A unique romantic suspense with a paranormal twist. Following in the footsteps of her deceased mother, Francesca Yates believes she is also a phony fortuneteller until her crystal ball reveals a client will be murdered. Though the vision is brief, she recalls a spider tattoo on the killer’s arm and tries to warn the client to no avail. When the woman is murdered, Francesca does her civic duty and calls the police. The arrogant detective lets her know right off he doesn’t believe in Tarot cards or crystal balls. When Francesca receives a call on a disconnected phone from the murdered woman, she is terrified. Given the name of the next victim, she has no choice but to call the detective again. New Orleans PD, Detective Ryan LaBarre is all about black and white. There is no gray. He hates fortunetellers since one caused his marriage to fail by lying about him to his wife. He assumes Madam Francesca is working with the killer, hoping to become a celebrity psychic. He starts out to prove it, never expecting to become entangled in her life, never expecting to care about her, but once she learns the secret he harbors, she will despise him. Now that the serial killer knows Francesca is keeping the police one step ahead of him, she becomes his target.

If you want a romantic suspense with a great male lead, this is not it. New Orleans PD, Detective Ryan LaBarre is one of the all time worse male romance leads. When Francesca is not ready to take their not really a relationship to the sex stage, he's like: someone else can watch your back while I head down to the badge bunny bar and pick someone up who will have meaningless sex. This is the male lead? I had hopes he would get a STD if not knocked off. The FBI guy was not much better.
As far as the suspense, totally ruined by the male characters but it did move the novel from a one star to a two star.
This was a very good story. I am going to look up her other books. The heroine is wonderful, the hero a is stubborn but a Cajun dream. All other characters help to make a wonderful story.
This is a fun premise, done to death but I love the idea of victims attempting to give clues to the living so I really hoped I would enjoy thus. The heroine was a really wonderful character, and her self-abnegation with regard to her sister was admirable. The hero here is one of the most facetious, annoying, shallow, uuuggghhh...hated him, started to dislike the heroine when she put up with him to the extent she did. The fact that it is essentially two love stories is a bit twee and forced so I found myself skimming just to get to the end. I've now read 3 books by this author and I have to say I won't buy anymore.
I really liked this book. Except for Ryan he is an immature jackass. If he had not spent most of the story acting like a high school jock getting turned down it would have been great. Others have given this book high ratings so they obviously enjoyed it more than I did. But for me a man needs to act like a man, and that was not something he did at all.
Excellent. The pink phone, parlor, tarot cards storyline kept me reading and not wanting to stop. Alicia was the typical, spoiled brat that don't have to work hard for what she had. Overall, enjoyed the setting, the language, the plot.
