The man who killed her has vanished into a refuge of indulgence and depravity—one Nala can’t infiltrate alone.
Enter Varen Lake, a mysterious tech savant with connections in all the right places. She offers Nala a way submit to her and step into the gilded cage of Xan Ravenwood’s seductive empire. A world of power, pleasure, and peril known only as The Aviary.
To uncover the truth of her sister’s death, Nala must don the codename Nightingale and play the perfect submissive, even as Varen’s every touch threatens to unravel her resolve. But the deeper she sinks into this dangerous masquerade, the more she realizes that Varen is hiding something, too.
Something full of soul-shattering heartbreak.
And falling for Varen might be the most dangerous mistake of all.
Set in the hidden underbelly of the Pacific Northwest, THE NIGHTCLUB is the spicy sapphic retelling of the Cynthia Dane classic The Nightingale Trilogy. It has a HEA - with a bang.
The Nightclub is a sapphic retelling of Cynthia Dane’s Nightingale Trilogy, so it’s like three books in one! I did not read the original as I’m only interested in queer romance. I loved this book! It was exciting, suspenseful, and very erotic. It read like a wild action movie with intrigue, spies, and seduction. And then there is the sex: super spicy kinky BDSM and plenty of it.
I was drawn to the characters and story from the beginning. Nala wants to avenge her sister’s death that was ruled a heart attack but she believes it was murder. Varen wants to avenge the death of her fiancé who died in a car accident as she knows in her heart the powerful businessman Xan Ravenwood had something to do with it. Nala’s sister was a scientist who worked for Xan and was close to discovering a cure for cancer. Nala is sneaking around and finds her way into a back room at a bar owned by Xan and stumbles (literally) into the arms of Varen. They quickly deduce they both want the same thing which is to take down Xan Ravenwood. Varen proposes that Nala pretends to be her submissive in Xan’s kinky club known as the Aviary. All of the subs take on bird sounding pseudonyms and Nala becomes Nightingale. While Nala originally thinks the club members are a bunch of perverts, Varen is actually into the BDSM lifestyle. Nala might realize she’s more into the submissive role than she first thought.
Of course Xan is a very dangerous man and it won’t be easy taking him down. They might not even get out of this alive. But they each are determined to fulfill their mission which did not include falling in love. Overall this was another great book by Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings and I’m thrilled she is retelling her stories with a sapphic theme.
This is a rewrite of Cynthia Dana's Nightingale trilogy. Hildred out did herself with this book. To change the characters to make this a wonderful woman loving woman book. Nala is desperate to get revenge on who killed her sister, because a twenty-four year woman doesn't just have a heart attack and dies. Varen is out to get the one person she knows that killed her fiance in a car accident. When Nala falls into Varen arms life changes for both of them. Nala has to sub for Varen and she pick the name Nightingale for her, because The Aviary is Xan Ravenwood BDSM clue for his private members only. Nala is learning that the one person she can trust is hiding things from her as well. The deeper she goes the more she realizes that she loves Varen and will do whatever to get her sister's killer to protect them both. A wonderful story that you can't put done till you find out what happens so that they may have a hea
Very long read to get into, but man is there a lot in this novel. Honestly, I can confidently say now that I read this in one sitting in the span of a solid 4-hour sitting, that this is definitely one of, if not the best, I've read from Cynthia Dane. No doubt this is her at her best. I can see why it took more time. Sometimes, books aren't always better being long. I've read plenty of short and novella-length works that are beautiful as they are, but other times when they are greater lengths it allows for the story to fully be opened up and every avenue explored for the characters. She's written a lot of great series and a lot of wonderful characters, and stories that are emotional and with fractured characters who are mended by another's warmth and love.
This was the best story I have read for awhile. The story was a lot more than the BDSM. It had a true plot, mystery, and twisted events. I began it thinking that I would just read for awhile and only put it down to make meals, reading a good portion of a day.
I have read Hildred Billings/Cynthia Dane stories before, but this was a novel and it had me hooked.
This is another fantastic captivating storyline from this talented writer. I was hooked from the beginning and it kept me wanting more and more. Excellent story.
