It’s not a secret that Kirsten is an incredible writer, and every new release is proof of that!! Each title is unique, and this was definitely that.

I don’t even know what to say without spoilers because it was just SO good. So I will say that every character was my favourite (except the bad ones obviously), every scene was either fun and bright or heart-gripping - some I never expected to read, yet here we are😂 - and the story was just the perfect amount of everything I craved at the time. The pacing was smooth and there wasn’t anything overly complex within the words that lost me, keeping me enchanted the whole time.

(also it’s not a secret me & Kirsten are friends, but I swear she’s not paying me to write this. But if she wants to throw more chaos characters at my way…👀)

I can safely say I've never read a book quite like this one.

Full disclosure, I almost DNF'd at like page 50 just because the dialogue from the MMCs were ridiculously juvenile but as the story progressed they shed the "we've been low key infantalized by our fans since we were 17 so we've spent roughly 15 years acting like teenagers" vibe and became much more mature than I initially expected and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of their characters beneath the veneer. The dick jokes did not evaporate into thin air though so don't expect Blaze and Cam to become ultra refined in the span of like 200 pages hahaha

There were quite a few laugh out loud moments that sincerely had me questioning my own sanity but it's really not that serious lmao I enjoyed pretty much every single 'wtaf' instance. By the end, I feel like the author threw caution to the wind because if you made it to the end, well, you could guess as to what I'm talking about lol. But I loved every second of the chaos 🫶🏻

And the slow burn!!!!!! It was so slow!!!!!! And totally worth it in my opinion!!! But I'd still refrain from recommending this to someone unless I knew they could roll with the punches and some of the odder aspects of Aennika's world that could potentially send some people running for the hills. Definitely had a great time reading this story though, gives the feeling of an obscure cult classic movie from the 70s/80s which was cool.

This book was a masterpiece, and I dare to bet the best of Kirsten’s work so far.

As always, it was easy to fall in love with this author’s characters, even their sometimes-somewhat unhinged flaws ;). She deepens their personalities, layer by laye,r and interweaves it all into the plot in such a skilled way that you can’t put the book down when things get real. It takes a while for the story to build up, but because of these deep layers, the plot becomes deeply real and meaningful, keeping you on the edge of your seat, rooting for the characters you fall in love with.

Kirsten’s writing has always impressed me, but this book was an absolute gem. What I love most is how unafraid Kirsten is of dealing with themes and scenarios most authors don’t dare to experiment in. It makes her story worlds unique and compelling, and c’mon, we all would love to have a talking cat!

soooooo as a fellow Kirsten and author, I had to try this author! while this was definitely not my favorite read, the concept was amazing and the slow burn was perfectly done! I love how the characters relationship developed and how the golden retriever was way smarter than anyone thought! definitely had its issues with overall flow but I adored magic system and I would try other books by Kirsten Krueger

a booktok recommendation win.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last. I’m obsessed and plan to go through her backlog. I loved everything about this book. I laughed. I got mad. I cried a smidge. And I fell in love with Blazing Cameras. I’m not going to spoil it for you but this book gave me everything I was looking for

I only have like 90 pages left, but my eyes can‘t handle this anymore.
It was fun at first, despite it‘s goofy title, but now certain lines have been crossed. Because what do you mean 30 year old guys act like that? No, just no. I‘m sorry.

I think it was very unique twist of needing to find the love of her life. I had to remember it was fantasy at some points.

who just believes witchcraft is real within 1 hours and goes to test it??

It was a fun read
