A sharp, unsettling psychological thriller

I really enjoyed Liar by C.L. Sutton. The story pulls you in quickly and doesn’t let go, with just the right amount of tension and twists to keep you guessing. The writing is sharp and well-paced, and the characters feel real, flawed, messy, and human.

Maisie, in particular, stood out. I couldn’t decide if I liked her or not, and honestly, that’s part of what made the book so interesting. She’s clearly a narcissist, which makes it hard to empathize with her, but at the same time, there’s something fascinating about watching her unravel. You’re never quite sure what’s real and what’s being spun.

I liked that the book didn’t offer easy answers or clear heroes and villains. Everyone’s a little unreliable in their own way, and it makes for a really engaging read. Definitely one I’d recommend if you like dark, character-driven thrillers that mess with your head a bit.

Final verdict: I’d recommend Liar to readers who appreciate morally tangled characters and high-stakes psychological tension. It isn’t easy comfort reading but it’s undeniably potent reading.

🐺🤥📱

The young lesson sticks with a lot of us regarding "a boy who cries wolf." The message being that lies can hold great consequences and might prevent one from getting help when actually needed.

What can you do when you lie about anything and everything, big and small. Lies becoming a reflex and coming out without comprehension of the cost. I was suspecting one person as the main culprit but eventually realized the lurking character that held so much twisted demons inside them. The way I wanted to scream and throw my phone because of the "inability to speak." SPIT IT OUT! People will eventually hear you out if they've given second chances before.

Nobody is guaranteed forgiveness, and when our ugliest of flaws come through, we learn who is truly in our corner. The people who love us unconditionally can be what holds us back and what has potential to push us forward.

Give this book a go as you are certain to take on the anxiety and stress felt through the undeserving events in this story! Amazing job!

After a lie to win back her ex spirals out of control, Maisie finds herself trapped in a web of deception. What started as harmless quickly turns dangerous - and when her made-up threats start happening for real, no one believes her.

Tense, twisty, and full of mind games, Liar pulls you into a gripping spiral of paranoia and doubt. The tension builds with each chapter, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story flips again. A smart, suspense-filled thriller that plays with truth, trust, and the price of being believed.

Thank you to C.L.Sutton for offering me an ARC of your fantastic story, I really enjoyed it.

Lies have a way of catching up with you

"Since I was a little girl, I've struggled with honesty. Lying came so naturally to me. Lying made me visible. It drew people closer. It made me feel substantial. Now, ironically, I wish I were invisible."

It starts with a small lie, that soon spirals out of control. Maisie learns too late that crying wolf has deadly consequences.

This was the second book, I've read by this author and it did not disappoint. I was hooked from the start and couldn't put it down. Especially loved Maisie's character development. It's dark, twisty and unsettling

Thank you, C.L. Sutton and for giving me the chance to read and review an advanced copy (digital format).

🕸️ A True Web of Lies 🕸️

Maisie’s desperate lies kept me utterly hooked from page 1 🪝 I couldn’t put it down and read this in one sitting!!

Her lies just keep tripping off her tongue even when her whole world was unravelling around her. Driven by her frantic, neurotic need to be seen and heard, the lies just keep coming … until they don’t!

A deeply disturbed, narcissistic MFC whose unraveling was impossible to look away from.

It’s wild how just one thought, one decision, can spiral into total destruction.

If you’re into psychological thrillers with unreliable narrators, this one’s a must-read. Highly recommend!

Review: Liar by C.L. Sutton

This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. The twists kept coming, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough—I just had to know what would happen next.

I’ll be honest: I hated the main character. But oddly enough, that made the story even more compelling. The character’s flaws added tension and depth, and ultimately made the reading experience better.

If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller that keeps you guessing and doesn't let up, Liar is a solid pick. Quick, tense, and utterly addictive.

My first thriller by Clare Sutton. It did not disappoint.

When you’ve got so little, it’s so easy to lose everything. A world full of lies and deception, the ever growing blurred lines between reality and make believe. It can’t possible go on forever. Can it?

This book kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was coming next. I had so many conflicting feelings for the main character. Each chapter took a new turn and kept me wanting more. Finished the book in two days.

A twisty tale of deception!

Maisie is a compulsive liar. She does my mean to do it she just finds that it makes life more bearable for her. When she tells her boyfriend Caleb another lie, this one much worse that the ones before there is continuing back from the events that happen. Only someone is watching her who knows the truth and is only too happy to expose her secrets.

A great tense read. Couldn’t put it down.

I read this book voluntarily for an honest review.

First book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be my last. Maisie’s tales and lies had me amused and annoyed all at the same time. I can’t tell you the number of times I had to pick my jaw off the floor. A quick read, short chapters and pulled me in from the very beginning, keeping my interest till the very end.

One little lie can change the lives of many. When a little lie to fix a fight within a relationship, up ends the lives of many people.

That one little lie caused so much heartbreak for many. Between love of family, friends, and significant others. The length one will take, a little lie, has grown to be a huge issue for the FMC.

This was another fantastic read from this author. This book was unhinged and I didn’t know I’d be in for a roller coaster of a ride. I definitely did not guess the ending and the whole story just had me in a chokehold. Safe to say I have found a new favorite author! Just give this one a read!

If you're into twisty thrillers with a bit of drama and a whole lot of tension, this one’s for you. Maisie is the kind of character who constantly craves attention, and when she tells one small lie to fix her broken relationship, things spiral fast. What starts as a harmless fib turns into a full-on mess—especially when the lies she made up start happening for real.

This book keeps you guessing the whole way through. It’s got a great mix of suspense, secrets, and a main character who you’re not always sure you can trust (but you’ll definitely root for). It’s a wild ride with some real “wait, what?!” moments, and it’s perfect if you love stories where the stakes keep getting higher and no one’s quite who they seem.

Wow—this book completely consumed me! Liar by C.L. Sutton follows Maisie, a compulsive liar who constantly craves attention. Her lies start small but quickly spiral out of control until someone catches on… and then things turn deadly.

I could not put this down. I lost sleep over it—literally stayed up with burning eyes just to see how far Maisie would go and whether she’d manage to claw her way out or fall deeper into the chaos she created. It’s a gripping story full of deception, danger, and consequences that keep piling up with every chapter.

An addictive, edge-of-your-seat read that had me hooked from start to finish.

Maisie starts off with a lie to make things go the way she wants. The lie turns into many lies to cover up her original lie. Things quickly spiral out of hand and then things get crazy! There were so many WTF moments in this book! Everybody becomes a suspect at some point in the book and the ending was definitely unexpected! A great read!
