AHH THE ENDINGGG THE ENDINGG GUYSSSS,
i am so happy just because of this book. the amount of dopamine that’s in my system rn is crazy..

OKAY so this one was left off on a bit of a cliffhanger if you will, and i don’t wanna spoil BUT THIS WAS SOO CUTEEE.
a little bit of a love triangle (maybe?) and i’m so here for it. these characters, the art style and the writing is all so top tier. i love it sm and i’m literally about to dive into the third one rn ! <3

Updated Review 9/28/25: The ending of this volume is so very good! I think outside the spoiler I saw, its what made me want to get the series physically because I'm all here for Otogi's "downfall" of getting trapped by love! LOL! I also just really appreciate seeing these two grow closer and be real with one another. It's very satisfying and just a lot of fun!

I've only read the opening chapter of volume three, so everything past that will be brand new to me and really excited!

Original Review 9/7/25: I recently saw a spoiler (that I purposely chose to look at as an FYI) and it convinced me to come back to this series and give it a second chance, and after reading this volume on K MANGA, I'm glad I did!

I felt A LOT more invested in the characters than I did in volume one because I was not on board with Otogi's character. I wouldn't say I had a huge change of heart concerning her in this one, BUT! I found that her being in love was the key I needed to not have her act so perfect. LOL!

Maybe that sounds bad, but that was honestly the biggest reason I didn't enjoy volume one. *hides*

Well, that and me not really wanting a romance, but I also had a change of heart there and enjoyed seeing the romance bloom in this volume! Granted, I'm not going to deny that I got excited when that second male lead showed up because what a cutie!!

But back to Otomi, I found her a lot more relatable in these chapters and loved seeing her unnerved and emotional! I found more qualities in her that were endearing, and I'm excited to see where her journey leads because what an explosive way to end a volume!

I am currently debating if I want to keep using my points to "read ahead" or not, but I can say I have a genuine interest in reading more of the story by picking up the volumes physically!

There is a colossal flaw with this series, which is that it is really ‘of a premise’ rather than ‘about a premise’. Which is my fancy way of saying that it isn’t doing half as much with its core conceit this volume versus last time.

The big personality shifts are mostly down to Ninomae curling his lip every now and again. Otogi is basically limited to her internal monologue; there’s nothing like what we saw before and it turns this incredibly generic.

Not bad generic, but generic all the same. One thing that saves it is the artwork, which remains staggeringly beautiful. I imagine Coco Uzuki has some stunning images still up her sleeve and I fully intend to be around to see them. The art props up the weak story.

I mean, the no-hope rival turns out to be a guy who just… lives like he wants rather than our buttoned-down leads. This essentially forms the entire dramatics for this volume, minus its romance.

But I don’t mind the romance, it’s just far more cliche than you’d expect given the unique premise. It’s hitting standard tropes rather than doing anything new with them. Otogi is a great viewpoint character, but she’s really no different from any other lead this volume.

It’s a bit of a shaggy dog, but one that has its tongue lolling and endeavours to be a good boy. Otogi’s friends are a fun bunch, the one who has a crush on the dullest guy ever is a hoot, but they have barely enough page time to make an impression in terms of personality.

You could do a lot worse, but I’m struggling to see how a story about two people like this translates into something so mundane. I mean, stay for the art, but don’t expect anything great in the writing department.

3.5 stars - that extra half is entirely, 100%, completely for the artwork, which I utterly love. It’s got such a style to it that is almost completely not mirrored by the words coming out of the cast’s mouths.

Rai better not be the “second love interest”. He’s fine as hell but we already KNOW HOW THEY GET TREATED!!

I just love seeing Otogi and Ikkoku break down each other’s walls. I like seeing them grow more and more comfortable with each other. Otogi’s frustration with how unpredictable her crush on Ikkoku makes her? Relatable. Ikkoku thinking of Otogi and smiling before he falls asleep? Adorable.

I’m afraid to talk about how much I love Coco Uzuki’s style; if I start, I won’t shut up if I do! Everyone’s so gorgeous and expressive!

Volume 3’s translation can’t come out fast enough for me.

I used to hate mornings so much but since meeting you, I find myself looking forward to waking up everyday.

The characters
Otogi Katsura .ᐟ Class president, loved by everyone in school and is known as the school's heartthrob angel. She's also a narcissist. (which I love🤣) However, she holds a dark secret, she's sharp-tongued, feisty and bold.

Toki Ninomae .ᐟ Vice president, loved by everyone in school and is very polite. He also holds a secret, he's blunt, fearless and bold.

Rai Futagami .ᐟ Super friendly with everyone, just as popular as Ninomae and created the “heartthrob angel” title.

My thoughts
I think she confessed her feelings and said I love you too early, honestly it fits her personality so it works I guess. Anyway, I like how confident she is, like yes girl!

Also a possible love triangle forming? 🫢 A new character, Rai Futagami has been introduced and honestly he’s seems like a lot of fun, I’m excited to see how things go!

omgomgomg THE DRAMA IS RAMPING UP!! i already love Rai Futagami and i know the second lead syndrome is going to be strong with this one!!

(spoilers!!) i loved the scene where Toki defended her from the salty people. but ahhh i can't believe Otogi confessed!! and Toki didn't accept her.... but the angst was so on point with that he really doesn't seem like someone who understands love at all, but god it was heartbreaking because i know exactly how it feels like trying not to cry after something like that and having to walk home in shame.

but Toki holding back his Dark Ikkoku from Otogi now..... god i'm going to cry.

side note: Nono-kun and that blond girl though, curious......

and Futagami knows!!

even cuter than the first volume! i love seeing their relationship progress and the two of them start to show even more sides of themselves to each other. the introduction of a rival is exciting, as well as the instances of jealousy and protectiveness that they mutually feel towards each other.

i should be on a book buying ban but i will be going to get volume three this weekend hehe

This dynamic adds depth and intrigue, making me genuinely invested in seeing how their relationships and self-discovery would unfold. Unfortunately, my reading experience was interrupted when the translation quality suddenly changed, making it harder to follow. I attempted to find alternative English sources to continue reading, but couldn’t locate any reliable sites, which was disappointing. Despite this, the story itself shows promise, with relatable characters and a thoughtful exploration of identity and trust. Overall, this manga is a cute and insightful manga with realistic themes, but accessibility issues with translations currently make it difficult to enjoy fully.

I love how they had so many cute moments in this volume like them both seeing that couple making out in the forest and Otogi being like OH HELL NAH
And i will be damned if Ninomae doesn't like her like girl, u be dropping hints left and right. Some guys in relationships aren't even as direct as you sir. Like not him being so obviously jealous (?) Like Otogi I'm confused too girl.
I also love their shocked faces like that is so real man and I love Otogi being with the girlies. I am quite shocked that none of them are jealous of how many guys she attracts.
And OMG THEM IN THE RAIN TOGETHER AHHHH
But my FAVOURITE SCENE in the volume is Ninomae willing to risk exposing his 'true self' to help protect Otogi like damn thats romantic as hell.
I can't believe Otogi confessed to him at the end tho like damn girl. Go get that bag I guess but the fact that they introduced us to another dude makes me kind of nervous that its gonna be a while before they actually get together.
