She was trained to kill. He was trained to heal. Trapped together in a war zone, can they trust each other long enough to outrun the Russian mafia—or will betrayal be their undoing?
Braxton Thorin left behind a life of safety in Tacoma, hoping to make a difference in Ukraine. War wasn’t supposed to be this personal, but every moment on the front lines tests his courage—and his conscience. When fate throws him into the path of a mysterious soldier with icy blue eyes and a lethal edge, he can’t help questioning how far he’s willing to go to keep her alive.
Daria Melnichenko learned early that survival means shutting out the world, and no one has ever slipped through her defenses. Raised to fight, to deceive, and to kill, she’s never allowed herself the luxury of love. Yet something about Braxton’s unshakable humanity makes her wonder if she can finally stop running from the darkness closing in.
As bullets fly and shadows close around them, one question remains: can they survive each other’s secrets—and dare to trust in a love forged by danger itself? Or will the horrors of war tear them apart long before they ever find out?
Perfect for fans of SJ Tilly’s Alliance series and Jill Ramsower’s The Byrne Brother series. Mission Shift is a high-stakes, action-packed romantic suspense where loyalty is tested, trust is fragile, and love may be the only thing strong enough to endure the fire.
Mission Shift is the third and final book in Evie James’s Broken Heroes trilogy. Readers will most enjoy Mission Shift if they’ve read Night Shift and Day Shift first.

Book 3 the last in the Thorin brothers series and I’m lost for words on how to review this book.
Evie has written a book where I have been on the edge of my seat more time than any other book I have read, I have loved this book so much how Evie has been able to write a book that covers politics, mafia and romance.
I can’t say more as for me it would give the story away, it’s a definite must read
i have been eagerly waiting for his story and damn was the wait worth it. braxton and daria are so much fun. their story is definitely a ride though. they both have some issues but they are clearly eachother's perfect match. i loved the banter between the two of them a lot. and the spice? yes please! i will always be down for some spice and evie does such a great job with that. i was eating it all up and just didn't want to put the book down. another masterpiece by evie james and i cant wait to see/read what she creates next.
What to expect: - Enemies to Lovers - Secret Identity - Forced Proximity - Opposites Attract - Kidnapped - Fish Out of Water - Romantic Suspense
I loved this one! Fast paced, relevant and excellent banter, Braxton and Daria's story was such a ride! When Braxton is hiding in a war zone, he's found by a soldier...or something...and his entire life is upended once again. When she ends up rescuing him instead of taking him to her boss, he realizes she is far more than she lets the world see.
Daria has always been tough. Needing to adapt or die, she's deep in the brutality of the Mafia world. Risking everything to save a random American in the middle of a war may not been one of her best ideas, but it's definitely been one of the most interesting and life changing.
This was such a sweet romance. Survival binds them together, but they eventually end up falling for each other anyway, and the path they take to get to this point is brutal and unforgiving. Yet maybe, it'll be worth the pain.
Romantic Suspense / Enemies to Lovers / Forced Proximity / HEA
Broken Heroes Book Three - Braxton Thorin, an EMT, is in Ukraine helping where he can when his transport is targeted and he runs for shelter. Daria Melnichenko is a double agent who discovers him. She is trained to kill, where he is trained to save lives. This story is jam-packed with adventure, suspense, and a good bit of spice. Imagine you’re watching a James Bond film or Mission Impossible … there is always an explosive beginning … OH MY … this book has it. This is the final book of the series, and Evie did not disappoint. I had the great privilege of doing a buddy read with April @thelarlbookworm, and what a fun experience to be able to share this with her. We had an eight-hour time difference to deal with, but we still had so much fun. Many thanks to Evie James for the opportunity to read/review this advance copy.
Absolutely loved this book! Action packed, HOT, romantic. Love getting to know Daria’s backstory. Daria is a fierce, bad ass woman. Braxton - LOVE HIM! Adore the ending! Loved reading this book! If you haven’t already read night shift and day shift, then do so! You’re definitely missing out! The Thorin Brothers - adore them.
I could say soo much about this book but I’m not going to. You’re going to have to read it!!
4.25 ⭐️ This was a great third book in the series! Mafia/medical romance that started with a bang and kept up an action packed pace. Perfect amount of spice and character development.
OMG!!!! Mission Shift was nothing short of fantastic. Another fanfreakingtastic read!!!! And chapters 10 39 and 41 was spicy!!!! Screaming about how good this book is! Braxton and Daria is the ultimate fighting power couple.
Initially, what got me wanting to read this book was the fact that it is based during the Russian and Ukrainian war. Being a Ukrainian myself, born and raised for 9 years , I was really touched that someone has included such an important real life issue in a book. I personally enjoyed this book so much! You basically have a disowned russian mafia princess and an American paramedic who is linked with the rival russian mafia boss .(This is set on the fringes of Ukraine/Russia and the war between the two). They meet accidentally under life threatening circumstance, both seeking shelter for different reasons. She decides to help him cross the boarder because she felt sorry for him and just as you think they might make it, it all goes south. It was so fast paced and action packed that I didn't want to put it down! I may or may not have ignored my family for a little bit. It was written in a way that I myself found easy to visualise as I was reading. They were sooooo close to getting to somewhat safety in the first quarter of the book, then she gets captured. It all just goes down hill from there for about 50% of it ! There are descriptions of (TW) pain, torture and SA during her capture/interrogation before she is finally taken away to heal. During those 2 weeks , it flips between POVs where you see Braxton absolutely losing it trying to make a plan to save her and figure out where she is. Then you get Darias POV who is no damsel in distress. She is angry and is planning her own rescue. The last quarter had me on pins because safety wasn't certain yet and it had me convinced that something else was going to go wrong. But instead it was Braxton being a teddy bear and convincing Daria she deserves safety and love and she isn't alone anymore 😭. Also , bare in mind they are apart for at least half of this book in the middle of the story, so when they are reunited, you have 20 pages in a row of lovemaking that makes up for it 🤣 It wasn't just an enjoyable read either but educational. Contains real, factual information about the issue people face in those countries which makes it all the more emotional. Thank you Evie for choosing me to be a part of your team and for the beautiful PR box. It has been such a special read and you did a beautiful job ❤️

Okay, so "Mission Shift" by Evie James? Wow. Just wow. This book completely blew me away. It's the final book in the Broken Heroes trilogy, and it's not just your typical romantic suspense. It's a heart-wrenching, action-packed story about finding hope and healing in the darkest of places, and the love story? It's intense and beautiful all at once.
You've got Braxton, who's this compassionate paramedic – like, the guy just wants to heal people – and he gets thrown right into the middle of a war zone. Then there's Daria. Man, she's a Russian spy – tough as nails, deadly, and super, super complex. She's been through some seriously messed-up stuff, and she's built these walls to survive, you know? So, these two meet, and it's not all sunshine and rainbows. It's this electric connection, this mix of attraction and this deep need to find someone who gets them, even though they're on opposite sides. Watching them go from being wary of each other to falling for each other amidst all this danger and betrayal? I was hooked. I was so invested in seeing how they'd navigate all that.
Daria is one of those characters that sticks with you, you know? She's not your typical heroine. She's been through hell, and it's made her this incredibly strong person, but also really guarded. Seeing her slowly start to trust Braxton, to let him see her vulnerability? Man, that stuff is both heartbreaking and hopeful. You're just rooting for her so hard to find some peace. And Braxton? He's not your typical alpha male at all. He's got this quiet strength and this unwavering belief in Daria, even when she's pushing him away, even when she's giving him every reason not to. I loved that about him. He sees the good in her, the person she could be, and he's willing to fight for that.
The story itself is intense, like, intense. There are action scenes that put you right there in the middle of it all – you can practically feel the heat and the danger – but it's also balanced with these really tender, vulnerable moments between Braxton and Daria. It's not just about the explosions and the fighting; it's about how these two people connect on a really deep level, even when everything around them is falling apart. It's about how even in the worst situations, people can find hope and love. Honestly, this book had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I was laughing, I was crying, I was on the edge of my seat, and the ending? So satisfying. It wrapped everything up in a way that felt earned and real. If you're into stories with strong, complex characters, a plot that grips you from the first page and doesn't let go, and a romance that'll make you feel all the feels, you HAVE to read this. It's a wild ride, but it's so worth it.
Is it really possible to get better than three brothers who are super hot and have a desire to save lives? The Thorin brothers series gives us just that. Book one was Atticus, the doctor. Book two was Conan, the nurse. And now we get Braxton, the EMT. This book was so great because it gave us something so different from the other two in that the two main characters meet in the middle of war, not at home or in the the hospital. What I love about this series is how amazing the Thorin brothers are as people. They see the worst there is to offer and they still can see the good in the world. The writing in this book is something so special. I have adored this series since the first time I read one of the books and this third and final of the series absolutely did not disappoint. The chemistry between the two main characters was explosive and the story was just so good that I almost didn’t want it to end. I thought the tie in with the war in the Ukraine was so fantastic and the research that James does for her writing brings that little extra to the story.
If you asked me if I could love a Thorin brother more than Conan, I would have told you that you were crazy. And then along comes Braxton. He’s a guy that wants to do so much good in the world that he volunteers to assist US and Ukrainian forces. He is strong and caring. He sees the good in people, including Daria. He fights for her. He falls for her hard. And Daria could easily be someone that we all hate. She is a Russian spy and for all intents and purposes, the enemy. But she went through so much in her life. She went through so much trauma in her life who made her who she is. But her connection to Braxton is something special and makes for a fantastic pair.
I’m not sure if Evie could do wrong in my eyes, but she definitely hit it out of the park with Mission Shift. I was so in love with the previous books in this series, that I never expected to love this one as much as I do. Of course there are some wonderful spicy scenes, but honestly I completely fell for the story. This was another amazing book in this series and the only bad thing is that it is the third and final brother in the series. This is definitely a book worth reading and I would recommend it to anyone.
Evie James delivers a knockout punch with Mission Shift, a book that had me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. This is more than just a romantic suspense novel; it's a story about finding hope and healing in the midst of unimaginable darkness.
Braxton and Daria are a phenomenal pairing. The contrast between Braxton, the healer thrown into the chaos of war, and Daria, the hardened soldier trained to kill, creates a compelling dynamic. Their chemistry is electric, fueled not only by attraction but also by a deep need for connection. I was completely invested in their journey, rooting for them to overcome their past traumas and find solace in each other.
The plot is expertly crafted, filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing. The action sequences are intense and realistic, painting a vivid picture of the war zone they're trying to survive. James doesn't shy away from the brutality of war, but she also weaves in moments of tenderness and vulnerability that make the story all the more powerful.
What truly sets Mission Shift apart is its exploration of trust, loyalty, and the enduring power of love. Daria's gradual opening up to Braxton, despite her ingrained distrust, is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Braxton's unwavering belief in her goodness, even when faced with her secrets, is a testament to his character.
If you're a fan of SJ Tilly or Jill Ramsower, you absolutely need to read this book. But even if you're just looking for a gripping, emotional read with a swoon-worthy romance, Mission Shift will not disappoint. It's a perfect blend of suspense, action, and heart, and a truly satisfying conclusion to the Broken Heroes trilogy. I highly recommend it!
The story follows Braxton, Dania, and their very unorthodox not so meet-cute!
Who am I kidding?
This is a brilliant enemies-to-lovers wrapped inside a punishing and war-torn story that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the moment you start to read...
It was a complete change of pace to the previous books, but I needn't have worried, Evie crafted a fantastic story while still remaining sensitive to the ongoing situation of a very real/present war.
I loved that this story was all about Braxton, and it was completely fitting that he chose to use his skills as a medic while distributing aid, etc, to those who needed it. It was so Braxton.
Braxton is a pretty straightforward guy, and I loved seeing how his character developed over time with meeting new people, the horror that he saw and was subjected to. The changes were cleverly entwined amongst the story and felt very natural.
Now Daria... I adored Daria.. the Ice Queen... the bad a$$... She is strong, resilient, and just the perfect ying to Braxton's yang... of course, it takes them a little while to work through everything.
Daria is incredibly fiesty and as the reader, you know she's been subjected to some really terrible things and has done some terrible things to get to where she is but that's what makes her all the more intriguing. Her character development was particularly entertaining to watch at times as you see her protective ice all slowly melting.
There is so much going on in this book!
I absolutely love Evie's writing, and with her new series coming our way in the future, I, for one, will be watching out for more by her!
5 Stars ⭐ HOLY. HELL. This book took me out. I don’t think I’ve ever cried, cussed, and swooned so hard in a single book. Mission Shift is the perfect end to the Broken Heroes trilogy—and Daria and Braxton? They’re EVERYTHING. Daria broke me. She’s been through hell—sold like property by her father, tortured by the Kremlin, forced to spy for a country she no longer believes in. And then Braxton shows up like this big, beautiful, soft-hearted American paramedic with zero survival skills and a jawline you could cut glass with. She tries so hard not to care about him, but this man worms his way into her heart like it’s the most natural thing in the world. And Braxton? This dude risked his life going to Ukraine just to make a difference, and somehow ends up falling for a deadly Russian spy who could literally kill him in his sleep. But he doesn’t care. He sees the good in her—even when she can’t. And the way he fights for her? UGH. Instant book boyfriend. The chemistry? Nuclear. The action? Edge of your seat. The emotions? Buckle up. They go from enemies to lovers to betrayal to full-on falling hopelessly in love and I was THERE for every second. By the time all the Thorin brothers came back together and we got that happily ever after? Yeah. I was crying like a baby. Evie James absolutely nailed this. If you’ve read Night Shift and Day Shift, you are NOT ready for the emotional gut-punch that is Mission Shift. But it’s worth every tear. 10/10—would survive a Russian mafia manhunt just to read this again.
Five⭐️ A breathtaking conclusion to a powerful trilogy.
Mission Shift is the kind of book that grabs you by the throat on page one and doesn’t let go. This final installment in the Broken Heroes trilogy brings everything full circle—action, romance, heartbreak, redemption—and I couldn’t put it down.
Daria is one of the most complex heroines I’ve ever read. Raised by a brutal Russian mafia father and trained to be a killer, she’s hardened and fiercely capable—but deep down, you can feel her aching to be free. Watching her slowly let her guard down and begin to trust Braxton was deeply emotional and incredibly satisfying.
And Braxton? He may be quiet and steady, but his strength runs deep. He’s not your typical alpha, and that’s exactly what made me fall in love with him. His journey—from caretaker to someone who finally chooses his life, his love, and his future—is just as powerful as Daria’s.
Their enemies-to-lovers arc was perfectly paced, filled with tension, betrayal, and ultimately a love that felt hard-won and deeply earned. The heat is definitely there, but what really stood out to me was the emotional intimacy they build through shared danger and trust.
If you’ve followed the Thorin brothers from Night Shift to Day Shift, you’re going to love how Mission Shift ties everything together. The final chapters brought tears to my eyes and left me smiling through them. Highly recommend this series for anyone who loves romantic suspense with heart and grit.
Mission shift is the last book in the Broken Heroes series, and I must say this particular story is one of my favourites. Mafia x Medical romance, yes, please!
With the desire to make a difference, Braxton, a paramedic, has stepped up to volunteer in Ukraine. Throughout his mission, he stumbled upon Daria, a medic who volunteered, not knowing that she was, in fact, a Russian spy. Once their eyes lock onto each other, an immediate and striking connection radiates throughout the room.
Frankly, I can’t find the right words because this book completely captivated me. The banter, the chemistry, the spice, and the connection between these two had me falling onto my knees!! I'm always a fan of badass FMC, Daria has got to be one of my favourite characters. She was trained to kill since she was little, and that was all she knew. But when she met Braxton, she realized there was more to life than meets the eye. Stuck in the warzone, they are forced to work together to survive, but in the end, they can't help but fall for each other, and I don't blame them because they're so perfect for each other
I didn't want this series to end, but I can't wait to read what Evie has in store next. I highly recommend reading the Night Shift and Day Shift first, as they're interconnected but can also be read as standalone.
The final Thorin brother, Braxton, is finally getting his story. He is the EMT of the family, but primarily this story takes place in Ukraine during the ongoing war. Daria is a double agent who happens to come upon Braxton and from here the action really picks up in this story.
Braxton and Daria have an instant connection that neither of them really expected, but they are forced together and forced to have to work together in order to just survive. These two characters are an unlikely pair, yet they work well together and honestly they balance each other out very well. Braxton brings out a side to Daria that has been hidden deep inside her and I enjoyed seeing that side of her come out over time.
This story does deal with politics and a lot of heavy topics, so I recommend reading the warnings before diving into the story. I would also highly recommend reading Night Shift and Day Shift prior to this to fully understand some of the connections. It also makes the ending for this book mean so much more because it wraps up the Thorin brothers in a great way.
If you’re looking for a forced proximity, enemies to lovers, opposites attract, secret identity, suspense romance check this one out.
the wait is finally over! i’m so sad that the thrown brothers stories have come to and end but MAN what a finale of a book for this series!! EVIE!!!! You so did not disappoint this girly one bit!!
I’ve always been extremely impressed with Evie’s writing because you can always tell the amount of research she does based on the extensive amounts of descriptive details and such, I LOVE THIS👏🏼👏🏼 It really helps with creating an image of the scenes in my mind!!
Braxton is the youngest of the Thorin brothers, and EMT who has gonna overseas to assist America and Ukraine during the wars. Special selection puts him in the most unfortunate of situations, until a princess like woman with icy blonde hair appears and throws his whole world upside down.
Daria is far from a princess, more like Russian warrior spy solider if we’re trying to make things simple. Her fiesta personality mixed with extensive childhood and war trauma is exactly who I expected someone like Braxton to fall for…until he finds out she’s the enemy.
Will they stay enemies forever or will they have to unite as one to survive the war?? Guess you’ll have to read to find out🥰
Rating ~ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice ~ ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Overall ~ 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 (can you give 6? oh well i did anyway hehe)
‼️Read the TWs before reading your mental health matters‼️ Oh how do I start this review. Gosh Evie I’m sad that the Thorin books are over but you ended them with a bang. To say I was on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering what else was going to go wrong and what else was going to happen, my nails have gone down to nubs 😂 with all the suspense. Braxton oh sweet, loving Braxton gets in a pickle when the van he’s in gets ambushed, he runs and hides in a house. Thinking he might be safe someone comes in as well and he gets into a fight with a woman being Daria, him trying to talk and her speaking Russian. Not backing down he pulls his own, but of course that would the end of it. When they hear a sound of an engine running, the woman goes outside talks to the Russians and she figures Braxton can be a help to her. Daria is a bad ass who has gone through hell she’s the daughter of the bratva and bring a man down to his knees. But meeting Braxton she feels a need to protect him no matter the cost. I love how all the Thorin brothers and Samantha and Angel come back in the end. Was I happy to read more about them yes, yes I was. I’m sad to see them go but hopefully they make future appearances in other books.
Where do I even begin? This story was everything. This series is easily one of my absolute favorites!
Do you need a new book boyfriend? How about 3 absolutely amazing MMCs? Braxton is the middle Thorin brother.
Braxton is fiercely protective, brave, a dreamer with a heart of gold, and loyal! He leaves his life as a paramedic behind to new adventures in the East. Wanting to make a difference, Braxton gets way more than he bargained for.
Daria was thrown into a life she didn't want at a young age. She was programmed to be the best of the best, to fight, to be a Soldier. Daria fights against all odds and decides to take a different path.
This book will open your eyes, take you on a wild suspenseful ride, all while a budding romance between 2 people with completely different backgrounds fall in love.
The spice was spicin, the obstacles Braxton and Daria had to overcome to be together, the last chapter, (ifykyk) was a perfect ending to the Broken Heroes trilogy.
I'm obsessed with these characters and stories and am eagerly waiting for whatever Evie writes next!
This was such a rollercoaster of a story, from the very beginning I knew this book was going to be an emotional and action pack love story!
Braxton and Daria met in the middle a war zone. Braxton is there volunteering trying to make a difference while he runs into trouble and goes into hiding never imagining that he will me meeting a woman who will change him forever.
Daria is a double agent who is trying to make a difference in a war that is unfair. Her upbringing has made her the woman she is today. Calculative and with a cold exterior who isn't proud of the things she has done. After meeting Braxton her layers start peeling because he is an unexpected distraction that makes her wonder the what ifs.
Braxton and Daria go through so much, finding love and hope in the most extreme situations. They're both put through a test of survival, trust and love that definitely enjoyed reading.
☞Enemy to Lover ☞Kidnapped ☞Forced Proximity ☞War zone ☞Reverse Grumpy/sunshine
If you want to read a medical, mafia, War zone Love Story, this is the book for you.
Evie James tackle some heavy subjects throughout this book. Including a lot of information about the Ukrainian war. Though it is a romance book it includes a lot of real life situations that are applicable to today.
She does a great job, educating the readers and encouraging them to learn more about the war between Russia and Ukraine, which is currently ongoing.
This book is still a romance and offers hope to a war zone in which sometimes it does not seem like there is.
The romance between Daria and Braxton starts out as an enemies to lovers romance. Now I am a huge sucker for enemies to lovers so I loved the way that their relationship evolved over time. And the way they were able to build trust between each other because I feel it’s important to know that love is built on trust and I thought it was such a beautiful thing to see develop.
This book is so good. I highly encourage others to read it. It does a great job incorporating war, the mafia and romance all into one.
A hot button topic of a romance in a war zone between two people supposedly on opposing sides. Braxton Thorin is an American EMS medic providing humanitarian aid, and Daria Melnichenko is a Lt. Colonel in the Elite Russian forces as well as being a double agent helping Ukraine. This is an intriguing spy thriller of a love story heavily involved with trigger warning activities which I won’t list here. There’s a lot of action including: captives, prisons, car chases, skinny dipping, hiking, camping, espionage, tracking, border crossing, medical exams by evil doctors, spy stuff, dangerous stuff, and very sexy spicy stuff. This book is extremely well written and relevant to our current political climate. There are surprise appearances and revelations from beloved characters in previous books of the series, including Murphy making a new friend. What an exciting conclusion to the Broken Heroes trilogy. If there are future spin off books to come, count me in!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Definitely worth the wait!! Evie isn’t playing around with this one as we pretty much jump straight into the action from the get go! I couldn’t put it down and found my self going back for a re read of my favourite parts just because I wasn’t ready for it to be over!
The river scene? The mirror? Damn Evie girl, you sure know how to make us sweat!
Daria is definitely in my top 5 favourite FMCs!! Her character development, who she is as a person, reading about why she does what she does, I just wanted to hug her! Or ask her to tech me some of her moves haha!
I’m fully obsessed and absolutely adore Evie’s writing, the way she tells the story, the detail, the characters, the romance.. all absolutely incredibly captivating!
Hold on to your kindles babes, this one’s coming in and over 540 pages!! Did I binge it in one sitting? You bet your booty I did!
10/10 Definitely recommend adding this to your TBR!!
Mission Shift by Evie James is the last book in the Broken Hero Trilogy. This was a 5 star read for me and my favorite book I have read this year!
Daria is such a complex character, she is a assassin/soldier. Growing up showing any emotion was seen as a weakness.
Braxton is an EMT who is just a great guy! He goes to Ukraine against his family wishes to help distribute medical care and food to those in need.
Braxton and Daria meet after his transportation is compromised and it's action packed from there. Now they are stuck together in a war zone not knowing if they can trust each other we'll also trying to fight their attraction to each other. Side not it's funny how Daria reacts to Braxton showing her attention😂
I loved Braxton and Daria's story and they had such great banter and chemistry! I like how Daria brought out the more serious side of Braxton and how Braxton shows Daria what it's liked to truly be cared for and how to appreciate the little things.
If you like romantic suspense, forced proximity, super hot chemistry this is the book for you! This but can be read as a standalone but if you want to read about the other brothers you can go read Day Shift and Night Shift!
Ok wow! This story gives a whole new meaning to romantic suspense. It begins in Russia during current times. Today’s conflict plays out front and center, depicted so clearly you really feel like you’re there. It’s edge of your seat action for much of the book and I loved it.
The characters were very well written. I loved their intense emotions and the protectiveness they have for each other. Daria was raised to be a soldier by her mafia father. She’s struggled with her past actions and is trying to make a difference going forward. Braxton sought adventure from his everyday EMT life. Little did he know the world he was heading to when he volunteered in Ukraine. Together they are thrown into many suspenseful situations and learn a lot about trust, alliances and friendship. It was a great book!
Mission Shift by Evie James had me hooked from the beginning.
The quick and spicy reasons why you’ll love this book:
Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️ Forced proximity Grumpy/sunshine She saves him Military romance Found family High-stakes survival Strong female lead
The book is set in the war stricken areas of Ukraine and Russia. The is a dual POV and follows Daria and Braxton. Their journey is packed with action, danger, and chemistry. Daria completely stole the show for me — she’s fierce, resilient, and absolutely unbreakable. I loved how strong and capable she was, even in the her darkest moments.
Braxton is the ultimate Boy Scout with a soft heart, brings balance to her intensity and shows her there’s more to life than just surviving.
This book also includes some raw and outspoken dialogue about the war, so I recommend checking the trigger warnings before diving in.
The third installment in the Broken Heroes series kicks off with high-stakes action as Braxton Thorin is introduced mid-mission in a war-torn zone. He crosses paths with Daria under intense circumstances, and despite initial mistrust, they’re forced to rely on each other. Daria saves Braxton, only to be captured in exchange for his safety—an unexpected twist that adds to the suspense. Then Braxton uses his connections to save Daria from a fate worse than death.
Though reading Day Shift and Night Shift isn’t required, it helps understand the Thorin brothers’ dynamic, especially the connection between Braxton and Nik. This gripping romantic suspense is packed with twists, betrayals, and revelations, making it a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat read.
TW: There is some torture, violence, and death. Be prepared.
Braxton has left his safe life in Tacoma and his job as a paramedic and travelled to Ukraine as volunteer, handing out food parcels and treating minor injuries. Daria is a soldier, raised to fight, deceive, kill and win. She doesn’t trust and doesn’t love. When Braxton and Daria find themselves trapped they must work together to survive not only the war zone but also the Russian Mafia and all of the secrets they’re both hiding from the other.
How I loved this story! The war backdrop, the mafia undercurrents, the danger, the secrets, the love story- every page was a ride and I never wanted it to end! Brax is my favourite brother now I think, though they’ve each been my favourite at one point. And Daria is the best type of FMC! I’m so sad this series is now over because I love the Thorin brothers so much 😭😭
5⭐️ 3🌶️ 🪖Enemies to Lovers Secret Identity 🏠Forced Proximity 👩❤️💋👨Opposites Attract 😳Kidnapped 🐟🎣Fish Out of Water ❤️🩹Romantic Suspense
I seriously can’t even decide which book is the best in this trilogy. This book was action packed, I didn’t want to put it down. The whole military aspect and how Daria and Braxton met was everything. I loved how they were strangers to lovers then became enemies and eventually lovers again. Going back and getting to know Nikolai more was amazing. Then Evie James brought up twilight references at the end which had me laughing. When Daria saved the dog, that made my heart so happy. Braxton is my new book boyfriend. I loved how he would literally put his life on the line to save his woman. This trilogy is a must read!
