Wilder Horizons #1

Wrecked By You

Rate this book
There were two problems with kissing Max Harrington. First—he kissed like sin. Second—he knew it. Now we’re stuck in Scotland together, and pretending it never happened is definitely not on the itinerary.
Rayann Wilder has charm, connections, and one job: make sure a million-dollar pre-wedding celebration in the Scottish Highlands goes off without a hitch. But when her boss assigns the company's broody security chief to join her? Everything unravels fast.

Max Harrington is ex-military, exasperating, and entirely too attractive for Rayann’s sanity. He follows rules. She makes her own. He’s planning for worst-case scenarios. She’s trying not to jump him in a castle hallway. And the worst part? The more they argue, the harder it is to remember why this was supposed to be a strictly professional trip.

Tensions are high. The stakes are higher. And between ancient feuds, competitive games, and one very inconvenient suite-sharing situation… the line between enemies and lovers is about to disappear completely.

Wrecked by You is a sexy, enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy with snappy banter, forced proximity, and enough slow-burn tension to melt your passport. Perfect for readers who crave serious heat, sharp wit, and emotionally intelligent characters who know exactly how high the stakes are—especially when it comes to falling in love.

💋 Adult language, adult situations, and adults doing very adult things. On several occasions.
swearing, swooning, and one hilariously inappropriate closet scene. Recommended 18+.

Order and Chaos

Rayan Wilder was in charge of the in-person charm campaign for the Wilder Horizons event planning company. One of multiple sisters who made the company work.

Max Harrington is in charge of security and the making of plans. No one does “planning” quite as annoyingly perfect as Max.

Rayann is spontaneous chaos that somehow always manages to pull success out each and every job. Max is the OCD organizer who try’s to order Rayann’s chaos.

Somehow in the middle of a very risky marriage between clans that have been feuding for hundreds of years, Max decides to scorch Rayann with a hot kiss. Then he does it again in a broom closet with clients roaming the building. Max losing his cool just might be the sexiest thing Rayann has ever experienced.

The writing is good, but starts out with a snarky comedy monologue that makes you feel like you missed the reasons for the punchline. Mostly I loved the high speed snark of the inner dialog going on in Rayann’s brain, and I definitely loved the hot and brooding security guy. So much perfect spice. Minus one star for being short on actual plot, but four big stars for the hot rendezvous in Ireland.

🌶️ 2.5
🥵 Spicy Chapters: 14, 17, 24, 26, 27
📚 Tropes/Themes: workplace romance, forced proximity, opposites attract, highland Romance, grumpy sunshine, broody MMC, tortured hero
👀 Single POV 1st person
💔 Triggers: very minimal mentions of war violence and references to PTSD
🛍️ Available: 9/10

💬 So overall, the book was enjoyable. I really enjoyed the snarky one-liners, the quips and the banter. The chemistry between Max and Rayann was pretty hot 🔥 I also am physically incapable of turning down books that have Scottish Highlands and castles in the settings so I loved that for me.

I really liked the writing style, along with Rayann's chaotic stream of consciousness inner monologue too.

The end included book club discussion questions which I love because it helps me think more fully about the stor. It also included at the end a list of the spicy chapters, howeverrrr (and this could be because I read this as an ARC) the chapters that I wrote down as spicy chapters did not match up 😅

However my biggest frustration with this book is that I felt pretty lost for at least the first half. It honestly felt like a 3rd or 4th book in an series. Where you have met and know all the characters already. Max had a decent backstory but there was minimal buildup/history for Rayann and I wasn't sure what her actual job was or the relationship with her sister's was until near the very end. The book felt like it move too quickly because of that.

I also noticed a couple times where the logistics didn't line up, which pulled me out of the story, but once last third of the book was more enjoyable and engaging/understandable and I felt like I was starting to get who Rayanne was.

Wrecked By You by Kate Sweden is an entertaining opposites-attract romance that had me smiling more than once, mostly thanks to the great banter between Rayann and Max. Their dynamic is a lot of fun; she's chaos and he's the calm, collected type that somehow handled it all with quite charm. Together they just work!
I really enjoyed how their personalities clashed in all the right ways, and the dialogue between then felt fresh and snappy! Max's steady presence and Rayann's wild energy made for some genuinely funny and sweet moments.

thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC! If you’re into stories with great back and forth and an opposites-attract vibe, this one’s worth checking out.

Rayann was smart, funny, and totally chaotic in the best way, while Max was calm, organized, and annoyingly attractive. Their chemistry was amazing, full of teasing, and tension. The Scottish Highlands setting was beautiful and made the story even more immersive. The story moved fast. I loved seeing how they pushed each other, sometimes out of their comfort zones, sometimes just to annoy each other, and always with sparks flying. Overall, I laughed, I cried, and I couldn’t put it down. Thank you so much to the author and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving a honest review

Fun, Flirty & Addictive!

This was such a fun and lighthearted read! It’s entertaining, flirty and addictive! I really like the heroine, Rayann, and the hero, Max, was swoon-worthy. It’s an escape romance, which takes place amongst the backdrop of Scotland. Rayann is visiting Scotland to oversee a wedding, while Max is in charge of security. Together, Rayann and Max are forced to overcome their differences and work together to make sure this wedding goes off without a hitch and in the process find themselves falling hard for each other.

Overall, this is a cute romcom and well worth adding to your next romantic read.

Cute book!!

Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and grumpy x sunshine.

I feel like the book needed more detail, and wished there was a better lead up to the “love”, but overall great story, and loved the characters! Fun uplifting read, and I really enjoyed that it was set in a different country and all the supporting characters!

I’m very happy that this was my first ever ARC book as I will definitely say it’s 10/10 the best opposites attract, enemies to lovers I’ve read this year. Rayann’s lovable chaos was perfectly met with Max’s calm and collected organization.

Kate Sweden did a fantastic job with this duo, from the slow burn that made you want to melt, to the first kiss that made you want to explode, this couple definitely kept me turning pages.

While I don’t want to give too much details, I loved the character development of both Rayann and Max. Max’s POV chapter was very well done and made me want to see more from his POV but the chapter was so well done that I didn’t feel like I was missing out when it was a one off. Rayann being the primary narrator was fantastic, reading how sassy she was as she realized her feelings for Max while still trying to fight it made it all the better.

If you don’t like romances with the miscommunication trope this is a great one as well, even when Rayann and Max have their disagreements they speak their minds (Rayann very openly lol) only one slight misunderstanding but not exactly miscommunication.

This book was great and I’m excited to read about Rayann’s twin in the next book in the series!

I loved Rayann and Max. Rayann was snarky and chaotic and just makes the perfect FMC. Max is her opposite- calm, collected, so on top of everything. Together- they are fire. Their chemistry is off the charts. Rayann's snarky personality made the banter of the enemies to lovers so freaking good.

Wow! that's my thought process while reading this book. This was my first ARC and I devoured it! the chemistry between Max and Rayann were everything because the banter was there, the tension between them that kept building and building in-between scenes had me sweating! Rayann being her chaotic self and Max stayed through everything for her because she was worth it. Made my heart so happy. I laughed and was kicking my feet during this book! highly recommend it and I can't wait for the 2nd book in the series! I fell in love with everything with this couple but I'm excited for Brynn's story!

Started reading this book and just couldn’t stop! I love romance and smutty novels like this! The story line was just great and god do I love a MMC that’s grumpy and prides himself on never losing control, plus a FMC like Rayann who’s a total boss a** B*tch. She knows she’s a lot to handle but also amazing at her job and how she can handle situations. I love the competitiveness of the two characters and the steamy scenes between them ! They were straight 🔥🔥🔥 I highly recommend this read to find out how it ends! This book is so worth the read and im thrilled I got to read it!

The banter and tension between Max and Rayann was perfection 👏🏼. Rayann was competitive, chaotic and just a hot mess all around. Max was a rule follower. You’ll learn that Max knows more about Rayann than she knows about herself.
Just wait till you get to that spicy closet scene though 😉

Wrecked By You kicks off the Wilder Horizons series with a story that’s equal parts sharp banter, romantic tension, and emotional vulnerability. The book follows Rayann Wilder, one of six sisters tasked with keeping their father’s luxury travel company alive, and Max Harrington, a former Navy SEAL turned security chief whose life philosophy is control, order, and more control. What begins as a forced partnership on an overseas assignment quickly unravels into a storm of missteps, misunderstandings, and undeniable attraction. It’s a romantic comedy wrapped in chaos, with moments of heartfelt grief and healing woven between laugh-out-loud disasters.

The writing has a kind of quicksilver snap, shifting from comedy to tenderness in a single beat. Sometimes I caught myself grinning at Rayann’s snark, other times wincing at how nakedly she exposed her grief for her father. Max, meanwhile, made me want to throw something and hug him in equal measure. He’s infuriatingly rigid, yet the glimpses of softness under all that armor kept me hooked. I loved how their chemistry wasn’t neat or polished, but messy, clashing, and very real. The author’s humor often landed perfectly, though I’ll admit a few jokes leaned a little too staged, almost sitcom-like. Still, the rhythm of their back-and-forth was addictive.

What surprised me most was how much heart sat under the comedy. This isn’t just a story about attraction, it’s about the weight of family expectation, the ways grief lingers in quiet corners, and how vulnerability can feel more dangerous than desire. I found myself unexpectedly moved by Rayann’s private moments with her father’s journal, and by the way Max’s stoic facade started to crack. The writing never overindulged in sentimentality, and that restraint made the emotional punches land harder.

Wrecked By You is a romance that thrives on contrast. It’s chaotic and funny, yet tender and raw. I’d recommend it to readers who like their romantic comedies with a strong bite of real emotion. If you love sparring banter, reluctant partners who can’t seem to quit each other, and a backdrop of family drama that adds depth without drowning the romance, this one will hit the sweet spot. For me, it was a ride worth taking, mess and all.

*Thank you to Kate Sweden for providing an ARC for this book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kate Sweden’s Wrecked By You kicks off the Wilder Horizons series with a familiar yet fun romantic comedy that checks all the boxes for romcom lovers—enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and plenty of sizzling moments. The story follows Rayann Wilder, a no-nonsense wedding planner, and Max Harrington, a gruff ex-soldier turned security expert, who are forced to work together at a posh Scottish castle. Their constant bickering quickly turns into undeniable chemistry, but not without the usual predictable tropes and misunderstandings along the way.

What Works:

The setting is a huge draw. The Scottish castle is the perfect backdrop for this kind of story, creating a dreamy, romantic atmosphere. Sweden does a great job of making the location feel alive and a bit magical.
Max and Rayann have undeniable chemistry. Their slow-burn romance, filled with tension and a dash of humor, makes for an enjoyable read. It’s easy to root for them, even if their emotional development feels a little rushed at times.
The banter between the two leads is on point—funny, snappy, and engaging. Rayann’s sassy attitude balances Max’s gruff exterior well, and the push-pull dynamic works, for the most part.

What Doesn’t Work:

While the enemies-to-lovers trope is fun, the conflict between Rayann and Max can feel contrived. The misunderstandings and “will-they-won’t-they” tension stretch a bit too far at times, and some of the plot developments seem more like convenient plot devices than natural character growth.
Max’s character feels a bit one-dimensional. His brooding persona could have been explored more deeply—by the end, he’s still a bit of a mystery, and not in the fun, romantic way. It leaves his transformation feeling incomplete.
The pacing could have been better. While the beginning starts off strong with witty dialogue and chemistry, the middle drags a bit, and the resolution feels too quick. The emotional depth that could have made this book a standout is somewhat lacking.

Final Thoughts:

Wrecked By You is a fun, lighthearted romcom with a beautiful setting and decent chemistry between the leads. However, it doesn’t break any new ground in the genre, and the emotional beats might leave some readers wanting more. If you’re looking for a quick, entertaining read with a classic enemies-to-lovers plot, this will hit the spot—but don’t expect it to linger long after you turn the last page.
Perfect for fans of fluffy, feel-good romcoms, but if you're after something with a little more depth or originality, this might not be it.

A chaotic heroine, a broody spreadsheet man, and a forced trip to Scotland? ✈️🏴 This romcom was equal parts funny, spicy, and messy in the best way!

📖 Wrecked by You by Kate Sweden
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🌶🌶🌶/5

This was such a cute romcom! I really enjoyed it, and honestly the Scotland setting made it even better.

The story follows Rayann, a whirlwind of chaos and impulsivity, who ends up on a work trip to Scotland with her company’s Chief of Security, Max - the picture of control, calm, and order (basically a human spreadsheet 🤭). The two couldn’t be more different, but the chemistry between them was undeniable. Between navigating their attraction, emotional struggles, and their jobs, things get deliciously complicated.

The pacing was fast and easy to read. I finished it in one sitting because it kept pulling me in. The spice was spicing! 🔥 Max trying (and failing) to restrain himself around Rayann had me internally screaming, “just lose the control already!!” The banter was another highlight; their back-and-forth kept things light and fun while still brimming with tension.

Max completely stole my heart. I’m always here for a man who knows what he wants, states it clearly, and goes after it with intensity. Rayann was fun and fierce, but I did get a little frustrated with how much she spiraled even after realizing her feelings. Still, I understood that her hesitation came from the weight of such a big decision.

Some tiny nitpicks: I didn’t fully understand why they were “enemies” at first (beyond banter), and I laughed when their date logistics didn’t quite add up (two cars going, one car coming back 🤔). But those details aside, the emotional payoff was worth it - both of them really did end up wrecked by each other.

Thank you NetGalley, Wild Magnolias Press, and Kate Sweden for this ARC!

I am in the minority so far with reviews for this book, but I didn't love it. While we get some back story on Max, I feel like I really knew nothing about Rayann. There is very little about her sisters/family in the book as well...so she is just a woman with a chaotic stream of inner monologue with a cool job to me. And the inner monologue? It is too much. I think it was supposed to be funny...but it missed the mark more often than not for me. I had a hard time getting into the book because it starts off with her sister telling her that she is going to do this wedding and their security guy is going with her. Then we are thrown into the chaos leading up to the wedding. I never really felt settled in the story. Now the spicy parts, wow they are spicy! I do like spicy in a book, and here I felt like the author did a good job and it was drawn out and not rushed. Though, I wouldn't call the book a slow burn. Now the thing that bothered me most about the book? The language. Ya'll, I have a sailors mouth more than not. I really should be better. But one thing I don't say? GD. And my goodness was that term used in this book A LOT. A well timed one here and there doesn't bother me or make me rate a book any lower. But this book is full of them and other holy, Jesus, just lots of religious terms used in a distasteful way. And why? There is really no point. And it became distracting in the book because they are used SO MUCH. In fact, I ended up quitting at about 61%. Deciding that between the GD this and GD that and the lack of development for our main lady and not feeling connected....I had other books to read and decided to abandon ship. And this is why only a 2 star rating from me. The author didn't have my attention enough to even finish and see where it all went.

“A fantastically sassy, highly amusing romance packed full of sexual chemistry. A Wishing Shelf ‘highly recommended’ read!” The Wishing Shelf

REVIEW
I love it when a novel gets off to a good start, which is what happens here with this delightfully funny – I tucked a long strand of dark hair behind my ear, trying to look less like someone who just googled “how to fake innocence convincingly.” And, from there on in, it gets better and better. You see, this book has three things going for it. Firstly, the author’s got excellent comic timing. Secondly, I loved (LOVED!) the ‘will they, won’t they, enemy to lover’ chemistry between Rayann and Max. And thirdly, Max is so annoyingly sexy; so much so, I’d like to jump him myself!
So, what’s the plot? Well, it’s not overly complex, but it works well. Rayann Wilder is sent to the Scottish Highlands to organise a wedding. Along for the ride is Max Harrington, ex-military, annoying, and devilishly attractive – or as Rayann sees him – full-time mood killer, part-time menace. What follows is a little bit what you’d expect. But it’s a wonderfully fun, sexy ride!
So, who’s this novel for? Well, if you happen to be a fan of smartly plotted, sexy romance – or as it says at the end of the blurb: adults doing very adult things – then this book is for you. Fans of Elle Kennedy or Lilac Mills’ Tanglewood Village books will find a lot to enjoy here too. I think most readers will love the spirited, highly amusing, a little bit crazy Rayann, and they’ll be attracted to ex-Navy seal, Max. And, of course, everybody will be rooting for a happy ending. All in all, a wonderfully fab, funny read!

First things first I have to thank to Booksprout and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this arc! 🤍

Here we have an enemies-to-lovers story full of provocations, comedy, and plenty of tension. Wrecked by You is the first book in the Wilder Horizons series, and I loved it!!
It's a slow-burn with a very light, first-person writing style, easy to understand, and not at all juvenile. There's also the smut, perfectly timed, and very well-written! 🥰

I fell in love with the main characters. He's the calm, and she's the chaos. He organizes everything to the millimeter, and she acts on impulse. And they both need each other in their lives to have the balance they don't know they need. Aaand a shout out to Murdo, he is hilarious!! 🤍

I really liked the balance of this book. It has everything in the right doses and at the right times. I thought the characters developed quite well, and the chemistry between them was perfect. The approach to some important topics like family pressure and PTSD was very well done. 🤍

I just wish there had been more chapters with his POV because I often didn't understand why he changed his attitude. I wanted to see what was going on in his head, and sometimes that failed.

But in the end, it was a good read. It cleared my head and made me laugh a lot! I will definitely recommend this one if you love a very spicy story between a rule follower guy and a “live in the moment” girl. ❤️

What happens when you pair a beautiful, chaotic mess of a vacation planner with the handsome, type-a personality of the security lead? You get Wrecked By You, one of my favorite romance reads of the year.

The two leads have a beautiful dynamic that's healthy in a reading landscape which seems to be championing more toxic relationships lately. Though it's a romantic comedy, there are some much heavier emotions rooting the humor too. The author's writing style tackles both equally well; Rayann's internal freaking out nuanced and punchy rather than dragging.

Sometimes novels feel make things like the setting or the character's careers feel just like window dressing. They either don't really matter to the plot or worse, the character/locale operates in opposition to what they are described to be. Thankfully, neither of that happens here. Scotland, including a cozy cottage in the country, feels fully utilized here. Equally, enough can't be said about how well the character's roles in the same company lend to their personality clashes. Both are drastically different, but compliment each other in real ways.

This was very close to a higher rating, but it wasn't quite the practically perfect I reserve that for. While not what I'd call prevalent, there are enough typos or formatting issues to be distracting, especially in key scenes. I also felt like there wasn't quite enough of the enemies aspect to the enemies-to-lovers trope, and that it was more an opposites attract story.

Overall, Wrecked By You is a very fun and fast read for romance lovers. Witty banter, idyllic settings, and a healthy relationship dynamic were some of my favorite aspects. While this one didn't quite hit the enemies-to-lovers for me, the planned sequel looks to nail it. I loved the writing style enough in this one that I hope to get my hands on the next!

not bad could use some more details - minimal conflict, rom com, MMC knows what he wants

This was light hearted. Its cute. It’s good. I do feel like there were descriptions or details missing for scenes, like a scene would transition to another and clothes would be on and then off, or like what do the characters even look like??, etc. Another was the MFC saying that the MMC kissed her and then left to go to another woman — but he ALMOST kissed her. But the scenes afterward were all about him kissing her (when he didn’t) So obviously there are editing / plot mistakes. Stuff like that.

The first 50% of the book is the MFC using euphemisms for everything — and I mean everything, including the spice 🌶️. It was really distracting after a while and took away from understanding the scenes — or in most cases, just replaced actual scene setting and descriptions with her incessant descriptors. I suppose thats her character , but it was A LOT in the first half.

There’s also very little of them actually working this wedding - where was the MFC and her chaos and things happening that the MMC had to step in and control? I dunno. Like - she never gets her own suite back? They didn’t even bring that back up.

The last half of the book felt like the author upgraded her writing style and reaalllllly nailed it. Better scene descriptions, more engagement between the leads, less of the MFC over characterizing and euphemising every thought.

I felt like there could’ve been way more MMC POV to draw up tension and cut back on the MFC spiraling and excessiveness. Would’ve been way nicer to have that contrast.

Only negative is that…of course the man takes a job elsewhere and then expects the woman to follow him when she’s the one already working for a very successful family business. But ya know - romance. lol.

Also neither said they that they loved each other. 🤔

Thanks to Kate Sweden for allowing me to be an ARC reader for the first time!🤍

Beautiful descriptions and witty analogies really set the scene for a fairytale setting (literally a castle in Scotland) meets Netflix rom-com vibe! The characters are witty and sarcastic, making for lots of flirtatious bickering and funny moments.
I think enemies to lovers is a bit strong as I never got the impression there was true hate or enemies situation, rather Rayann didn’t like being forced to have a babysitter and hated the situation/being underestimated, rather than hating Max himself - you don’t get that deep seeded long term feud vibe between them, more so just humorous banter. (Plus it’s under a week that they fall for each other!)
Because of that I think the change up between enemies to lovers happens quick instead of a slow burn!

Max is definitely one of my favorite types of MMC, with his no-nonsense and need to be in control (with a tragic backstory to boot). at times, Rayannas inner monologue / thoughts could be a bit much - I feel she was mad at Max often for just being a professional and doing his job/leaving their romance outside of work, but we’ve all been in our feels before so I get it. I also think everyone in the book underestimates Rayann - like she’s such a mess and so chaotic and literally we only saw her arrive late to the airport - everything else? She was in control and on top of it. So I don’t think anyone was very fair to her!

I find that both characters tend to think in questions, like “and that? That would just not do” for example (not a direct line) and that got to be kinda tedious.

overall this is a fast paced, lighthearted, semi-spice read and I’d pick up the next in the series! Thanks again to Kate Sweden! (Also the cover is a gorg!)

Ok. Wow. Just wow. I wanted a rom com with spice and this book was EVERYTHING! I have never read anything by this author before but I am a huge fan now! This book ranks up there with Wall Banger.

I was hooked from the get go. This girl, she is the kind of hot mess I want to be friends with! Rayann Wilder is a hurricane in motion. She is an event planner extraordinaire. She is the best at what she does even though some of her strategies are less than normal.

Max Harrington is security and logistical god among men at Wilder Horizons. All tall, dark, and brooding statue of hotness. Infuriatingly calm during the storms and fighting his attraction to the whirlwind that is Rayann Wilder.

One weekend in Scotland gets the two of them in close quarters and testing each other restraint and sanity. All it takes is a spark, jealous or a torrential down pour to bring them together.

But once the Scotland bubble burst and they get back to reality will it end in happily ever after or separation by countries?

This story was soooooo good! I loved the banter, ribbing and competitive nature of both of these characters. I love how Max knew what Ray needed before she could bring herself out of her thought spiral to figure out what she needed. And he did it quietly without pushing or demanding.

I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait to pick up book two with Rayann’s twin Brynn in Costa Rica.

If you love a good rom com but with all the spice our dirty little hearts desire, then check out this series. It was seriously so hot! And the tension…wow. Just ok wow.

Happy Release Day 9/10 to Wrecked by You
@katesweden_author
Wilder Horizons Series
Enemies to Lovers
Grumpy/Sunshine
Military MMC
Workplace/Forced Proximity/Shared Room

Max Harrington is not the guy everyone likes, he probably irons his jeans and corrects grammar in text messages. He is all structure and spreadsheets. Ex Navy Seals…Data analysis and threats…
Rayann Wilder is chaos, all wrapped in cuteness. She’s sunshine, optimistic, relaxed and doesn’t stick to schedules… but she’s dang good at her job!
The latest job is the wedding coordination and management of a high profile client in Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
One small hitch, she is saddled with Max because her sister thinks she needs a babysitter, truth is she probably does need the help, will she admit that… no!
Max and Rayann head to Scotland and then head into blurred lines, castles and storage room hook-ups!
I absolutely loved the banter and steaminess from these two ❤️❤️
Max was all restraint and Rayann was determined to break down his walls, and maybe be pushed up onto a couple 😮‍💨
Supporting cast with the Scottish bartender/therapist, loved him !!! Murdo was the goat 🐐

Fave lines-
“Six and a half minutes.” His voice was low. Rough. Dangerous…”

“Yeah. My favorite kind of oral report.”

“Come on,” he growled against me, voice low and dark and fuck*ng filthy. “Give me another.”

These two review the timeline and adjust and I was seated and watching! Like the good girl I am ❤️
Don’t worry no PowerPoints today! Just a steamy, spicy tempt that headed straight to my top shelf!
I give this one all the kilts and whiskey barrel racing rating!
Endless romantic cottage getaways for these two all on the Scottish countryside 💋

Wrecked by You is available today!!!!

I feel so fortunate to have been selected as BETA reader for this Wrecked By You (Wilder Horizons): A Spicy Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Contemporary Romantic Comedy wich is the first book of the Wilder Horizons series.

And oh god, what a surprise. I was obscenely surprised in a good way. Kate's writing is beautiful. Truly is. And the sense of humor? So so so good.

This book is going to shatter people. Because the beginning is light and with lots of humor and with the romantic Highlands in background. But then? Then you are hit with a bulldozer called
FEELINGS.
And it's not just the characters, YOU feeeeeeeel it too.
The love, spreading and taking over as a ivy plant does to a house.

And the sipcy scenes? Oh they spice😄Be prepared for never look at a closet the same way.

I hope many of you, readers, can let this book take over your heart and treasure it.

These were 5 of my favorite quotes (no spoliers):

"Why the hell are you still looking at me like you're still starving?"

"If this is foreplay, I’m not surviving the main event."

"And when I came - slow, deep, eyes wide open - I saw him.
All of him.
And he saw me."

"we devoured each other like dinner, drinks, and dessert, and we licked the plate clean."

"You lit the match, Harrington. Burn with me."

With all my heart,

You guys you are up for a ride… start as soon as you can…

A gorgeous heroine and a former navy seal 😋 falling in love in the beautiful landscape of Scotland!

Rayann a tough, fierce, intelligent and chaotic young woman who can conquer the world in her high heels is on an enemy sort of bases with her co-worker Max. He is organized, always calm and stoic and the quite opposite of her.

The story is narrated from Rayann‘s point of view. I loved the description of her feelings which where very detailed. Kate Sweden‘s writing style is definitely top shelf! I felt everything threw Ryann…(my heart almost bursted with emotions) … from the early antagonizing feelings - Max goes under her skin with his spreadsheets and back up plans for everything - over her blooming feelings for him, to each and every intimate thought when touched by him and being very - very - close to him.
Oh is it hot in here… or is it just me? Well there are enough 🔥 scenes that you may have to pause and go fan yourself!

It was interesting to read a single POV - I’m more familiar with dual and I’m not a very patient woman so I had to scream at my tablet multiple times because I wanted to know what Max was thinking.
I could empathize Rayann… that she is on the precipice of loosing it because Max is always so calm and put together… he almost never looses control or his composure… well…🤫 Rayann may have intel on how to do it…

Oh boy! All of it was so good… I loved every second of reading - I laughed and cried, don’t worry there where mostly happy tears - and I’m amazed by their story.

The epilogue and the bonus scene where something else… and I bet you you will also love all of it….

Kate Sweden's Wilder Horizons: Wrecked by You was an absolutely fun and enjoyable read. The first in the series, it became real clear early on that I was going to be reading all the books if I could.

Rayann wild one of the family… at least in comparison to most her sisters. She looks at the world differently, and makes messes become memorable experiences. As one of the key event planners for her family's company, she was hired by a couple getting married in Scotland. Only two problems: one, the couples' families held century old Scottish grudges against each other; and two, the super sexy Max, head of security for Rayann's company was coming with her to ensure the wedding went off without a hitch.

I really got into this book. I loved the elements of Scotland which Sweden wove into her story. From the Highland Games before the wedding to the cottage getaway, the flavor of Scotland dripped off the pages. It made it easy to imagine staying at this beautiful, historical site and hang out through the misty terrain sipping a Scotch.

Rayann is especially well developed as a character. While Max has a few moments of narrative take-over, ultimately we follow their journey through her lens. Some very sexy moments keep the story moving along, but the enemies-to-lovers vibe definitely works for these characters.

I am a new Kate Sweden fan. I'm going to hunt down the next books in the Wilder Horizons series; I can't wait to travel to the next location.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“He kissed me like he was done waiting.”

Grumpy meets sunshine ☀️
A quick, fun read for everyone!

Rayann (great name btw!) is a cute, chaotic whirlwind of a sunshine. She’s chaos and he’s control. What could go wrong, right?🙂‍↕️

I definitely enjoyed the plot. Them flying to Ireland for the wedding (loved the airport scene), them having to share a room (duh, we love forced proximity) and the tension building.
I kind of hoped for a bit more banter and a bit more background why they were enemies in the first place but i still enjoyed it!

“Wait. Did he just growl-claim me? Is that legal?”

What I absolutely loved was the chapter names and her inner thoughts. Some of the stuff she thought was hilarious, relatable and just so so her!

The spice was nice, Max hot as hell (like a broody hot guy with a secret past? Sign me up!!)
I did wish for more of his thoughts. I just love reading both perspectives, even more when it’s about a yearning man🙂‍↕️

My favorite quote was Max at the end of the book:

“You’re still the plan,” he said, voice low and wrecked. “You’ve been it since the second I stopped pretending you weren’t.”

This one just showed how much he opened up to her and just let her in. Be in love. Be with her in every way.

Thank you NetGalley, Victory Editing and Kate Sweden for providing me with my very first ARC! I really appreciated it and I’m so happy I enjoyed this book so much.

Thank you so much for the early copy to review! This book was a great entry point to romance where the MMC knows what he wants and shows it. I loved the dynamic between the two and their banter had me giggling and wiggling my toes. I feel I need a few days to calm down after living Rayann’s chaos - she’s like a hurricane blowing through the Scottish Highlands. Fortunately, she’s in very capable hands with the dark and stormy Max. Their romance scenes were well written and had me wishing for more. I can only assume we didn’t get to witness all of their escapades and more took place off page. I thoroughly enjoyed Max’s POV, and thought the book would have worked really well as a dual POV. Kate Sweden really manages to capture the two separate personalities and voices of our MCs.

A couple aspects of the book left a bit to be desired. The MCs interact with secondary characters quite often, but as the reader we are left without context or details (Rayann is a twin, with 4 or 5 other sisters?). I don’t think this is a case of show rather than tell, because the interactions seem to go from “Hi we just met” to “I know your life story and I’m your best friend” without warning. No spoilers, but a couple plot points were the same as well, with details missed out that jolted me out of the book (contraception and STD chat being the main one). I would hope again that this is implied but happens off page.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I liked the writing style. The author has a great voice. But I felt a bit lost at the beginning. It felt like I was reading the second or third book in the series and missed some basic things. There really isn’t much explanation of the company Rayann and her sisters run, and I couldn’t understand the reason for one of the company owners and their head of security, Max, having to personally attend a wedding. I also was confused as to why both Rayann and Max participated in the festivities. And Rayann honestly seemed pretty childish to me concerning her relationship with Max. She was constantly competing with him and I couldn’t figure out where the animosity was coming from. An employer/employee relationship shouldn’t work that way, at the very least. What really saved the book for me was Max. He was a complicated guy, but when he decided to go after something, boy did he commit to it. He was pretty darn swoony. I’m willing to give the next book in the series a shot, but I don’t think it will be a “must read.” Recommended with reservations.

Cute Scottish Rom-Com

Rayann Wilder booked a wedding between rivaling Scottish clans, the McIvey clan, and the McAlister clan. Rayann's older sister, Summer Wilder, who is the Chief Operating Officer COO, pointed out the mistake. Fiona McIvey is marrying Collum McAlister at the Isle of Skye. Rayann has a record of setting up weddings that go wrong. Rayann is working with Max Harrington, someone who is putting together the wedding itinerary. They end up beside each other on the airplane. Rayann gets to her hotel room on the East Wing, and it has a ruptured pipe while Harrington on the North wing has a hotel room that is fine. Max lets Rayann stay in his room, which he instantly regrets.

Callum McAlister likes the venue. The families go well together, surprisingly. What doesn't go well together is Rayann Wilder and Max Harrington. They are becoming attracted to each other and it is moving fast physically. Max gets spooked and bails out. Will Rayann and Max ever be a couple?
