The Weirdies: Maybe This Is a Bit Too Weird

Rate this book
Things take a depressing turn at Deadeye Manor after the shocking return of Mr. Weirdie and the Enchantress. Barnacle Melancholy and Garlic are put to the treacherous task of finding a lost family fortune buried somewhere within the manor, only to awaken some vengeful spirits with a diabolical plan all their own. Meanwhile, Miss Emily has decided that disguising her sunny personality as a wretched criminal is the best way to rescue the triplets, only to find herself in a high-stakes roller-boogie contest with her most loathsome enemy. Listen at your own risk, and don’t say I didn’t warn you.

This series is absolutely fabulous. I love the narration so much and even with the switch in narrators...it doesn't miss a beat. So funny...so ridiculous...so self aware...I live everything about it. A perfect light and funny listen. Included free with Audible Plus.

Imagine eating double Chocolate chips ice cream and then eating brownie. That’s about my experience with the series. This one is read by Helena Bonham Carter! Ok so I am not a Titanic girl, maybe a little Holiday girl, but I was surprised how Kate Winslet was acing(she’s the ice cream, if you didn’t get it). And I am definitely a Harry Potter girl, Bellatrix is definitely one of my favorite characters! So imagine my surprise when I found out who is reading the 3rd book in the series.

And the series? They’re witty, full with humor and fun, the 3rd one being a little boring then the others, but still, I had fun! I am definitely reading more of the author.

🎙Narrator: Helena Bohnam Carter🎙

This isn't my normal review, but this is a series that I have so muich fun listening to! This is meant for kids, but the wackier this series gets the more I love it! Having Helena narrate this was such a treat!! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved Kate Winslet, but Helena just has a way with her voice that gives this story something different. Definitely a good different!

Seeing how these kiddos have changed throughout this book was very heartwarming. I love Emily who is doing everything she can to get custody of the kids. She is such a sweetheart, but she defintely had a side that not everyone has seen!

I really loved this book and am going to try to not listen to the next book so soon to tide me over till the next book comes out. But let's be honest, I don't think I am going to be able to hold out!

As much as I love Helena Bonham Carter, she was so monotone that it definitely impacted the storytelling. Kate Winslet was so amazing the first two books, and I was bummed that the story took a more boring turn because the narrating was flat.

That said it is still a funny fun story

Starting to lose interest in this series, to be honest. It's still fun and gave me a few laughs, but the story itself isn't strong enough to keep my interest.

I liked Helena Bonham Carter's voices more than Kate Winslet's.

Had us laughing out loud the whole time. If you are sensitive to jokes about anything, skip it because everyone is poked fun at and religion is definitely part of that. Floridians here and laughed hard at the Florida jokes. Honestly this whole series was funnier to the parents than the kids. They loved it too but a lot of the content was for older audience.

This is too weird and terrific for it! - The children are back with their birth parents, living a life the exact opposite of that from before the incident. Toiling in the bowels of the manor house is no fun, especially when a sewer pipe is involved. Their awful parents take in the worst of society, creating an environment ripe for child endangerment. Exactly what Miss Emily needs to get her kids back. She will never concede defeat, not until her little weirdies are back by her side. If she has to invoke roller skating justice, so be it! Another great addition to the series, surprises revealed that made me go 'whaaaat'. The author has a great imagination. Helena Bonham Carter is just as good with the narration, her role as the rightful storyteller reclaimed after she escaped the trap laid for her by Kate Winslet. LOL.

This book was definitely weird. They switched narrators from Kate Winslet to Helena Bonham-Carter which was pretty entertaining. I love how Helena even creates a story for why the narrators changed. This was another fun adventure, but you get more backstory on Mr. Weirdie and the members of Old Man Weirdie’s criminal gang. Miss Emily’s secret backstory was quite a fun twist, and I loved the ending with her and the Enchantress. Everything ties up nicely in the story, but still leaves room for another one if needed. I didn’t enjoy this story as much as the other 2, but I loved the narrator! I also loved the subtle cameo of the Scooby-Doo gang. If another book ever releases, I’ll still definitely check it out!

this is a children's book and i tend to be very critical on these because what children consume, they become. this book was pushing it a bit with witch craft but its seen as an evil force and its also only there for comedy. I dont really think these books would have much influence on children. So that aside, this series is hilarious and the book even has a big plot twist. its all for comedy but seriously its better than alot of drama and fantasy novels. they try too hard and that's why this is better.

Kate Winslet doesn’t narrate this one which is honestly devastating. Helena Bonham Carter fits the vibe well, but she doesn’t differentiate much between each character’s voice (so no iconic Garlic lisp…very sad). But this story is a good mix between books 1 and 2. It had a balanced focus between the triplets and Emily, and I liked the backstory on Emily. Even though this is a middle grade series, there are a lot of references only adults would get. Michael Buckley’s writing is so funny and quirky. I’ve enjoyed this series a lot.

These stories are fun and funny at times. i've been enjoying them for the most part. this one, however, has a woke element that was disappointing. sports mascots are not racist. sports mascots are named because they are majestic, strong and powerful. they are named out of respect and honor. are we to say that we are racist to eagles, Bears, lightning, hurricanes, knights? what of the Denver Broncos? how dare they be so racist to horses? this notion is ludicrous.

This entire series was trying too hard. The constant references to the current political climate is too much. It’s like end barraged by a constant reminder of what a shjt show the world is, and if I wanted that I would watch the news. I finished them because they’re free but I would never pay for them.

I was a little disappointed at first when it wasn't Kate's voice like the first 2, but loved that they added Helena on purpose framing Kate as the imposter narrator. Helena did an excellent job! These books are so funny and unique. Highly recommend and im looking forward to book #4

Loved the first two. This isn't very engaging story and without Kate Winslet narrating it's not the same. 3/5 stars
