Camilla is a writer trying to publish a book, but a slip of destiny causes her to make a shady deal with a king and now she's trapped in a magical Kingdom. All she wants is to continue her life, but before she can, she dives deep into the web of secrets consuming the Kingdom and goes down a rabbit hole of magic, mystery and love. Everything she has ever wanted is put to question: including her freedom. So the true question is: Will Camilla get dragged with the secrets of this world? Or will she be able to carve down her own path?
Alice Granger writes mysterious and breath-taking romantasy but has been venturing into other genres such as romance. While love is a common aspect of her books, she likes to focus on philosophical themes such as time and life without diverging from the action and suspense. Even though her writing is often considered poetical, you will find darker elements being explored in her novels. At only eight years old, Alice wrote her first short book heavily inspired by a well-known novel. She wrote another one at the age of twelve based of Greek Mythology, but it was only at seventeen when she self-published her debut novel: a romantasy set in a fictional world where grand kingdoms are named after planets and blood is comprised of magic. Now, she is working on other projects that she hopes to publish soon. Her passion for literature—both reading and writing—has been part of her since a young age; she has entered writing contests and received offers to pursue her dream of writing as a career. A love for games and animals continues to mark her life.
DNF - I had to put this book down at the halfway point. I gave it a solid full week of my attention but I want to read for enjoyment and this wasn’t it.
My main problem with it was the sheer number of spelling and grammatical errors. There were also random letters and several words that sounded like they might belong in a different context but those specific words meant something else entirely. I was rereading almost every sentence just to try and make it make sense.
I found myself grading this like a students work at school.
The plot/story issue I had was that there was no consistency to it, and the premise was incredibly odd to me. (Write a book and become a princess? Highly unlikely) In the first chapter there are several huge time jumps that just don’t make sense at all. I think that the book literally could have been good story wise if it had focused on everything in the first chapter instead. Alternatively I think the first chapter should have been left out. Did it provide context? Maybe. Was it helpful? No.
I found a serious lack of depth in the characters also. I feel like they had so much potential but then the next sentence does ANOTHER jump and I’m left with not knowing them at all.
Another issue I had was the idea that she keeps saying she doesn’t possess fear. This is physically impossible. Not only that, but if that were really true, she wouldn’t run every time a man comes near her. Sounds like fear to me.
This book has really unique world-building and magical system (writing is a power). And overall it has everything: love triangle (you'll love it even if you are not a big fan of this trope), feminine (and very relatable) FMC, great friendships, prophecy and great story. This is one of the best fantasy books l've read. I will keep recommending it to everyone.
One of the best fantasies I've ever read so far! Loved the character of Camilla! The plot details and everything that has been given to the story, was extremely magnificent and unforgettable.
Will surely recommend it to all the fantasy readers. A must read.
I LOVE THIS BOOK SOOO MUCH!! I'm usually not a fan of love triangles but I didn't need to worry at all!! The magic system and world building in this book was phenomenal!! Writing being a power is so unique.! Both Charlie and Zion felt like good people to me ,but honestly if I were in Camilla's shoes,I would have done the same! The friendship between Iris and Camilla was everything to me.The trust they had for each other?? The story itself was well-structured , beautifully written and well paced. The "chosen/prophecy one" is not a bad story, but I do want more original stories.Instead of complying with the "chosen to save a place and love a prince" a rebel like Camilla is an amazing change for once! The twists in the end were the cherry on top!! Camilla choosing freedom and her life and future was well deserved. The ending shows how strong women are and imthere for it!!!
It was a very nice book with an amazing storyline and some very interesting characters. The plot is wonderful and refreshing for anyone who is into fantasy books. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for their next romance/fantasy book.
I have so many thoughts upon finishing this book (the most prominent being when can I get the next one because I needed it like yesterday) so I’m going to do my best to organise everything in this review but as a word of warning, it may be a bit of a mess. The first thing I want to talk about is the characters. They were a major selling point, each being unique and so well portrayed. Their dynamics worked really well and I really look forward to seeing more of them and how they continue to develop. In terms of plot, the story was much richer and complex than I expected. Some plot points really surprised me and excited me, such as the identities of some characters. The story would suck you in and you wouldn’t even notice what was going on in your surroundings or the time passing by. The beginning of the text had a very unconventional flow in terms of what we see and don’t see which I think is an interesting choice on the author’s behalf but when I stopped thinking about what wasn’t there and focused on what was, this seemed like a small issue. There was also such great and vivid imagery. It is so clear how much thought the author put into what each setting and character looked like and it really all came together so beautifully (though perhaps at times there could be a little less detail here just for quicker pacing). Now, the start of this book was a bit harder for me to get into but the ending certainly made up for this. I think if anything this just stemmed from the book not being at all what I expected so once I got over this, I could really enjoy it. There is also room for improvement in the author’s craft in terms of editing, though it is clear the author has much potential here and that this will only be refined with further books (and also through greater engagement with the reading community through working with other beta readers or such steps). Their storytelling abilities really stand out and despite small issues like the writing, I still really enjoyed the story because of their ability in crafting the story. In all, I am really looking forward to anything more the author produces!
One of the strongest aspects is the concept. The idea of writing as a magic power is very creative. It gives a unique twist to the genre and makes the premise very interesting. The characters are well-developed, each with their own personality, without feeling bland or the same. I especially liked Camilla because she feels so relatable.
The worldbuilding was easy to understand and actually reminded me of Once Upon A Broke Heart, with similar vibes in the setting. The magic system was also really cool, and I liked how it built up as a mystery rather than being introduced right at the start. I’m normally not a big fan of love triangles, but it worked well here, and I know which team I’m on ;)) (His name begins with a Z)
But I do prefer the friendship between Camilla and Iris!!
However, There are some downsides. Some parts could have used more editing. There were inconsistencies here and there, and the pacing wasn’t always consistent; sometimes it went faster, then slower, then faster again, especially in the beginning. It took me a while to get through the first few chapters, but then it really picked up, and I finished it in two days! The writing itself was beautiful though, I really appreciate how the author descriped the setting because it's so much easier to imagine.
Despite this, I’m fully convinced this author will write many more compelling stories that will continue to improve over time. I’m very excited to see where she goes, and for a debut book by a teen author, I’m truly impressed!
Princess of Chaos is one of those rare books that pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t let go. The premise — a writer thrown into a magical kingdom and offered the crown — sounds familiar, but Granger turns it into something original and deeply empowering.
Camilla isn’t the perfect princess everyone expects. She’s sharp, defiant, and only wants her freedom — not power, not titles, just the right to choose her own path. I loved her for that. The idea of writing as magic was so clever and beautifully symbolic, and the world-building felt rich without ever being overwhelming.
The relationships were another highlight. Both Zion and Charlie felt real and complex — the kind of characters you can’t help but root for — and Camilla’s friendship with Iris was such a touching, genuine bond. It’s rare to see female friendship written with that much care.
The pacing was spot-on, and those final twists caught me completely off guard. By the end, I was cheering for Camilla as she took control of her destiny — it was powerful, emotional, and unforgettable.
Alice Granger’s writing feels poetic yet raw, full of heart and meaning. For a debut, it’s genuinely impressive.
If you love strong heroines, unique magic systems, and stories about freedom and self-discovery, Princess of Chaos is an absolute must-read.
I received Princess of Chaos by Alice Granger as an ARC, and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it.
This book pulled me in right from the start. A writer is thrown into a magical kingdom and offered the crown, but Camilla doesn’t want power or a title she just wants her freedom, and I loved her for that.
She’s strong-willed, sharp, and refuses to become the perfect princess everyone expects. The world-building and magic system were fascinating, especially the idea of writing as a form of power.
I usually don’t enjoy love triangles, but it worked here. Both Zion and Charlie had depth and felt like genuinely good people. The friendship between Camilla and Iris was also one of my favourite parts, their trust in each other was beautiful to see.
The pacing flowed well, the twists near the end caught me off guard, and I loved how this wasn’t the usual “chosen one saves the kingdom” story. Camilla choosing her own future instead of what others wanted for her was such a powerful moment.
It’s magical, emotional, and full of heart. And yes…#Team...🤫
This author gave me an opportunity to be part of her review team, and I am so grateful to accept it! One of the best decisions ever!
This book wasn’t just fantasy, it was rebellion wrapped in silk. A writer falls into a magical kingdom and is offered the crown... but she doesn’t want it. She wants freedom. 🔥👑
Camilla is sharp, defiant, and refuses to play the pretty little princess. Between secret magic, royal schemes, and one VERY unexpected prophecy, this book had me hooked start to finish.
💬 Smart. Magical. A little dangerous. 💥 And yes… I’m 100% #TeamZion.
If you love badass female leads, mysterious kingdoms, and books where the “chosen one” might just burn the system down, this is your next read. 🖤
ONE OF THE BEST FANTASIES I'VE EVER READ YET! A MUST READ! 🫶🏻
