I saw this young author on TikTok and went and read one of her books as I love supporting teen authors in general. The book was so good, definitely something new and refreshing from an average novel. The poetry is beautifully written, capturing the emotions so easily. I’m definitely going to be reading more of her work, thank you Alicia Lloyd. You’re doing a great job, keep it up.
I received this book as an ARC read and I was very suprised by the outcome. The style is easy to follow, quick chapters and the poetry style is also captivating. The insights into the emotions and thoughts of the main character was so well described, I was like yeah I can relate. I had no idea how the story would end up, what the title refers to but you’ll get there. Definitely recommend it to someone who’s a new reader, perhaps it would be easier to get through it since it’s literally so easy to follow, also for younger readers as the characters are around the same age as well. It has a bit of a Holly Jackson feeling if you know what I mean… So go read it if you enjoy crime, investigating and more!
The twist and turns in this book had me aching for more! I read this as an ARC reader and normally don't sign up for things that i see scrolling on tiktok but this just interested me so much.
Alicia you did such an AMAZING JOB!!
you will honestly never see the plot twists coming.
A round of applause to Alicia's Book everyone 👏🏼👏🏼
It was a really fun and entertaining story. I loved reading it, finished it in one day due to it's structure. I was reminded of my writing when I was 15, fun but not fleshed out. It really has something good in there, it just needed more time and detail. The characters and the world need to be more fleshed out, we barely got to know the main character through out the book, not for a lack of trying. I know she likes birds. And I know even less about the two side characters, or should I say the two killers, Renae and Jackson. I get that as a writer you're eager to get to the fun part, the murder and the mystery. But it's important to let the reader learn about the characters, get to know the MC, the suspects, Renae and Jackson and even the victim, if it's through the MC or changed perspectives to the victim or interrogation or even flashbacks. There was no investment in the characters, no clues into who the murderer could be other than Evelyn pointing the finger and Renae saying to drop it maybe, but most people would. There was also no set up for how Evelyn finds Isla's corpse. The plant pot reveal felt natural, I admit that, but again, the thing missing was set up. How did these things happen? How did Renae kill Isla in the woods, why? How did the head end up in the plant pot? Why was Jackson in the police station? Why did he have a knife, ready to kill Renae? There's a lot of questions, and not a lot of answers. A mystery book is complicated, it needs to be more planned out.
It might seem contradicting to say after the long text of criticism, but I really did enjoy this book. The poetic writing was unexpected, a bit hard to take serious sometimes, since it could feel unrealistic inside a teenagers mind for the situation. I enjoyed it nonetheless. The story has an interesting idea, a teenager feels obligated to figure out what caused her classmates death and exploring her paranoia as she finds the head in Renaes house is also really fascinating, it just needs to be built upon.
Keep writing and I will keep reading, next time I'll get a physical copy. 🙏

This book follows a character named Evelyn. One of her classmates goes missing and so, she decides to investigate that. She wants to know what happened to Isla and why. But when she goes digging for the truth, she discovers that it’s more horrible than she believed it to be.
I have never read a verse type book before and this really shocked me with how well written it was. I thoroughly enjoyed the poetry, the shorter format and the way the author described how Evelyn was feeling.
Reading this book felt like somebody was up on stage, giving a life-changing recap speech. It felt like an event where someone was sharing their story and how it changed them.
I was captivated by the way Alicia writes and I will be checking out some of her other work!
3 stars. Overall, I enjoyed the concept and the writing. Minor errors in the book, such as saying 911, instead of 999, but easy to look past.
Please check out this indie author if you haven’t before!
I feel like this book has been deeply rooted into my brain after reading it. It’s kind of like a tornado: it draws you in right away and it’s hard to stop reading once you start because each chapter builds up to the next.
I feel that Evelyn, the main character, was so well built up and had so much depth to her. Coincidentally, in the first few chapters I found a lot of the things about her quite relatable 😂!
Overall, this is an amazing book and it is so well written. Alicia did an amazing job at writing it too! I’m really excited for its release on December 3rd so that others can enjoy it too!
So, thank you to Alicia Lloyd for giving me the opportunity to read this book and allowing me to share my opinion on it! I hope others can enjoy it just as much as me!
I received this as a ARC read and here is my honest review.
This was my first verse fiction and can say it really kept me into the story. It is a quick read done in 40 minutes and honestly did not see the whole did it so you will love the thriller part of the story. Evelyn has a class mate who goes missing and decides to find evidence that Jackson who is a bully is responsible for Isla being missing. The best friend Renaee who Evelyn wants to tell her about Jackson but doesn’t. You will understand the book title Plant Pot at the end of the book. Alicia is on her way to great thriller books. I hope to read more of her books!
I honestly think Alicia is best at verse fiction because this was such a good book, oh my God!
I think Evelyn is a well-built character, and some people could really relate to her.
I absolutely love Alicia's books, and this one was just so shocking. The plot twist was insane. The title was confusing for me at first, but it ended up being a great choice.
ARC This was very far out of my typical reading, but I like how no time was wasted and it was a good quick read. I really wish there would have been most depth to the characters. I find it hard to connect to a book if I don’t know any background on who they are. With that being said, I liked this writing style more than I thought I would, and I think that’s largely due to the authors talent.
What a book. Alicia’s writing style in this is amazing and I love the way the book climaxes and then concludes. It is a very strong novel and I’m so grateful to have been able to read it earlier on! Thank you!
I received this book as an ARC and I can honestly say I was very intrigued. So I was a bit confused as I read the first few pages and wondering why it was reading more as a poem type feel, then after realising it was a verse fiction it made sense. It's the first book ive read in that format/genre and I was pleasantly pleased.
It was SUCH an easy read, I completed it in around an hour. It was easy to follow, a nice break in-between other thrillers/crime and a nice palate cleanser.
You may think it's a odd title but when it hits you, WHAT?! Like I NEVER saw that coming.
I feel like the scenes could have been described a bit better like to set the tone for what was coming but it was an enjoyable read.
I absolutely love Alicia's verse fiction! They're always so good when you're looking for a quick, fast-paced read and it's a great palette cleanser!
This one was so peculiar and twisty, with a very original plot. At first, I was curious where the title came from but when you realise, you're like... WHAT NOW!?
I would have loved for some parts to be more realistic, especially since there was a lot of police inclusion, etc, to really build the setting. Some parts just didn't feel that believable and it had me confused.
However, I do think that the narration itself is very easy to get into and the plot line is intriguing!
The Plant Pot is a thrilling, suspenseful story that is a very quick, easy read. When one of Evelyn's classmates, Isla, goes missing, she finds that she can't seem to let the mystery of what happened to her go. She suspects another classmate, Jackson, had something to do with and finds herself drawn to investigating. But when her investigation starts to hit closer to home than she realizes she's torn about whether she should go to the police or leave a killer to roam. This story is very well written, especially knowing a little more about the author. At first, it was a little hard for me to get into the story because it's written in a very poetic style. But after a few minutes, I fell right into the groove of it and found that actually really enjoyed it more than I thought. This is definitely a great young adult thriller. It's quick and easy to get through but will definitely have you flying through the pages.
Thank you so much, Alicia Lloyd, for an ARC of this book. I was a little worried going into this because it is targeted to pre-teens, which I obviously am not, however I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the unique way of storytelling, as this is written in verse. The story was clear for the most part, but I do think that the ending could've used a few more chapters to better explain what was happening.
The exploration of guilt in the novel is done in a very clear way which makes it understandable for readers of different comprehension levels and definitely has a pre-teen vibe to it (the main character is in year 8 in the UK system).
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a short read for their pre-teen child who likes mystery books and verse storytelling.
The Plant Pot is a twisty verse fiction murder mystery where a girl goes missing and Evelyn suspects a peer
The Plant Pot was written incredibly well and it was such an easy read, I didn’t want to put it down and I read it in just one day! It’s the first book I read by Alicia and I can confirm that it isn’t something you’d regret reading. If I could I’d give this book 10 stars I loved it that much (and I don’t say that often😅)
It's the first book I've read in that format (verse fiction), I have to say it’s not a style I feel I would read again however this book itself is really good and would recommend. It’s a very quick read took me around 45 minutes.
Alicia wrote Evelyn’s character really well and the story as a whole really flowed well.
I received this book as an ARC And this is my honest opinion.
This was a fun read for me. I haven't read young adult recently. It was very poetic in the emotions and story telling. Each chapter led really well into the next and kept me engaged! Thank you for letting me get my eyes on it! Can't wait for it to come out in December.
oh my! I loved this book so much! The twists at the end were amazing! My jaw was on the ground, if you’re looking for a fast-paced mystery/ thriller I definitely recommend this book! I don’t normally sign up for Arc reads but I’m so happy I did.!
The book was really easy to follow and the main character was also quite relatable. The ending was also really good, i found it a really interesting abut also easy book to read!!
