Why did she have to kiss me? I shouldn't have wanted it. Shouldn't have liked it. It ruined everything. Now she's gone, and I'm all alone. I miss her more than I care to admit. To make matters worse, I present as the one thing my parents despise—an Omega. They disowned me, calling me vial and worthless. Destined to be a wh*re. With nowhere else to go, I spent years at an Omega center. Now, it's time for me to go to Calling Wood. I'm supposed to meet my pack, and get my happily ever after. But I'm terrified. Growing up I was taught to believe being an omega was a pointless orientation . With the help of my new friend Maya, I start to believe that maybe being an Omega isn't as bad as I was told it was. It doesn't hurt that there are two Alphas who are beginning to win over my heart and are determined to show me everything I'm missing.
Yeeaaah... I wanted to like this one, I really did. It started off decently enough, but after the third time jump I started getting annoyed. How much of this thing is going to be fast forwarded? How much character development is happening off-page??
Well...
1 month - pg 34 "a few months" - pg 44 3 years - pg 53 (which is apparently also "Part Two", which is funny because there wasn't a Part 1) 2 weeks - pg 66 6 months - pg 74 3 years - pg 86 ("Part 3" lol)
Every time jump is followed by copious summarized *telling* of a slew of things that happened off-page. Like "Ooooh, Lulu has grown so much over the last three years." Um, okay, and as the reader we couldn't experience any of that with her because?
But that seems to be the trend, even when the author isn't fast forwarding through every single solitary stitch of story that might actually help us learn about the character(s). Most things seem to be told in reflections and past tense. How are we supposed to feel attachment to someone when the whole book awkwardly reads like a disjointed epilogue?
We don't even meet the two alphas from the blurb until nearly 75% into what is essentially a novella at barely 140 pgs. And then we're rushed through an instalust beginning (with more skipped time and paste tense bs), then boom... book is done. That's it?? Yikes.
Not only that, but I only met Ally briefly and I just flat out didn't like her, wasn't rooting for her, couldn't stand reading Lulu pine and obsess about her. What kind of shitty "best friend" completely abandons someone they claim to love after drunkenly threatening them with a sudden, life-altering ultimatum? Ally, who (assumedly) comes from a healthy, supportive family, knows full well that her friend has been traumatized... victimized by her family her whole life.
Even giving her grace and saying that she was young and people make mistakes, YEARS go by and not a peep. She abandoned Lulu and fucked off to be a star (and apparently sing songs about the heartbreak because, you know, what's better than kicking your best friend while they're down but profiting off your poor feefees being hurt).
Why would I have any interest in reading more about Ally or even Lulu for that matter?
But that's what happens when an author skips every opportunity to have the reader actually experience the characters and SHOW us their life while they're actually living it.
P.S. All those time jumps reminded me of a scene from Funny Farm where Chevy Chase makes his wife read his book draft. He's excitedly waiting for her feedback and she goes, "Well it’s all those flashbacks, you never know when anything’s taking place…there’s, in the first twenty pages alone I counted three flashbacks, one flash forward and I think on page eight you have a flash sideways!” Honestly, surprised this one didn't have a flash sideways. lmao

Conflicting Lyrics is the first story to kick off The Heartbreak Melody series and today is its release day! This novella is focussing on Lulu's story and her POV and is told over a time span of six years. Lulu's story is raw to the bone and gives you a true insight on her past and the trauma she escaped from her own family. Lulu did have a beautiful relationship with a girl named Ally, but it came to a heartbreaking end. I definitely would've loved to see more of that but I'm excited to read Ally's a story and see things from her point of view.
Once breaking free from her past life, she truly grows into the confident, feisty woman that is up for a challenge and definitely new experiences. She ends up meeting some twin alphas and needless to say they're the perfect match😏🤭 the spice in this book will have you completely melting🔥
Thank you Alisha for choosing me to be an ARC for this amazing novella and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!!
*Menage (MFM) *Contemporary *Omegaverse *FMC PoV only *Damaged Omega *Alpha Biker Twins *Mid Burn *Fast Pace *inc FF scene *novella *Book 1 / 3 Fiesty fun FMC with fractures 🙈 A quick blast of an intro that gives you a taste for how this trilogy will pan out! This novella focuses on LuLus story and so for this we only receive her PoV, it’s told over a time spans of six years or so and jumps in significant periods to give you a flavour of her development! In the beginner you learn of the awful upbringing she had and what’s made her question herself (check your CW’s) 😫 it cause her to push away her best friend and her bisexuality causing her to fracture and deny her self worth! Yet with the jumps in time you see her begin to become more confident, a fire cracker who will seek her omega needs 🥰but still has long standing trauma 😳 this doesn’t have the level of spice of a normal Williams book (only 1 detailed heat scene) but that fits with this being a novella introducing the story 👍 it becomes apparent that despite trying ti push them away her burly biker alpha twins are determined to woo her! Will be interesting to see how that weaves into the anticipated story 😁
Read if you like: Omegaverse Twin Biker Alphas Calling Wood University Surprise Heat Overcoming Past Trauma Omega w/ Trust Issues Omega Player 😉 Prequel Novella
I need a Lucy and Ally reunion NOW!! I can’t wait for Ally’s novella and their full story.
I loved seeing Lulu come out of her shell and figure out who she is without rules and punishments. Her transformation was so fun to read. I love her sassy comebacks outgoing personality.
We only got a glimpse into her and I’m already OBSESSED.
Hooked from beginning to end I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her.
Also I need Mayas story please and thank you 😊
This wait is going to be a form of torture but so worth it I can already tell!
alisha has made this series concept SO DAMN INTERESTING!! & i honestly can't wait for more!! she always has the best omegaverse & she does bi rep for both male and female SO FUCKING WELL!! like we finally get the justice we deserve being TOTAL HOES!! im so excited!!
Book ends on a little cliffhanger type which brings us to allys pov so a heads up. But man my poor Lulu and all the crazy things she had to endure with her family. But her Alphas Brady & Gavin I can already see how that’s gonna go. Can’t wait for book 2!
Lulu and her history was not what I was expecting when I first heard about these books coming out. Her sense of humor was perfect, it had me wanting to have her as a friend by the end of it. Lol
There is not a lot of spice though this one, but reading about her overcoming her struggles to get where she was today made for a good read and it would have been off if there was more spice. It's a great build up of what's to come in the final book.
The story flowed well and was easy to follow with the time jumps. Adding in other characters we have already read about is always something I enjoy in a book. Would definitely recommend.
A great start to this trilogy. Heartbreak Melody #1 by Alisha Williams. An intense book so be sure to read TW before embarking on this journey! This first book is by one MFC POV and as Lulu lets the love of her life walk away, too frightened to go against her overbearing parents, she soon realises it was the biggest mistake of her life. As Lulu realises she has to escape her over zealot parents and learn to re build her life from the ruin her parents had left her in, she decides to move cities and get away from where her abuse started and to make sure her parents never find her. Landing in another city and being offered a place in an Omega centre, Lulu rebuilds her life one day at a time. Showing a strength that belies what her trauma had left her feeling. She knew she had to change completely who she portrayed herself as. Missing her BFF, Ally every day, she knew she could not inflict her chaos onto her and left her to build her career without having Lulu by her side. Lulu became very resilient, and she shines through as a strong MFC who continued to survive as an Omega. Keeping to herself she uses the option of Alpha packs to help her with her heats and does not want to find her scent matches. She refuses to be controlled by anyone again! BUT all well laid plans have the option of not working out and when Lulu meets twin brothers Gavin and Brady, her life changes. But doubting her choices and whether she deserves happiness after she let Ally go and broke her heart in the process, she walks away from the one good thing that has happened to her in a long time. But do "her" Alphas think her decision is the right one? The 1st instalment in this ongoing trilogy ends in a HFN! And I definitely need to read Ally's POV in #2 Broken Harmony!
✨🐺 Conflicting Lyrics by Alisha Williams ✨ 📖 Releasing July 31, 2025 | Calling Wood Universe
“She kissed me. And everything I thought I knew about myself unraveled.”
💔 Omega shame. 💌 Found family vibes. 🔥 Twin Alphas with soft hearts & biker jackets. 🌕 Omegaverse prequel magic.
This novella dives into Lulu’s past and gives us the raw, emotional backstory we’ve been craving. From the heartbreak of being disowned for her designation, to her first tentative steps toward friendship with Maya (yes THAT Maya!) and opening her guarded heart to two swoony Alphas—this is fast-paced, emotional, and utterly satisfying.
🌟 What I loved: 🐾 Watching Lulu’s growth from self-loathing to slowly believing she’s worthy of love. 🐾 The hints of Ally woven through (OMG the angst). 🐾 Twin Alpha energy = gentle but protective (the tension is EVERYTHING). 🐾 A perfect bridge between Knot Going Anywhere and what’s coming next.
This isn’t heavy on spice (though there’s one scene that absolutely delivers 🔥), but it’s packed with heart, healing, and setups for what’s next in the Calling Wood Universe.
🖤 If you love omegaverse, emotional novellas, and prequels that make you desperate for the full story, grab this on release day!
✨ Next up: Ally’s prequel novella before the full-length book. I’m not ready for the heartbreak she’s going to bring 😭
Whenever Alisha Williams puts out a new book, I’m that person that has to stop what I’m doing to read it. She never disappoints me in her writing and that is why she is my absolute favorite omegaverse author. No one can tell me otherwise.
The relationship in the beginning with Ally and Lulu was super beautiful and I about cried when it came to a halting ending.
I loved the way that Lulu came from this shy girl into this confident woman after everything she had been through. I was not expecting to fall in love with the many characters that we get in Lulu’s journey and my, what a beautiful way it was written.
I absolutely love the two alphas she meets and even their sister. This first part of this trilogy was everything I wanted and didn’t know that I needed!
I loved her sassy attitude and I know it’s only going to get better. The spice scenes was definitely beautiful and how they treated her during her heat was perfect. The ending of the story was super beautiful.
I cannot wait for Ally’s book as I wonder how these two packs come together and why!
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I read Maya’s first so getting Lulu’s now is absolutely insane to me. Lulu is such a completely different person in the beginning of this book than she is when we meet Maya.
Also during Maya’s book, I believe Lulu was graduated for a few years. So it’s making me wonder how much of a gap it’s gonna be before her and Ally are reunited for the first time in years.
I hope we don’t see any of Lulu‘s past but I have a feeling that’s not gonna happen. I feel like it’s more than likely that we’re gonna get someone cropping up from the past trying to ruin her life. I also have a feeling that it’s gonna be Karen or Bret.
I honestly can’t wait to read Ally’s book next
Before going into the know that Lulu’s is very heavily religious, bigoted, homophobic, and just downright absolutely diabolical and terrible. Their church is the same way as well, even though we barely scratched the surface with them.
I honestly can’t wait to get the final book either
This was a great novella! Fast paced with lots of background info into Lulu’s past. It was great to see how Lulu and Maya (Knot Going Anywhere) met and how their friendship blossomed. There’s not much spice but when she finally meets her twin Alphas and has fun? Delicious 🔥
It takes place a bit before her Omega designation comes in and the fall out of that and then her first getting to the Omega Center. Then it jumps to when she’s leaving for the Calling Wood University and a bit of her time there. Then it jumps again to her nearing the end of her time at Calling Wood. She’s finally ready for something more…. Maybe… but she still can’t stop thinking of Ally. Is she ready to put how she feels for her to rest? Or will she let these two beautiful twin bikers give her something she’s not quite sure she deserves.
Next up is Ally’s prequel novella before we get the full length book!!! Can’t wait!!
I loved Lulu after meeting her in Knot Going Anywhere as Maya's feisty best friend and have been looking forward to her story. This is a short novella but packs in plenty and Lulu's journey just made me love her more. I'm not the biggest fan of Ally currently after the way she lashed out at Lulu. I appreciate Ally was hurt but I'm hoping for some grovelling when she realises what Lulu went through although something tells me Ally's novella won't have been all plain sailing either. It definitely gave me Silver Valley vibes though which is my favourite Williams series; I'm ready for Ally's story to see how they are going to cross paths again!
My interpretation of the star system; 3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again 4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series 5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
Oh my goodness, I just love Lulu! Loved her in Knot Going Anywhere and so glad she has her own book. Just want to let know this is why choose and a hint of FF in this one.
Lulu had a bad upbringing with crazy parents who thought and taught her some horrible things in the name of the church they followed. She was starting to believe it all until she met Ally. Ally is her best friend but then something happens between them and all things go horrible.
I loved seeing Lulu become the sassy person she is and knows what she wants. She ends up making a friend and just having fun and not wanting to tie herself down to a pack.
But what happens when she meets twin bikers and she feels drawn to them? Will she give in? Also, what will happen with the one that got away? I cannot wait for the next book, Ally's POV, because I love Lulu and know need more POVs to find out more! Great book! Silver Valley University is a favorite of mine and reading what this was about made me want to read too!
Enjoyed this one a lot. The FMC has been through A LOT. I loved her growth through the book. Because of everything that she went through in her past it was amazing seeing her living her life the way she wants. Without letting anyone run it for her or seeing her being so sure of herself and not afraid of speaking her mind.
She met two men that she had really good chemistry with. They are the men she needs and deserves not only are they gonna protect her against anything that could cause her harm but they are so down bad for her they gonna treat her like a princess. She had good chemistry with them since they met. I can't wait for the rest of the books bc I need more of them together.
I dont even want to talk about who could have been her other love interest 🥲. Its been days since I read this and it still makes me sad. Those two deserve so much more. I can't wait to see how they come together and what the rest of their journey will be like.
I wasn't sure how this was going to play out with getting backstory on Lulu and Ally before getting to the full story where they come back together. But I really liked this prequel-esque style. I admire Lulu and her strength to rebuild after the devastation that befell her, but unlike many others I saw in their reviews, I also felt terrible for Ally. Without even hearing her side yet, I know she had to be going through a lot herself to run away. She'd been hearing from Lulu's parents about how she and her family were abominations. They wouldn't let them see each other as friends because they felt she was a bad influence. And she thought Lulu didn't feel the same when she hesitated. I don't think Ally was being cruel; I think she went into self preservation mode. So for me, I'm excited to get her backstory next. I also can't wait for Lulu and Ally to come together again. They are meant to be. <3
Listen, I’m an Alisha Williams stan so I go in knowing I’m going to love the newest book/series and this is no different. I feel like I say this about Alisha’s writing all the time but she writes in a way that’s easy to read and literally by they you’re done you don’t realize you’ve read 500 pages 😂 (this is a novella so under 150 pages).
In this novella and we get to meet Lulu and Ally, who are best friends. Lulu’s family is a bit coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs and are a part of a cult. Ally tries to help Lulu realize that she’s a part of a cult and by the time she does it’s too late for them. There’s lots of feelings and love between the two of them but things are aren’t all sunshine and rainbows.
This baby gave me all the feels, set me up for heartbreak, made me hate a few parents, and gave me hope for a future. There’s lots of growth and healing. And I can’t fucking wait for the next novella and the full length for this series!
One of my favorite things about Alisha writing is how she eases you into the story and you legit can’t put the book down. I wasn’t sure what to expect with Conflicting Lyrics, but I want more…. NOW! 😂
Lulu and Ally are best friends that have big plans for their future and end up sharing a special moment together. Unfortunately, it all comes crumbling down when Lulu’s parents find out the truth. Lulu is forced to endure horrific abuse (not described in depth, but one can assume) while a huge piece of her heart missing.
When she finally gets way from her horrors, she’s living the life she desperately deserves. A new location, new friends and a redo. One day, she has a met cute with two biker twin brothers that see how truly special she is and want to give her the world but can’t she learn to love and trust again?
Anything that is Alisha Williams is ♾️ stars for me and this book is no exception!
Alisha has this magic in her writing—effortless, immersive, and before you know it, you’ve devoured the entire thing.
In this story, we meet Lulu and Ally—ride-or-die best friends tangled in something far deeper than teenage rebellion. Lulu’s family? Unhinged and deep in a cult. Ally? Doing her best to pull Lulu out before it’s too late. But by the time the truth hits, the damage is already done.
This book gave me all the feels—heartbreak, rage (especially at some truly awful parents), a tender kind of love, and the raw ache of hope. It’s a story about friendship, trauma, healing, and choosing your own path, even when it hurts.
I’m already counting down the days for the next novella—and the full-length novel. This series is going to ruin me in the best way.
This story blends a touch of darkness with a heartwarming journey of love and self-discovery. It opens with painful family dynamics, betrayal from a friend, and heartbreak that shapes Lulu’s quiet, guarded world. But out of that darkness comes strength—the kind only a resilient Omega can find.
Lulu is such a lovable character. Watching her growth from a reserved, mistreated Omega into someone who finally embraces her true self is incredibly satisfying. She learns to find joy, confidence, and belonging on her own terms. And when a set of Alphas enters her life—ones who might just be her pack—you can’t help but root for her every step of the way.
It’s a sweet, emotional story with just enough edge to keep things interesting, and it left me smiling by the end.
Oh man, my heart broke for Lulu in this one. She’s been raised in a very conservative cult-like church, with very strict and over bearing parents. She’s never been allowed to take a step out of line, and was raised believing alphas and omegas are bad. Only betas are good. She meets Ally in 4th grade, and slowly realizes everything she knows is wrong. Fast forward to the end of senior year, Ally and Lulu have a falling out, Lulu presents as an omega and is locked up in her parents’ house while the cult tries to ‘fix’ her. She escapes and makes a life of her own. She ends up at Calling Wood, but she’s never moved on from her first love. I cannot wait for Ally’s story, and then the full final book with both omegas.
I devoured Conflicting Lyrics a prequel novella in one sitting. My heart breaks for Lulu and all her trauma with her parents. She’s so sweet. Deserves the world. I love how she became a strong independent woman despite all her trauma. I also love her hot biker guys.
After reading Lulu’s novella I now need Ally’s story. I’m so excited for her book Broken Harmony which is also a prequel novella to come and than Rhythm Of Our Souls with both of them and their men together in that book. My heart needs Lulu and Ally to repair their relationship.
I love Alisha Williams books. Each time I read her book I’m completely hooked beginning to end. I’m so glad the wait between each book in the Heartbreak Melody series is not a long wait. So excited for book 2!!!
Book 1 of the Heartbreak Melody series by Alisha Williams, is all about Lulu. Her heartbreak at loosing love, her growth and discovering love in friends and more. Originally meeting Lulu in Knot Going Anywhere, also by Alisha Williams, I was keen to know her story, how she became friends with Maya and meeting her pack. Conflicting Lyrics gave me those answers but left me with more questions which will no doubt be answered in Books 2 & 3 of this series. This was a great start to this series, with a good storyline that is engaging and easy to read. With wonderful, sweet characters, villains to despise and hope for a happy ending, this novella is a wonderful addition to any TBR list.
"This series as a whole is about two childhood female best friends who have a falling out and find one another later in life. Their packs join together to form one."
I cannot wait for the other two books! Thankfully their release dates are each only a few weeks out.
This one plucked my heartstrings with the two FMCs having their falling out (which was dumb on Ally's part, ngl, but they were both young). I liked that we saw Lulu grow up and out of the conditioning of her parents, and that she grew friendships and a personality at Calling Wood. I've read most of the books set in the Calling Wood world, so it was familiar.
The stuff with the MMCs was a little too insta-lovey, even for me, but it was a short story so I'll forgive it.
I really loved getting to know Lulu and her mates in this one, but also getting to know some of her back story. It made it all that more interesting to read! I like that the story flowed well and it was easy to read. I like the time jumps to because it helped to know more about what happened with Lulu in the past.
This one was definitely emotional, especially to see how much growth Lulu has done to be where she is.i loved getting to know Lulu’s mates as well. I’m really excited to read Ally’s pov and learn more about her side of the story.
Overall, this book was a good short read. I can’t wait for part two to see where the journey takes us. I recommend if you love omegaverse! This one was good!
So this is book one in the series and while it doesn't end on a cliffhanger per se, it does imply that this will not be standalone.
Omegaverse = one h (so far) and 2 Hs...h is in love with her bff (possible h2) but freaked out and rejected bff when h was drunk which she almost immediately wanted to rescind but the bff had run off. Then h's psycho parents essentially locked her up and h had to escape and run away. The book ends six years after the bff rejection and the h has found the 2 Hs. They have not bonded but have gone through a heat together. End with the Hs enrolling at her school to be close and knowing the h loves the bff.
Not sure whose book is next, but the story will continue.
This was a fantastic start to the Heartbreak Melody series! It was a fast, easy read that pulled me in right away.
I loved getting to know Lulu’s backstory-she’s a totally awesome, no-f**ks-given omega. And Maya, the shy indie book author bestie, was such a fun contrast. She was just along for Lulu’s wild ride through life, and I loved every second of it!
I can’t wait for the next book to see Ally’s side of the story and find out what she’s been up to over the past decade.
I'm also so ready to meet the rest of the crew—I already love the twin biker alphas!
This book was devoured in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down
I am a huge fan of AW. She is amazing at everything she writes, but her OV books are fabulous. Her Calling Wood universe is something Im always gonna love.
This was a great start to what I feel like is going to be an epic story. I loved all the cameos and mentioned characters from other books.
I was sad and heartbroken over what LuLu went through and how her fear kept her from the love of her life, her soulmate but was really happy she came out on top and has really allowed herself to live the life she's wanted her whole life. I can't wait for Ally's story and then their story together.
I really enjoyed the start into this new part of the Calling Wood world by Williams. In a short novella, she's already set up so many emotions, a little bit of angst, thrown in a heat scene and left me on the edge of my seat, waiting for Ally's POV novella and the full-length novel to come.
There's just enough scattered through these pages to keep you hooked, without giving all of the information from the get-go.
Lulu is such a strong character; her past is full of heartbreak and emotion, and it makes you glad she was able to escape, even if she lost the most important person to her along the way. She builds herself back up with the help of two amazing friends, and takes a chance on two biker Alpha's (need I say more?) to leave us on a semi-cliffhanger.
I'm so eager for Ally's POV, and to see where Williams takes this story once they inevitably meet once more. An easily devourable novella, this has set up the Heartbreak Melody world wonderfully, and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.
Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.
