Rate this book
'Rufus Varro is part Gordianus the Finder and part Flashman.' Oliver Webb-Carter, Aspects of History

Rome, 26BC

Rufus Varro, a reluctant spy, is instructed to take a strongbox to the town of Capua - and meet with Marcus Sura, an assassin.

But Varro discovers his fellow agent dead - stabbed in the throat at the brothel where Sura was staying.

Varro - and his bodyguard, Manius, a Briton and former gladiator - are compelled to investigate the crime. They only encounter suspects, rather than evidence, however.

And what if Varro finds the killer? Should the spy become an assassin?

Varro is intent at solving the bloody mystery, but at what cost?

Spies of Assassin is another engaging, enjoyable novella in the bestselling Spies of Rome series, set during the reign of Augustus Caesar. Recommended for fans of Steven Saylor and Conn Iggulden.

Richard Foreman is the bestselling historical novelist of the Sword of Rome and Sword of Empire series. He has also written Band of The Complete Campaigns, based upon Henry V and the Agincourt campaign, as well as a series of novels charting the rise of Augustus Caesar and Marcus Agrippa ( Son of Rome and Son of Caesar). He lives in London.
