3.6 ⭐️ a dark, sapphic vampire tale.

I did enjoy the plot for the most part. It was intriguing and I breezed through this volume. However, I will say that some of that plot and the panels felt repetitive, and the central plot arc was incredibly predictable.

The art itself I adored. It’s a really gritty and unique art style that adds to the atmosphere of the plot.

All in all, I would say it’s a decent read especially if you’re looking for sapphic vampires. However I do feel like it felt a little rushed plot wise at times.

Rep// Many WLW/Sapphic MCs. Central romance is sapphic/wlw.

TW// gore, drowning, injury, death, blood, blood drinking, on page sex.

Violent Flowers follows a small group of vampires who are confronted with their past mistakes after the death of one of their own. The art style is very beautiful and I loved the color choices. The story was really intriguing, but I wished it was a bit longer with a little more information. I got enough of the story for the arc to make sense, but I love having more backstory when I can. Definitely would recommend to people who like a vampire story.

Enjoyed this take on vampires. Ancient, angry, and queer is a winning combination - no exceptions. Llovet has a really cool art style that fit the vibe of the book so well. I just found myself wishing the story arc were a little longer so the reader had more time to become familiar with the characters and get invested in their outcomes. I did like the story as it stands, but think it could have been stronger with more time. The author has stated that while this arc is complete at four issues, there will be future spin-off works connected to it and I'll definitely be tuning in to those when the time comes.

Thanks to Image and Edelweiss+ for an ARC in exchange for review.

Maria Llovet's breathy, bloody aesthetic remains utterly my thing – just look at that cover! – so her doing vampires should have been an easy win. Hell, there's even a poison arrow as the key McGuffin for bonus Lexicon Of Love points. Yet somehow, despite all the ensanguined kisses, this tale of undying rivalries never quite took flight for me, a little too reminiscent of the twiddlier bits of the World of Darkness.

I hoped for much, it gave me everything in the first issue alone. Joy of joys I still had 3 more issues!
This feels as if "The old guard" met "Castlevania" and was written by Alice Oseman. I felt like I was reading something that started as a "Interview with the Vampire" fic in the best way possible.
I'm so glad the author plans on writing a lot more in this universe. The art is absolutely beautiful and the love for Barcelona is present in every page.
Thank you to Edelweiss and Image Comics for this DRC (they declined my request and then made it free to download, but I'm not bitter or anything.)

Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for the DRC.

I really enjoyed this take on vampires and the artwork was so beautiful. I did find it humoring that the author mentioned leaving us with a ton of questions, which…yes. But I’m happy to hear that there will be more to the story. Everything moved at a fast pace but I do felt like I got to know the gist of some of the characters.

I absolutely loved the luscious art. Llovet nails emotion and action with an art deco sensibility most probably linked to her home town Barcelona. The latter is wonderfully depicted in this book. The link between vampires and ancient Greece was interesting, but I am neither well versed in vampire tropes nor really a big fan of them. Still the book was captivating and an easy read.

75% of the comic panels feature vampire women making out or biting each others neck. You shouldn’t need to know more than that to pick it up.

Beautiful artwork and a fun story. Wish there were more volumes.

A group of vampires fight over an old feud and strike a lot of sensual poses. My favorite part of this is that it took place in one of my favorite cities, Barcelona, and large portions of it take place in Park Guell and La Pedrera, two of the most fabulous works of architecture you could ever visit, both by Gaudi.

I've loved everything I've read by Maria Llovet. One of the few modern cartoonists worth reading in singles (as I did with this book).

Art and story are excellent. I wish it had an extra issue or two to flesh put Carneila's "addiction" a bit more. Really looking forward to Maria Llovet's next series.

A very sexy vampire tale with a new twist, that really are new.

This is a commentary on age and beauty as well as being a tale of revenge and politics.

Vampires are running around in the world. The queen has come for a funeral, only to discover there might be more death to come. Maria Llovet’s writing and art work is amazing. This first volume has her same signature style. I can’t wait for more in this world or any world she will create.
