This was a simple easy read for my daughter and me. We have a pet tortoise and always enjoy reading books about turtles. It would have been nice if the book had some more specific information to different breeds, as some of the general guidelines suggested actually do not apply to the type of turtle we have.
This book offers some basic information about caring for your pet turtle. The narrative is short and has a big font, so it's easier for children to read and understand. And there are lots of big, colorful photographs of adorable turtles.
I like that the book also mentions the evolution of turtles and explains that they've been around for more than 200 million years. The ancient turtle skeleton was very interesting. The book also discusses cultural references to turtles, especially in religious teachings. I had to laugh when I read that Steven Spielberg used Galapagos tortoises as the inspiration for the character, E.T.
We recently adopted a baby snapping turtle and I borrowed a bunch of turtle books from our local library, not knowing if any would help us learn more about caring for a snapper. This book wasn't very helpful in that regard, but it was a fun, fast read.
