It didn’t take long for news to spread that Tagger Grange was back in Peachtree Pass. I found out even faster when I fell right into his arms—not by choice.
The barstool wobbled under me when reaching for a cheddar biscuit. They’re my weakness. Much like he used to be.
Rolled up sleeves and tailored pants have replaced the boots and jeans my brother’s best friend once wore. But it’s not just the clothes that have changed. His shoulders are broader and he’s broodier. Somehow, he's even more handsome than ever.
And seeing the little boy smiling at his side? My heart instantly melts. I can't handle Tagger as a hot single dad.
Since he has no plans to stay, I know it’s best to avoid him. But daily run-ins at Rollingwood Ranch make him hard to ignore, and even harder to walk away.
His heated glances warm my insides, his smile awakens my dormant heart, and one stormy night leads to crossing lines we vowed we wouldn’t.
But when falling in the hay turns into falling in love, I start to wonder if our happy ending is a long time coming. Or will he return to the city leaving me with a broken heart?
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, S.L. Scott, writes character driven, heart-racing suspense, and swoony romances that will leave you glued to the page. With stories ranging from witty beach reads to heart wrenching and heart healing, her stories are highly regarded as emotional, relatable, and captivating.
Her books are more than escapes for the voracious readers of today. They are journeys of the heart that always come with a happily ever after reward at the end.
the setup… Christine (Pris) Greene has crushed on Tagger Grange since she was sixteen but to him she was his best friend’s little sister and off limits. He left Peachtree Pass, Texas to find his fortune and did so, now an investment manager in New York. Tagger is also a divorced single father to six-year old Beckett and has returned home to his hometown for the first time in years. Their first encounter in years was meet-cute worthy and Christine realizes her old feelings never died and have just intensified. Tagger is suddenly aware that the little sister of his best friend who he used to tease is all grown up and the feelings he’s experiencing are definitely not brotherly.
the heart of the story… Even though a lot has changed in ten years, Christine’s feelings for Tagger haven’t. It was stronger than a crush and the man he became was someone she admired even more. Tagger achieved the success he’d sought but felt something was missing for him and his son Beck. Returning home to his roots settled him and he was dazzled by Christine who is running the family ranch. I loved how there was never any pretense about their mutual attraction, the only potential conflicts being her brother and Tagger having no plans to stay in Texas. But their romance was just lovely…and steamy.
the narration… Samantha Summers beautifully captured the sass and angst of Christine. I loved her storytelling, too. Ryan Hudson sounded dreamy as Tagger and fit the character like the proverbial glove. I highly enjoyed their performances.
the bottom line… I was hoping for a good single father, slightly taboo friends to lovers romance and got that and more. Christine and Tagger were both interesting characters and I felt their genuine love for each other. The narrators elevated all of that, making this a special love story, made even stronger by the family and friends in their orbit.
(Thanks to the author and Hambright PR for my complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.)
Heartwarming. That's what this book feels like. This book felt like a big, warm hug.
🐎 Small Town 🐎 SHE'S the cowgirl 🐎 HE'S the city boy 🐎 Brother's Best Friend 🐎 Forbidden Romance 🐎 "It's always been you" 🐎 Single Dad 🐎 NO 3rd Act Breakup
When we meet Christine "Pris" Greene, we find out that she has always been in love with her older brother's best friend, Tagger Grange.
Tagger moves away from their small town after high school, became a hot shot businessman in NYC, got married, had a kid, and got divorced. On a trip to show his hometown to his young son, he runs into Pris at a dessert shop.
I loved that Pris didn't take any BS and constantly said what she felt thru the whole book, and that her communication with Tagger was open and honest throughout. Their romance felt real and pure and the relationship Pris built with his son, Beck, was so sweet.
Thank you to Hambright PR for the ARC copy of this book.
This is definitely my favorite style and set up for a book! Some of the best tropes and combinations that I love! This romance has everything I was looking for. I loved the chemistry between the couple and the dynamics of their relationship. They have been friends and in each others lives for ever but distance drifts them apart. But Tagger coming back into town sparks start flying! This was such an easy read and I loved that!
Tropes: 🩷Brothers Best Friend 🌼Single Dad 🩷Small Town Romance 🌼Cowgirl
✨️Thank you so much to SL Scott and Hambright PR for allowing me to read and review this ARC. There is something about the forbidden aspect of brother's best friend that gets me every time. Throw in that he's a single dad to the cutest little boy, and what more can you ask for? Did I mention that he wears tight jeans and a cowboy hat? 😏😏 I ate this book up. The slow-burn was delicious. This was a sweet read that had me laughing from the banter but also tearing up at times. I definitely recommend you give this a read! ❤️
My favorite part of this story was that SHE is the cowgirl & HE is the big city guy. Such a fun take on the cowboy trope. I know I’d love this story from the first chapter, where the characters have a (re)meet-cute at Christine’s best friend’s bakery (another favorite small town trope of mine).
Tagger & Pris made such a great pair, and little Beck added another layer of cuteness. I loved the exploration of complicated family dynamics and seeing how the characters navigated them.
My first book by this author and it was so cute!! Single dad + brother’s best friend + forbidden vibes?? Say less, I’m in.
Tagger’s son completely stole the show (adorable doesn’t even cover it), and I loved his bond with both his dad and Pris. This was low-stakes, low-angst, and just a dreamy, sweet listen.
Loved the author’s storytelling style and can’t wait to dive into more. The narrators were 🤌🏻💋so engaging and full of emotion!
This was my first book by SL Scott and while it was enjoyable and an easy reader I did not feel like it had anything special about it.
I felt a little lost at first when being introduced to the main characters and I felt like it was more insta lust for the MMC than the FMC because she has been holding a crush for like 10 years. I just felt like I needed more to the story, it just felt too easy.
This was such a cute and spicy small town brothers best friend romance! I couldn’t help but fall in love with the characters and Peachtree Pass.
Christine, Pris, came back home after her mother passed to help take care of the family farm with her father. She was hardworking, independent, hilarious, and had a heart of gold. She had a crush on her brother’s best friends for years, but never thought it would ever be more.
Tagger moved to New York a long time ago, he loved his life in the city. He now has a little boy who he shares custody with. A trip back home though had him rethinking everything. He thought he had it all in the city, but something about being back home in the country felt right too. And his son loved it just as much.
Tagger and Pris just made sense. You could feel the sexual tension between the two. They gave each other such a hard time trying to mask it, but the chemistry was there and it was hot. But they didn’t know how it would work. He live in NY and she was in Texas. Oh and the brother/best friend situation.
This book had me cracking up, blushing with the spicy scenes, almost in tears, and giddy as can be. You can’t help but root for these two.
🍑 Single Dad 🍑 Brother's Best Friend 🍑 Small Town/Big Ranch 🍑 Grumpy Sunshine 🍑 Cowboy Romance
I’ve struggled with how to write this review. It was a good book. Beautifully written, with a smooth story flow and engaging characters. My hesitation in rating it higher is 100% a me problem, so I’m rating it based on the writing, characters, and overall quality, and using this space to explain my personal disconnect.
For me, everything just felt a little too... easy.
There’s no real conflict or major hurdle for the couple to overcome. Not that I need a third-act breakup, but there’s just not much tension, period. They reconnect after decades, start spending time together, things go well. He goes back to NYC, realizes he can’t stop thinking about her, returns to Texas (without his kid this time), and they decide to give it a shot. Eventually, he quits his job (he’s a millionaire, so it’s not a huge risk) and moves to Texas to be with her.
Even when it seemed like baby mama drama might bring some conflict, it fizzled out before it even got started. It hinted at tension, but resolved itself too quickly to have any real impact.
That said...don’t get me wrong. I did enjoy the story. The sexy scenes were, well, sexy. The romance was swoony (Tagger is definitely book boyfriend material). The banter between Pris and Tagger was fun and the push-pull dynamic worked really well. Everything about this book was great... it just lacked that extra something to fully click for me, personally.
Thank you to SL Scott and Hambright PR for the ARC.

A huge thank you to S.L. Scott & Hambright PR for an advance copy of A Long Time Coming in exchange for an honest review.
A Long Time Coming is a small-town, cowboy romance with all the feels. A fast-paced slow-burn that has some of my favorite tropes:
🍑Single Dad 🍑Slow-Burn 🍑Brother’s Best Friend 🍑Grumpy Sunshine 🍑 Dual POV 🍑 Feisty FMC
My first ever book, written by S.L. Scott, and what a wonderful introduction to a new author. The first book in a new series, and I can't wait until the next adventure Peachtree Pass has to offer.
Tagger Grange (Tag) comes back to Peachtree with his 6-year-old son (his mini-me), Beckett, where he runs into his best friend's sister, Christine (Pris) Greene, who's had a crush on Tag for years. Will Pris and Tag get their happy ever after? You’ll have to check out A Long Time Coming to find out. 🥰
Overall thoughts: The storyline, character development, and fast-paced Hallmark movie vibes 🤷♀️ were an absolute fun ride. Would recommend as a fun cowboy book boyfriend read.
I love a good small town romance and this hit all the feels!
Tagger is Christine aka Pristine or Pris older brothers best friend from childhood so he was always off limits.
As they grew up, he left the small town of Peachtree Pass. Everyone did. And Pris was left to run the family farm after her mom died and her brother moved away to the big city. Like Tagger did. But when Tagger is missing home and wants to show his young son just where he came from, he reunites with Pri. And those sparks are still there.
“Pris is the forbidden. And nothing will taste as sweet as this peach.”
This a 🍑 Forbidden romance 🍑Brothers Best Friend 🍑Single Dad 🍑Second Chance 🍑Small Town, Big Ranch
I love the low drama, swoony romance, and spice included! HEA guaranteed!
“Sometimes the brightest stars burn out the fastest. Not us. We’re just getting started.”
Review ↝ I enjoyed the wholesomeness and rich family dynamics depicted in this latest read. I indulged in both the audio and ebook versions and felt the narrators, Ryan Hudson and Samantha Summers, successfully brought the family’s experiences and MCs new budding romance to life.
When the (Re)-meet cute happened over (Pris)Christine’s need for a cheddar biscuit in the bakery, I just knew our MCs were destined for a second chance to be together. Add in the flirty banter with mentions of furtive glances, multiple unexpected spice scenes, and I was absolutely giddy. But, this was more than a surface level open door romance, Christine, Tagger, and little Beck were endearing characters and I couldn’t help but admire their journey to becoming a new and growing family.
🍑
I’d recommend this one to readers who enjoy open door romances set in a small TX town/big ranch that include, the forbidden romance, brother’s best friend, grumpy/sunshine, and single dad tropes.
Thank you to, @s.l.scott @hambright_pr @hambrightmarketing for the gifted copies for review.
Prepare for an emotional journey with Long Time Coming by S.L. Scott, a sweet and steamy romance that delivers!
This book was a delightful indulgence, with a satisfying slow-burn and the perfect balance of humor and heartfelt emotion. The characters feel incredibly real, drawing you into their world that’s packed full of witty banter, heartwarming connections, and real-life struggles.
The forbidden element of the brother’s best friend is always one of my favorite tropes. Throw in the fact that our MMC is a single dad wearing tight jeans and a cowboy hat, and you’ve got yourselves an irresistible combination!
🍑 Single Dad 🍑 Brother’s Best Friend 🍑 Small Town/Big Ranch 🍑 Grumpy x Sunshine 🍑 Cowboy Romance
If you’re searching for a romance that will make you laugh, cry, and stay up way past your bedtime, this is the one.
S.L. Scott never misses, and Long Time Coming is another addictive read that proves why she’s an auto-buy for me. From page one, I was hooked. Pris and Tagger’s story has all the heart and heat I love: a swoony single dad, a forbidden brother’s best friend romance, and just the right dose of small-town cowboy charm. It kept me turning pages late into the night. If you’re craving something emotional, romantic, and completely unputdownable, this one is for you!
A meet/cute over a wobbly stool and a cheddar biscuit? Yes please! Add in small-town charm, single dad, Rollingwood Ranch, and brother’s best friend, well, stick a fork in me ‘cause I’m done.
I loved everything about this one! The welcoming town of Peachtree Pass, TX, the colorful secondary characters, and the cowboy/girl angle, and it was the perfect setup for a heartfelt steamy romance read.
The main characters are authentic and endearing, and little Beckett won my heart immediately. This one is sweet, funny, charming, smexy, and full of heart. It's the best fun you’ll find in a romantic reading escape!
Christine “Pris” Greene accidentally falls into Tagger Grange at the local bakery, literally. That’s how she finds out he is back in Peachtree Pass and with a child by his side. Tagger is her brother’s best friend & was always off limits but that never stopped her crush she had. Now all grown up and a father, could her crush finally turn into something real? This is a sweet small town romance with childhood crushes and small town families. Told in first person and dual POV.
Well, that was a ridiculously good time in my ears!! 👏👏👏👏
Samantha Summers & Ryan Hudson really ripped out all the emotions out of me that this story carried. I waited about 5 weeks from the time I read this story to listen to it and it was the perfect amount of time to still feel all the things as if I was feeling them for the first time. I already thought the story was relatable and very realistic (sans the whole brother’s best friend ridiculousness lol) and the performances by Samantha & Ryan elevated the story and made me feel like I was there. Like I was part of the circle of characters. I “saw” the story clip by clip in my head as I listened and that made me so happy! :) *heart eyes*
📚STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 with a well deserved round-up to 5 STARS
From the very beginning, I had a huge smile on my face for this story. It was sunshine and apple pie all rolled up into one and I couldn’t get enough from the moment I started! It was a swoon-fest even when it wasn’t trying to be! LOL It’s a great story about self-discovery and growth, friendship and love, finding your happiness, family, and so much more. The romance journey was romantic and charming and very low on the angst which made the story that much more ”every day” but special, nonetheless. Tagger & Pris were very real and relatable to me, and it made me appreciate their story a lot more. It was a joy to be inside this world until …
I like Scott’s style of storytelling even though I haven’t done a very good job of keeping up with her stories like I should LOL but I’m going to try and remedy that, especially with this series. So far, it has a lot of good vibe energy to it and I can’t wait to see where she takes it from here.
The story has been released in all formats so go get your reading and/or listening on asap!
Release Date: May 1st 2025 Rating: 3.5 ⭐️ Spice: Open Door, 🌶️ 🌶️ Media: Audiobook
🐎This was such a sweet story but mind you, there is spice 🤭 about a man finding his roots and the woman that helps him find his way.
Tagger, the MMC, finds himself back home in Peachtree Pass trying to make sure his son experiences ranch life. Beck,Tagger’s son, doesn’t always get to live a typical childhood growing up in NYC and with a mom that has very strict expectations. Pris, the FMC, is a spunky cowgirl that has taken on the responsibility of running her family’s ranch. She has always harbored a secret crush on Tagger. After their run in at the local bakery, Tagger can’t get his mind off his best friend’s sister, Pris and he needs to because he made a promise to his best friend.
The reconnecting of the main characters and discovering who they are as people now were some of the most enjoyable parts of the book. Beck and his eagerness to learn about horses and ranch life was just so precious. Pris and knowing her place and what she stood for was refreshing to see and how she took charge. I always love a strong FMC.
Overall, this story was a solid, cozy read.
Aspects I think may need to be improved are the voice acting. The inflections or minimal tone change of the MMC voice actor threw me off and almost caused me to DNF the book but I felt the author’s story was good so I continued listening. I’m not sure if this was meant to capture Tagger’s grumpiness but it felt monotone. The voice actor for Pris was spunky and I felt better reflected the character.
One of the sweetest lines from the book is when Beck tells his dad that Pris is Tagger’s “secret ingredient” in reference to a previous scene where Beck’s grandmother tells Beck why her baking is so delicious and it’s because her secret ingredient is love🥹
Read if you like: 🍑Single Dad 🍑Small Town 🍑Cowboy/Cowgirl 🍑Best Friend’s little sister
Thank you to @hambright_pr and SL Scott for the audiobook.
This story masterfully blends some of my favorite tropes: brother’s best friend, age gap, single dad, forbidden love, and a long distance secret relationship.
The chemistry between the main characters was very palpable, and their relationship development felt both natural and deeply heartfelt. One standout moment was the storm scene; it was emotionally charged and beautifully written, perfectly capturing the intensity of their bond. I especially admired how the male lead didn’t hesitate to pursue her when she ran during the storm to get her horse. That scene was my favorite!! His determination and care were unforgettable.
Tagger, as a father, was absolutely wonderful!! I loved that he made his son a huge life focus. His character was written with such warmth and sincerity that he felt like the heart of the story. While his ex initially seemed like a clear antagonist, her eventual redemption arc added a surprising and meaningful layer to the narrative.
The romantic tension and intimate moments were exceptionally well done, both tasteful and undeniably passionate. The setting, especially the small town Texas backdrop, provided a cozy and authentic atmosphere. I also appreciated how the family dynamics were intricately woven into the plot, adding both complexity and relatability.
The emotional stakes and obstacles in their relationship kept me fully engaged throughout. I listened to the audiobook in a single day because I simply couldn’t stop!!! This novel delivered everything I look for in a romance; heart, heat, and a story that stays with you.
I’m eagerly looking forward to more from this author!!
Christine "Pris" grew up having a crush on her brother’s best friend, Tagger. But when Tagger and her brother graduate they move to New York City and never look back. Until years later and Pris bumps into Tagger when he comes back to their hometown to visit his parents, and he has a son. Christine and Tagger have an instant connection, and they try to stay away from each other but their chemistry is too strong. The only reason this wasn’t five stars is that it was a bit unbelievable at times. He lives in NYC but they decide to try long distance. Not saying it can’t work but everything just worked out a little too well. The drama with the ex was kinda annoying too , but it wasn’t. Big part of the book so I was happy for that! There wasn’t really much conflict in the book, but that made it a really good feel good book!
🎧 Audiobook review: Loved this as an audiobook! I think the audiobook made the book honestly. Samantha Summers and Ryan Hudson were perfect as Christine and Tagger. It was easy to follow along and I didn’t want to stop listening.
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 A cute little gem about falling in love with your childhood crush, who also happens to be your big brother best friend. We do love a trope 😜 Thank you to Hambright for the ALC of this book.
Overall I liked the story and where the author took us during the couples journey. The struggle seemed realistic to me of being in two very different states (though them having money was obviously VERY helpful). I loved Beck and the energy he brought to the book. I however do not like the over-usage of “babe”. It ended up giving me ick every time they said it. I’m fine with a cute endearing nickname but babe? No thanks.
As for the audio aspect of this one…. It left something to be desired. I wasn’t a fan of either narrator, I’m sorry to say. Samantha Summers was distracting with her cadence, I at times didn’t know if what she said was said out loud or thought. The MMC played by Ryan Hudson’s also distracted from the story with the downward inflection at the end of every sentence, it ended up sounding like I was listening to Obama speak. I genuinely think I would have enjoyed this story a lot more if I would have eyeball read it. As always….views are my own 🙃
This was a swoony story of giving in to the pull between people who were trained to not see each other a certain way. I love a brothers best friend romance with a little taboo of “we really shouldn’t” and this had so many of those elements.
At times the pacing and timeline was a little challenging for me, and side characters didn’t stay consistent. Overall the story was really sweet, the spice at times satisfying and tender.
There were definitely “Cowboy” themes here which I obviously appreciated.
👋 Therapist Take: grief was a recurring theme here and handled quite well with exploration of disenfranchised loss and the bond missing when a girl loses her mom. There were themes related to choosing ourselves, coparenting effectively and managing the strain of long term relationships with healthy communication.
Thank you to the author and Hambright PR for the eARC.
I need to start by saying that I love anything this author writes, and this book did not disappoint.
Tagger and Christine's story will captivate you from the start. This book has banter, tension, swooning moments, and steamy ones too.
Tagger is a single dad who came to his hometown to show his kid the good life, what he didn’t expect was to see his friend's little sister all grown up, the attraction between these two was explosive.
Christine is a strong and independent woman, you will fall in love with her instantly, she loves the ranch and her family deeply. Her relationship with Tagger's son was heartwarming and beautiful.
I loved this book, this is a feel-good book that will warm your heart. The story, the characters, and the spice were so well crafted and made this book a 5-star read.
Christine / Pris has had a crush on her brother’s best friend Tagger, since she was a teenager. Tagger is back home for a visit after a long time and is now a single dad to his adorable little 6-year-old son. The sparks fly between Tagger and Pris, but he promised her brother he would stay away from her, and she is determined to avoid him at all costs while he is home. This is a well written story which is an easy to read, slow burn story, with family, friendships, emotions, grumpy / sunshine, opposites attract, humor, witty banter, tension, complex characters, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and heartfelt, small town cowboy romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
If you’re in the mood for a small-town romance with heart, charm, and zero drama-for-the-sake-of-drama, Long Time Coming is your next read! When Tagger returns home and literally catches his best friend’s little sister, Priss, at the bakery, sparks fly in the most adorable way.
What follows is a sweet slow burn filled with heartwarming moments—especially scenes with Tagger’s 6-year-old son on the family farm. There’s a little “will they/won’t they,” but no miscommunication, no third-act breakup—just two people reconnecting, growing, and falling for each other in a genuinely mature and refreshing way.
This was my first S.L. Scott book, and definitely not my last. If you love feel-good romance with great chemistry and grounded characters, give this one a go!
I really loved this book! I LOVE a good meet-cute (ok technically this isn’t their first meeting, but it’s been awhile!) and when Pris is reaching for that delicious cheddar biscuit and almost face plants right into her childhood crush Tagger, I was all in for these characters!
The narrators did such an amazing job bringing Pris and Tagger (and sweet Beck) to life. Their story is full of banter and romance and swoon worthy moments. The side characters are just as good as the MCs - if you love small town and second chance romances, this is a must read!
✨What to Expect: 🌾 Small Town/Big Ranch 🤠 Cowboy Romance 💖 Single Dad ❤️🔥 He Falls First 🍑 Brother's Best Friend 🌦️ Grumpy/Sunshine 🔥 Slow Burn 💋 She Loves Cheddar Biscuits 😉 He’s Great With His Hands 🚫 No 3rd Act Breakup
Oh my gosh! This was such a feel-good love story! It follows Christine and Tagger. They grew up together, but Tagger leaves the countryside for life in the big city. He makes a beautiful life for himself and his son, but when he finds himself back in Peachtree Pass to spend his son's spring break riding horses, he realizes that his happily ever/beautiful life was not meant to be in New York at all. He finds himself falling quickly for his best friend’s sister! His only issue? His son's mom is in New York. Thankfully, her own life takes her to France, and she knows that their son is happiest with his dad and allows him to have him full-time! This story really was just such a wholesome, beautiful love story! 5/5 stars and 2/5 chili spices!
Cliff notes: 🧡 small town 🧡 single dad 🧡 brothers best friend 🧡 small age gap (4 years) 🧡 long distance 🧡 complicated family dynamics
Christine grew up admiring her brothers best friend, Tagger Grange, from a far. He moves away after college and strolls back into town years later, still looking as good as ever, and a son in tow.
I really liked how she was the rancher, and he was the guy travelling in from the city. She worked hard and seemed pretty funny and knew exactly what she wanted. I respect that there was no miscommunication and how they handled their long-distance relationship as adults.
