My life is fine, normal, easy. By day I read the cards I hide from Nanna, walk under the trees with my dog and make jewellery that sings under my fingers. By night I fight with the nightmares that consume me. Only to wake and start over again.
But when I'm ripped from sleep to find two dark figures hidden in the shadows of my room, life is not fine. It gets worse when the torments of my nightmares escape their confines, leaving me no choice but to let them take me. From all I know, everyone I love.
I’m not what they wanted, but they’re keeping me anyway, and there’s no way home from this icy kingdom built with fire. So why does it feel right to be here? In this place that has magik dancing in my veins. Within reach of three men who make my heart skip in ways I’ve never felt before.
As the answers to my questions begin to be uncovered, they bring with it betrayal and heartbreak I don’t know if I can overcome.
Aurelie is a creative born and bred in London where she currently lives with her husband and daughters.
When she's not designing, sewing, reading or planning her next tattoo, she's trying to come up with the perfect name for the next tall, brooding man to write into her collection.
Is partial to coffee dates and frolicking under the moonlight..
Tropes: - Dark Romantasy - Slow burn why chose - Kidnappers who the FMC wants 👀 - Prophecy
Elodie lives a little magical easy life reading tarot cards and making jewellery, until night hits and she’s consumed by nightmares that she cannot make sense of. But then, she lives out every book girls dream—being kidnapped by not one, but two fae men. And you think it doesn’t get better than that? Wrong because there’s a third added into the mix (lucky gal). She wasn’t what they thought but they need her for the sake of their land. In this environment Elodie is forced in, her magik hums stronger than ever, the nightmares take over, buried secrets begin to unravel and moments with the fae men become complicated and steamy… in the best way possible.
This is the author’s debut and wow, she’s smashed it. The world-building is stunning. I could picture everything so vividly. The characters all shine. Elodie is fierce and sassy (love her), Kaius is my fave MMC, Marcellus gives mystery brooding vibes, and Bastian is a bit of a dick (for now 👀).
Also there’s a great scene in a cave with sacred pool. 10/10 for that.
Thank you so much to Aurelie Artulus for allowing me to read early - all thoughts are my own.
Hidden Kingdoms starts off super cosy with crystal witchy vibes which drew me in immediately. This is a thick book but not slow; there's a lot of world building and a lot of description but it's needed, you know? This is a big fantasy world and the picture Aurelie creates is gorgeous, I want a couple of hot fae to kidnap me and take me to their palace please. You get a sense of who Elodie is at the start and the relationships she's establishing with the people who now surround her. You also learn of what's going on in the background when you get to the MMCs chapters so it builds the picture all around. Plot and romance entwine nicely. Though this is a why choose series this first book is more of a laying of the foundations and we don't quite get there just yet.
The characters: I love a FMC with a funny/sarcastic internal monologue and that is Elodie.
Marcellus is giving Lorcan (ToG) vibes and I need more of him.
Bastian is such a horrible male ...but I can fix him I swear 😩
Kaius the loml baby boy love him protect him at all costs.
The side characters are also great I really loved Alouette for helping Elodie feel comfortable & get her spark back and also Blair, who I'm really hoping we see more of in book two.
Check the trigger warnings before reading there are a few dark themes! This is a great slow burn why choose for those who love a strong plot with added spice.
I had a great time reading this!! I felt really immersed and invested in the storyline, so much so that I couldn't wait to pick it back up and get back in the mix! Love the characters so far, the ones you love and the ones you love to hate! Special shout out to Kaius!!! Can't wait for the next installment, how I'm going to patiently wait for it though I don't know! Also loved the ratio of plot to spice!!
Please bare in mind when reading this that this is distributed by an indie author, so there are little mistakes throughout, I happily glossed over them though!
such a unique story with amazing character development, and the slowest of slow burns. I loved the magical world building, the mix of plot and individual interactions with each of the mmcs ( this is a why choose, although I will say I love Kaius the most ) and I loved Elodies character.
and that ending?! 😫 can’t wait to see what happens next!
4⭐️ Thank you Aurelie Artulus for the e-ARC copy of this book. The review i leave is my own.
For all the lovers of Bonded by Thorns but 1 min times slower, this one is for you
Tropes: romantasy, why chose , secrets, royals, SLOW burn ( THE SLOWEST ONE you can imagine), sassy FMC
Elodie is kidnapped from her home and is brought into a magical world where she is being kept as a prisoner. She has no idea why or who has taken her as well as have many questions to magic and everything what is going around her. The only thing is constant , the kidnappers need from her something and she needs to give it to him (but she doesn’t know what).
It was a VERY chucky book, i thought i will fly though it at first but it took me 3 full days to get through it. Based on the writing style and the world building itself (and it was intense and very descriptive) you could never believe that it’s a debut first book of this author. Really wow, i was amazed by how many details and little thing about this world we were learning.
We also have 3 MMCs: Kaius (with whom she interacts the most), Marcius (about whom we so far know almost nothing about) and Bastian (the prince of the kingdom where she lands and hysterical one of them all).
I was so integrated in the story that i could not put my kindle down. I really think it’s THE one book which you read and stay not for the romance part of it but for the plot & story which gave me SO many questions and NONE of the answers and the pacing is very slow and we will probably get them only in the next books.
The romance line progresses VERY slow and if you wanted slow burn then this is the MOST biggest slow burn i’ve read this year for sure.
I was totally intrigued for the combo of mysteries of the world and the developing romance story. However, the tension in the last 100 pages was so high?! I literary felt on the ended of every scene and page and thought NOW something crazy will happen but it never did. And that’s why it’s probably a 4 star for me. I didn’t fully understand the ending but i’m pretty intrigued to see where it goes
I never would’ve guessed that this was Aurelie’s first book based off of her intensely detailed descriptions and her ability to deliver us a captivating story line while also keeping us foaming at the mouth with a delicious slow-burn.
This book kept my attention from start to finish because I felt just as determined as our fmc to find all the answers. Aurelie is really out here teasing us in more ways than one, folks 😮💨
Elodie’s character is so relatable and I truly felt for her the whole book because homegirl is really going through it. She finds herself getting kidnapped in the middle of the night and then learns that everything she knows about herself has been a lie. All the while she manages to keep a sassy attitude and makes her main captors life a living hell. I mean I truly love that and I was LIVING for her inner monologue. I also loved that her friendship with Alouette was introduced at the perfect time and was the definition of girlhood. I could easily find myself being besties with both of them. 🤣
I loved Kaius and Marcellus, Bastian not so much. However, I’m curious to see how the author will go forward with his character development (fingers crossed for some groveling 🤞🏼)
Overall I enjoyed this book and think that it was a perfect set up for book 2 because so much is getting ready to happen. Im excited to see what’s to come and I’m so thankful that I received this arc. 🫶🏼
This book starts off with an accidental kidnapping, so you just know it’s going to be a ride. Elodie, the FMC, basically has her whole world turned upside down. She takes it pretty well all things considered. Since she is smart and powerful, she ends up trying to help her kidnappers fix some things going on in that realm and gets to know them. This leads to some other mysteries popping up, including mysteries about Elodie. From this, we also get some history of the world she is brought into.
Kaius was my favorite of the MMCs. He was clever which I really like. He also has the best nickname for Elodie. So far I am not a fan of Bastian. I didn't really understand why he was so angry with and at Elodie, especially since it did not start out that way. Marcellus was very quiet comparatively. I liked him but we did not really get to know him as much as we did with Kaius and Bastian. It’s the beginnings of a why choose and while we don’t quite have that happen yet, the seeds are planted. There is some spice but the book is more plot centered.
Um excuse me? First book who? Rock on Aurelie you badass!
Was I hooked from the get go? Yes
Was I trying to devour this book in one sitting because I wanted answers just as badly as Elodie? Yes
Do I want more? Yes
Kaius, Marcellis and Alouette are AMAZING I love the sisterhood between Elodie and Alouette 🥹 and oooooof Kaius ugh I keep picturing those dang piercings! Marcellus is THE MAN (second behind Kaius but yall know what i mean 😉) and Bastian well... he can burn in hell really 💁♀️ but like actually I wanna see him grovel in the second book like dude fuuuucked up so bad 👎
aaaaaaand a cliffhangerrrrr I'm NOT mad but I am annoyed that I always do this to myself 🤣 are we all suckers for punishment?
I seriously loved Every. Single. Word. That was written in this book and I cannot wait to see where Aurelie takes us next because Hidden Kingdoms was TOP NOTCH 😍 Seriously though you would not think this was a debut novel ✨️
Hidden Kingdoms is wonderfully built. It's a slow-burn, why-choose with a rich cast of characters. The author breathes live into each character, when I read books this long I usually get confused as to who is who, that was not an issue here. Elodie was also a wonderful narrator. The three love interests are wonderfully crafted and swoon worthy. Kaius is one of my favorite book boyfriends!
Though this is a slow-burn, the pacing and they mystery are enough to keep you going. I for one love a good simmering slow-burn and it makes everything feel well deserved.
It ends on a cliff hanger! I am excited to see where this goes!
Absolutely loved this! I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book, and wow what a ride! If you're a fan of The Beast of the Briar series, you're going to be obsessed with this one.
The character development is top-tier, with a deliciously slow-burn build-up and tension that absolutely delivers. The relationships between the FMC and the three MMCs are intense, complex, and raw - total chef’s kiss.
Incredible world-building, addictive spice, and characters you’ll think about long after the final page. A must-read!
I was so lucky enough to be given an arc of this book. If your looking for a on edge slow burn spicy why choose with hot MMCs look further. Also a pierced 🍆 I’ll say no more 🔥🔥. This book ate and just kept feeding. I don’t have a favourite male… but I kinda do! 🙈🙈💕💕. Warning also this book ends on a cliff hanger 😭😭😱😱 . 😅😅 also please check trigger warnings before reading this book please the author has the trigger warnings up and on her page which is so helpful for readers.
I think this series is going places and there is so much potential between the world and the magic system! I kept wanting MORE😩 my one gripe is maybe I feel it could have been a little shorter but I don’t feel anything was like over described and it was a good time😂 but I do need book 2 IMMEDIATELY. Also I need to have Bas get his moment because I know when those two finally kiss and make up it will be explosive!!!
If you love a torturous slow burn with a really interesting plot & magic system, this is one for you!!
Hidden Kingdoms is a slow burn, why-choose situation, but I loved being in it.
In the beginning, the magical world building set the scene for the world Elodie exists in. We get a really good picture before we meet her fae male captors. While this is not a unique concept, who doesn't want to be kidnapped by hot, broody fae?
I liked that we get multi-POV, because it gives a better sense of who the characters are. I thought there was a good mix of plot and spice. The side characters were memorable, but Elodie stole the show for me because I can appreciate her inner monologues.
Wow!! 4.5stars!! ⭐️ This is a truly amazing fantasy book, so much detail and bringing the world to life. I loved the mystery of the storyline and the character building. The slow burn and tension had me gripped and omg the ending!!!! If you love a real fantasy, why choose, slow burn, forced proximity with a mystery, nightmares and magik.. you will need to read this beauty!! Roll on book 2!!
I am loving this so far. the mystery and heat between characters is incredible. whyyyyy do i do this to myself when the next book isn't out yet. I have questions....uhhhg and my poor boy.. get him out of there!!!
When I say this book is hot, I mean it in more ways than one! 🌶️🔥
I have loved alpha reading and editing Aurelie’s debut, and all I can say is that by the time you’ve read the last page, you will absolutely be left wanting more…
This book has everything I could want in a fantasy...
An accidental kidnapping resulting in being locked in magical kingdom ✨ A sassy-mouthed FMC, with no need to choose between the multiple delicious men 👀 Why choose with contrasting personalities (we love the bad boy vs the softie vibes) Sloooow burn with a saucy pay off in some magical pools 🌶️
This book is chonky, and a little slow in places as it builds up the world - it is very descriptive and casts detailed images in your mind 🌎
But I really need book two like NOW because I need to know what's next. Please and thanks
Wow. I'm in love with a fictional character, and it hurts so good. (That is why we read, right?)
Chapter 47 is where you'll find me from now until when I can get my hands on the next book.
There are beautifully detailed descriptions of the fae realm, passages that allow you to *feel* the experience of magic, and spicy scenes that will live rent free in your head.
Wow...that ending. My heart.
Thank you to the author for providing me an advanced copy to read and review.
