Plant Magic by Anastasia Mostacci provides an overview of the practical and mystical properties of plants—from small, common herbs to majestic, exotic trees. Each entry describes the plant’s origins, historical and mythical contexts, medicinal uses, and magical abilities paired with beautiful illustrations. The book organizes the plants into sections connecting to the planets, including the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.

My favorite part about Plant Magic was the artwork! The entire book is beautifully crafted, and I’m sure a printed copy would be even more stunning. The illustrations that accompanied each plant really made everything come to life. I found the introduction to be thoughtfully concise, and I enjoyed learning about plants that I haven’t often seen in other plant books. I also appreciated that each entry included historical and mythical aspects from multiple cultures.

Overall, I give Plant Magic 4/5 stars. The information began to feel a bit repetitive as I reached the end of the book. However, I did read the book in one sitting, and I think Plant Magic may be better suited as a reference guide. My one true complaint about the book is that I wanted it to have a conclusion or an afterword that wrapped up the main ideas as artfully as the introduction opened them.

Thank you to NetGalley, Anastasia Mostacci, and Adams Media for the ARC copy of the book in exchange for my review. All expressed opinions are my own!

Plant Magic by Anastasia Mostacci starts out as a prayer, practically an invocation, inviting us to immerse ourselves in the sensory experience of nature as living force and the essence of this magical compendium itself.

I appreciate how the introduction began with brief and impactful illumination of the interconnectedness of plants as nature, ourselves as human animals, and the expansive multiverse as a key concept. Mostacci offers a grounded foundation that demonstrates the importance of intentional curiosity when studying with plants.

Plant Magic not only explores a wide selection of plant allies and their alignments, but also the structure with which to approach them to facilitate deeper wisdom; based not in rote memorization, but a relational understanding of each plant themselves.

The historical references and cultural nuances seeded throughout each plant’s entry are informative and inspiring, offering interesting insights on application and organized by astral body association for easy use. Meanwhile there isn’t an association with any one specific practice or belief system, welcoming readers of all faiths.

I love the concise, one-page approach, familiarly conversational tone, and helpful artistic depictions for identification. The summary at the bottom of each entry feels oracular.

Plant Magic serves as either a great primer to warm you in to the connections between astrology, magic, mythos, and plants or a handy reference guide to add to your alchemy and herbalism collections.

This book is a lovely introduction for anyone just starting to explore the magical and energetic properties of plants, especially in relation to the planets. It explores the connection between certain plants and celestial bodies, such as the Sun, Moon, Mars, and others, and explains what this association might mean in practical terms.

The writing is straightforward and easy to understand. The book is well-organised, so it’s simple to dip in and out of. It feels aimed at beginners, which makes it a good pick if you’re starting to explore plant magic or curious about how plants might connect with planetary energy. There are plenty of plant examples, and each one comes with a brief explanation of what it’s known for energetically.

That said, if you’ve already been working with plant magic or herbalism for a while, this might feel a bit basic. It doesn’t delve very deeply into technique or history; instead, it provides a high-level overview. Still, it does what it sets out to do, and it does it well.

The artwork is a nice touch and really enhances the book's feel. Visually, it's beautiful and engaging.

Overall, this is a great starting point for beginners or anyone wanting a gentle, aesthetically pleasing guide to plant-planet connections.

Thanks to NetGalley and Adams Media for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Plant Magic is such a beginner friendly book. It was more than just imagery and the usages for the plants. This book provided plant history. It's not often that you can open a book and read actual history for the plants and its historical magical usages.

That alone, for me, was a beautiful foundation for this book and sets it apart from other plant magic books I've read in the past. The book also includes some instructions for collection days, and other little tidbits that the author finds significant for beginners finding their way.

Another great aspect of this book is that it doesn't just give you a list of the normal plants (cinnamon, basil, lemongrass and rose petals) but it actually expands your horizons to other plants that you may or may not have considered or heard of before. This is def a book I would purchase and keep on hand. Can't wait to grab it when it becomes available.

I received a copy of this ARC from NetGalley!

Plant Magic by Anastasia Mostacci is such a lovely and enchanting read. As someone who’s plant obsessed, this book felt like sitting down with an old friend who just gets why greenery feels sacred. It blends botanical knowledge with the spiritual and universal connections plants hold, and it does it in a way that feels warm, accessible, and genuinely magical.

The illustrations by Quorr are gorgeous. They bring every plant to life in a detailed, earthy way that makes you want to flip through the pages slowly and soak everything in. The book explores the energy, symbolism, and uses of different plants without feeling too heavy or too “textbook.” It keeps that soft, mystical vibe while still offering real information.

If you love plants, witchy reads, or exploring the deeper connections between nature and the universe, this one is definitely worth picking up. It’s the kind of book you’ll keep on your shelf and reach for whenever you need a little grounding or inspiration.

This book dives into the traditional, medicinal, and spiritual sides of plants in a way that feels both practical and interesting. I liked how it’s organized with each section linked to a day of the week, its planet, and the flowers that go with it. It gives the book a nice rhythm and makes it easy to follow.

Each plant has its own short write-up with just enough detail to spark curiosity without becoming dense or boring. The illustrations by Quorr are beautiful - full-page botanical drawings that make the book worth owning for the artwork alone. It’s one I’d happily keep on the shelf just to flip through the pictures. I also learned a lot, and the information included definitely made me want to research more.

I really enjoyed the way the book is designed, and I was pleasantly surprised to find plants and trees not commonly seen in other correspondence lists. I think it's a great resource to start practicing magic with plants, learning about them, and connecting with the energy represented by each of the seven classical planets. For those who aren't beginners, like me, I feel it can help us remember information, revisiting the basics and discover new species, and that it's always good. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, and the book itself is very visually appealing and easy to read.

Thanks Netgalley for this lovely arc!

I always enjoy reading about plants and what they bring to the table. This was a good book and I learned a few things. While I’ve read a few books that had far more detail, they weren’t as illustrated us beautifully as this one is. Anytime I learn something new from a book, I consider it a win and this was a win.
