Ghostlight Falls

Her Wonderful Wonder Belle

Rate this book
Eighty years is a hell of a wait for a first date.

Delia Rogers is the Wonder Balls’ biggest fan. All she needs now is a girlfriend to enjoy their games with. Because when it comes to baseball in Ghostlight Falls, Delia knows every detail...

Or that's what she thought until a simple accident unearths the dark secret buried within the stadium. Turns out, there's more to the town's baseball past than she ever could have dreamed.

If there were a girls' baseball team, Delia would have known about it. So why has no one in town ever heard of the Wonder Belles?

That's a question she’s especially desperate to answer after one of the missing Wonder Belles appears in her bedroom—Pearl Monroe.

Transported from the nineteen-forties with no memory of how, Pearl desperately needs Delia’s help. Not only does she need to figure out what happened to her, but Pearl's as two-dimensional as a baseball card...literally.

Making this a very inconvenient time to find the woman of her dreams.

Things are about to get weird.

Then again, weird is every day in Ghostlight Falls.

Set in Ghostlight Falls, the coolest—and weirdest—fictional small town in the Pacific Northwest, Her Wonderful Wonder Belle is a standalone, sapphic romance, in a shared world series. Mixing sports, magic, history, comedy, mystery, spice, and sentient object romance into one story, there’s something for every lover of the whimsical and wonderful inside.

Delia’s life is okay. Minus the fact that she doesn’t have a girlfriend or many friends. And the fact that her job as a janitor at the baseball stadium kind of sucks. But she’s a baseball fanatic, so at least she’s close to the game.

But one day Delia literally stumbles upon a baseball card from a mysterious baseball team that never existed. And then she meets Pearl: the girl of her dreams. Who happens to be the baseball card come to life. And she’s and made of paper.

I am surprised by how much I loved this story! Usually, I shy away from sportsball romances in general, but this romance between Delia and Pearl made me so happy,

I will love Marrow forever for adding in asexual representation in a way that felt so casually and totally normal that I wanted to cry.

Out of all the novellas I’ve read in the Ghostlight Falls series, I think this one’s plot was my favorite. The mystery and suspense had me forgetting that I was reading about a cardboard cutout more than once. The history of Ghostlight Falls really added to the entire series for me.

Finally, I LOVED the side characters and the hilarious karma filled bonus chapter. I want more of Delia and Pearl!

A League of their own meets Hydra and The Snap vibes with a bit of sentient object romance thrown in for good measure! Delia loves baseball but can’t find a woman who feels the same. That is until she opens a magical sweet tin and finds a baseball card for Pearl Monroe of the Wonder Belles… and the card comes to life bringing a papery Pearl into her life.

Delia and Pearl are a perfect match and I loved reading about their growing desires. I also really enjoyed meeting Rosa the candy witch and her daughter Sharon. This book is a fast-paced, insta love story with a twisty mystery that needs to be solved. It keeps you on the edges of your seat while also warming your heart. The writing is witty, funny and engaging, more than once I laughed out loud.

A highlight in this story is the creative way that Delia finds to create clothes for Pearl in her paper state. It was great to see Tillie from Paper and Passion pop up with Sheet-y too!

You might feel differently about bubble gum after you read this book! It’s perfect for those looking for a sweet sapphic love story running alongside a gripping mystery. If you want to dip your toes into sentient object romance, this is also a great starting point!

"She's not a baseball card; she's Pearl Monroe. And I want her to be mine."

Delia is the Wonder Balls' biggest fan, but she also works at the stadium with the scariest boss ever. One night while closing up, she uncovers something magical. A baseball card for a team that never existed, because if it had existed... Delia would have known about it. So what happens when one of the players comes to life from that card shows up in her room, completely made of paper?

That scary boss turns out to be much scarier than Delia ever realized. He's old. He's dangerous. The Wonder Belle's were made to disappear at his hands, and now it's up to Pearl and Delia to bring them back, and right the wrongs in the history of Ghostlight Falls. With the help of some other locals, will they be able to do it? Will they also be able to fall in love without getting their hearts shredded by the paper shredder called life?

Her Wonderful Wonder Belle is a standalone, sapphic romance, in a shared world series. Mixing sports, magic, history, comedy, mystery, spice, and sentient object romance into one story, there's something for every lover of the whimsical and wonderful inside.

Her Wonderful Wonder Belle is part of the Ghostlight Falls universe. They say Keep Portland Weird but Ghostlight Falls is weirder. This is a shared world series set in the cutest little paranormal town in Oregon. There is a little bit of everything non-human, from shifters to sentient objects, and even a few alien encounters. Books released throughout the month of September 2025.

I was lucky to ARC read this one and it was one of the most relatable from the series. Delia is a lesbian icon in my opinion. Awkward, gamer, special interests, and some chronic pain. I feel it in my heart and soul. Oh, and an interesting cat like pet. Delia and I would make a great set of friends. Pearl is pretty cool too. Athletic, unique, and determined to take care of others.

Just like with all my reviews, here are a few quotes from the book that I enjoyed:
•"I'm pretty sure that rule number one of living in a town with people who can put curses on you, is don't do shit that makes them want to put curses on you."
•"I try not to let anyone see me dance. I have limbs like an antelope, the posture of a croissant, and a complete lack of rhythm. My whole dance routine gives "ostrich mating ritual.""
•"Gamers and terrible postures are built for each other."
•"Today's tee has a cartoon rat on the front and says "God of Lust" on top and "Be Like Him" on the bottom. Does it make sense? No, but I got it for two dollars at the Ghostlight Falls thrift store, and it makes me smile."
•"Step two is getting her not to blow away whenever there's a strong gust of wind. We have to work that one out. For now, I'm holding her hand-oh no, what a shame, whatever will I do-and thankful that the air is mostly still."
•"Well, I might be made of paper forever, I've been removed from history, and I'm filled with bubblegum. That's certainly not great news. I do have Delia, which is wonderful. Really, really wonderful. I've also discovered Doritos." (Doritos are a wonderful discovery. I'm so happy for you Pearl.)

Delia and Pearl were so fun and I loved reading their story!

Ghostlight Falls is truly a unique place, and this story definitely fits in. While the romance and spice between Delia and Pearl were great and interesting, I really loved the story and plot. I found the added magical elements in this book extra fun and interesting.

I definitely recommend this book and can't wait to read more of Morrow's books!

Aww but how cute were Pearl and Delia? They both loved baseball and were unapologetically themselves (though Pearl did get anxious a couple time). I liked that Pearl was queer even in the 40s. I also liked that Delia had chronic back pain, cuz samsies. They had some tricky moments, but the two of them got to have their unconventional HEA.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: Discussion of war, including, but not limited to, the 1940s Mediterranean Theater (Italy and Greece specifically.) Mention of experimentation on prisoners. Vague discussion of religion/afterlife. Mention of past religious abuse by a parent. Teenage runaway. Talk of historical and current homophobia and persecution against queer people. Mention of American politics. Getting licked without permission by a stranger. Side character uses a legal recreational vape. Someone disrespecting disabled parking spots. Chronic back pain. Slime. Getting sticky all over. Lots of mentions of chewing/eating. Detailed descriptions of sexual activities. Severe cat-like scratches. Passing mention of bugs. Misogyny. Ableism.

Pearl is surprisingly progressive for being from the 1940's. I love it, but it threw me off a little with her being so open-minded and decisive about what she wanted even when it went completely against the overall sentiment of the time she came from.

She's so freaking cute, especially when she's trying to figure out something modern that she's not familiar with. It would be really scary to suddenly be somewhere completely different from where you were, and she handled it so well! Her teasingly calling Delia a floozy had me in stitches 😂

I'm also a huge fan of ridiculous sports team names, and the Wonder Balls and their fight song is so wonderfully silly that it makes me cheesy grin every time they come up. Just imagining people gathering in a bar/restaurant yelling BALLS! BALLS! BALLS! because they're supporting their local sports team is hilarious

This was adorable, I was kicking my feet at the women's baseball team and couldn't help thinking about a League of their Own the whole time!
The 2 dimensional paper doll twist was definitely one that took some getting used to but turned into some very cute, sweet, and spicy (also sweet because bubble gum?) moments! I'm choosing to believe all of the Wonder Belles got their happily ever after.

Am I surprised that Sylvia Morrow has once again written a novella that kept me up past 3:00 a.m., leaving me smiling even as my eyelids grew heavier? Absolutely not. This seems to be a recurring pattern for me with books written by this author.

Needless to say, I loved Her Wonderful Wonder Belle—but that doesn’t stop me from saying it anyway! I found this novella as sweet as Rosa’s candy. I still don’t know how Sylvia comes up with such creative ideas, but I hope her imagination never leaves her.

Delia Rogers is a young woman with one passion in life: baseball. That’s why she works as a janitor at her town baseball stadium—go Wonder Balls! After an impromptu meeting with her scary boss, Mr. Brigley, Delia literally stumbles upon an intriguing discovery: a box of candy from Rosa’s store lying under a loose brick. The box appears to come from the 1940s. Once Delia finally manages to open it, it reveals its contents. Inside, the young woman finds a letter, an empty gum wrapper, and a baseball card featuring Pearl Monroe, a player for the Wonder Bells, the women’s baseball team of Ghostlight Falls in the 1940s. The problem? Delia knows everything about her town baseball and has never heard of the Wonder Bells.

Pearl Monroe was a rising star in the 1940s. She was an exceptional pitcher for the Wonder Bells and starred in several films, including public service warnings for schools. Nearly eighty years later, she awakes in a completely unfamiliar place and time, and to make matters worse, her body is two-dimensional and made of paper. Perhaps she should have starred in a public service film warning children about the dangers of swallowing bubble gum when told not to? We’ll never be sure, but while her awakening is brutal and unsettling, she couldn’t have found a better companion than Delia in this new reality.

Honestly, Delia and Pearl are couple goals. They’re so adorable together! How could you not love them?

I really liked the way this story was built, all the mysteries it contains, and Sylvia Morrow’s nod to the bad posture known to all gamers around the world. However, and I’ve already informed her of this, the additional attributes that Sylvia gave Mavis, Delia’s cant—yes, cant, not cat—were unnecessary 😱 but at least she made up for it with the bonus chapter, which is devilishly funny.

I recommend Her Wonderful Wonder Belle without hesitation. As always, read the author’s notes because your mental health will always matter more than any book in the world.

Many thanks to Sylvia Morrow for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of Her Wonderful Wonder Belle. This review is my own. All opinions expressed are mine.

Small Business BookTok ARC Reviews (BookTome Edition): “Her Wonderful Wonder Belle” by Sylvia Morrow

Note: This ARC was given to me for free by the author, and I am reviewing this book voluntarily.

In the paranormal town of Ghostlight Falls, Delia dreamed of one day connecting with someone who shared her love of Baseball! Little did she know, however, that she would hit a home run one day.. and find a baseball card with a magical secret!

From the author of “Stuffed” and “Goat Girl” comes the tenth installment in the author-collaborated Paranormal Romance series “Ghostlight Falls” by Sylvia Morrow! This installment not only stays consistent with the titular Paranormal town's world-building, but the narrative provides important commentary that doesn't go unnoticed amongst the Sentient Rom-Com hijinks! The story balances a unique plot with extremely relevant discussions on sexism in the job force and how often some systems try to either discredit/erase women’s achievements in certain fields throughout history or they barely mention them in the form of a footnote or afterthought. Don't want to “strike out” on this chance to dive back into the world of “Ghostlight Falls”? Then don’t miss out on this book when it hits online shelves on September 29, 2025!

I love reading Sylvia Morrow’s books; they always feel like being wrapped in a weird, cosy blanket. She’s so creative, and it’s never just an idea left hanging. The mechanics of her worlds always make sense, so I’m never left wondering how it all works.

I loved Delia’s character from the start, and Pearl was brilliant! Their dynamic had such good chemistry, and I really enjoyed watching it unfold. The romance is both sweet and inventive (the way they figure out intimacy together was written with so much heart).

This book had everything I hoped for:
- A unique paranormal twist that feels fresh and magical
- A romance that balances charm, spice, and genuine emotion
- Brilliant side concepts (the Wonderbelles’ history and the witch’s magic)

Sylvia manages to make something as wild as a paper woman falling in love feel both believable and heartwarming.

Quick Summary:
Delia, a lonely baseball fan working at her local stadium, stumbles across an old sweet tin, and a wish brings Pearl, a paper woman from the 1940s, into her life. Together they face down the corrupt stadium owner, uncover the truth about the Wonderbelles, and find love that transcends form and time.

Her Wonderful Belle – Sylvia Morrow

Okay, sapphic romance isn’t usually my go-to, but OH MY GOSH this one? Unbelievably adorable. Like, heart-squishy, smiley-face adorable.

…And then it went absolutely feral in the best way. Because apparently we’re falling in love with a lady made of paper. Yes, paper. Pages. Origami girlfriend. And if that wasn’t enough to fry my neurons, there’s also… bubble cum. Yep. Bubblegum-flavored orgasms. And honestly? At first I was weirded the hell out, then I just shrugged and went: You know what? This is Ghostlight Falls chaos, baby, let’s roll with it.

Parts of this book straight-up defied logic (I’m still reeling, actually), but the writing was smooth, the vibes were cute, and I had an amazing time giggling my way through the absurdity. Because sometimes romance doesn’t need to make sense—it just needs to be sweet, spicy, and utterly bonkers.

10/10 would let a paper girlfriend fold me into a crane and float me away.

The Wonder Belles was Ghostlight Falls all female baseball team. Delia works for Brigley who owns the stadium where the Wonder Balls play. Brigley has basically wiped the Wonder Belles history from existence so nobody knows about them. That is, until Pearl shows up. She was once a member of the Wonder Belles, but now she is 2D and made of paper.

I did catch the references in the book and was curious if any of it was relevant at some point and it absolutely was. I knew of Wrigley Stadium and Wrigley gum, but I never knew that he was in charge of an all female baseball team!

I wasn't expecting the giants, they definitely gave me a good laugh. Thank you for an ARC of this book!

”I’m made of paper. Crazy is my life.”

4 stars. Sapphic romance between a human (Delia) and a ghost woman from the 1940s who is made of paper (Pearl) hell yeah lets go! Also, the ghost woman made of paper releases bubblegum when she orgasms. Yep. This was just my type of weird and I really enjoyed it. Fast paced, funny, absurd, sexy, and just full of charm. The small town setting was cozy and a lot of the were great and made the town come to life. Delia and Pearl are both so likable and I loved the chemistry between them. Their romance is insta-love but did I care? Not at all. Pearl is literally made of paper and orgasms bubblegum, honey I’m here for the ride. So glad that I randomly decided to pick this up because this was so entertaining and bizarre. Loved it.

I did like this sapphic romance read. What I liked better through was the mystery surrounding Pearl and how she came to appear in in front of Delia. Yet, the sad thing is that I would have gotten into the story and the mystery better but if I could have connected with the characters more.

I love Ghostlight Falls and the residents. yet, this time I found myself struggling to connect with Delia. Pearl on the other hand, I did like right away. This is because of what happened to her and that I felt like even though she came from the past, she was more forward. Love the appearance of Mappy. He is still his cheeky self.

I had so much fun reading this novella. Want to dip your toes into sentient object romances? Like baseball? What about bubble gum? Boy, I have a recommendation for you!

This was such an enjoyable FF sentient object romance. Less than 100 pages, well-written, entertaining with a great amount of both plot and spice.

Favorite quote:
“My heart skips a beat when I see her there, laughing and doing exaggerated modeling poses, as if this isn’t serious. As if I haven’t just realized I’ve got it bad for a hundred-something-year-old cursed lady who’s made of paper, filled with bubblegum, and who my evil boss wants to erase from existence.”

“For now, I’m holding her hand—oh no, what a shame, whatever will I do”

I really liked “Her Wonderful Wonder Bell”. It’s the first one in the Ghostlight Falls series that I wanted a full length book for. There was so much to unpack and explore, I wanted a lot more than 95 pages. There is a mystery that needs to be solved, magic, demons, friends that need to be rescued, and Pearl needs a 3rd dimension. Overall a great quick read when you are looking for something outside of the box with a little lesbian spice.

Well that's definitely a new reason to not swallow gum.

Delia hasn't had the best luck with love or her poor back. Just going through life until she finds something that changes everything.

All she has wanted is a gf to love and she definitely finds that in Pearl. There is alot of adapting happening considering Pearl is from the 40's. Leads to a very steep learning curve just about everywhere except the bedroom 😉. These two are so sweet and understanding. Quite literally made for each other.

Loved getting to see our candy witches and the hint at where the story can go next.

Delia works at the baseball stadium during the day and lives with her cant at night. She is single because she can't seem to find a girl who loves baseball as much as she does, until she stumbled into Pearl, a sexy softball player from the past. When they meet, there is an immediate attraction between the two that ends up being a match made in heaven. This story is very creative and unique in the best possible way. There is mystery, spells, romance, spice, and of course, Mavis the cant. Excellent read.

Have you ever wanted to check baseball cards off your sentient bingo card? Now you can!

Her Wonderful Wonder Belle was a cute read! I loved the creativity involved in the plot line and all the characters introduced. The FMCs were unapologetically themselves, and Ghostlight Falls never fails to live up to its brand-people going with the weird flow trying to live their lives amidst unanticipated chaos.

How is this so good?? I have no idea how she fit this much (unhinged) plot and backstory into a novella. You've probably never thought "what if a person from a baseball card came back to life...but as paper?" But, if you had, this would be that perfect story for you. Morrow somehow packs a lil spice and some good sapphic love development while a candy witch helps them defeat a "demon" (being from the underworld). Truly, I'm stunned it's so good.

ARC Review

First, thank you so much to all the authors of the Ghostlight Falls series for the ARC!

This sapphic romance was so sweet and spicy like Rosa's mango-chili lollipop. Delia and Pearl's chemistry was instaneous. I enjoyed watching them fall in love and Delia teaching Pearl about the modern world. Also Delia's inner monologue is too funny. It would've been fun to see her show Pearl her "ostrich mating ritual" dance moves lol. Lastly, shoutout to Mavis, for being the best cant.

This is a good sentient story. Delia and Pearl's story is different for me. They have some serious two dimensional problems to get over. They work like a team to set things right that went wrong 80 years back. In doing this they find love too. That has its own challenges though. I recommend this story to those that like Paranormal stories heck even this series. You'll want to check out the whole Ghostlight Falls series.

Pearl
Delia

This was great and touching. These amazing women were erased from history by such a douchy man. Ghostlight Falls has had a lot of questionable things going on for a long time.

Delia finally gets the girl of her dreams.
Pearl gets her life of adventure and she is able to find more of that team. And she gets a woman who is devoted to her and wants to show her this brand new world.

I love Brock and Sharon. They are funny and cute. Brock is such a himbo. 🤣🤣

I didn’t expect this one to hit me the way it did, but it was honestly so dang charming. It’s weird in a very Ghostlight Falls way, but also soft, sweet, and kind of sneaky with the feelings.

I loved how easily the connection worked without needing a ton of drama, and the mystery kept me turning pages when I thought I was just here for the romance. It made me smile, made me care, and left me wishing I had just a little more time with these two.

Curses, a strange pet, and a sapphic romance. What more could you need?
I had a lot of fun with this story. The mystery behind the baseball cards and the creativity with having a paper woman was really interesting! The romance was very sweet and I hope to see these gals appear again!

Sylvia Morrow does it again!
I was fully invested in Pearl's dilemma and before i knew it we was at the end!
Delia was just doing her job at the stadium when she mutters out loud about wishing she could find a Girlfriend who loves baseball as much as she did and when she turns around Pearl is standing there.
I loved all of it so much and it was an amazing addition to the GLF series!

Paper dolls and fans of baseball! This is a sweet sapphic romance between a woman and basically a woman reanimated as a paper version of herself. I loved the end for the villain and the shy but not shy demeanor of Delia combined with Pearl’s old school scandalized but also confident style. And the spicy bubblegum 😉.

We’re back in Ghostlight Falls for the love story of Delia, a baseball fan and park janitor and Pearl, a former actress and baseball star from almost a century ago.

This is definitely the most plot-driven of the Ghostlight Falls novellas that I’ve read so far, but that’s not at all a bad thing. There’s still plenty of spicy fun between Dee and Pearl, even if Pearl is made of paper and gum. Lots of stickiness during the intimate moments.

There’s a Big Bad in this one but also fun side characters that I hope we see more of (Sharon? Antonio? I need more of you both!). Seeing our ladies thrive and survive, figuring out how to free their teammates, recover their existence and work to defeat Brigley… all amazing.

Thanks to the Ghostlight Falls team and author Sylvia Morrow for the eARC!
