturally the supernatural world blends into everyday life. Familiar places like roadside motels, forests, libraries, and quiet town streets become settings for something far more sinister. This contrast actually makes the danger feel more believable and intense.
The action scenes are gripping, but what I appreciated even more were the emotional glimpses into Ollie’s past. These moments give the story more depth than just a monster hunt. I also liked that some of the goblins weren’t written as simple creatures of chaos but had their own strange personalities, which added unpredictability to the plot.
This book manages to balance suspense, world-building, and character depth while still keeping a tight pace. It feels like just the beginning of a much larger world.

Kris Kramer’s fantasy fiction hides the strange in the everyday the supernatural is always close to home in his work. The characters are very engaging, particularly Ollie, whose reluctant heroism and dry wit are so appealing. The pacing adds to the tension while sharp witted humour balances the darker aspects of work. The Goblin Hunter: Book One delivers a satisfying mystery but teases an even larger world waiting to unfold.

This is actually a very interesting urban fantasy book. The central character or protagonist here is Ollie Hauk, who in all technicalities is a "goblin hunter". If you thought goblins are harmless and only cause minor mischief, you are in for a surprise!
This book has all the necessary elements of the fantasy genre. It incorporates dark humour quite skilfully and I noticed that the best part was how the author was able to use everyday, mundane events and backdrops to tell a tale that is rather extraordinary. I am quite impressed with this book and I think readers who like fantasy will particularly enjoy it.

Fun and interesting.
GOBLIN HUNTER, Audiobook and eBook - Not knowing what to expect and wanting a different genre, I selected these books. Luck was with me. This is an immersing read with intriguing story lines and an interesting variety of characters. There is a bit of humor, too. Clean and good enough for older adolescents. The narration is done by Virtual Voice and does a good job since the book only contains the English vocabulary but does a terrible job of casting the spells - makes the witch sound inexperienced. Source: My Kindle and Audible libraries. 4*
