This is easily one of the best stories I’ve read recently—I devoured it in just two days, completely unable to put it down. C.M. Rachels blends pulse-pounding action, mind-control science, spies, touches of the supernatural, shocking twists, and a forbidden romance into a mind-blowing thriller that demands to be read in one sitting.
Ruby and Michael are unforgettable leads—both broken yet strong, resilient, and tied together by undeniable chemistry. Their dynamic carries the story, making the emotional stakes just as gripping as the physical ones. The book gave me the same kind of vibes as Stranger Things mixed with The Winter Soldier: dark, intense, and action-packed from start to finish.
By the final page, you’re left breathless—and with the sense that a sequel may be on the horizon. Highly recommended for fans of thrillers with a supernatural edge, complex characters, and non-stop momentum.

Her Blood Calls by C.M. Rachels accomplishes its mission with flying red, white, and blue colors. It’s post-Cold War espionage with heart-pounding action and a non-stop, intense romance.
Michael Stewart is the protagonist who falls in love with a “civilian,” and her lost memory could cause everyone a whole lot of problems. At first, he has to find her, and when he does, it’s an explosive situation. Once these two spark, they sizzle.
She’s the reason for much more than any mission. Everything turns upside down: the mission, the past, the truth, and the bad guys who are closing in and that's where Rachel excels, Stewart kicks butt with very descriptive action scenes.
Watch out when you pick this one up. Once you start reading, you probably won't stop until the last page. It's fast-paced well-plotted, and will control your mind almost as much as one of the twists in Her Blood Calls.
I don’t know what I just read. The premise of this book is what interested me, but the story was a bit disjointed. In the end it’s about found family, but I don’t think the relationships at the end were earned through the story. There were some odd connections that still make no sense to me.
I also feel like there was a lot of repetitive story beats and even dialogue. It kept my attention, but I just don’t know.
