When special forces veteran Eddie Virgo agrees to rescue a young woman, Casey Bender, from the clutches of a religious cult, he has no idea what he’s getting into.
The cult leader, self-appointed prophet Doctor Daniel Nelson, has a small army of fanatical followers who will do whatever he asks. Up to and including murder.
And there are other problems.
Casey doesn’t want to be rescued – she has been totally brainwashed and worships the ground that Nelson walks on. Even worse, some disaffected cult members are plotting a violent rebellion that will put Casey and her fellow acolytes in terrible danger.
Virgo teams up with PI Jessica McGann as they race to save Casey before it’s too late. But how can they help a victim who doesn’t want to be rescued? And can they do it before the cult explodes in an orgy of violence and destruction?
Buckle up and hold tight. It’s Judgement Day.
Judgement Day – book 2 of the brilliant action thriller series featuring Eddie Virgo. Perfect for fans of Lee Child, Jason Kasper and David Archer.
I'm not normally into Special Forces or military thrillers, but have read a few decent thrillers where the main person has left the forces and set themselves up doing police P.I or helping the less unfortunates on the street, and this is one of them, where there training has come into a workable thriller. This is one, is where Eddie usually cooking and washing up after feeding the down-trodden and those on the street, and is approached by a P.I who pretends to be a sister to Casey that has been brainwashed and living in a sect and is desperate to get her home and offers lots of money, now money is not what interest Eddie, and at first is reluctant but says he will look and speak to her and see what she wants to do. He does make contact with Casey thru the Pastor eventually and on neutral ground, and she insist she is happy and does not want to go home to her mother who she says is suffocating, but her company person who is with her has a different view which did sound a bit conflicting but turns up dead the next day and Eddie is in the frame for his murder, but because he is in his RV and the site has camera's he is exonerated. Now Eddie does not like to be framed for something he did not do and together with the P.I they set about rescuing Casey from the clutches of the sect can it be done? A very good read exciting fast paced and gripping. I did receive an ARC via Booksprout and this is my own taking of the read.
I've been reading a lot of Jack Reacher lately and this had the same vibe, which is another way to say I really enjoyed it. Jack Reacher has many character flaws that I choose to overlook because I like the mysteries, but really let's all admit that Reacher is sort of a sexist macho dick even though the author was clearly trying to make him not sexist. The main character here, Eddie Virgo, was clearly working through internal struggles and while there was a light romance it didn't "save" him, so to speak. The trope of male macho hero needing to impress a woman and using sex/romance as a way to not deal with his feelings is so boring and insulting- thank you Steve Sheffield for not falling into that hole.
On to the actual plot, this was a really engaging novel. I loved the limited time we spent in Casey's head and how she realized that even if the POG sort of turned out to be a cult, it didn't necessarily corrupt her faith. In general, faith as a weapon is a villain I wish we saw more of in media. The difference between what faith should be and what charismatic leaders can turn it into makes for a fascinating dichotomy, and Sheffield handled it extremely well. I didn't realize this was the second in a series, so I look forward to going back and reading the first book!
Eddie Virgo just wanted a simple rescue mission—get the girl, get out. Instead, he walks into a full-blown doomsday cult, complete with brainwashed followers, a creepy prophet named Doctor Daniel Nelson, and enough red flags to knit a murdery quilt.
Casey Bender, the woman he’s supposed to save, doesn’t want saving. She’s all in on the cult life. Add a brewing rebellion and a PI named Jessica McGann who takes no crap, and you’ve got a fast-paced, explosive ride that smells like sweat, gunpowder, and bad decisions.
The writing is sharp, the tension crackles, and the characters feel real—especially Virgo, who’s tough but not invincible. Sheffield blends action, dark humor, and just enough heart to keep you hooked.
If you like your thrillers gritty, quick, and cult-filled, Judgement Day delivers. Big time.

Eddie Virgo is in his RV cleaning up after making breakfast for homeless people when he meets Jessica who wants his help in bringing a woman from a cult. Eddie originally turns her down, but in the end agrees. It seems that Casey had previously told someone that she wanted to stay. Eddie talked to her and got the same answer.
Follow along and observe what steps are taken in bringing Casey out. Learn more about the cult and what the leader has in store for Casey. Read the exciting conclusion to get all the answers.
Eddie is back! He gets involved with a local cult when he is approached to help persuade a young woman to leave the cult and soon realises there's a lot more going on when a young member who tries to warn him ends up murdered.
There's plenty going on here. Some very eye-opening baptism methods, drug dealing and a psychotic leader who presides over some horrific deeds. There's lots of action and violent encounters and Eddie gets his fair share of whacks as well as doling them out. This was certainly a page-turner for me and I look forward to seeing where him and his RV end up next.

Second book in the Eddie Virgo series and is as good as the first. He is like a dog with a bone as just never gives up. Got a knack for getting out of hairy situations. My family loves this Genre. I love Virgo's type of justice. A good finale. Love the fact that it has been left open for another book which I hope Mr Sheffield either has written or is in the process of.

Reading this book is like watching a movie. I've enjoyed it and become so lost in the plot that I couldn't stop reading. I can honestly say that there's nothing in the book that I don't like. It's a page-turner with excellent characters and great world-building. I recommend the book to all fans of thriller and action books. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you, Steve Sheffield.

Eddie has no idea what he has agreed to when he decides to rescue Casey Bender from a wild religious cult. The leader of the cult has no intention of giving up Casey without a fight including murder. Eddie job is made even more difficult because now Casey thinks the cult is great and doesn't want to leave. Eddie teams up with PI Jessica McGann in a race to save Casey before they all die.
Books about cults, especially rescuing people from them, intrigue me. This one is no exception. This one though, the person in need of saving doesn’t want it. But she faces threats from inside too. Eddie Virgo won’t stop until she’s safe.

I hope there's more books on Virgo's life. I though he would had taken the money (from book 1) and put in a trust to help those less fortunate during his travel but I guess he doesn't think like me. Maybe he can be the undercover Equalizer. Enjoyed both books.
This time around Eddie is tasked with rescuing a woman from a cult. He is paired with an ex-cop turned PI. Can they save the girl before it is too late? Does she want to be saved? Time will tell. What an incredible thriller. I absolutely love this series and can’t wait to see what new things are ahead for Eddie.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This story had a cracker of a pace and was very hard to put down. I'm starting to wonder how many lives Eddie has, he has a habit of being knocked around. I'll gladly read more Eddie Virgo stories.
