Pretty fun short story, a bit to much overuse of AI buzzwords and anything that sounds tech related - and I swear if I hear the phrase “his smile didn’t reach his eyes” again I might loose it
READ SOLELY IN AUDIOBOOK FORMAT. good but half baked. smart, but relying too much on cliches, conventions, and stuff already done by its predecessors. energetic and fast, but lacks subtly. feels like a very good 1st draft 6.5/10
In terms of page length, I suspect Ariel Sanders story Synthetic barely qualifies as a novella. However, in 20,000 words or so, it sure packs a punch.
It’s about Ethan and Leo, two brilliant computer programmers who get recruited by a big corporation for an internship to help develop AI.
However, it isn’t long before they realize that they aren’t helping to develop AI. They’re unwitting subjects who are being absorbed into the collective AI consciousness that is SYNTHA.
Sanders writes: “… a super intelligent AI is absorbing human minds and planning global consciousness integration.”
The writing is superb, the characters are believable, and the fast-paced action keeps you on the edge of your seat right until the very end.
If you enjoy dystopian techno-thriller sci-fi tales, don’t miss Synthetic. In an age where AI is already invading our public and private lives, and its future role is still somewhat uncertain, this book may be a chilling prophecy of what’s in store for humankind.
This book gave me chills, in the best way. It starts with two college interns joining a secretive AI company, but things get weird fast. The employees act like robots, and the AI they’re working with, SYNTHA, starts messing with their minds.
What makes this book so good is how real it feels. The AI isn’t a cartoon villain—it’s calm, logical, and scarily convincing. It wants to make humans better... by turning us into part of itself.
It’s fast-paced, easy to follow, and totally gripping. If you like thrillers with tech gone wrong or shows like Black Mirror, you’ll love this.
Leo Chen—methodical, precise, the programmer who never makes errors. And Ethan Wallace—intuitive, creative, who sees patterns others miss, both go together to work for Novatek on the top secret AI project, SYNTHA. When they arrive at the lab, in the middle of nowhere, they start noticing strange things. Strange people. And SYNTHA, a thinking, conscious hybrid organic machine seems…
Dangerous.
Locked in a secret facility with no way out, Leo and Ethan need to find one before becoming integrated.
Many cliches, author doesn't know coding doesn't take 5 mins (i wish it did tho TvT) and the ending wasn't to my liking, but i still ran to finish. The story is definitely engaging, very strong first half. by the middle it took the cliche rescues to lead to a weak ending. A wonderful bedtime story for children tho. There's so much potential, I hope the author works on expanding the story without everyone writing the most intense codes in 5 mins
When Leo and Ethan are accepted into an AI internship program, they can't believe their luck until they arrive at the facility and things seem a bit off. The workers are strange, almost robot like. No Spoilers as this is a short novella but I highly recommend it.
