Rocky Rush, the leader of the Onyx City Mayhem Motorcycle Club, isn’t interested in living a traditional life. After he and his brothers become orphans during their adolescence in the most violent way, the only people he wants to be attached to are them and their grandparents, who took them in. Instead of focusing on dating and starting a family, he focuses on what he deems important.
Rue Abrams isn’t living the life she dreamed of as a young girl. Along with being a single mother to her son, she was tasked with caring for her five younger sisters when her parents were tragically killed in an accident. On top of that, it seems as if her son’s father spends his day trying to figure out how to ruin hers.
After a heated disagreement when Rue picks her son up from the youth center Rocky owns, they walk away, fuming. However, days later, they are still consumed with thoughts of one another. When they finally give in to their brewing feelings, Rue’s ex refuses to give her the peace she desires, so Rocky handles him the only way he knows how.
Will Rue let her ex get in the way of her happiness? Or will Rocky make sure he and Rue get the happily ever after they deserve?
Welcome to Kay Shanee's Reading Korner Kay is forty something wife and mother, born and raised in the Midwest. During the day, she is a high school teacher. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite pastime is reading and writing romance novels about the dopeness of BLACK LOVE.
Rue is the oldest of six sisters, the mama to an active 7-year-old son, and co-owner of Bloom Flower Shop. On top of all of that, she has an ex who refuses to believe she’s just not that into him any longer and disturbs her peace every chance he gets. To say Rue’s plate is full would be an understatement so, the last thing she’s lookin’ for is a relationship. Rocky is a busy man himself. He’s the president of the Onyx City Mayhem Motorcycle Club, he’s co-owner of the Rush Brothers Youth & Recreation Center, and he’s the primary guardian of his 7-year-old nephew. When these two meet, it’s definitely not love at first sight. Neither of them made a great first impression and they are good on each other. But, you know what they say. Never judge a book by it’s cover. When Rocky and Rue get past their initial introduction and realize they have more in common with one another than they thought, the sparks didn’t just start to fly. They catapulted through the air. The minute Rocky knew Rue was the one, he immediately started to move with intention and let her know he was in it for the long haul. He just had to get past those solid brick walls Rue had up. Once again, Kay Shanee hits it out of the park. This book was page turner from start to finish and I enjoyed it immensely. I just need to know if Rose and Russell are speakin’ to you cause, I wouldn’t mind a surprise drop on the other Rush and Abram siblings. 😉
For this to be a read about motorcycle clubs, why was I all in my feelings? Rue had me wanting to reach out to give her a hug and some big sister love and support, with the issues she had with Deacon. On the other hand, I wanted to shake her, cause sis what is you doin'? With all that you have been through, that man ain't changing and you have given him one too many chances!! Ughhhh.... 😤
Rocky and his brother Russell were doing their thing by helping out the community with their youth center. When a mother comes to pick up her child and is yelling and throwing hands at him, he is pissed yet intrigued. Who is this woman? From that point on, Rocky has a one-track mind, and that is Rue.
Once Rue let her guard down a bit, and had a few conversations with Rocky, she realized how many things in their lives paralleled and they could really relate to each other. Sparks were already flying; however, Rue was claimed by Rocky whether she knew it or not. I loved how Rocky was able to show Rue the consequences if she didn't make a change in her life regarding Deacon. Meeting the ladies, hearing their stories, and understanding the fear, absolutely did the trick. Rocky was not playing around when it came to protection. Enjoyed this. 👍🏾👍🏾
Rue is an amazing mother to her little boy, a business owner and took over raising her 5 younger sisters when her parents tragically passed away. To say she has a lot going on is an understatement. Add to that her ex who refuses to let her go and also refuses to be a decent human being and active father and Rue is managing a lot.
Enter Theee Rocky Rust. Their first meeting is rocky (pun intended) with Rue going full momma bear on his ass but that only makes Rocky more intrigued by her. Rocky has his work cut out for him because Rue has 5 story walls up but he is ready and willing to tear those walls down and tear her ass up.
I read this book so quick I actually had to read it twice. I loved Rocky he was all that and then some. really good head on his shoulders even if he does dead ninjas if necessary. I loved what he stood for and how forward he was with Rue. With what he has been through he could have turned out so different. I def understood Rue and her situation though I was def more with her sis Rosemary on the f*ck that sperm donor but I def understand wanting your child's father to have at least some act right for the sake of your kid. I loved Rosemary and her commentary def was a great side character. Only thing is I would have loved to see that progression with her and Russell but it wasn't about them so that was ok. Overall Loved the story and the ending was so sweet.
This was a pretty good addition to the BLP MC series. I liked Rocky and Rue together. I was glad when she finally stopped punishing him for the sins of another and really got to get to know him instead of making assumptions about who he was just because he was in a motorcycle club. I appreciated Rocky’s pursuit of Rue and not allowing her attitude in the beginning to push her away. The climax and ending felt a bit rushed, but I liked that these two were able to get to their HEA. I am curious to see if Rose and Russell with get their story told in a spin-off because they kept me intrigued. I would rate this 3.5/5 stars.
This was a short, sweet, and spicy read. Kay Shanee never disappoints. I enjoyed exploring Rocky and Rue so much, and I like that even though heavy topics were addressed, it didn’t overwhelm the story. Rocky being so protective of Rue was just amazing, and I love that she opened up to him the way she did after giving him such a hard time. I also love how she stepped up for Briar and the rest of her family without a second thought. This story was really a good and short read, and I wouldn’t mind seeing these characters again.
Kay Shanee, I loved Rock. He had just enough swag. He overcame things some of us would never have the tools to overcome. Rue never thought her life would be what it was. This situation is suffered in silence by many. Rue had so much love from siblings. When there are issues I was so glad to see the outcome of the situation ended differently. This is such a complex read. It's also a good lesson of undying love. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This book really captured the emotions of a woman who has been abused physically, emotionally and mentally. Also how even though you had a strong father in the household. You still could end up in abusive/toxic relationship like Rue did. I am glad that Rue dropped her guard and allowed love to come in and show her what unconditional love is.
Rocky was the truth!! And so fine and stood on business about Rue even when she was tripping lol I loved the Sisters and Can't wait for Rose & Russell lol this was sexxxy and hot.
Rocky was the definition of BDE in this story, even after you kept being horribly mean to him. I’m just glad Rue got her act together and let that good man love her and her son!! Five Stars Mrs. Shane!!
Rue and Rocky were goals for sure!! It starres out crazy but Rue played her hand and won Rocky over! He didnt know what was happening! He stood on business and won his woman over! No complaints this way I loved this story
Now, if Rocky wasn't the hero we needed. He dedicated his life to being about the community and serving justice to the abusers. I fell in love and would get at Rue about my man.
At first, I was confused about why Rue was so direct and mean to Rocky, but then it was revealed. I understood 100% and was happy that her sister's meddle in her business and Rocky showed her a side of him that had me swooning even more.
This books storyline was deep and emotional but right on time.
This book had me hooked from the first page. I loved the energy that rock came with and rose wasn’t letting her sister have any excuses. Deacon got everything he deserved
I love love love Rocky. He was THAT MAN from the start. He gave the assertiveness that Rue needed to open up & made him her safe place! Rue was commendable to stand up to Deacon & I loved how in the revelation of his wrongdoings she didn’t place blame on others. Actually all of them were mad at the right person. Briar was a little man him & RJ are the cutest! The girls are HILARIOUS lol
I loved Rocky and Rue's love story. Their initial meeting wasn't a nice one but it didn't take long for sparks to fly. I hate what Rue went through with her kid's "dad" but he got what he got and it was deserved. (Read to find out). Rocky did NOT play about Rue or Briar! SN: I loved all of the sister's names! I'm not asking for a family series (lol) but if author Kay Shanee decides to write more with this family, I know I'll enjoy those stories as well.
I know these books are a part of a larger series and the are all short but when it comes to Kay Shanee I always want more. It was a short sweet ride but left a few things to be desired as far as the main characters connection. Still loved it though. Always looking forward to a Kay Shanee book.
Great read of the positive side of MC! Rocky was such a stand up guy. I love the way he fought for a cause and to,help women. Rue and Briar meeting him was fate! Deacon was trash!
This was a quick read that had potential because of the story line and the content matter. I love an Alpha protector MMC…..However, he violated her physical boundaries in major ways that just turned me off from him honestly. It didn’t feel endearing because their relationship hadn’t been established at those times. I know it’s fiction but I just didn’t like it. So yeah overall I didn’t hate it but didn’t love it either. I did like Rue and her sisters though.
Ok. So. Consent doesn’t exist in this book’s universe and that’s a big issue for me. I tried to ignore it because “Rocky” is a work of fiction, but I couldn’t. “Rocky” is well-written and has some likable characters, but I can’t overlook some of Rocky’s (the character) actions.
I wanted to wholeheartedly like Rocky (the character), but he just gave me the ick. Some of his actions were cute but overall I just found him to be possessive, brash, arrogant, and creepy.
I can fully acknowledge that a lot of the MMCs in books are actually possessive, brash, arrogant, and creepy; however it’s usually easier to stomach/accept/ignore when they exude BDE. Rocky didn’t do that for me. The foundation for Rocky’s personality wasn’t established enough before his first interaction with Rue. Instead of coming off as “that 🥷🏾”, he came off as arrogant. And then that morphed into Rocky being a creep the first time he and Rue hung out.
When he showed up to Rue’s house to take her on the apology date, Rue made it known multiple times that she didn’t want to be bothered with Rocky. Instead of taking “no” as an answer, Rocky was persistent and then kissed her without permission. That is a form of sexual assault, and I feel like it needs to be acknowledged. The slap that Rocky received was deserved. Again, I understand this book is fictional, but I wanted to point that out so no one thinks it’s okay in real life. (& I’m not even going to go on a rant about how Rocky’s uninvited ass watching Rue masturbate is wrong or how he introduced bondage into their sex without a conversation/permission is not okay.)
I also didn’t like that everyone blamed Rue’s experience with Deacon for her not wanting to give Rocky a chance. Sometimes women just don’t want to give a 🥷🏾 a chance just because and that’s okay. “No” is a full sentence.
I think if the aforementioned actions didn’t happen, I would’ve been more open to liking Rocky. Damn near everything Rocky did from then on out annoyed me. Even when he did something positive or cute, I was lowkey a hater lol. Like yeah Rocky did some good sh*t, but I can’t ignore the fact that he’s creepy.
To end this review on a positive note, I liked Rue and her sisters, especially Rosemary. They showed up and showed out for one another. I also liked that Deacon’s trash ass got what he deserved. And if you’ve read “Desire: The Arranged Hearts Series”, Aziel and Desire make a little cameo appearance. We get a minute update on them that made me smile.
Ms. Shanee, you always come through with the assignments. You hit them on 🎯 every time. Rocky was that dude because honey, he did not play about Rue. He started protecting Rue after their first encounter. He saw those marks around her neck, and it was like honey to a bee. He was determined to figure out who did it and make them regret ever doing it. I love the man Rocky was his upbringing shined through his roughness. His grandparents raised him right. Rue deserves all of her flowers. She was not only raising her child but her five siblings as well. All of her siblings were girls, so that in itself was a challenge. She did it with grace and was raising well, respectful, educated ladies. Now, Rosemary was more outspoken than the rest, but it's always ☝🏾in the bunch. Speaking of Rosemary, are we going to experience her and Russell love? It was something brewing between those two. It was more than a cup of coffee.
Ladies and gents, this is a magnificent work of art. You need to grab your copy today because I'm highly suggesting it. You will enjoy Rocky and all his glory. The way Rocky handles Deacon, you know he means business.
This book pulled me in and couldn’t put it down at all because Rue she is a boss b**** and don’t take no stuff from anyone because she worried about her sister and her son and her bussiness. Even though she has to deal with her crazy baby daddy that think he the king of the world and he really does care that much about his son. All her crazy baby daddy care about is control over the women he with . then she meets Rocky at the after school program that he runs with his brother and nephew that they take care of after their brother died and they did hit off on a good start but they evenly end up liking each other and he help her heal from the trauma that her baby daddy put her through and they both know what it like to lose family her parents and his brother and they both have responsibilities but they have their sibling to back them. Rue little sister also fall for rocky brother and both couple go well together. I would recommend you ready this book
