Mortified!

The day I met Mr Umbrella was one of my worst. Not quite my-tits-plastered-all-over-social-media humiliating, but a close second to that horrible mishap. I was soaking wet from the rain with my shirt nearly see-through, and I did trap him between lift doors.

Luckily, I wasn’t going to see him again, which made that situation only slightly better. Only, after that he seemed to be absolutely everywhere, and I was more humiliated each time.

Red Cheeks and Mr Umbrella. I’m not even joking. That’s how we called each other before we were formally introduced. Despite knowing my name for quite a while now, he’s pretty adamant on reminding me of the nickname.

Little Red-Cheeked Dancing Girl? That’s even worse!

Gorgeous? He has no reason to utter that one! Every single time he’s seen me, I’ve been a mess. Not even a hot mess, trust me. Yet he keeps up this charade.

I’m starting to think he’s not playing a game.

THIS BOOK WAS CUTE AND HAD POTENTIAL, BUT I COULDN'T GET PASSED THE ICK THE MMC GAVE ME. THERE WERE A FEW MOMENTS WHERE HE REDEEMED HIMSELF, BUT IT NEVER LASTED. THE MFC HAD DEPTH AND TRAUMA THAT I WISH WOULD HAVE BEEN EXPLORED MORE. IT WAS HARD TO CONNECT OR GET ATTACHED TO THE CHARACTERS.

This book is so cute! The nicknames are adorable, and I absolutely loved the conversation and banter throughout. Luke was such a king — we love a supportive and sweet MMC!

The book was well-written and easy to get into. The pacing kept things engaging, and I found myself smiling more than once while reading. The chemistry between the characters felt natural, and their growth made the story even more satisfying.

It’s the kind of feel-good romance that’s perfect for when you want something light but still meaningful.

This is my first ARC, and I can’t tell you how much I loved it. Elevate with me, true to the title, elevated my mood manifold with an ardent plot. I couldn’t refrain from admiring the author for all the romance she has weaved through the characters. With the perfect alignment of words at the right moment, I think that’s where the author scores the highest marks from the reader and she has outscored herself every time I underlined the sentences and words I loved.

Imagine being struck in an elevator with a handsome man when your clothes are all wet. Nothing could be more embarrassing than this but nothing can be more interesting than that man instantly falling head over heels for you right then. I knew that I was going to enjoy this.

Haylee visits her bestie Glen and that’s where she meets Luca. Deeply hurt by past events, Haylee has a hard time trusting people. But Luca is all that she needs. Luca enters her life just like rain on parched land, easing out of her worries. Teasing her, helping her, and slowly breaking all the impregnable walls she has built around her heart. Although Luca has had his fair share of fateful events, he isn’t one per cent doubtful about loving Haylee, and he showers her with love every time he is around her.

This engaging and swoon-worthy story makes us groove with the characters while they navigate through their emotions and build their relationship.
I had a good time reading this and I realised that I needed this for a long time and I can’t thank the author enough for sending me the ARC. I somehow felt related to Haylee and I now long for my Luca.

Highly recommended for romance lovers! If filmed, this story would be commended by everyone for all the romantic gestures and words. I just ended up loving everything about this book. I’m already in for the sequel.

Dear Luca,
Where are you? When are you coming?
I’m awaiting your arrival. Come soon!

This book was fun, I liked the concept of a meeting in a lift, and a forced proximity through living in the same place.

I didn't really care for the MMC, but the relationship between the FMC and her best friend was really interesting, I like seeing more of that in romance novels.

I'm disappointed and feel bad for leaving this at a two stars, but I'd like to be honest and leave in my feedback. I personally DNF this book as it felt boring, I didn't connect with the characters and I didn't really want to know what was going to happen next because I couldn't care less about the characters. Not by any means I am saying it's a bad book because at the end of the day I didn't finish it, though I don't think it's quite my taste! Still give this book a try though, you might like it!! Thank you tons to Victoria for the arc copy, still very much appreciated x

OOF.

Haylee meets Luke in the opposite of a meet cute and then becomes his neighbor. (TW: consent issues, child abandonment, narcissism)

Release date 7/7/25.

I wanted to love this book but it was just okay. The pacing/plot was weird at times. It made confusing jumps (both time and place). Haylee’s fears from her trauma were so valid and relatable. But there wasn’t much depth or growth. Or chemistry. Or consent. And “little red-cheeked dancing girl” is so cringe.

In the first half of this book, Luke is problematic. I think Luke means well and seems like a good guy but his behavior definitely had some red flags and creeper vibes. Why write the character this way? This is instalust disguised as instalove. His low key stalking and manipulation is written off as “passion.” He knew she felt uncomfortable but he didn’t stop but instead makes multiple sex jokes. 🚩 (See spoiler section below for more on Luke.) In the second half of this book, Luke is better at ASKING Haylee about things.

☂️Dual POV
🐈‍⬛Cute cat
☂️England
🐈‍⬛Meddling parents
☂️Supportive BFF
🐈‍⬛Age gap
☂️Strangers to lovers
🐈‍⬛Dance teacher FMC
☂️Tech nerd MMC

Thank you to the author for the ARC. I hope Haylee gets her “found family” trope later in the series.

🚨 spoilers - thoughts on Luke
-Man sees woman’s nipples through her wet shirt in the rain and won’t leave her alone after that despite making her VISIBLY uncomfortable repeatedly. That’s not cute. That’s predatory. Is this a dark romance because Luke is low key stalking her? There’s so many consent red flags from Luke and THAT is exactly what Haylee’s trauma was about and Luke KNEW that.
-He forced her to hug him.
-To be smart enough to be in programming, Luke made an idiotic move opening those files. Computers leave breadcrumbs and he should have been smart enough to either not do that in the first place (!!) or cover his tracks. This was a HUGE violation of Haylee’s privacy. Also very unprofessional.
-“Haylee could have said no and she didn’t.” Haylee was triggered in all those moments and said she couldn’t think or speak.

Elevate With Me - the title says it all. A romance that blossoms from a chance encounter (and an embarrassing scene or three) inside the apartment building’s lift.

Haylee ‘Red Cheeks’ is a 25-year-old Brit - love the British rep, of course - with overbearing parents, a supportive, cheerleader-type best friend, a fabulous furry sidekick with an attitude to die for, and, like most romance heroines, a fair share of relationship trauma.
Please note: Haylee’s backstory includes mentions of past trauma, mental health struggles, family turmoil, and consent, so please be mindful of that before diving in.

Enter Luca - ‘Mr. Umbrella’ - a 32-year old Italian-American who brings all the warmth of Italian cooking, loves his Nonni, is close with his family, and honestly? I don’t know what’s going on with my reads lately, but I’m here for all the green-flag book boyfriends.
And Luca? He did not disappoint. Here to save the day and bring out the best in our girl, he may come off a little overprotective at times, second guessing his own motives due to Haylee’s initial responses, but he always tries to be a supportive, encouraging gentleman.

Can I just say: I will never look at meatballs the same again after that scene - think Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in Ghost, but in the kitchen!

My only niggle - and while I completely understand why she is the way she is - there were moments when Haylee felt a little too scared to let her true feelings for Luca show. There’s reason to be timid and cautious, of course, but sometimes it felt a bit overdone.

This is one of those books where you can picture every scene playing out on the big screen. It has all the makings of a hilariously adorable romcom: fantastic chemistry, snappy one-liners, hilarious antics, and sweet undertones. A real feel good romance that will have you kicking your feet.

Yes, it follows a predictable outcome, and yes, we’re all rooting for it, but the relationship development was written in a much more natural, believable way than most forced romances. It offers this lovely sense of realism - that maybe, just maybe, someone special shows up when you least expect it. (Yes, I’m a hopeless romantic, single as they come, and totally here for this sentiment!)

I also really appreciated that the spice stayed behind closed doors. Now, I’m a smut girly through and through, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out at all - it actually emphasised the authentic, grounded tone the author was going for.

The ending leaves the door open for a second book, potentially Glen’s story? but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where Victoria Liiv takes us next.

If you’re after a comforting, lovely, lighthearted, and fun read, Elevate With Me is the perfect pick.

Thank you so much to Victoria Liiv for sending an early copy for me to read and review!

This was such a sweet and enjoyable closed-door contemporary romance. The story had a soft, comforting tone that made it easy to get lost in, and I genuinely had a lovely time reading it.

Luca, the male lead, was the definition of sweet—though I have to admit, he did come off just a little stalkerish at times. But honestly, he was so endearing about it that I found myself forgiving him pretty quickly! His intentions were clearly genuine, and his awkwardness just added to the charm.

Haylee, the main character, was where this story really shone for me. The author did a fantastic job of portraying her nervousness and self-doubt in a way that felt incredibly real and relatable. I found myself rooting for her at every step, and I could feel her tension in some scenes—it was that immersive. She was written with such care that she felt like someone I might actually know.

The dynamic between Haylee and Luca was adorable. If you're someone who enjoys a gentle, slow build-up to a relationship—full of sweet interactions, meaningful glances, and that heartwarming tension of two people slowly falling for each other—this book has plenty of that.

Overall, Elevate With Me is a lovely, feel-good read with characters that feel real and a romance that makes you smile. Definitely worth picking up if you're in the mood for something light, tender, and heartwarming.

This is a closed door super slow burn. The couple has a great meet cute and the nicknames are adorable. She is moving in with her friend because her mother treats her like she is 12…..she is 25! Luke is in town for the roll out of his program to a firm in England and then he will be heading home to the USA in a month. Still he can’t stop thinking about the girl on the lift that captured his attention. He manages to run into her again and helps her move her mattress up 12 flights of stairs. The friend she is moving in with lives in the building he is staying at.

Luke has the best lines! He blurts out things with double entendres. He will make you smile and giggle. Personally I loved him and felt like he handled her trauma really well.

For a 25 year old Haylee was way too scared of everything - like a child. She had a traumatic experience and her fears were justified but by 80% I was done with her being so scared of the man she claimed to love.

She is the reason I am teetering between 3 or 4 stars. That and the name thing. I just didn’t get it. The story flips between Haylee and Hallie.. The overall storyline was good and there were some very sweet moments.

The epilogue was good but again she couldn’t even handle that one little problem without crying?

✨BOOK REVIEW! Elevate with Me by Victoria Liiv

What a hilarious and heart-swoony start to Luke and Haylee’s story! Elevate with Me kicks off with a wet and wild elevator scene that had me laughing out loud and instantly rooting for this quirky, endearing pair. From awkward beginnings to adorable banter, the chemistry between them is electric—without needing to swing the bedroom door wide open.

This is a fast-paced, feel-good romance with just the right dash of spice (1 spice level—think teasing touches and flirty petting) and a whole lotta heart (5 hearts, easy). Luke and Haylee each have their walls, but watching them fumble, grow, and finally click was so satisfying.

Their journey isn’t always smooth—there’s emotional hesitation and personal fears—but the payoff? Totally worth it. And yes, there’s a sweet, satisfying HEA waiting at the top floor.

If you’re in the mood for laughs, lovable characters, a little swoon, and a whole lot of heart—this one’s for you!
Elevator mishaps never looked so romantic.

I found this to be a very cute and light romance, and I liked that it was written in dual POV.

The very shy MFC, Haylee, has a lot of relateble insecurities that I think most young women would be able to resonate with. She had built walls around her heart that the MMC, Luke, is desperate to break through.

Luke is the very obsessive, over protective type and has no trouble making his feelings known, even though at times, he finds himself second guessing everything he says and feels towards Haylee because she doesn't respond well to most of it. He really tries to be the encouraging, perfect gentlemen all the time, taking care in figuring out how to talk to her and act around her to make her less uncomfortable. He says all the right things, but like most women, Haylee needs more than words to convince her that he means everything he says.

Her best friend, who is also the main side character, is a very solid, supportive presence throughout the story. I like that there's a hint towards the end of the book that we might get a story based on Glen's character. Makes me excited for the next book!

I received this as an ARC and I’m so glad I did. This was a really cute rom com. Luca/Luke/Mr. Umbrella is absolutely written like a dream. What an amazingly patient, romantic, playful, sweetheart of a man. As an American woman, I wish there were more like him around when I was MFC’s age haha. Who wouldn’t fall in love with him? I really loved their banter, I loved being able to see both POVs. Haylee was awkward and lovable and has an overbearing mother that has made her doubt herself with a terribly bad interaction with a “boyfriend” that compounded that self doubt, which makes her absolutely relatable in a lot of ways. It’s not always an overbearing mother, but the self doubt and the negative talk and the inability to even express what makes oneself happy immediately. I found myself laughing and smiling along with this book and saying nooo this is going to come back in the worst way. Luca defending her honor was very satisfying, even if it caused a small issue, their lack of communication regarding his moving back to the states was hard to read, but who doesn’t avoid hard things sometimes? All in all I would recommend if you like rom coms. Well done.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and here are my honest thoughts.

First, let me start by saying that I am not normally a romance reader but I chose this book because it sounded interesting and I wanted to continue to go outside of my normal reading habits. For someone who's not normally a typical romance reader, I loved this book. This was a very comfortable and cozy read and I basically read it in one day.

I loved that the relationship in the book between the main characters didn't feel forced. It just had a natural progression about it that made me love it even more. The banter between Luke and Haylee was great. The author wrote in a way that almost makes us believe that there's someone out there for each of us and how it will come to us unexpectedly and when the moment is right.

Haylee was so relatable with the fears that she had because of things she had gone through in her past. This was a very light-hearted read and I highly recommend it because this book was like a breath of fresh air.

This was an adorable love story. I enjoyed that it showed both sides of the story showing how each was thinking trying to be around each other and trying to understand their feelings. All the awkward situations Haylee got into and was embarrassed for was so relatable and funny.

My only critique would be I felt the ending was rushed. The story of them starting out was very detailed and told well. The ending just seemed like it was just pushing forward to an ending we all assumed already. Im hoping there will be more because it left alot unanswered for me. What happened to the friends case? Did the mom ever accept the relationship? Did anything ever happen after the huge fight in the restaurant? The spice level was confusing to me. Luke was described pleasuring himself but then when they actually decide to be together it just jumps to the next morning in the next sentence. The time jumping from one sentence to the next I wasn't a fan of. Needed smoother transition. but overall I enjoyed the read and would definitely read more from this author.

This is the first book in the Elevate series, and it was very wholesome and cute despite it having some darker themes. The meatball scene was 🥰. Iykyk. 🍝

Haylee and Luca keep bumping into each other in or around the elevator in their building, and Haylee is always in a very disheveled state, while Luca is always *picco bello*. It's almost attraction at first sight even though they don't want to admit it. He finds out about her darkest deepest secret and now loves her more than ever. Between coking together, hot kisses in the elevator, and a cat that keeps getting away, will they be able to start a relationship? Especially considering Luca has only a month left in England...

Favorite quote out of context:
"That's one way to get the man into bed. Just trip him with a mattress, that would certainly do it." 🤭

Tropes include: 🐈‍⬛ Contemporary Romance 🍝 Cooking together 🐈‍⬛ Hot elevator scenes 🍝 Closed door 🐈‍⬛ He saves her 🍝 Hot Italian MMC 🐈‍⬛ Cute British FMC 🍝 Programmer x Dancer 🐈‍⬛ Best friend Side Kick

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice: 🌶️ (heated kisses, closed door)

📦 Haylee moves into a new apartment with her best friend and meets Luca… in quite an awkward way (hello, embarrassing elevator moment! 😅).

🇮🇹 Luca – a handsome Italian, temporary IT guy in England – slowly starts to shake up Haylee’s world. But can she open her heart again after it’s been broken?

💕 This book is a delightful closed-door romance – so all the spicy scenes stay behind closed doors… and honestly? I loved it! No explicit scenes needed to feel the chemistry because it really leaps off the pages!

🐾 Oh, and extra bonus points: there’s an adorable cat in the story!

✨ The moving-in scenes gave me such Friends vibes – love, laughter, friendship… everything you need! ✨
The title Elevate With Me? It takes on so much meaning in this story!

In short: a book full of humor, love, and new opportunities… I’m a fan! ❤️

ARC review ✨
4stars — Sweet, soft, and emotionally satisfying

Elevate With Me by Victoria Liiv is a heartwarming romance that delivers all the cutesy vibes a hopeless romantic could ask for. The characters felt real, the emotional journey was gentle but meaningful, and the chemistry? So good.

I really appreciated the way the story explored emotional vulnerability and fear of love in a soft, honest way. However, I did find myself wishing the main character gave him more of a chance to express himself — and that she stood up to her mother more directly. Those moments felt frustrating, but they also added depth to her character.

Overall, this was a lovely, comforting read. I’d recommend it to fans of soft romance, emotional healing, and anyone who’s ever wanted to be loved without having to earn it.

I received an ARC to review. I was very excited about this story and love the whole idea of Haylee and Luke's love story starting awkwardly on an elevator. Perfect meet cute set up with the FMC always a hot mess.

Unfortunately the story needs some revisions to make it come together as the perfect Rom-Com. The first awkward elevator encounter is lacking and I didn't feel the awkwardness or tension that really needs to be there to sell the entire book. The MMC comes off a little creepy and stalker-ish at times even knowing the FMCs past issues with men. The FMC'S name changing between Haylee and Hallie really doesn't make sense even though it's addressed by the best friend. I'd suggest sticking with one spelling and name.

I truly appreciated the opportunity with this ARC read and hope to see the characters really come to life in the final revised copy that's released.

It’s 3am and I didn’t even realize because I was so in love with the love in this story.
Haylee is a 25 year old Brit with overbearing parents, a phenomenal bestie, relationship trauma, and the a grouchy cat named Drixie. Luca is a 32 year old Italian-American working on a short term project with a knack for cooking, beating up multiple douchebags at a time, a beautiful family, and being the absolute best book boyfriend anyone could ask for.
Typically my romance novels look a bit more like a carnival with all of the red flags, but this is suuuuuch a feel good story! I absolutely ADORED it!

This was a cute read. Haylee has some trauma when dealing with relationships and men. Luca aka Luke is so sweet and absolutely into Haylee from the beginning. He seems to pick up on her cues when something makes her uncomfortable and stressed.

The best friend Glen is what Haylee needs in her corner to help her realized her worth and to push her into giving Luke a chance. I really dislike Haylee's mother, she is insufferable.

The diner scene was everything, how Luke stood up for Haylee. He truly just wants her to be happy and you really feel that from the pages.

This book gave me the weeping moments and the laugh out loud moments. I really hope that Glen's book is next…but also so maybe I can get a little more of Haylee and Luke! This is not a spicy book, there is some minor descriptions but any spicy times happens off the pages.

ARC review of Elevate With Me by Victoria Liiv
Release date: 7 July 2025

3.5⭐️ rounded up.
0🌶️

This was a cute short read. It was fast paced the banters?? Bang on from first chapter! Luke was charming and head over heels for Haley. While Haley tried to run away from the same feelings, she wasn’t very successful as Luke swept her off her feet. I liked them together, there was so much respect and desire and love between the two. Some parts I realised I was smiling 🥰🙈

I felt like I was looking for some more, I wish there was a bit more. Also, i wish the chapters were named from which POV it was with the cute chapter titles. Nevertheless, if you’re up for a quick cute read, try this one.

Thank you, Victoria Liiv, for gifting me this eARC. All opinions in this review are my own.

I just couldn’t vibe with this book at all. It’s not a bad book and there is nothing wrong with the writing style but it just wasn’t for me. I found the characters insufferable!
The FMC was really quite immature. She went through some trauma quite a while back but she still lets it control every aspect of her current life and doesn’t stop going on and on about it. Her mum isn’t very nice at all and treats her like a child but she also acts like one a lot of the times.
There was something about the MMC that gave me the ick. He seems really nice and seems to care about her but then he also goes behind her back and finds out about her trauma and doesn’t tell her that he knows. When he sniffed the kitchen stool she had been sat on after she left I was physically repulsed.

Okay, confession: I don’t usually reach for closed door romances, but I’m so glad I gave this one a chance because it was honestly the cutest little surprise!

Even without the open door scenes I usually lean toward, there were still some spicy little kissies and lead ups happening. The MMC had total green flag energy. He cooks for her, defends her, and takes care of her in all the right ways—without putting on pressure to take things further. Swoon.

The writing made it super easy to sink into, and the banter had me giggling out loud more than once. Their nicknames for each other were equal parts adorable and hilarious and I loved how his Nona chimed in on her nickname so cute!

This was the perfect palate cleanser between my darker, steamier reads. Light, feel good, and undeniably charming, Elevate With Me earns its 4 stars in every sweet, cozy way.

Elevate With Me is a great slow burn closed door romance.
It was such a gentle read, with some good giggles, and an absolute golden retriever of a man in Luca.

Haylee is full of anxiety when it comes to relationships and pretty much life in general. She doesn't trust herself to make good decisions for reasons that become obvious while reading.
Luca sees her in spite of her walls and gives her all the space and time she needs. I found this a really refreshing read to have this type of calm and fully open communication between 2 characters. Moments that would often cause a second act break up are dealt with and gotten through together. This dynamic just made it a great cosy feel good book, and I was able to relate to this type of relationship.

Thank you to Victoria Liiv for the ARC.

I really liked this one. The story was cute and easy to read. Haylee was shy and nervous, but very real and relatable. I understood her feelings and worries, and I was happy to see her slowly open up. Luke was sweet and caring, always trying to make Haylee feel safe.Their conversations and banter were fun and made me smile many times. The chemistry between them felt natural, with small moments of sweetness and gentle teasing.. The ending was satisfying and happy. Overall, it was a good feel-good romance, perfect when you want something tender but not heavy. I really enjoyed. Thank you so much to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.

۶ৎ This book is like a warm hug in story form — a slow, tender romance that explores what it means to be loved just as you are.
The emotional depth is quiet but powerful, and the chemistry? Soft, sweet, and sincere.

۶ৎ I loved how it handled fear, openness, and healing with honesty — no drama for drama’s sake, just real feelings and slow growth.
There were moments I wanted the heroine to give him more room to open up (and stand up to her mom!), but even that made her arc feel more real.

What an endearing read. A FMC with past dating trauma and current family baggage meets the MMC under concerning circumstances. She immediately writes him off, but he's persistent and works his way into her mind. He defends her honor. He cooks for her. She opens up and trusts him, pursues him even. The end left me wanting more, so I hope there are more books to come. What happens on the farm? Tell me more about her relationship with her parents. Does the roommate ever get a job? The start was oddly both fast and slow in the same, which was not my favorite, but the end of the book was well written. It's definitely a slow burn. I read this in about 4 hours.

Thanks for the ARC opportunity for the author. As always, this is an honest, voluntary review.

This was such a sweet closed door romance. Luca was endearing, mind you he had a bit of a stalkerish streak to him what I wasn't sure what to do with but it's fiction and he was charming so I just went with it. Haylee had a nice big baggage of trauma, a mother who infantilized her and acted like she was completely incapable of... life. I think the only thing that really frustrated me was that I hoped Haylee would grow on her own a bit what never really happened. Regardless, this was an incredibly cute story with cats, great best friends and an obsessive MMC what I had fun with.

The perfect summer holiday read!

I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC of this book to read and thoroughly enjoyed reading it sitting in the sunshine.

It’s such a sweet, romantic kind of story, it’s the perfect book to read on the beach or by the pool. So easy to read, loveable characters and lots of amusing moments. There’s references to some traumatic experiences and difficult family relationships, but these are sensitively handled and add depth to the characters.

I’m hoping a sequel will come - I want to know what happens next between the MMC & FMC! And I want more on the FMCs best friend too!
