Miss Juliana Rothmond is the daughter of a merchant and has a younger sister, Penelope. Their father insists Juliana has a proposal before Penelope can receive a proposal. Unfortunately Juliana has a scar on her face from when she was younger had a fever and the Ton are very unkind to her and no man wants to dance with her except her childhood friend, Ira Galbraith. Ira and Juliana had been childhood friends since their fathers had been friends and in the same line of business. At a ball Juliana goes out on the balcony to get away from the hurtful comments that are being said about her and it is very hot in the ballroom. Once on the balcony she realizes she is not alone and that a blonde gentleman is on the other end of the balcony. What happens when he sees her and comes over to talk to her? The man is Lord Horatio Dunville, a known rake. When he asks her for a dance on the balcony, Juliana is shocked, but takes his hand. When someone calls his name, Juliana goes back inside. She would not tell him her name, but his friend told him who she was and commented about her scar. Horatio doesn't understand as he did not see a scar and thought her beautiful. Once back inside Horatio approaches her and ask for a dance and she accepts. The tongues begin to wag. The next day a large bouquet comes from Lord Dunville with a invitation for a walk at Hyde Park the next day. But what happens when Ira appears and talks of a betrothal? Whap happens next? Well you will need to read this very interesting story to find this out and more. This deception, dysfunctional families, friendship, the question of one's station, murder, kidnapping, an almost betrothal falls apart, romances and oh so much more. You will enjoy!!!

It was a nice read about a marriage of convenience turning into something special. There were a couple of villains to boo. I doubt the heroine got her scar from her illness, but the hero is kind enough to see beyond that anyway. Having the older sister marry before the younger puts a lot of pressure on the eldest.

Ignorance is not Bliss

There is a worm in the apple hiding until the very end. Scars vs abuse that two really nice people overcome together. Many good characters need more to do.
