I don't really know what to say about this book! I absolutely adored the first in the series and looked forward to this one but it didn't grab me as much as the first one did.
I like Pixie, the main character and Ulysses her friend, even though we don't spend much time with him. He's a sort of bodyguard for Pixie when she goes into a trance.
The plot of the story grabbed me initially, as I love anything to do with the Gilded Age but there wasn't enough of it for me. I thought we'd spend a lot longer in Gilded Age New York. There were also a lot of unlikable characters and I find it hard to engage with a story when there are too many of them.
We begin in modern day New York where the reason for Pixie's summons becomes apparent. This part dragged and it took too long for the real story to get going. Also Pixie's past love life seemed to become the focus of the story which I wasn't expecting. As the story came to it's conclusion lots of things surprised me.
I found this one of the most difficult books I've read to review but I will read the next in the series to see everything tied up.

This is part two of two so far in the Timeslider Series. Although it was a good read, I must say that I enjoyed book one, Shadows in the Moonlight, just a bit more.
In this instalment, Pixie Tate embarks on a journey to New York. Despite her hatred for flying, she has no choice in her mind as the alternative is to face her mother and their estranged relationship.
The reason for Pixie’s trip is the Aldershoff Hotel in Manhattan. This hotel was once the former home of Miss Aldershoff, she is a woman in her late 90’s nearly who is still a formidable and unpleasant character. The Aldershoff family, known for their materialism and love of spending, had lost all their wealth, leading to the sale of their home and its transformation into this beautiful hotel. The owner has preserved many of its original features.
Miss Aldershoff prances around the hotel as if she owns it. She knows that her family owns a precious stone, which would have been passed down to her if she had been born a boy. Her father hid the stone, and she finds the key. Determined to find it, she decides to hold a seance, which unleashes a spirit that wreaks havoc in the hotel room. She is unrepentant.
This is where Pixie comes in. She is a time slider, and she is transported to the Titanic. When she time slides in the present, it could be hours, but in the past, it equates to days. Pixie must be mindful of the law of attraction and avoid changing things in the past, as even the slightest alteration could have a profound impact.
During her time in the past, Pixie crosses paths with someone she is in love with from the past. When she time slides, she inhabits the body of someone else. Will this person see past her new appearance? Will she find the precious gem? What secrets will be discovered?

In de boeken van Santa Montefiore komt er wel vaker iets paranormaals in voor maar met de serie rond Pixie Tate gaat ze nog wat verder. Pixie kan tijdglijden. Dat wil zeggen dat ze het lichaam van iemand kan overnemen in een andere tijd en op die manier dingen kan te weten komen. Het eerste deel was voor mij echt een schot in de roos.
Het verhaal speelt zich af op een heel interessante locatie waar ik ook graag over lees. Maar het beeldende rond die locatie ontbrak voor mij een beetje. Hoewel het wel speciaal was dat Pixie erbij was en uiteraard al wist hoe het zou aflopen.
Buiten dit puntje heb ik wel enkele fijne leesuurtjes gehad met dit boek en desondanks wil ik zeker het derde deel van de trilogie ook kog lezen.
In het verhaal gaat Pixie deze keer naar New York. Alma Aldershoff heeft daar de geest van Lester Ravenglass bevrijd en die heeft nadien allerlei schade toegebracht aan hotel Aldershoff. De eigenaar van het hotel staat sceptisch tegenover die geest maar hoopt toch dat Pixie iets voor hem kan betekenen. Pixie keert terug in de tijd in de gedaante van Constance Fleet, de tante van Lester. Maar waar ze niet op voorbereid is, is dat Cavell, de man waarop ze bij haar vorige tijdreis verliefd werd, ook aanwezig is.
Pixie Tate is een heel tof personage. Ze heeft speciale looks die mensen misschien eerst wat kan afschrikken maar toch slaagt ze erin om de mensen haar vertrouwen te laten geven. En ondanks haar eigen persoonlijkheid kan ze zich met weinig moeite inleven in de gedragingen van vrouwen in een andere tijd. Al schemert er ook steeds wel een beetje “Pixie” in door. Dat merkt ook Cavell op.
Voor wie het tijdglijden een vreemd begrip is, ik vind het best wel interessant en het is een instrument om op die manier het verhaal in het verleden van dichtbij mee te maken.
De geheimen van de zee is een vlotte en mysterieuze historische roman met paranormale elementen en een goede dosis spanning, maar het eerste deel stak er wel nog bovenuit. Ik kijk heel erg uit naar het derde deel!

I actually loved this book SO much I emailed Sante Montefiore to thank her and had a lovely reply. Had to give it 5 stars! I was absolutely hooked by the first book in the trilogy and couldn’t wait for the second. It came and I read it straight through and it didn’t really touch me at all compared to the first. Can’t explain why. A few days later I decided I would read it again. It was extraordinary as the second time of reading it really got to me, so much so I may yet read it again! Incredible! I now can’t wait for the third book in the series but we have to wait till July 2026!

I have been waiting for this book and it was truly worth waiting for. I loved the characters and the story and I cannot wait for the final book in the series. Santa is brilliant and I have loved everyone of her books.

Santa Montefiore is an amazing author who, in my opinion, is not celebrated or well known enough in the US, and it is a damn shame!!!!!!! I discovered her books years ago and have enjoyed each one so much, and I look forward to every single one impatiently. This author is a master of genres and a beautiful writer. her love stories are to die for, but her other books are just as delicious and entertaining as well. I need to stop gushing, If you haven't read her books, jump to it, people!!!!! Trust me, you will thank me

Ik ben gek op Pixie Tate. Wat een heerlijke meid is zij. Pixie noemt zich zelf een tijdglijder. Zij kan door de tijd glijden en ergens langs de tijdlijn het lichaam van iemand overnemen en observeren wat er in die tijd is gebeurt. Zij doet dit als er ergens een geest op duikt die blijkbaar te onrustig is om door te gaan, naar het licht zoals Pixie het noemt. Dit is het tweede deel van de trilogie en ik hoop dat deel 3 snel komt.
In dit deel wordt Pixie en haar begeleider Ulysses Lozano gevraagd door de eigenaar van een luxe hotel in New York. Het hotel is vroeger een riant woonhuis geweest van de familie Aldershoff. Alma Aldershoff heeft er zelfs nog gewoond tot ze 15 was en ze is nu diep in de negentig. Zij heeft samen met haar dochter en een paar vriendinnen een ruimte besproken om met een ouijabord op zoek te gaan naar informatie over een diamant die haar vader ergens heeft verstopt. Zij heeft het geld hard nodig want de familie is door een van de voorvaders een hoop geld verloren. Maar helaas meld haar vader zich niet, maar wel die voorvader, Lester. En Lester gaat helemaal los in de ruimte waar ze zitten. De dames vluchten en de salon is een gigantische puinhoop. Als de geest van Lester niet weg wil maar blijft verschijnen om de gasten de stuipen op het lijf te jagen. En dan wordt Pixie opgeroepen en zij moet op zoek naar wat Lester heeft gedaan in het verleden om zo kwaad in het hotel te blijven.
Zij gaat via tijdglijden terug naar 1911. En komt daar in het lichaam van Constance Fleet terecht die op het punt staat om haar neef Lester te begeleiden van Londen naar New York waar hij op bezoek gaat bij zijn verloofde. Ze reizen met de Titanic, dus daar zeg ik verder niets meer over want we weten allemaal hoe dat afloopt. Zij komt in ieder geval wel in een reddingsboot terecht. Want alle belangrijke personen komen allemaal in New York inclusief Cavill Pengower, de grote liefde van Pixie die zij in het eerste deel van de serie tijdens een zaak heeft leren kennen. This is the second book in a time slider trilogy, however the book can be read on its own. In looking for a family diamond to do something good in her life Alma releases a spirit. Pixie is called in to help the spirit through the passage of time. This read has a story within a story and is packed with twists that will keep you guessing to the end. Fabulous.

Ik ben helemaal weg van Pixie Tate – zo’n mooi en krachtig personage. Je leeft helemaal met haar mee. Net als in deel 1, voelt het echt alsof je met haar dit verhaal samen beleefd.
Het verhaal is intens en meeslepend, maar ook zó fijn geschreven: zacht, diepzinnig en vol betekenis. Sommige zinnen moest ik gewoon even laten bezinken. Er zitten quotes in die je raken. Zeker als je een beetje spiritueel bent of er voor open staat is dit zeker iets voor jou.

I can’t express how much I loved reading this second book in the Time-slider series. The writing flows from one page to the other with so much ease, the plot becomes more and more intriguing. I adore the characters that Santa creates and has created, they bounce off each with ease and tenderness. The theme of time travel plays an important role in this story: as does the first one and Santa writes and structures it down perfectly.
This book is filled with so much love, laughter and trust. And I can’t wait to see where Santa takes us next.

Book 2 did not disappoint! I really enjoyed her timeslip journey back to 1912, the fateful year of the Titanic, also that she met once again, the love of her life. Nicely finished to set up for the next book in the series.

Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the new characters, and the pacing didn't help (it was way too slow for me to get into the story).
For a sec, I thought this book wouldn't be as good as the first, but then the new story kicked in and I was hooked. Once I got used to what was happening, every new twist kept me going, and I practically devoured the time travel part in one sitting.
I'm so excited to see how the third book ends everything. Will they get back together? Or will it be a sad ending, and how?

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first in the series. I would really have given 3.5 stars. It took me a long time to get through it. I did like the section on the titanic. It ended with a lead up to another in the series so I will listen to that and hope that I enjoy it more.

In Geheimen van de zee, het tweede deel van de Tijdglijder-trilogie van Santa Montefiore, duiken we opnieuw in het betoverende universum van Pixie Tate. Het verhaal opent in het chique Aldershoff Hotel in New York, in het jaar 2014. De inmiddels 97-jarige Alma Aldershoff verzamelt haar dochter en twee vriendinnen om zich heen voor een spirituele seance met een ouijabord, in de hoop contact te leggen met haar overleden vader. Ze wil eindelijk het mysterie ontrafelen van de verdwenen Potekim-diamant. Maar in plaats van antwoorden, wekken ze iets veel duisterders op: de geest van Lester Ravenglass, haar ex-schoonbroer, die razend tekeergaat en vervolgens blijft rondwaren in het hotel.
De hoteleigenaar, Henry Stirling, is doodsbang dat deze paranormale aanwezigheid zijn klanten zal wegjagen en roept daarom de hulp in van Pixie Tate. Als ervaren tijdreiziger én gevoelig medium besluit Pixie niet alleen om de geest te verdrijven, maar vooral ook te achterhalen waarom Lester zo woest is. Haar zoektocht voert haar terug in de tijd, naar de beruchte reis van de Titanic in 1912.
Net als in het eerste deel (Schaduwen van de tijd) was ik meteen gegrepen door het avontuurlijke en magisch-realistische verhaal. Ik keek reikhalzend uit naar een nieuw weerzien tussen Pixie en Cavill Pengower. Santa Montefiore speelt hier op intrigerende wijze met herkenning en identiteit: wat gebeurt er als je iemand herkent, maar in een ander lichaam? Zou de ziel sterker zijn dan het fysieke omhulsel?
Wat de schrijfster als geen ander kan, is het tot leven brengen van een tijdperk. Haar beschrijvingen van het leven aan boord van de Titanic zijn rijk en beeldend. Je ziet de vrouwen voor je, met hun versierde hoeden en kanten parasols, en de mannen in hun gesteven overhemden en glanzende schoenen. De sfeer van de belle époque wordt tastbaar gemaakt, zonder dat het ooit zwaar aanvoelt.
De schrijfstijl van Montefiore is soepel en toegankelijk. Ze gebruikt regelmatig zintuiglijke details en fraaie metaforen – zoals "De zon koestert haar bleke gezicht" – die het verhaal een poëtische toets geven zonder te overdrijven. De dialogen zijn natuurlijk en de scènes vloeien mooi in elkaar over, waardoor je als lezer moeiteloos meegezogen wordt in de tijdreis en de geheimen die zich stukje bij beetje ontvouwen.
Geheimen van de zee is een warme, meeslepende roman vol mysterie, romantiek en melancholie. Het boek biedt zowel spanning als troost, en zet aan tot nadenken over verlies, liefde en hoe het verleden het heden kan vormgeven. Ik kijk alvast uit naar het derde deel van deze bijzondere trilogie.
De hoteleigenaar, Henry Stirling, is doodsbang dat deze paranormale aanwezigheid zijn klanten zal wegjagen en roept daarom de hulp in van Pixie Tate. Als ervaren tijdreiziger én gevoelig medium besluit Pixie niet alleen om de geest te verdrijven, maar vooral ook te achterhalen waarom Lester zo woest is. Haar zoektocht voert haar terug in de tijd, naar de beruchte reis van de Titanic in 1912.
Net als in het eerste deel (Schaduwen van de tijd) was ik meteen gegrepen door het avontuurlijke en magisch-realistische verhaal. Ik keek reikhalzend uit naar een nieuw weerzien tussen Pixie en Cavill Pengower. Santa Montefiore speelt hier op intrigerende wijze met herkenning en identiteit: wat gebeurt er als je iemand herkent, maar in een ander lichaam? Zou de ziel sterker zijn dan het fysieke omhulsel?
Wat de schrijfster als geen ander kan, is het tot leven brengen van een tijdperk. Haar beschrijvingen van het leven aan boord van de Titanic zijn rijk en beeldend. Je ziet de vrouwen voor je, met hun versierde hoeden en kanten parasols, en de mannen in hun gesteven overhemden en glanzende schoenen. De sfeer van de belle époque wordt tastbaar gemaakt, zonder dat het ooit zwaar aanvoelt.
De schrijfstijl van Montefiore is soepel en toegankelijk. Ze gebruikt regelmatig zintuiglijke details en fraaie metaforen – zoals "De zon koestert haar bleke gezicht" – die het verhaal een poëtische toets geven zonder te overdrijven. De dialogen zijn natuurlijk en de scènes vloeien mooi in elkaar over, waardoor je als lezer moeiteloos meegezogen wordt in de tijdreis en de geheimen die zich stukje bij beetje ontvouwen.

Een seance door de voormalige bewoonster van Hotel Aldershoff loopt uit de hand. Een kwade geest komt vrij en maakt het zich al te bont in het hotel . Hij weigert zich te laten afschrikken door de eerste de beste medium en in allerijl wordt Pixie overgevlogen naar het hotel om komaf te maken met ronddolende ziel.
Ondertussen verlangt Pixie nog steeds hartstochtelijke naar Cavill. Een man die ze tijdens haar vorige opdracht leerde kennen in het verleden. Een man die ze denkt nooit meer te zien. Maar het zal blijken dat het universum daar anders zal over beslissen.
Het eerste deel van de Pixie Tate reeks was mij zo goed bevallen waardoor de lat voor dit tweede deel van in begin al wat hoger lag. Een duidelijke misrekening van mij, want na het lezen van De geheimen van de zee ben ik toch lichtjes teleurgesteld.
Doorheen het verhaal wordt je meegenomen in het verleden, deze keer naar de Titanic. Meer ga ik hierover niet prijsgeven, omdat de kans om te spoileren dan te groot wordt. Maar iedereen kent de Titanic en de verhalen daar rond. Jammer vond ik dat Montefiore hier niet verder mee aan de slag ging, maar geweten anekdotes over het zinkende schip klakkeloos overnam. Ik had liever wat extra input in dat stukje van het verhaal teruggezien.
Op een zeker moment lees je als lezer mee in een dagboek dat in een handschrift geschreven is. Het geeft uiteraard wel wat extra, dat handgeschreven geschrift, maar handig lezen is het niet. Zeker naarmate de avond vorderde en mijn ogen vermoeider werden was het met momenten haast ontcijferen. Maar dat kan ook aan de leeftijd van mijn ogen liggen 😊
Verder is Geheimen van de zee nog steeds een echte Montefiore. Vlot, meeslepend en romantisch met een zekere voorspelbaarheid in verwerkt. Toch is het niet eentje van haar toppers, maar wel de moeite om even op te pakken als je een liefhebber van haar boeken bent.

Pixie, in her pink hair is back and off on the next mission of helping a lost soul at the Aldershoff Hotel in Manhattan. This hotel, previously owned during the NY finest, in the Guilded age has found itself in turmoil when a disconsolate soul is summoned by an unsuspecting woman looking for answers through a “spirit board”. Pixie is now tasked with time sliding to understand why this whirlwind spirit is here and what they require to heal.
With her side-kick on the watch, Pixie goes and does what she does best…she slips into the body of someone close to the spirit, into the past and puzzle out the whys… while she sleeps in the present time.
What is unwrapped in her 3 hours sleep takes a week or so in the past with our lost soul, some unsavoury characters and a special surprise person from the first novel.
I want to say more… but cannot. You need to be pleasantly surprised as to where the story develops and absorb it at each stage.
I cannot wait for the final installation of this series. My heart is awaiting a development to the next step of Pixie’s journey in present day.

The second in the Pixie Tate timeslider mysteries. The story begins in the Aldershoff Hotel in New York where Alma Aldershoff holds a seance with a spirit board hoping to make contact with her deceased husband. She is interested in locating a special diamond which she believes is somewhere in the hotel. Unfortunately instead of her husband and unleashes the ghost of somebody else! Pixie is called in to banish this spirit by use of her timeslider powers.
I very much enjoyed the first book in this series, Shadows in the Moonlight, and I’ve been looking forward to reading this second one since it was published. Let me tell you it doesn’t disappoint! There are a few twists and turns in this story and even a trip on the Titanic, not an ideal ship to sail on. 😱 It doesn’t end well as we all know. Anyway, this book kept me avidly turning the pages, I so wanted to know what was going to happen next. I like Pixie as a character and find the idea of time sliding intriguing. There is a smidgeon of romance in the form of a face from the previous book which leaves the story on something of a cliffhanger. An engaging and fascinating read. I can’t wait for the final book in the trilogy where, hopefully, all loose ends will be tied up.

Mmmm I’m not sure what to say about this book.
I’ve read everything ever written by this author and think she’s amazing (the DEVERILL series is brilliant for anyone looking for a good read but avoid the Flappy series), but I wasn’t that impressed with this one.
I’m not sure what it was about it that I struggled with as i usually fly through her books loving everything about them.
I preferred the first book in this trilogy and don’t know if the whole meeting of the main characters ‘great love’ from the past being interwoven into this book worked? I’m guessing it’s building up to a conclusion in the final one where Pixie will meet him again and choose to remain in the past with him? Or he’ll appear in her lifetime in some kind of incarnation but I just wasn’t sure about it.
The idea of experiencing the sinking of the titanic was clever and the reason for the spirit being stuck was also good but I just couldn’t get into it in the same way I usually do with this authors books.
However I will read the final one when it comes out in 2026, just to see what happens. But come on Santa, go back to your usual style of writing please 🙏

After reading the first book in the series I was convinced that I did not enjoy timeslide novels. However having enjoyed one by another author I decided to give this one a go. The first part of the book seemed so slow and with many vague characters that I nearly gave up. However the part of the book on the Titanic was absolutely brilliant. I couldn't stop reading it. the mixture of menace and inevitability was so gripping. I will always remember the most moving description of the sinking. ironically I wanted to finish this before I went on a cruise, and then chose to attend a lecture on the Titanic during a rather bumpy North sea voyage ! This confirmed many of the descriptions in the book. So as the resolution and love interest continued, the twists and turns made me wonder if there are two timesliders at work ?

Have waited a whole year for this book and it was worth the wait! Pixie really did find herself in a tight spot on this slide finding herself in one of the most famous events in history, it was so wonderfully written and believable I felt I was reading the account of someone who was actually there! (trying not to give spoilers so talking very vaguely)
It has been left wonderful for a third book with the story tide but nicely but the story of pixies life still open to be completed with things still waiting for answers! Highly recomend this book!!

I enjoyed reading this book and think it deserves a 5* review, however, it was not as engaging as the first book in the series. I liked that it was set on the Titanic, although it rushed through the most prominent part (the sinking). The main character didn't spend much time with the love interest, so it was hard to feel the love like in the first book. The story behind the ghost, Lester, was really drawn out and predictable. It needed to be more high stakes and more emotional. It's getting a 5* because I like the way it is written. It's and easy read and the storyline is good.
