A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.

Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.

Eh.

The lead-up to the Death arc felt rather artificial: Bendis fixing all his plot threads in convenient little bows one after the other in order to inflate the impact of Peter’s death. All of these issues at least look really good, as Lafuente continues to improve his aesthetic for the book and Pichelli knocks it out of the park. We even get a Chris Samnee issue.

The Death arc itself is much cooler, in that we get Bagley back for the swan song and the plot reaches its natural conclusion. It is surprising, though, how anticlimactic it does feel by the end, it really just kinda… stops.

The Team-Up issues are inessential at best; and really out-of-place, pointless, and boring at worst. The special issue to cap it all off at the end, too, feels out-of-place. I think swapping the page placement of the actual Ultimate Spider-Man issues with the Team-Up and special issues may have helped mitigate how weird it feels to end all the USM omnibuses with a glut of Team-Up filler.

Overall, this is a weird and unbalanced collection. It is very cool to finally have read the end of Ultimate Spider-Man, but I don’t think I ever need to read the majority of this volume again.

i've loved Ultimate Spider-man since I was a teen going to my local library borrowing the well read volumes. The art style and relevance to highschool peter parker and spider-man had in my life inspired me in so many ways.

Its been a blessing to revisit these comics as an adult and get to finally finish the story from A to Z. I'm grateful I got to read it to the end. Bendis has done such a great job of this series.

While this Omnibus was not as strong as the others, its still good. The ending was handled relatively well. It wasnt my favorite ending of a story ever, but it certainly wasnt the worst. It was acceptable. Thats how I found this omnibus. Not great, not bad, but acceptable.

But regardless, I would like to say a genuine thank you to everyone involved who created this story and work of art. It meant a lot to a young highschooler at the time and if still does to the adult me now.

Spider-man rules. Nuff said.

My lowest score for one of these ultimate Spider-Man omnibus driven by the average to poor 16 issues of ultimate marvel team-up included in the book.

The core spider-man title is good, picking up a lot better than the end of the previous volume and continuing though with consistent quality through to the end. Great issues and entertainment.

Then we get the team-up section. Bar a few very infrequent highlights (like the punisher issues) it really isn’t worth reading and in truth I did skim a few due to the complete lack of quality.

I picked this up having already bought volumes 1 to 4. In hindsight I wonder if the death of Spider-Man omnibus would have been a better choice over this one

Loved the actually USM series. Zero interest in the “Team-Up” issues.
