Michaela knows well the prejudices of her neighbors. Her small magic shop has received more than her share of hate-filled graffiti and signs proclaiming her soul was bound to hell. But when she receives a crate of military-grade weapons, she calls the one agency she hoped to avoid.
They send Connal Pierce. With his midnight scales and spectral wings, Agent Pierce is every inch a child of dragons. His sensitivity to magic threatens to expose her secrets, while his honor challenges everything she’s been taught to fear.
When a devastating act of violence sends them racing across the country to stop a war humanity cannot win, Michaela must push her magic to its limits to save the powerful dragonkin she’s grown to love.
As a child growing up in rural Alabama, Elaina Roberts traveled the world through books. She battled Martians with John Carter, solved mysteries with Nero Wolfe, and sighed over happy endings with the likes of Johanna Lindsey and Barbara Cartland. Then she travelled the world courtesy of a military husband. And though it held significantly fewer Martians or murders, it did bring its own happily ever after.
As an author, she creates her own stories by bending reality to her will, altering locations, history, and even mythology with unrepentant glee. Vampires and werewolves, space pirates and edgeworlder smugglers, all deserve to have their stories told and to find their happily ever after.
A Thread of Magic is a spellbinding mix of romance, fantasy, and courage that completely swept me away. Michaela is a strong, defiant heroine whose quiet resilience shines even in a world that fears her magic. When she crosses paths with Connal Pierce the mysterious, honorable dragonkin agent the story ignites with tension, danger, and unexpected tenderness.
Elaina M. Roberts masterfully blends forbidden love, prejudice, and epic stakes into a breathtaking tale about trust and sacrifice. The chemistry, world-building, and emotional depth make this an unforgettable fantasy romance that lingers long after the last page.
I loved this book. A woman that can see the threads of magic and a dragon’s son, trying to overcome trauma, tragedy, attacks and discrimination. I loved Michaela’s descriptions of magic and how protective Connall is without suffocating her.

This was a really good book. I loved Michaela and Connal. They were unexpectedly great for each other. Michaela had to deal with a lot of judgment and Connal had her back.

this was really inventive but also a throwback to early 2000s urban fantasy with a dash of southern gothic. I liked the great dragons and magical agency, and want to know what happens next!
