About the author

Nisio Isin (西尾維新 Nishio Ishin), frequently written as NisiOisiN to emphasize that his pen name is a palindrome, is a Japanese novelist and manga writer. He attended and left Ritsumeikan University without graduating. In 2002, he debuted with the novel Kubikiri Cycle, which earned him the 23rd Mephisto Award at twenty years of age.

He currently works with Kodansha on Pandora, the Kodansha Box magazine, and Faust, a literary magazine containing the works of other young authors who similarly take influence from light novels and otaku culture. He was also publishing a twelve volume series over twelve months for the Kodansha Box line; Ryusui Seiryoin was matching this output, and the Kodansha Box website stated that this is the first time in the world two authors have done twelve volume monthly novel series simultaneously from the same publisher.

In February, 2008, his novel Death Note Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases was released in English by Viz Media. Del Rey Manga has already released the first volume in his Zaregoto series. His Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari and Katanagatari novels have been adapted into anime series. Nekomonogatari (Kuro) has been adapted into an anime TV movie, and Kizumonogatari will be release in theaters this year. Monogatari Series: Second Season, adapted from 6 books in Monogatari Series will air in July 2013. Another of his works, Medaka Box (manga), has been adapted into a two-season anime series.

Writing against the mainstream inside the mainstream. That's Nisio Isin, one of the most prolific light novel authors. Bakemonogatari is the best example of his unorthodox style: not much action, lots of clever dialogs, serious and intelligent humor, dark topics (rape, fanaticism, broken families, envy) treated in a very human way despite the fantastic approach and memorable characters who aren't bounded by the clichés of the genre, being Senjougahara the most notable. Where other writers would solve a conflict using the common tropes of shounen, Nisio does it with words. And yet this is a novel aimed to a young public. Nisio doesn’t think his public is idiotic. He understands that writing for young people has never implied treating your readers as a brainless mass.

The incredible dialog makes the action even more intense when it appears, 5 stars is barely sufficient to rate any part of Monogatari.

Leído tras haber visto el anime y leído el manga. Es la fuente original, y leyéndola se entiende la estética los otros dos.

La mayor parte de la novela es diálogo, afortunadamente muy bien construido. La acción y el escenario se reducen al mínimo posible, y la trama avanza tocando a la vez lo sobrenatural (en este caso, el cangrejo y el caracol) y temas espinosos (sectas, un intento de violación, etc.)

Por otra parte, en esta versión, Araragi sigue siendo un pervertido, pero al menos tiene la excusa de que narra en primera persona. En ese sentido, esos momentos dan menos grima que en la versión animada, así que mucho mejor.

ในครั้งก่อนเราได้พูดถึงผลงานของ NisiOisin จากนิยายเสริม Death Note - Another Note คดีฆาตกรรมต่อเนื่องลอสแองเจลิส BB ไปแล้ว ครั้งนี้เรามาดูผลงานออริจินอลอันโด่งดังที่มีหนังสือออกมาต่อเนื่องนับ 10 เล่มของเขาบ้าง

ปกรณัมของเหล่าภูตหนังสือเล่มใหญ่มีแพ็คเกจกล่องใส่ดูหรูหรานั้นในความรู้สึกผมมีส่วนผสมทั้งนิยายและไลท์โนเวล กล่าวคือจากขนาดของรูปเล่มแล้วมีทั้งความหนาและใหญ่จึงทำให้ไม่เหมาะสำหรับพกพาไปอ่านที่ไหนก็ได้ แต่ภาษาและเนื้อเรื่องนั้นยังมีความเป็นไลท์โนเวลอยู่

เนื้อเรื่องเล่าถึงชีวิตของอารารากิ โคโยมิ เด็กวัยรุ่นมัธยมปลายที่ไม่มีอะไรโดดเด่น ไม่มีสังคม ไม่มีเพื่อน หากแต่วันหนึ่งขณะที่เขาก้าวขึ้นบันไดโรงเรียนได้มีร่างของหญิงสาวเพื่อนร่วมชั้นร่วงลงมา แต่ในขณะที่เราเข้าไปรองรับร่างอันบอบบางของเธอนั้น เขาก็ตระหนักได้ว่าตัวเธอนั้นบอบบางจริงๆเพราะเขาไม่ได้รู้สึกถึงน้ำหนักของเธอเลย นั่นทำให้อารารากิเข้าไปยุ่งเกี่ยวกับเรื่องลึบลับต่างๆ ปกรณัมที่มาในรูปแบบของความร่วมสมัยซึ่งทำได้อย่างลงตัวและเป็นจุดเด่นในงานของ NisiOisin ที่ผมชื่นชอบ

ทุกคนน่าจะทราบดีกว่าญี่ปุ่นเป็นดินแดนที่มีเรื่องเล่าต่างๆทั้งปีศาจ ตัวประหลาด ภูตผีและเทพเจ้านับพันอันสิงสถิตอยู่รอบตัวเต็มไปหมด NisiOisin ได้หยิบเอาสิ่งเหล่านี้มาผนวกกับปัญหาในสังคมของยุคสมัยใหม่ ทั้งปัญหาครอบครัว ปัญหาในโรงเรียน ปัญหาอันเกิดมาจากความรักความริษยากันอย่างลงตัว เป็นความแปลกใหม่ที่ผมชอบเอามากๆเลยทีเดียว

จุดเด่นอีกอย่างหนึ่งที่คุณจะพบเสมอในงานของ NisiOisin คือบทสนทนาไหลลื่นยืดยาวแสดงการต่อปากต่อคำของตัวละครแบบไม่มีใครยอมใครตบมุกกันโบ๊ะบ๊ะมาก ถ้าเราอ่านแบบไม่คิดอะไรคุณอาจจะคิดว่าเป็นการสนทนาเรื่อยเปื่อยไร้ทิศทาง บางทีคือพุ่งหลุดประเด็นที่กำลังคุยกันอยู่ออกไปเลยก็มี แต่ในท้ายที่สุดผู้เขียนมักจะดึงกลับมาเข้าประเด็นได้อย่างน่าประทับใจและมีอิมแพ็คเสมอ(บางครั้งเท่มาก บางครั้งประทับใจ บางครั้งก็ฮาๆดี) อีกอย่างหนึ่งคือผู้เขียนชอบที่จะเล่นคำในภาษาญี่ปุ่นมากๆตรงนี้ต้องขอบคุณคนแปลและสำนักพิมพ์ที่ใส่ข้อมูลเชิงอรรถไว้ทำให้เราสามารถเข้าใจได้และสนุกไปกับการอ่านปรณัม

พูดถึงข้อดีเรามาดูข้อเสียกันบ้าง ด้วยขนาดเล่มที่หนาและจำนวนหน้าที่เยอะทำให้หลายคนอาจจะขยาดแต่ความเป็นจริงแล้ว ตัวอักษรแต่ละหน้าในหนังสือนั้นมีขนาดค่อนข้างใหญ่และความหนาแน่นของตัวอักษรนั้นน้อยมาก นั่นคือในส่วนของการเขียนการจัดหน้ากระดาษยังมีความเป็นไลท์โนเวลอยู่ คนที่มาจากสายอ่านเนื้อหาคร่ำเคร่งตัวหนังสือเต็มพรืดอาจจะไม่ชินได้

โดยรวมแล้ว ปกรณัมของเหล่าภูต เป็นหนังสือที่เหมาะสำหรับผู้ที่สนใจในเรื่องลึกลับวัฒนธรรมญี่ปุ่นที่ผสมผสานความร่วมสมัยอย่างลงตัวเนื้อหาไม่หนักไม่เบาจนเกินไป ที่สำคัญเรื่องนี้มีสื่อให้เสพหลากหลายถ้าอ่านแล้วยังไม่จุใจสามารถหาชมได้ในรูปแบบอนิเมชั่นและภาพยนตร์อนิเมชั่นอีกด้วย

Ok cuốn sách mất cả nửa năm mới đọc xong, lần trước mình đã đọc gần hết rồi nhưng đùng cái reading slump nên đến tận hôm nay mới hoàn thành em nó.

Vẫn là cốt chuyện đầy quái dị và lạ lùng đậm chất NisiOisiN, lúc nào cũng khó hiểu nhưng lại vô cùng bánh cuốn và siêu hợp gu mình =)). Nam chính lần này nó vừa tốt vừa quan tâm người khác dã man, tuy không thể hiện rõ ràng nhưng càng về cuối truyện thì càng dễ dàng thấy được điều này. Tập 1 chia thành 2 phần chính về "Cua Hitagi" và "Ốc sên Mayoi", thú thật hồi đầu IPM thông báo phát hành mình cũng không hiểu sao mọi người cứ gọi Cua với Ốc sên. Oke, đọc xong thì đã hiểu, đại loại câu chuyện kể những con người tiếp xúc với những "hiện tượng quái dị, tâm linh" nào đó và sẽ có những đặc tính quái dị này kia á, Hitagi và Mayoi chính là 2 người đã tiếp xúc với "cua" và "ốc sên" tâm linh như vậy nên đặt tên thế. Tiếp xúc thế nào thì đọc truyện mới rõ =)).

Cái mình ấn tượng ở đây là cách tác giả chơi chữ cực hay, nhất là ở phần cái tên của em ốc sên Mayoi. Dù ban đầu đọc giải thích hơi lú thật nhưng hiểu cái là thấy xịn xò quá tròi =)). Chắc ai biết tiếng Nhật đọc raw mà nhảy số luôn là thấy hay lắm =)).

Cái mình thích nhất là tính cách của Cua Hitagi =)), trời ơi người đâu mà vừa xinh vừa cục súc lại còn rất thẳng thắn =))). Đọc xong thấy lựa chọn ver.A quả không sai chút nào =)).

Nhưng công nhận không hiểu cái dớp gì (chắc dớp flop) nên 3 bộ của NisiOisiN về VN nhưng cả 3 đều trong quá trình chờ đợi mòn mỏi =)). 2 bộ bên NN chắc bị drop không thương tiếc rồi, đến bộ này bên IPM mà cũng cả nửa năm rồi chưa thấy bóng dáng tập 2 đâu. Fine 🥶

Ce premier livre annonce une série prometteuse à suivre avec sérieux. Ces deux premiers récits sont forts avec tous les ingrédients bien dosés pour tenir les lecteurs en haleine. Il n’y a pas de temps mort et sous des dehors fantastiques, impossible de ne pas comparer la manière de procéder d’Araragi à des enquêtes policières avec un dénouement toujours surprenant. Еще я не слыхала кошмарней перевода.

В смысле это была аудиокнига, и мои уши сворачивались в трубочку от изящности оборотов переводчика. Я даже не хочу включать ее, чтобы взять первую попавшуюся строку и продемонстрировать убогость перевода.

Сама история рассчитана на парней, но неплоха.

Короче, надо было просто аниме посмотреть на каникулах.

I thought the style of writing was very clever and evocative. The adaptation to anime attempts to capture what is being done here but falls far short of how it’s able to be executed in print form.

Bakemonogatari was the first book to make me die laughing out loud, even in public, while reading it. The book is excellent and I absolutely love Senjogahara; she is by far the best character in this book and is extremely well developed. 5/5 Stars. I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes the supernatural and extremely witty dialogue. The dialogue is one of the best, if not the best, feature of the book, showcasing hilarious conversation between the protagonist annd Senjogahara. I would reccomend to readers who liked this book...well, maybe the prequel because it is really a one-of-a-kind masterpiece!

เป็นนิยายเน้นคาแรกเตอร์มากกว่าเซทติ้ง จุดขายอยู่ที่การที่ตัวละครหลายบุคคลิกตบมุกกันไปมาอย่างเฮฮา ขำขัน แต่หลักแหลม (slap stick comedy) รวมไปถึงตัวตนที่มีเอกลักษณ์ของตัวละครแต่ละตัว พวกเซตติ้งอย่าง ผี วิญญาณ คัลเจอร์ เป็นเรื่องรอง นิยายแม้มุ่งเป้าไปที่ระดับสำหรับผู้อ่านวัยรุ่น แต่ก็เขียนได้คมคายที่แม้ว่าจะอายุเลยวัยเลขสองไปแล้วก็สามารถอ่านให้สนุกได้ มีพื้นเพด้านมืดและดราม่านอกจากเรื่องตลกขำขัน(แต่อยู่ในระดับโชวเน็น) อ่านเผินๆ อาจคิดว่ามันเป็นไลธ์โนเวลด้วยซ้ำ ถ้าคนเขียนไม่บอกเองว่าไม่ใช่ เพราะบทบรรยายมีน้อยมาก บทสนทนาเยอะ เน้นกระชับเหมือนไลธ์โนเวล (ถ้ามันเล่มไม่หนาก็คงคิดว่าเป็นไลธ์โนเวล)ฉบับแปลอาจทำให้ผู้อ่านไม่ได้รับประสบการณ์เท่ากับอ่านต้นฉบับด้วยความเข้าใจทางวัฒนธรรมและภาษาญี่ปุ่นในระดับสูงพอสมควร เพราะเน้นการเล่นคำ แปลงคำ การประสมอักษร ความหมายนัยยะถ้อยคำทางวรรณกรรม และบทพูดที่เฉียบคมหลักแหลม(เป็นหัวใจหลักและจุดขายของเรื่องเลย) ซึ่งพอเป็นงานแปลสิ่งเหล่านี้จะหายไปมาก แต่ผู้แปลแปลได้ดีในระดับหนึ่ง มีฟุตโน้ตให้ในบางจุดด้วย มีความพยายามเปรียบเทียบแปลงให้คนไทยอ่านสนุกได้ แม้บางครั้งอาจพลาดเปลี่ยนความหมายที่ผู้เขียนต้องการสื่อให้ผู้อ่านในจุดเล็กๆ (แต่ก็สำคัญ) ที่ผมพอจะสังเกตุได้บ้าง อย่างการเรียกชื่อ เป็นต้น (มาโยยไม่ได้เรียกอารารากิว่าพี่อารารากิ แต่เรียกว่า อารารากิซัง (คุณอารารากิ) ที่ให้ความรู้สึกที่ต่างออกไป)แต่โดยรวมถือว่าสอบผ่านครับ

เรื่องนี้ไม่น่าเชื่อว่าผู้แต่งแค่แต่งเล่นๆ ฆ่าเวลาเพื่อถมตารางงานเท่านั้น กลับออกมาได้เสียงตอบรับเกินคาดกว่าที่ผู้แต่งแต่งเองเสียอีก

High school urban supernatural with ghosts, vamps, animal spirits, curses, and the like. The main character here is a rather heroic ex-vampire kid with a knack for stumbling into supernatural situations.

The stories are entertaining with lots of fun dialog and sporadic bouts of brutal action. The book is also happily able to avoid the most cliche aspects of mainstream storytelling ( I.e. it seemed to be setting up a typical harem-esque storyline and yet the the main character jumps into a committed relationship about 2/3 of the way through this first book. Also, the love interest is far from the typical weak, sweet, airhead-ish princess archetype).

A pretty fun and light read.

Gaya penceritaan orang ini, entah kenapa sangat khas memang. Apalagi karakter tsukkomi yang bawaannya stress macam Watanuki dan Araragi :D
Saya sebenarnya kurang suka POV orang pertama seperti buku ini, tapi, dalam Bakemonogatari, sepertinya memang lebih pas seperti itu.
Episode dalam buku ini meliputi Hitagi Crab, Mayoi Maimai dan Suruga Monkey. Favorit saya, semua kegilaan Hitagi terhadap Araragi, tentunya. Mulai dari pengakuan cinta yang selalu tidak pada timing yang romantis, sampai ke 'hadiah' tak terduga yang membuat saya yakin, cewek ini memang masih sama rusaknya seperti sewaktu kehilangan 'omoi'-nya di episode awal.
