Not sure if it's my mood partly but couldn't get into this one, love the characters and the world this author has created but just didn’t get pulled in this time :(.
Maybe I'll try again someday when mental lovelies aren't yo-yoing up and down.

4.5/5 ⭐ I was instantly drawn into this cozy fantasy. Getting to see the life of Cai'el and not just a few moments was something I really enjoyed. While there were some adventures and dramatic events, including dragons and unicorns, the real life day to day experiences and introspective questions were what really hooked me.
I loved the merge of fantasy and old west style horse / unicorn wrangling. Cai'el isn't a fancy, elegant elf and that makes him more relatable and complex. The romance is not spicy, but well told and deals with the impermanence of life and whether risking a broken heart is worth it for love.

Examining Life . . .
Snow Elf Cai'el is a unicorn wrangler who meets a human named Silas. What the two of them ultimately face is the fact that an elf has a much longer lifespan than a human. Should Cai'el stay with Silas to experience their relationship for as long as he can? Or should he leave to avoid the inevitable pain later of losing Silas? This is not an easy choice, with valid arguments to be made for either decision. But it is something to contemplate and come to terms with since love, loss, and continuing on is something all of us will face in one way or another. But part of living is gaining wisdom and experience even though we know parts of it are going to be painful. It’s what helps us grow, mature, and understand… and gives us the chance to comfort others as they reach that point.

Beautiful story about aging, from the perspective of an elf who lives among shorter-lived races. Years can go by between chapters. Avoid growing attached and suffer heartbreak down the line, or live an empty life for centuries?
Over the Rainbow Hill reminds me of the sweet moments of Brokeback Mountain and also Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. I teared up several times, both in happiness and sadness.
This book overlaps with the end of Dragon Wagon Refuge and I recommend reading that first, though it works as a stand-alone.

Disclaimer: I'm a tough judge and rarely rate 5 stars. All of my reviews are spoiler free.
Elayne is rapidly becoming one of my favorite cozy authors. This book had depth, a sense of scale (important to an immortal character) and a sense of how life cycles affect one's sense of optimism (ie, gaining and losing it over and over).
The story contains a slow-burn romance, flashbacks, side quests, and of course, tons of interesting animals, as is the author's tendency. :)
Unique to this book is a QR code that leads to a VERY special song, which I've never seen before!
Absolutely lovely tale that had me wanting to read more of her work right away.

Heartfelt Cozy Fantasy
Go along with the characters in this book with appearances from previous books’ characters on lifelong pursuits of growing and finding meaning despite it all. Wish there were more books in this world to read, but I’ve run out :( Thank you, Elayne Griffith!

good but the first 2 were more to my taste
The romance was sweet, the work descriptions were nice. However I found too much overlap/repeat from book 1, and not my fav resolution. Still a nice read.
