Deception & Desire

Rate this book
"On the other side of that door is the man you're going to marry."
My father's chilling command sends a shiver down my spine.

Suddenly it clicks.
The mysteriously gifted dress. The innocent-looking invitation.
This isn’t dinner.
It’s a wedding.
My goddamn wedding.

The doors swing open...
And towering at the altar, all muscle, ink, and menace—
Leon Natali.
The monster I’ve cursed since I was old enough to know his name.

He’s older. Colder. Desperate for an heir.
And I’m the gift-wrapped offering meant to seal a blood-soaked alliance.

I thought we'd cut each other's throats.
I had no idea deception would turn into desire.
Or that the real enemy was closing in to rip me away.

And Leon's twins growing inside me.

Now the devil himself is off his leash—
And he’ll drown this world in blood to protect what’s his.
His woman. His legacy. His family.

Deception & Desire is book three of The Prince's Guild series. This is a full-length, standalone novel with a HEA, adult situations, profanity, violence, and dark romance themes.

I really wanted to love this, but the pacing just didn’t work for me. The timeline jumped around quite a bit and while I get that the story needed to move forward, it ended up feeling a bit too rushed. Major moments were skipped over or fast-tracked which made it hard to fully connect with what was happening.

I was also left feeling a little confused by how certain parts of the story were handled, especially toward the end. Some scenes felt glossed over and there were characters I expected more from that sort of faded into the background.

There was definitely potential here and the plot itself had some great emotional beats but it just needed more time to breathe.

the pacing on this was really weird and because of that there wasn't enough of a build up of chemistry between the mmc and fmc.

There are a lot of things I could question about this book, but the one that's really not sitting right with me is why on earth would anyone leave their 11-day-old twins to attend a casino opening party?

Ma’am. One—you just gave birth. Sit down, recover, maybe take a nap. Two—who in their right mind thinks it’s medically or emotionally sound to leave newborn babies with strangers they’ve never seen before? The logic just isn’t logic-ing.

This plot point alone had me blinking in disbelief, and unfortunately, it wasn’t the only moment that made me pause. While the story had potential, choices like this pulled me right out of it. Some things just didn’t add up.

There is nothing about this book that is either four or five stars, I read over comments of four and five star ratings and they are just as unbelievable as the events occurring in this book. Mia was annoying. She set the rules, said she did not want any flirting or intimacy, just sex when ovulation occurs, THAT’S IT, then whines and is indignant in unjustified righteousness when Leon gives her as she wants it. WHY?!!! She thinks he threatened her father’s life, and she already asked him, and he denied it, she asked a different don and he denies it, so she just goes back with the assumption that Leon lied to her, rather than asking the source, which was her father who told her that! Never once does Mia think why would a don need to lie if he threatened someone? Give me a break with the ridiculousness of writing women this way!
Then there’s the storyline. Mafia stories seem not this author’s strong suit. Mia, supposedly a mercenary but is careless af, and super naive to think a cartel princess wouldn’t be followed or everyone dug into that is around said princess? Or that said cartel princess could be playing her? No thought to being followed, just drives from a cartel member’s home to Leon’s, no ensuring there isn’t a tail? And no disguise for someone who is part of a mafia family? And has zero thoughts on being recognized? None?
Leon is a careless don, looks weak, is weak. Is suddenly so out of control over Mia that he’s out there all in the mix instead of having his people doing what they should be? Has a second who hasn’t been there a year? What kind of absolute foolishness is that? Leon just picks him on a whim because a signature is needed. Seriously? Unbelievable. There’s not enough suspension of belief for that scenario.
Leon is a don. Where is his security? Max at the house and that’s it? Really? And it makes zero sense Leon had his home in a brownstone. None. How’s that secure? What about the attached brownstone(s)? Who’s living in those?
There’s no cohesion to this story. We miss Mia’s entire rest of her pregnancy and so does Leon. We see her positive pregnancy test at a time that didn’t even make sense, just plopped in, and ultrasound checking on the pregnancy and an announcement from that, then a failed baby shower that ends in disaster right after announcement. Mia’s hidden in a bunker and we see none of it. And really? A bunker is the only choice for safety? That’s not healthy for anyone and certainly not a pregnant woman. No fresh air, no sunlight. Where’s the unknown cabin on isolated property? Some other state or country? An unknown island property? A bunker? That Leon NEVER visits. Four months go by and no contact, just bits about the war against the cartel. No one else but a doctor down there with her? On a high risk pregnancy? Where’re the nurses? What if have to have a c-section? The way it’s written there’s no others. Where are the wives and children of the others? Their safety is not paramount during a war with the cartel? Why are they not all in the bunker with her? Security? And all this time Mia is pining for Leon, a man she’s barely spent time with, serious lack of relationship building between them.
And Max. So obvious. Why would Leon make a newcomer his second? It made NO sense. None. When he outs himself, Leon has a thought how he stranger from California could be so eager to be my second. There’s everything wrong with that sentence. And more evidence that writing about the mafia is not this author’s strong suit, because that wouldn’t happen. What don would make such a stupid decision. Not happening. And a strong Don would’ve been suspected there being a traitor in the midst with things that were happening. Events that happened after the birth was just ridiculous. 11 days after giving birth to twins and Mia is going to a casino opening? Really? Leaving 11 day old newborns with strangers? She’s supposed to be breastfeeding. Twins. Newborns who would be eating every two hours! Super unrealistic!! Again, no cohesion to the story, things are just happening, just plopped in, unrealistic things for a mafia boss, two of them, since there’s an alliance between the two groups. Leon comes up with a plan of attack that would have been implemented long ago? After the cliche Mia gets taken by the enemy. Leon up and running around THREE days after being shot in the chest and having surgery for that. Ridiculous. It’s total nonsense! Leon character is not believable, he isn’t a weapon of war, they’re words that have zero backing. Every bit of Leon being up and about is ridiculous foolishness. This was very poorly written. Being kind with a 2-star rating.

This is the second book in this series and it helps if you read them in order. Even though this story is a stand alone, both characters are introduced in the first book as well as the supporting characters that feature in this one. There is also an arc of mafia family drama that started there and moved into this story, so it helps to have the historical information as it is not thoroughly covered in this one. She knew she was on borrowed time, her father told her she would have to declare her loyalty to the family soon, but she never expected to be blind sided with a surprise wedding...hers, or told she has to produce an heir to solidify the bonds between two mafia families and solidify their alliance. She also never expects to fall for her husband. He is handsome as sin, and he makes her panties melt. He also is aloof and detached as he tries to unravel the mafia war and keep everyone safe. The complex mafia drama continues in this one as they build their own relationship and learn to trust each other. They have an attraction that calls to each other despite the circumstances. The characters are complex. Some parts of the story drug on as you waited for drama to resolve. Especially when she was under protection, and I didn't love the just skipping time aspect, to get them through the drama. I wish it could have been a little more streamlined in that regard. However they do get their happily ever after in the end.

This book was incredible! I loved the first two on the series, but this one was even better in my opinion. Well paced and layered characters!

I had a few busy weeks, so I had to read it with many pauses in between, and I can’t explain how much it pained me to leave the book and go live in the real world.

I’m in love with Leon’s insta-possessiveness and how he still encourages her to do her own thing (while he’s going crazy on the inside, trying to get her to use a heart monitor and going after her to make sure she’s safe and alive). I wanted to be Mia so bad just to be the recipient of such attention.

And then Mia taking care of him when he’s injured, thinking of him all the time even as she doesn’t want to, her inner monologue was so funny!

Totally recommend this book, it’s not too explicit on the mafia stuff so don’t worry if that’s not your vibe.

I’m hooked to Sierra Voss’ books, so many of the secondary characters are interesting, can’t wait to see who gets their own book next

Deception & Desire is book three in the author’s Prince’s Guild Mafia series and delivers another satisfying tale of dark Mafia romance that begins with a forced arranged marriage for its MFC Mia Chiavari to MMC Don Leon Natali.
Leon needs an heir and Mia has been chosen to provide one while also keeping her father’s life intact with the alliance that is formed between their families, but she doesn’t have to like it.
Mia is a fighter and doesn’t intend to resign herself to the fate being forced on her, despite the physical attraction for the inked Alpha who is just as intrigued by her.
Escaping will no longer be an option though when Mia gets pregnant which raises their tenuous relationship to a whole other level.
This was another enjoyable read filled with intrigue, danger, mafia politics, family dynamics, passion, and violence in a nicely written standalone story, that didn’t fail to entertain.

★”I vowed to keep you safe.” “I didn’t marry a babysitter.”…★

…“No, you married a don,” The way the mafia is set up in New York is slightly more tiered/complex, making for unique connections between them, which must have been built up in the previous two installments to this series, so I should go back and see the others’ stories. The Don of the Prince’s Hand, Leon Natali marries an unsuspecting Mia as an insurance policy to produce an heir to strengthen the alliance with the Guild. Especially when a war with the Cartel is looming. Despite the arranged marriage, Leon and Mia manage find common ground, both fighters for those who matter in their lives. All in all, an engaging mafia read, with suspense, heat, and an exciting storyline. Looking forward to the next installment of this series.

Deception & Desire is the third book of The Prince's Guild dark mafia series. You’ll love Mia and Leon’s story that can be read as a standalone with no cliffhanger and an HEA. She’s blindsided when she enters a room and realizes she’s been set up. They’re all there for ‘her’ wedding. A forced arranged marriage, a little mafia, here and there. More drama than you can imagine, no shortage of danger and a twist or two. Growing feelings, growing twins and a man on a mission to protect his family. This is a page turner that will grab your attention right at the beginning. Well written with strong characters and an even stronger story line. No cliffhanger and an HEA you’ll love. I read an arc via the author and voluntarily chose to write a review

Leon and Mia. She was sold to Leon for an arranged marriage. He knew of the marriage but not to whom. She knew nothing until she was standing in front of the preacher, mafia guild and him. She thought after all was over it would be easiear to hate him if she didnt have an attraction to him. He needed an heir and she needed to save her father. But the marriage didnt save her from the danger surrounding her as she was told. This dangerous, suspensful, surprising mafia romance will capture you and not let go till the end. Theres lies and secrets to unravel on their journey to each other. Who wouldnt love a dangerous, seductive, over protective, complex, handome, melting your soul mafia alpha male.

Rushed and underdeveloped

I wanted to like this book. Mia was such a spitfire in the previous books, yet seemed dulled in her story. Also, her name changed to Madison at several parts in the story, which was confusing. The ending of the story was rushed and the plot seemed underdeveloped. Leon's name also changed many times towards the end of the story. Is he Leon Vitali or Leon's Morretti? He was called Morretti several times causing me to reread sections to make sure the author wasn't referring to Rocco Morretti. There were also many grammar mistakes whoch made sections difficult to understand. How the five star reviews and editors missed these glaring mistakes is mind-blowing.

Deception and Desire is the first book I've read by Sierra Voss and I could already tell after only a couple of chapters that it will definitely not be the last one.

I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed every single page in this book. I loved the characters, I loved the story but most of all I loved the pace of the story. D&D had a very fresh feeling to it, compared to so many other mafia romances.

And Leon is quite possibly the cutest mafia romance MC I've ever read about, while still being all kinds of intense.

If you love yourself a good mafia story, this should be your next read. Now you'll have to excuse me while I go look at the other Sierra Voss books.

Leon and Mia had me right from the beginning of this book. She is hoodwinked when her father tells her that instead of a dinner, she thought she was attending became her wedding something she didn't see coming and to a man she despised none the less. It starts off on the wrong foot but Leon the thrilling twists and turns proves just how far Leon will go to protect his family. Do they have what it takes to take an arranged marriage to the next level and come out with a happily ever after.

Love Leon and Mia!

I just discovered this author and I’m a fan. Growly mafia Don Leon doesn’t know what hits him when Mia once again enters his life as part of an arrangement that was both a surprise in more ways than one. I love their intense connection that only intensify as danger, suspense and a romance they didn’t see coming hits them hard. I love how hard they hate so that turns to some deliciously spicy moments. This is a definite must read and I can’t wait for more.

To combine forces against the cartel, Mia was forced to marry the leader of the Prince's Hand, Leon Natali. From previous books, Mia is a BAMF and Leon was kind of questionable as a tough leader of PH but this book made up for it. The chemistry between the two was hot and heavy. Not sure when they fell for each other but the story worked. It was enjoyable.

5 Stars for Deception & Desire by Sierra Voss. I am fairly new to this author so can’t wait to check out more of her work! Ms Voss definitely has written a page turner arranged marriage storyline!

There is something that adds to the plot when the characters don’t meet till the day of the wedding- Leon & Mia sure turn up the heat!

If you like mafia romance this is a great read !.

I wanted to enjoy this book as much as the previous 2 in the series, but found it really hard to follow at times. There were so many errors it was off putting and I found myself getting frustrated. I completely get mistakes happen but the main characters being called the wrong names multiple times? The icing on the cake was when any words that should have the letters ‘vice’ like ‘device’ had ‘Vitale’ instead so tracking device became tracking deVitale 🙈 find and replace gone wrong!!

Book 3 in The Prince's Guild series is Leon and Mia's journey. It's an arranged marriage story that pulls you in quickly and will hold you there until the very end.
As with the 2 previous books, Deception And Desire is intense, dramatic and consuming. Leon and Mia are explosive and despite being forced together they're completely perfect for each other. I can't wait for Obsession And Oath!

Page turning old world mafia mystery with a twist of fate when Mia is tricked into attending her own wedding. The complexity of her grief and the reality of grappling with her and Leon’s feeling means you never want to put this book down. You are rooting for the Natali’s for the first time in this series!

Mia has no idea what she is walking into, but she trusts her father. Leon and Mia know each other previously, but they are about to embark on quite the twist and turn adventure together. This book, like the two previous ones, was truly incredible. Intense and edge of my seat. A fantastic experience.
