Falling For You

Taylor
Hockey has been my life for as long as I can remember.
It kept me out of trouble growing up,
It gave me purpose.
I didn’t think I was missing anything.
The ice, the family, the girls….
What more could a man in his prime need.
Well, her, apparently.
She took my interest instantly, and deep down, I knew she was the one.
She was the light I never knew I needed.
But after a night full of passion, she was gone.
I spent months trying to find her, only to realize she was right underneath my nose,
Being kept away from me by someone the team trusted and now, she no longer trusts me.
Outside parties don’t want us together,
And she has her guard up,
But she needs to understand that I get what I want,
And what I want is her, always.
So get ready, my firecracker, I’m coming for you.

Penelope
I was always told who I married would be chosen for me,
That I must live by my family’s name.
But I was the black sheep.
Not wanting to be in a loveless marriage,
I rebelled as much as I could,
Adamant to live my life to the fullest.
Until I met him.
He consumed me, and I realized he could be my life if I let him,
That he could be my everything.
After a night of passion, I panicked, and I ran,
But I ran with something that belonged to him.
And I knew I had to find him,
But other forces didn’t want us together,
They kept us apart until the universe had other ideas.
We bumped into each other again, and the connection, the spark, had doubled.
But I was harder and more cornered off; it didn’t stop him though.
He wanted me and was determined to have me,
But the confusion was consuming me.
Did he want me, or did he want what was his?
Do I give him a chance, or run as far as my feet could take me….

Really good

I wasn't sure how I would feel as I love her darker books. But even though this has a lunatic in it, the book is actually sweet. Taylor falls hard for Penelope, I can't believe how long it actually took them before they actually ran into each other again. They make a great couple.

Hockey was everything to Taylor and winning the cup was his main goal. He wasn't anywhere near ready to settle down until one night he meets Penelope and knows she is his game changer. One night though is all they have because when he wakes up she is gone. Taylor does everything he can think of to find her but ends up with nowhere.

Penelope has been doing everything she can to find Taylor but has gotten nowhere. Her life has been in a tailspin since the night she spent with Taylor but has hit nothing but dead ends and hurdles. When she finds Taylor again she finds herself confused with what she wants and what is the right thing to do. Taylor is going to prove to Penelope she can have it all, will she believe him?

Really enjoyed this one. Second chance romance and the couple was amazing. Another great one from this author.

This was an ok reading.
Hero is a hockey player, he meets the heroine at a bar and they have a ONS. She’s the daughter of two lawyers that wants their daughters to marry men of their choosing because they want to increase their clients.
The heroine refuses and she becomes a nurse.
After the ONS she leaves the hero’s room without waking him up.
He looks for her desperately.
He basically fell for her in insta love and decides he will give one year to finding her.
The heroine realizes she’s pregnant and finds out he’s a famous hockey player.
Sadly it’s not so easy since he has an agent that is psycho obsessed with him so she blocks the heroine and even gives her a restraining order, the heroine asks her father to help but apparently he’s not able to do it because of psycho agent.
In the end they will meet thanks to some friends. She already has had his son.
Psycho ow drama again, with the delusional woman who is not stopped by anything and manages to hurt the heroine, not severely though.
Some op drama, her sister married a wife beater and then cheated on him with her brother in law.
Another brother of the hero is divorcing his gold digging wife.
The book is quick reading, low angst and completely safe. There’s insta love from his part.
The hero is celibate for one year because he wants to find the love of his life, I think since he’s such a famous character he could have used the media, but he did not, and so the heroine could. Today it’s basically impossible to stay hidden. The hero though, even if he’s sometimes naive, as when he allows psycho ow agent to dictate his public image, and pretends to date a woman, is really a darling. He only ever had the heroine in his mind and in his heart and was never tempted by any other woman which I appreciate very much. He was very believable with his obsession, even when it seemed too ott, but for once it’s good to see a hero who’s not victim of his baser instincts as if he were 16.
The heroine is a pleasant woman. She is no doormat and she is a bit slower to fall for him.
She’s 22, very young, but she’s mature enough.
Her parents change when they realize they put their daughters in danger forcing them to men who were evil and vicious. This part is a bit rushed.
I can recommend it to my safety friends and to those who looks for a quick and entertaining reading.

There are so many plot holes in this book that it frustrates me. I liked the whole pregnancy thing and Elena preventing them meeting again etc. but everything else was just a mess.

It honestly felt like the author just swapped MC for hockey. It felt like a repeat of many previous books.

First off we have the marriage contracts that make no sense. Her parents are both wealthy, successful lawyers with their own firm. But somehow need to sell their daughters for a very measly 100k? Like some kind of archaic dowry.
Then there’s the fact that MMC for almost a year, doesn’t meet the FMC again. Despite him having the means to find her, knows the same people, his niece in the hospital she works at. It’s a bit too much. Heck he even knows her sisters name, knows who she married and yet doesn’t ask about her? It’s weak and badly thought out.

And then to top it off, we have the weird ending with Elena. I really hate books that feature OW that aren’t actually OW. There was no relationship just one night. And she is sleeping with numerous other sportsmen yet her only focus is Taylor? Why? And in the end her grand plan is to steal the FMC own jewellery and make it look like the FMC stole it? That mashed no sense! You’d just assume someone else stole it or you lost it somewhere. Her second plan is to trash the place and make it look like the FMC did it… despite the fact that the FMC lives there.
Also I find it odd that despite the author being a parent herself, she has written very unrealistic developments of a baby. Babies don’t act like that at only 2 months, they certainly don’t start saying words at 6 months either!.

Whilst I applaud the author for putting in a much more concerted effort to deal with the issues of grammatical errors. It seems that more work needs to be put into pot outlining and research

h sees H with OW = h was saw the H kissing OW who the news reported was his girlfriend. In reality, OW was a past ONS from years before and jumped up to kiss the H which cameras caught and the H's publicist claimed the H had to now be considered dating the ONS so that there would not be any bad press...dumb, but H went along with it and went on "dates" until he could "break up" with the ONS.

OW drama = it was so in the background but still big part of the story weirdly enough. OW was the publicist for the H who he had slept with twice in the past when drunk. OW stalked the H relentlessly trying to get him to be with her. OW to h? She blocked the h in every way possible from the H, getting h banned from arena, banned from bar, banned from apartment, interfering with H's attorney when h sent notice to H, having attorney issue a restraining order, etc, etc, etc. OW broke into H's apartment and got into physical fight with h, h won and OW was arrested. Comeuppance? OW fired, arrested and imprisoned.

F-preg = h got knocked up during her time with the H. h had been on BC, but the H never questioned it and never made any attempt to use a condom (subconscious breeding kink??). When they are reconciled, H again does not question or attempt to use any form of BC. h being the responsible one did use BC, but it again failed and in epilogue it seems that H is doing everything in his power to keep h barefoot and pregnant, ha!

Neither the h nor the H needed to grovel as they were both trying desperately to get back to one another but outside forces were keeping them apart. Neither cheated, flirted or implied wanting anything other than each other. For this author, a relatively tame book but still some juicy drama.

I’m just gonna say it. The writing is bad. The sentence structure sounds like something from a high school creative writing class. It’s just not good. It’s riddled with errors, but I can ignore typos. Sadly, it’s not just typos, it’s just the prose in general. And the dialogue is so contrived—no one talks like this!

Also, the drama in this book is so unrealistic. MMC spends 9 months searching for the FMC after one night together and doesn’t find out she got pregnant until he finds her and their baby, but she won’t “let her walls down” because she doesn’t know if he’s there for her or the baby? He didn’t even know about the baby!! The evil manager chick was like a comic book villain but stupid, and the characterization of the FMC’s parents and sister was wildly inconsistent.

And speaking of the FMC’s sister, she is set up with a “woman beater” (which is the weirdly old-fashioned phrase that is used throughout the book) in an arranged marriage by her family, and then the rest of the book, she is blamed by everyone in her family for getting her ass kicked by him because she “knew what she was getting into.” I mean, the sister is the most annoying character in the world, but the whole “We don’t blame her for getting hit, BUUUUUUUT she did know what she was getting into and also she provoked him” thing was just incredibly weird and distasteful. She is portrayed as a spoiled bitch, and at the end of the book, she is in an-patient treatment center because apparently being a bitch is a treatable medical condition that requires serious care. So weird!

Basically, no one in this book behaves, feels, or speaks the way normal human beings behave, feel, or speak, and it was a slog to get through.

Another beautiful story!! I loved Penelope and Taylor as a couple. Their love story was beautiful. Eventually everything worked out in their favour but I still feel bad that they had go through so much to get a chance together. But that only shows how much they loved each other and waited for their time to come when fate will get them together finally. I loved how they got to have their own beautiful family. I loved Taylor's family and friends and how they supported him when he told them about Penelope being his one.
And I honestly didn't like Penelope's family before but his father redeemed himself a little. I didn't like Avery which is not a surprise because she was entitled and selfish. She made decisions for herself by knowing everything beforehand and when it didn't work out for her, she blamed it on others. She wanted a lavish lifestyle but didn't want to work for it like Penelope. Honestly, she didn't deserve Penelope as a sister. Penelope deserved better than her. Well, at the she got what she sow and she really needed help which she got at last.
I really hated Xanthe, Elena and Harry. All three were pshyco. Thank god they got punished for what they did.
Overall it was a lovely story❤

Meh! I just don’t know how else to describe it.
The story was ok. The writing wasn’t perfect but it made it work.
The characters were infuriating: the FMC felt like a strong, opinionated young woman but somehow she moved to a doormat with the people who disowned her and left her in the worst time ever. But now they are fine! 🤯
Then the MMC fell instantly in love! Sure ok, but then he had all these clues as to where his woman was but somehow never managed to find her! Yeah that didn’t make sense!
The other characters were all right apart from Avery! What a shallow person who married for status and money to a woman beater and then felt like a victim but didn’t divorce him! She also had an ongoing affair with her brother-in-law and he married her know she just a spoiled brat who disowned her sister…. 🤯🤯
Yeah some of the stories into the story line were infuriating and that made me loose interest in this book!!

Unfortunately I DNF this at 51% and I tried so hard 😭

I love a good book by Charlotte McGinlay, especially her MC books.
But I really struggled with this one.. it felt so rushed and was everywhere at once.
I loved the concept of Falling for you and was so excited, but it just didn't deliver.

There were too many characters and I lost track of who was who and it became a messy read and some parts didn't really make sense? Especially when a famous hockey player can't even track down a single woman (even though she had his number?! 🤦🏻‍♀️) and she even looked after his niece in hospital too! There were definitely ways they both could have found one another and communicated with each other and that was quite irritating to read.

I do love Charlotte McGinlay books, but this one just didn't do it for me 💔

Could have been great

Overall, the plot was good, but there were a lot of issues that made it not a super likable book. First off the fact that Taylor knew his agent was causing problems and didn’t do anything about. It was a big plot hole. Players have control over who their agents are so this was just absurd. Secondly, the fact that she instantly is forgiving him after everything she’s been through is also ridiculous. But I think the thing that really sent me off the most was the fact that she forgave her parents. I would never do that to my kids and if I ever did, I definitely wouldn’t expect them to forgive me. This author writes some really decent plots, but some of her books just have bad characters and this happen to be one of them. I don’t regret reading it, but I won’t really think about it much after this either.

The H is the captain of a pro hockey team and the h is a newly graduated nurse. They meet when the team celebrates a team victory in a local bar. They have an ONS and she leaves early to avoid an awkward parting in the morning. He only knows her first name but still tries to find her. She gets pregnant but her ongoing attempts to communicate with him are thwarted by his evil, jealous agent. Despite some coincidental almost meetings, it is almost a year before they find each other. By that time their son is born. The h supposedly has some lingering trust issues because of her parents imposing their will on her and seeing her as a commodity for an arranged marriage. There are sideline stories about the h's sister as well as the H's brother.

I was pleasantly surprised!!

There was a moment reading near the beginning when the H explained how his sister in law baby trapped his brother. I remember thinking oh great, once she tells him that she is pregnant then he is going to freak and think she is baby trapping him too. I am honestly so happy that didn’t happen! Honestly, Charlotte McGinlay is really good with grovel so I wouldn’t have been upset if that was the story, I’m just happy it was different than expected.

Taylor (H) is a stand up guy and honestly amazing. He waits for her, which I love, tries to find her and doesn’t let her run once he does find her. I also like that the families weren’t against the couple like they are in a lot of books. Very refreshing and I enjoyed it a ton!

another one bites the dumb

Yes dumb not dust because it’s genuinely crazy how lacking in the brains and common sense department these characters are. It’s as if none of them have any idea that free will is a thing they can wield to get themselves out of their crappy situations. Considering all of them have “reputable and influential” careers you’d think they’d just easily remove the toxic people in their lives and yet, for no reason at all, the toxic people remain just for the sole and very obvious purpose of causing drama. So the vicious cycle of dumb delusion continues.

Very many grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book too which doesn’t bode well for the overall quality of the content.

a bit formulaic

This is an entertaining story but didn’t quite resonate with me. I usually enjoy this author’s books but this one isn’t up to what I expect from her.

I love that both MC’s stayed celibate when they were separated, what a refreshing change from the usual misogynistic trope. The MFC was a strong character but much too forgiving to her family imo.

The book needed a better editor, there were disjointed sentences and paragraphs throughout and the wrong words used in a few places. E.g. bain instead of bane.

Still worth a read.

Good book

I usually don't read hockey books because basically I know nothing about the sport. I enjoy Ms. McGinley books so I gave it a try and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed the story of Taylor and Penelope. It is a story of finding your true love but as we all know it won't be a smooth transition. There were ups and downs but that is what make a good book. Give this a try and I know you will enjoy it.

after a one night stand they both regret not having a way to contact eachother especially when she finds out he left her gift. he's the hockey player she didn't know about, she's the nurse his niece wants him to marry and they keep missing eachother while others get in the middle. when they finally cross paths both have strained hearts and fear. they slowly begin to find their way back with support of people sue less expected

It was ok. Pretty boring and not what I expected from the author, considering all of her other books. No real drama, and the angst fell flat as it was not really very angsty. There was no real reason for h to put up any resistance to being with H, when they reconnected. So her being resistant was just added to make drama, but didn't really make any sense to the plot.

Great Story!

I really enjoyed the story line and character development in this book. Did not enjoy the disconcerting amount of grammar and punctuation issues, nor the run-on sentences, throughout.

falling for you: a hockey second chance romance

Great storyline, the couple had complicated and’s misconceptions about each other. They had to go through many different phases to finally get to their happy ever after in this book.

Having a really hard time finishing this. MMC trying to find woman he slept with. Knows her name, where she works, her father’s name, where he works, his brothers friend is married to her sister, and he still can’t find her????? So ridiculous a whole book is based on this farce. And do some research of the most basic hockey terms. Face-off, or Puck drop; the term, “Puck off” is not a thing.

Wow! Once again Charlotte has written an extremely captivating story and I loved every bit of it. The passion between these 2, the certainty they felt deep down was just beyond words! Thank you Charlotte for another amazing book I couldn't put down.

good story but clunky

This is a good story. But it’s clunky. I feel as though there were parts of chapters that should’ve been separated into its own chapter. I feel as though there was a lot of words salad going on. But the story itself was really good. And the spice was great.
